    Globalization and urbanization can lead to aggravation of economic, social, and environmental issues, which creates significant challenges for city management and especially city logistics. These challenges require an integrated approach to research and optimization and the introduction of innovative solutions, technological and organizational direction. The implementation of investment projects in cities should be in full accordance with the selected concept of city logistics, subordinate to objectives of sustainable development. Successful urban logistics is possible only with the use of innovative logistics technology based on supply chain concepts, efficient customer service, multimodal mobility and other effective solutions, however, active administrative steps on the implementation of city logistics strategy is needed. Main objectives of city logistics research are following: reduce congestion, increase urban mobility; reduce air pollution and noise; improve living conditions of city inhabitants.
    Globalizacja i urbanizacji może prowadzić do pogłębienia się problemów gospodarczych, społecznych i środowiskowych, co stwarza poważne wyzwania dla zarządzania miastem, a zwłaszcza logistyki miejskiej. Wyzwania te wymagają zintegrowanego podejścia do badań i optymalizacji oraz wprowadzenie innowacyjnych rozwiązań technologicznych i organizacyjnych. Realizacja projektów inwestycyjnych w miastach powinna być w pełni zgodna z wybraną koncepcją logistyki miejskiej, podporządkowanej celom zrównoważonego rozwoju. Udana logistyka miejska jest możliwa tylko przy zastosowaniu innowacyjnej technologii opartej na koncepcji logistyki w łańcuchu dostaw, sprawnej obsługi klientów, mobilności multimedialnej i innych skutecznych rozwiązań, jednak potrzebne jest aktywne działania administracyjne dotyczące realizacji strategii logistyki miejskiej. Główne cele badań logistyki miejskiej są następujące: zmniejszenie zatłoczenia, zwiększenie mobilności miejskiej; zmniejszenie zanieczyszczenia powietrza i hałasu; poprawa warunków życia mieszkańców miasta.

    Unmanned aerial vehicles, often referred to as drones, are increasingly used as an element of the transport system, including in urban areas. Despite the limitations, mainly related to the range and load capacity, it should be expected that in the near future, they will transport cargo and passengers as one of the elements of the urban transport system. The concept of Urban Air Mobility (UAM), which envisages the use of drones and other aircraft in urban airspace, meets this goal. Literature analysis was used to identify and describe applications of drones in the urban transport systems and to articulate key challenges related to this issue as well. The article presents generalizations regarding the use of drones in the urban transport system, including urban air mobility. It identifies the key challenges related to their implementation in urban areas. Typical applications of drones in urban airspace include passenger and cargo transportation and support for services and Intelligent Transportation System components. The main challenges relate to legal regulations, safety and security, air traffic management, environmental impact, infrastructure and social acceptance for implementing drones in the city’s transport system.

    The paper is aimed at presentation of authors’ experience in the field of sustainable urban mobility planning at a subregional level. The authors make a thesis that the sustainable urban mobility planning in urbanised areas of conurbation nature should be implemented on a framework basis at a subregional level. A strategic mobility management at a supramunicipal level allows a better coordination of local actions and achieving the synergy of planned instruments to make the mobility sustainable. The paper presents guidelines in the field of diagnosis of the urban mobility system. In addition, the paper makes an attempt to identify instruments to make the urban mobility sustainable and to determine frameworks of ex-post and ex-ante evaluation for this process. The paper content to a large extent is related to the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan for the Central Subregion of Silesian Voivodeship, which was developed with the involvement of paper authors.

    The dynamic development of cities based on the role of the car in addressing transport needs leads to a reduction of mobility, as well as to an increase in external costs generated by the transport system. This problem can be solved thanks to the sustainable mobility concept, in which transport needs are limited at the stage of planning spatial development and then covered by public transport as well as by cycle and pedestrian journeys. This article identifies arguments justifying the implementation of FFPT in Poland, and also evaluates their relevance based on the experiences described in the literature and the example of Żory. On this basis, it can be concluded that the evidence for the impact of FFPT on sustainable urban mobility is poor. Neither does FFPT reduce mobility exclusion. At the same time, the introduction of this solution is expensive, especially in the metropolitan areas.

