Opis:
The aim of this work is the experimental study of the weight loss impact on the properties of flying objects. Work is hased on the results of resonance tests of the helicopter, gliders and military aircraft. In the presented flying objeets group the possible occurrence of weight losses during the flight are up to 50%. The paper posed the following questions: How big can be, in practice, the weight loss during the flight? To which resonance the mass loss has the greatest impact? How and by what rules the map of resonances changes? Does in the process of weight loss there are other, worth-knowing events? Gliders, airplanes and a helicopter were investigated in the Resonance Test Laboratory of Institute of Aviation. The author has organized and for over 20 years led the Resonance Test Laboratory at the Institute of Aviation, in which he made or directed the investigations of dozens of aircraft, gliders, helicopters and their elements and components. Effect of weight loss on the flying objeets properties is one of several ,,unusual" research topics phenomena, which the author observed during a standard resonance tests. The resonance of the mode shape of Jantar 15 glider, comparison of the relative increase in the frequencies of the resonances with mode shape for SZD-50 Jantar 15-2 and IS-2 Revelation gliders, results of investigations of the underwing stores loss of mass impact on the „Pattem" aircraft resonances freąuencies, the resonance frequency of the 1-22 Iryda aircraft are presented in the paper. Opis:
Background: Finnish sauna is presently the most popular type of thermal therapy in Europe. Saunas are widely available in aquaparks, SPA centers and hotels. In Scandinavian countries sauna is regarded not only as a form of treatment, but as a part of the national lifestyle. Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate sauna-induced changes in systolic (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP), heart rate (HR) and body mass in healthy men. Methods: Thirty healthy men aged 20-49 years (mean age: 31.2±11.3 years) attended four 12-minute Finnish sauna sessions (temperature: 90°C, humidity: 14-16%) with 6-minute breaks in between sessions, including cold water immersion for 1 minute. The participants’ physical activity (PA) levels were evaluated with an IPAQ questionnaire. Sauna bathers’ body composition, BP and HR were measured before the first and after the fourth sauna session. Results: A significant (p < .001) decrease in SBP and DBP values was noted in response to sauna regardless of the bathers’ body mass, age and PA levels. The average HR increased significantly in younger, slimmer and more physically active participants. Sauna treatment induced a significant decrease in body mass loss regardless of all independent variables. Conclusions: Repeated 12-minute Finnish sauna sessions have a beneficial influence on the cardiovascular system. Finnish sauna can be recommended for healthy men with average and high PA levels as a means of decreasing BP. Body mass loss, on the other hand, is related to the loss of body fluids as a result of sweating.

Aim: The aim of this study was to determine the effect of a 15-minute bathing session in a Finnish sauna on changes in systolic and diastolic blood pressure (SBP and DBP, respectively), heart rate (HR), and body mass. The effects of grouping variables (age, sex, BMI, frequency of sauna use, history of sauna use) were taken into account in the analysis. Materials and Methods: A total of 60 women (33.6±13.1) and 42 men (33.8±12.5) aged 17 to 79 participated in one 15-minute sauna session (temperature: 90-91°C; relative humidity: 14-16%) in December 2019, in the city of Wrocław, Poland. The participants' body mass, SBP, DBP and HR were measured before and after sauna. Body height was measured only before sauna. Results: Sauna induced significant changes in the participants' physiological parameters. Systolic blood pressure decreased (p<0.05) in both sexes, in older participants (p<0.001) regardless of their BMI, and in participants who had rarely used sauna and had used sauna for a minimum of several years. A significant decrease in DBP (p<0.001) and HR values and a significant loss of body fluids (p<0.001) was noted in both sexes regardless of age, BMI, frequency and history of sauna use. Conclusions: A 15-minute sauna session has a beneficial effect on the circulatory system and can be incorporated into cardiovascular therapies. Regular sauna use is an important factor, and optimal results can be achieved by visiting sauna several times a week.

A decomposition study was carried out on the leaf litters of Leucaena leucocaephala to determine the rate of decomposition of its leaves with respect to its placement on above or below the ground levels in L. leucocaephala plantations of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Nigeria. In the study, leaf litter were randomly handpicked from the forest floor, of this, 40 g each were weighed into thirty (30) litter bags of 2 mm mesh size in which 15 were randomly placed on the forest floor (above-ground) and the remaining 15 were buried in the soil between 5-10 cm depth (below-ground). Data were analysed using descriptive statistical techniques such as percentage, while inferential statistics (simple linear regression) was used to determine relationships between various nutrient elements and days of decomposition (DOD). We noted that the percentage of mass loss of leaf litter increased with time in days after deposit and was higher (29.93%, 32.43 % and 33.25%, 41.65%) at 80 to 100 days of placement above- and below-ground, respectively. Moreover, the exchangeable basic cations and chemical compositions of litters were not consistent with respect to DOD. Regression analysis of nitrogen (N) and organic carbon (OC) showed that these elements significantly contributed to the high (86 %) overall decomposition of litter (p < 0.05, p < 0.01) below-ground level. It is, therefore, concluded that decomposition of leaf litters occur faster below ground than above ground within the forest plantation.

Opis:
An important factor in endodontic therapy is forming a tooth seal as a temporary restoration, which prevents leakage of medicines into the oral cavity, infiltration of microorganisms, and contamination of the root canal system by fluids or food debris. Suitable physicochemical analysis and usability evaluation of restorative materials, i.e. microhardness, abrasion and compression resistance, surface structure, behaviour at different temperatures, the sealing of tooth margins, the ease of insertion and removal, allow one to choose the material that will be most favourable for medical treatment. The aim of the study is to determine, in vitro, changes of the surface structure that arise over time in commonly used preparations for temporary dental fillings. The results showed significant structural changes occurring over time, especially at a temperature of 37°C (inflammation to be), which, for a long-term use, may have a negative impact on the treatment.

