    Paper presents brief history of interactive urban planning tools developed by the Dutch office ONL and experimental idea for planning housing areas used by the author in a competition entry for a masterplan for railway area in the centre of Stargard as well as in sketch design for a new centre of Rokietnica.
    Tekst prezentuje krótką historię interaktywnych narzędzi planowania urbanistycznego opracowanych przez holenderską pracownię ONL oraz pomysł eksperymentalnego podejścia do planowania osiedli mieszkaniowych użyty przez autora w projekcie konkursowym na zagospodarowanie terenów kolejowych w centrum Stargardu jak też w szkicowym projekcie nowego centrum Rokietnicy.

    Opis:
    The problems of modern urban planning are described and ways to solve these are discussed. Cities of the Russian Federation have low indicators of transport and planning efficiency; the general plan theory of the city does not answer many questions on the development of the urban environment. There are no requirements for the efficient use of urban areas and the formation of a city plan. An integrated approach is considered to improve the productivity of transport infrastructure to the modern level of motorization, develop measures to improve road safety, and also enable the prioritized development of environmentally friendly, economical, and high-speed types of public passenger transport. In this respect, the problems of improving the theory and practice of urban planning are highlighted in a new light. During the period of preparation of this article for publication, a new master plan for the development of the city of Omsk was approved, which included these proposals. The construction of the longest embankment in Eurasia began; a decision was made to use tunnels and stations of the unfinished metro for the development of tram routes.

    Opis:
    This article focuses on how modern housing environment is shaped via the specifics of construction in extremely challenging weather conditions in the cities of Saudi Arabia. With the overall goal that modern housing must be eco- and human-friendly in mind, the authors have attempted to identify the characteristic features of the Islamic cities and traditional local methods of construction. The article presents typical solutions of local architecture and urban plans, expecting that they might render significant guidelines for the spatial organisation of modern cities. A case study of Jazan city and its neighbourhood has been intended to analyse not only the spatial design of the city but also a recently worked out Masterplan. Both the architecture and the urban planning of Jazan city might serve as a good example of modern interpretation of heritage that underlies high quality housing environment.