    The urban mobility scenario in most Indian cities has deteriorated considerably in the last decade wreaking a havoc on millions of daily commuters. Lack of an integrated multimodal public transport has added to the woes of public, forced into using their cars and two wheelers for travel. This has led to an unprecedented rise in vehicular traffic and serious road congestion. This article explores the feasibility of various alternatives implemented and adopted in Delhi and its results shared for a feedback of various stakeholders. A large number of engineering associations like IRC, IRF, CEAI, IAStructE and WISE have been proactively helping the authorities in taking up technically appropriate solutions and engineering in order to improve mobility.
    Warunki mobilności w wiekszości miastach indyjskich pogorszyły się znacznie w ciągu ostatniej dekady, utrudniając życie milionom ludzi dojeżdżającym codzienne do pracy. Brak zintegrowanego multimodalnego transportu publicznego wyrażana jest społeczności miast, zmuszonej do korzystania z samochodów i jednośladów w codziennej podróży. Doprowadziło to do bezprecedensowego wzrosut ruchu kołowego i niebywałego natężenia ruchu drogowego. Niniejsza praca poświęcona jest omówieniu studium wykonalności różnych alternatyw rozwiązań wypróbowanych i przyjętych w Delhi, których wyniki udostępniono dla opinii różnych zainteresowanych stron, w tym organizacjom NGO i stowarzyszeniom. Wiele stowarzyszeńi inżynierskich, takich jak IRC, IRF, CEAI, IAStructE, zostało aktywnie zaangażowane w doradztwo i pomoc władzom w podejmowaniu odpowiednich rozwiązań technicznych i inżynierskich w kierunku poprawy mobilności.

    The sustainable development of the cities represents one of the major challenges for the future of the planet in the 21st century, relatively to the contribution and adaptation to climate change, natural resources consumption, energetic transition, population mobility, welfare and security, pollution, the global economic growth. Tri-City, as many of contemporary agglomerations, faces lots of challenges connected with human negative impact on the environment, health and the city space. The mobility of people is one of them. The quality of transport in Gdansk, Gdynia and Sopot is getting worse because of the excessive use of cars, non-integrated public transport system, insufficient use of ecological transport, as well as uncontrolled urban sprawl. The objective of the paper is to present sustainable mobility planning challenges in the agglomerations at the example of seaport city Gdynia. To check the necessity of creating a new mobility pattern for important traffic generators, a research study has been carried out. The pilot survey research has been made among the staff and students of one of the biggest institutions in the city - Gdynia Maritime University. The research tool was based on an anonymous questionnaire containing a set of questions such as: the use of mode of transport, transit and parking problems, as well as the awareness of sustainable mobility. The survey results indicate that there is an unsustainable model of travelling among the academic community and transport’s behavior should be changed in order to implement the sustainable mobility concept in practice.
    Zrównoważony rozwój miast, podobnie jak zmiany klimatyczne, zużycie zasobów natural-nych, przemiany energetyczne, migracje ludności, dobrobyt i bezpieczeństwo społeczne, za-nieczyszczenie środowiska, globalny wzrost gospodarczy, stanowi jedno z głównych wyzwań dla przyszłości naszej planety w 21 wieku. Trójmiasto, jak wiele innych współczesnych aglo-meracji, mierzy się z wieloma wyzwaniami odnoszącymi się do negatywnego wpływu czło-wieka na środowisko, zdrowie i przestrzeń miejską. Mobilność ludzi jest jednym z nich. Jakość podróżowania w Gdańsku, Gdyni i Sopocie pogarsza się w wyniku nadmiernego użytkowania samochodów, braku integracji systemu transportu publicznego, nieefektywnego wykorzysta-nia ekologicznych środków transportu, jak również niekontrolowanego rozrastania się miast. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest przedstawienie wyzwań związanych z planowaniem zrówno-ważonej mobilności w aglomeracjach na przykładzie Gdyni. Aby sprawdzić, czy konieczne jest stworzenie nowego wzorca przemieszczania się dla osób podróżujących do dużych gene-ratorów ruchu, zostało wykonane badanie, przeprowadzone wśród studentów i pracowników jednej z największych instytucji w mieście – Akademii Morskiej w Gdyni. Narzędziem wyko-rzystanym podczas badania był anonimowy kwestionariusz ankietowy zawierający szereg py-tań, takich jak: wykorzystanie środka transportu, problemy przewozowe i parkingowe, jak również świadomość respondentów odnośnie zrównoważonej mobilności. Wyniki badania wskazują na niezrównoważony model podróżowania wśród pracowników i studentów. Aby móc realizować koncepcję zrównoważonej mobilności w praktyce, zachowania transportowe respondentów powinny ulec zmianie.