Opis:
Triacetone triperoxide (3,3,6,6,9,9-hexamethyl-1,2,4,5,7,8-hexoxonane; TATP) is one of the most frequently used improvised explosives, often misused worldwide. In our previous studies, we had observed that the kind of acid used to catalyse its formation has a significant influence on TATP's properties. TATP was prepared using five different acids that are often used in improvised conditions. All of the samples were subjected to natural ageing in both open and closed vials at laboratory temperature. During ageing, TATP sublimes and decomposes. The changes in crystal size and shape after ageing were documented by optical microscopy. The mass loss was monitored about every third day during ageing. Samples prepared using sulphuric and perchloric acids lose weight more quickly than the others due to chemical decomposition. The friction sensitivity was determined for all samples before and after ageing. Neither the type of acid used nor the influence of closing the vials had any significant influence on the friction sensitivity after ageing. The friction sensitivity of all tested samples of TATP was about the same ? between that of lead azide and that of mercury fulminate.

Serum cystatin C concentration, generally accepted as renal function marker, is associated with cardiovascular risk and metabolic syndrome. Recent studies indicate that cystatin C increases in human obesity and that adipose tissue contributes to enhanced serum cystatin C concentration in obese subjects. The aim of the study was to assess whether a reduction in body and fat mass after bariatric surgery has any impact on serum cystatin C concentrations.Material and methods. Serum from 27 obese patients were tested before and 6 months after bariatric surgery. Twenty healthy subjects with normal body weight served as controls. Serum cystatin C concentrations were assayed by ELISA.Results. Serum cystatin C concentrations were significantly higher in obese patients compared with non-obese subjects. Decrease of body and fat mass after bariatric surgery resulted in improvement of several parameters associated with cardiovascular risk and metabolic syndrome, like serum lipids, blood pressure and insulin sensitivity. Surprisingly the mean postoperative serum cystatin C concentration was not significantly different from that before surgery. Serum creatinine and GFR also remained unchanged.Conclusion. The results presented here suggest that serum cystatin C concentration is not tightly associated with body and fat mass loss in obese patients after bariatric surgery.

Opis:
In this paper, we present a study on stability of popular biopolymer poly(lactide acid) (PLA) under degradation process. As a main objective of this study we investigate an influence of polymer decomposition on decrease of its two physicochemical parameters – dynamic viscosity and molecular mass. To include the molar mass distribution we calculate three various mass averages: the number, the weight and the viscosity molar mass. To simulate the polylactide behavior at the atomic level we use molecular dynamics method in conjunction with reactive force field ReaxFF. To provide degradation conditions similar to human interior system we operate in the MD-NVT conditions at the temperature 310K. Based on reported in literature values of polylactide density we develop computational model of its amorphous structure. We achieve full compliance with expectations – obtained values of PLA viscosity and mass are steadily dropping. Determined trends confirm progressive polymer decomposition resulting in deterioration of polymer durability. The obtained results may be use in a future to predict a lifetime of biomedical polymer implants.
Otrzymane wyniki obliczeń są całkowicie zgodne z przewidywaniami – wartości lepkości i mas spadają wraz z postępem procesu degradacji skutkując obniżoną trwałością biomateriału. Uzyskane wyniki mogą w przyszłości posłużyć do budowy modelu predykcyjnego określającego czas życia polimerowych implantów.

Opis:
The Frasnian-Famennian (F-F) mass extinctions saw the global loss of all genera belonging to the tropically confined order Atrypida (and Pentamerida): though Famennian forms have been reported in the literafure, none can be confirmed. Losses were more severe during the Givetian (including the extinction of the suborder Davidsoniidina, and the reduction of the suborder Lissatrypidina to a single genus), but origination rates in the remaining suborder surviving into the Frasnian kept the group alive, though much reduced in biodiversity from the late Early and Middle Devonian. In the terminal phases of the late Palmatolepis rhenana and P. linguiformis zones at the end of the Frasnian, during which the last few Atrypidae dechned, no new genera originated, and thus the Atrypida were extirpated. There is no evidence for an abrupt termination of all lineages at the F-F boundary, nor that the Atrypida were abundant at this time, since all groups were in decline and impoverished. Atypida were well established in dysaerobic, muddy substrate, reef lagoonal and off-reef deeper water settings in the late Givetian and Frasnian, alongside a range of brachiopod orders which sailed through the F-F boundary: tropical shelf anoxia or hypoxia seems implausible as a cause for atrypid extinction. Glacial-interglacial climate cycles recorded in South America for the Late Devonian, and their synchronous global cooling effect in low latitudes, as well as loss of the reef habitat and shelf area reduction, remain as the most likely combined scenarios for the mass extinction events.

Opis:
The paper presents methodology for determining water mass and pressure drop in ducts with fixed co-current and no-slip two-phase flow. The dispersed liquid phase (water) is present in the air as a result of wet air from underground excavations being distributed in some sections of a discharge pathway, or local water mass sources (or its local outlets) formed by the natural phenomenon of water vapor condensation. For such cases, static pressure losses were determined, which resulted from the force of gravity of the mass of water droplets occurring in the air stream in the duct.
W pracy przedstawiono metodologię wyznaczania masy wody i spadku ciśnienia w przewodach z ustalonym współprądowym bezpoślizgowym przepływem dwufazowym.