    The future of mobility is more and more impacting how businesses operate in many industries, and it is already changing social behaviours. Many companies already announced their fully self-driving car projects [3], others are connecting millions of vehicles this year, more than in any other wireless category, including smartphones, and these developments are just the first tentative steps toward a new mobility ecosystem in the new industrial environments that are defined by Industry 4.0 and the Internet Of Things. From another perspective, movement and mobility are the core dynamics of our societies as its centrality is social, economic and urbanistic. Today mobility has become indispensable for access to most goods, services and social relations and being able to move around to and in cities, actually governs access to housing, work, education, culture, sports, business, new opportunities of personal and professional life. Societies become increasingly complex and diverse, designing and engineering these new societies and ecosystems is the key competence of us, engineers and architects. The goal of this article is to define and propose smart strategies for modern mobility where moving from A to B is not anymore a physical possibility, but where strategic thinking comes into account and empowers our engineering SWISSENGINEERING communities so to highly and efficiently contribute to the governance and operations of the socio-economical arena of our everyday lives.
    Nowoczesne rozwiązania w zakresie mobilności już dziś wywierają istotny wpływ na funkcjonowanie firm w wielu gałęziach przemysłu, powodując zmiany zachowań społecznych. Wiele wiodących firm zapoczątkowało projekty w pełni samosterujących bezobsługowych samochodów, inni łączą miliony pojazdów w inteligentną sieć, w tym roku większą niż w każdej innej kategorii urządzeń bezprzewodowych, w tym smartfonów. Te zmiany to tylko pierwsze nieśmiałe kroki w kierunku nowego ekosystemu mobilności, w nowych środowiskach przemysłowych, które są zdefiniowane jako „Przemysł 4.0” i „Internet Rzeczy”. Z innej perspektywy, ruch i mobilność to podstawowe uwarunkowania dynamiki społeczeństw, decydujące o ich centralnej roli społecznej, gospodarczej i geopolitycznej. Dzisiaj mobilność staje się niezbędna z uwagi na dostęp do większości towarów, usług i relacji społecznych. Transport umożliwia poruszanie się w miastach, faktycznie regulując dostęp do mieszkania, pracy, edukacji, kultury, sportu, biznesu, nowych możliwości życia osobistego i zawodowego. Społeczeństwa stają się coraz bardziej złożone i zróżnicowane, zatem projektowanie mobilności oraz inżynieria transportu dla tych nowych społeczności i ekosystemów stanowi naszą, architektów i inżynierów, kluczową kompetencję. Niniejszy artykuł ma na celu zdefiniowanie i zaprezentowanie inteligentnych strategii dla nowoczesnej mobilności, gdzie przemieszczanie się z punktu A do B nie jest już fizycznym zjawiskiem, ale gdzie jest brane pod uwagę strategiczne myślenie, co upoważnia społeczności naszych inżynierów do współtworzenia skutecznego zarządzania i obsługi działań w ramach społeczno-ekonomicznej przestrzeni naszego codziennego życia.

    This article presents the results of an extensive questionnaire survey focused on changes in the transport behaviour of the population of the Czech Republic immediately after the government’s announcement about the measures implemented to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The questionnaire aimed to determine the changes in the use of the mode of transport for regular travel to work, school, or for shopping, as well as to determine the changes in the frequency of these travels according to monitored socio-demographic groups of inhabitants and specified size groups of settlements. This article contains a statistical evaluation of these changes in the transport behaviour of the population using sophisticated statistical tools. A method is proposed for estimating the number of passengers in public transport using a linear regression model based on the data from conducted transport behaviour survey. In this paper, the Data envelopment analysis (hereinafter referred to as DEA method) within the case study in the South Bohemian Region is also used to determine whether the COVID-19 measures have reduced the efficiency of public transport.

    The article presents the role of innovation in city logistics, and above all the impact of modern logistics investments on the quality of life of residents. On the example of the proceedings of the local government of the city of Rzeszów, a brief description was made of activities related to innovations in urban logistics of various types: technological, organizational, structural, process and image-related. On the basis of a survey among the inhabitants of Rzeszów and the Rzeszów agglomeration, the impact of innovations in urban logistics was examined, among others on changing the behavior of society, lifestyle, preferences in movement, quality of life, as well as the identification of residents with the city. As a result of the research, it was found that the inhabitants perceive very well all already implemented and being implemented innovations in urban logistics. It was also recognized that modern investments contribute to improving the quality of life, lifestyle, air quality, health and safety. In particular, it can be said that the innovations made it possible, among others, to shortening travel time by public transport, smoothing traffic in congested areas, infrastructure integration of ecological forms of transport operating in the urban and suburban areas, connecting public transport with individual bicycle, pedestrian and car communication, improving the mobility of people with disabilities or people with reduced mobility, energy efficiency of urban transport by investing in transport with alternative propulsion systems, reducing the negative impact on the environment, including reducing noise and vibrations as well as greenhouse gas emissions, mainly CO2.
    W artykule przedstawiono rolę innowacji w logistyce miejskiej, a przede wszystkim wpływ nowoczesnych inwestycji w obszarze logistyki na jakość życia mieszkańców. Na przykładzie postępowań samorządu miasta Rzeszowa, dokonano zwięzłej charakterystyki działań związanych z innowacjami w logistyce miejskiej o różnym charakterze: technologicznym, organizacyjnym, strukturalnym, procesowym oraz wizerunkowym. Na podstawie badań ankietowych wśród mieszkańców Rzeszowa i aglomeracji rzeszowskiej, zbadano m.in. wpływ innowacji w logistyce miejskiej na zmianę zachowań społeczeństwa, styl życia, preferencje w przemieszczaniu się, jakość życia, a także utożsamianie się mieszkańców z miastem. W wyniku badań stwierdzono, że mieszkańcy bardzo dobrze postrzegają wszystkie wdrożone i wdrażane innowacje w logistyce miejskiej. Uznano również, że nowoczesne inwestycje przyczyniają się do poprawy jakości życia, stylu życia, jakości powietrza, zdrowia i bezpieczeństwa. W szczególności można stwierdzić, że innowacje umożliwiły m.in. skrócenie czasu podróży komunikacją miejską, upłynnienie ruchu na obszarach objętych kongestią, integrację infrastrukturalną funkcjonujących na obszarze miejskim i podmiejskim ekologicznych form transportu, powiązanie transportu publicznego z indywidualną komunikacją rowerową i pieszą oraz samochodową, poprawę mobilności osób z niepełnosprawnością lub osób z ograniczoną zdolnością ruchową, poprawę efektywności energetycznej transportu miejskiego przez inwestycje w transport o alternatywnych systemach napędowych, zmniejszenie negatywnego oddziaływania na środowisko, w tym redukcję hałasu i drgań oraz emisji gazów cieplarnianych, głównie CO2.

    The aim of this publication is to present the relationship between the dominant forms of urban mobility and the environmental pressures of the transport sector as well as the quality of life of the inhabitants of large cities and urban agglomerations. The presentation of trends and scenarios is based, on the one hand, on statistics describing current development trends and, on the other hand, on scenarios, recommendations, and commitments defined in European, national, and local governmental documents programming the socio-economic development of urbanised areas and the directions of climate transformation in their area. The article consists of a brief introduction, background on the latest regulations in the field of sustainable urban mobility, and a comparative analysis of environmental demands, along with actual trends observed in the transport sector in urbanised areas. It closes with conclusions relating to the validity and effectiveness of current transport and environmental policies, and recommendations, whilst identifying areas and instruments that increase the likelihood of achieving the stated objectives.
    Celem publikacji jest prezentacja zależności pomiędzy dominującymi formami mobilności miejskiej a presją środowiskową sektora transportu i jakością życia mieszkańców dużych miast i aglomeracji miejskich. Z jednej strony ukazane zostały aktualne trendy rozwojowe, z drugiej zaś scenariusze, rekomendacje i zobowiązania definiowane w europejskich, krajowych i samorządowych dokumentach programujących rozwój społeczno-gospodarczy terenów zurbanizowanych oraz kierunki transformacji klimatycznej na ich obszarze. Artykuł składa się z krótkiego wprowadzenia, tła w postaci najnowszych regulacji z zakresu zrównoważonej mobilności miejskiej oraz analizy porównawczej postulatów środowiskowych i rzeczywistych trendów obserwowanych w sektorze transportu na obszarach zurbanizowanych. W podsumowaniu zawarte są wnioski odnoszące się do prawidłowości i skuteczności obecnej polityki transportowej i środowiskowej oraz rekomendacje, wskazujące obszary i instrumenty zwiększające prawdopodobieństwo osiągnięcia zakładanych celów.

    Discussions on how urban space would be transformed by the use of autonomous vehicles (AVs) are scarce. This study identifies the impacts caused by the shared use of AVs on urban parking and urban space management. An estimation method was formulated considering the reduction in parking demand, the possible alteration in vehicle ownership, and the reallocation of urban space. A case study was performed in a 673,220 m2 area through scenarios created by using real data of parking spaces and the results of previous studies. Results showed that parking spaces can be saved with the use of shared AVs, which would allow the reallocation of urban space to new uses (for example, implementation of around 12,000 bike-sharing docking spots, 10 km bike lanes, 7 km additional traffic lane or 140 ‘parklets’). The results contribute to revealing the positive impacts of AVs.

    Opis:
    This article presents the issue of using decision support tools to select the variant of organization of urban transport system. Two scenarios for the use of electric vehicles were compared, considering not only their emissions and fuel consumption but also the limited accessibility of conventional vehicles to the city. The authors assume that the development of urban traffic organization must go hand in hand with the challenges of planning sustainable urban mobility and reducing harmful exhaust fumes. Furthermore, decision-makers should be equipped with simple decision support tools to generate the best option considering the expectations of transport users. The PTV VISUM tool was used to analyse and visualize two different organization scenarios for a selected city in Poland.

    The article presents findings of a survey research carried out on a group of the deaf and the hard of hearing. The objective of the research was to evaluate the quality of public transport in urbanized areas in Poland, identify problems that the deaf and the hard of hearing face while using public transport, and to review a selection of solutions facilitating mobility of this group of people. The survey was conducted on a group of 71 persons, of whom 65% were women and 35% were men. The group surveyed was active professionally and socially, thus they used public transport daily or several times a week, which they confirmed in surveys. Most of them (65%) were persons with profound hearing loss (above 90 dB), 17% with severe hearing loss (71-90 dB), and 11% with moderate hearing loss (41-70 dB). Public transport and its accessibility for the given group in the urban area where they live was assessed as very good by 8% - 17% of the surveyed, good: 23% - 46%, sufficient: 13% - 25%, bad: 13% - 25%, very bad: 3% - 28%. The results presented on the assessment of public transport by the deaf and the hard of hearing indicate that accessibility of public transport in Poland for this group of passengers is on a sufficient level. The assessment of public transport in Poland, performed in the survey, allowed the identification of vital problems the deaf and the hard of hearing face when they use the infrastructure and means of public transport. The article presented a selection of technical solutions used in public transport vehicles in Germany, Austria, Great Britain, France, Poland and Czech. The following aspects were in the focus of this paper: information displayed at stations and train platforms; the passenger information system in vehicles; spots at railway stations where the deaf may obtain help connected with their journey; applications that enable planning a journey. These solutions aim at facilitating travel for the deaf and the hard of hearing.
