The presented study aims to investigate the impact of cultural intelligence on management effectiveness and conflict management styles. The target population of this research includes all senior managers of universities and higher education institutions in Urmia. The nature of the study requires the use of a descriptive-correlational research method. Findings of the study show that there is a significant relationship between cultural intelligence and management effectiveness. Results of stepwise regression analysis show that components of cultural intelligence allow for predicting the avoidance style. Moreover, among the components of cultural intelligence only the metacognitive cultural intelligence allows for predicting management effectiveness.

In order to remain competitive in the current market, organizations must change. There are several ways to accomplish changes by adapting to the market, and one of the most effective tools is adopting an efficient management and performance strategy. The process appears to us as a managerial overview of interventions through which the manager provides, organizes, coordinates, and controls the decisions his employees, for the attainment of unity in terms of economic profitability and social utility.
W celu zachowania konkurencyjności na ciągle ewoluującym rynku, organizacje muszą się rozwijać. Istnieje kilka sposobów na dokonanie zmian w organizacjach, tak aby dostosować je do rynku. Jednym z najbardziej skutecznych narzędzi jest przyjęcie efektywnej strategii zarządzania i wydajności. Proces ten wydaje się autorom optymalny pod względem realizacji funkcji zarządzania. Właściwa implementacja funkcji kierowania, umożliwia managerowi osiągnięcie celu, którym jest jedność pod względem rentowności ekonomicznej i użyteczności społecznej.

In the research carried out by one of Polish research agencies [Pentor 2010], local administration offices were in general seen as institutions which, despite high expenditures, maintained inefficient operations and as a result did fully satisfy the needs of citizens. In addition, searching for the causes of failures in projects, the lack of professional approach to project management should be highlighted, which relates to the undertaken ad hoc adaptation activities to changes in the environment, and the implementation of projects in interim and in unsystematic way. The research found that the consequence of this state of affairs was the reduction of the effectiveness of implementation of projects and of synergistic effect created by audited entity. As a result, the growing importance of project management in the functioning of local government units in Poland, with low levels of performance previously practiced in this field, tended to take the search for a new approach to project management in the units.

Self-management is a relatively new concept. Only a human with the sustainable personality, a relatively broad knowledge of the surrounding reality and the sense of his / her own life is able to wisely pursue his / her far-reaching life goals. The balance between the most crucial aspects of personality, i.e. physicality, mentality, spirituality and emotionality, is the most important condition to make the above possible. If a person treats those characteristics in a balanced manner and none of them gains a significant advantage over others it should be assumed that all decisions concerning the present and future socio-occupational and personal life will be rational, deliberate and planned in such a way that any socio-situational conditions never interfere his / her traced out vision of life.

The growing trend of evidence-based management (EBM) in recent years is rooted in praxeology, but also in the concept of evidencebased practice (EBP). This concept is based on the belief that all decisions and actions should be based on the most current and best available knowledge, including knowledge and information derived from research. This is particularly true for marketing decisions. The primary medium of information in marketing is marketing metrics. Their extensive use enables making effective decisions. The purpose of the article is to identify the scope of usage of marketing metrics on the Polish market as part of an EBM approach. The paper is based on the survey conducted on a sample of 89 marketing managers in November 2022 among participants and graduates of The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) programmes. The findings indicate a fairly wide range of indicators used and their balanced nature, with a slight predominance of strategic and financial indicators and an increase in the importance of online metrics at the same time.

. Educational activities are the foundation of sustainable development. Educating the public in the field of ecological behaviour makes it possible to change the behaviour perceived as negative by other members of society and then slowly replace it with one that is acceptable and well regarded. Developing the correct attitudes in a society means that such attitudes will be obvious and natural for the next generations. This would lead to changes in the behaviour of residents and, thereby, help reduce their negative impact on the environment. A special role is played by local government units in this process, including primarily, the municipality. In carrying out their own tasks they fulfil the demands of education for sustainable development directly and indirectly. A direct impact manifests itself in educational activities, promotions, and other activities affecting the environmental awareness of residents. Indirect activities arise from the fact that local government units fulfil their own tasks in the field of environmental protection, urban planning, or investments. Using these channels, the authorities at the municipal level can influence residents and other stakeholders through encouraging them to present desired behaviours through moulding appropriate attitudes and promoting specific patterns. The main purpose of this article is to point out the role of local authorities in education for sustainable development (ESD) and give a few examples of individual activities. At the same time, an attempt is made to distinguish the main areas of activities in ESD at the local level.

Our study features a financial institute facing credit risk. Hedging credit risk by offsetting an open position with an opposite one in the financial market is important for financial intermediaries, which are concerned with both the profitability and risk of their operations. As risk management is crucial for the financial institute, the issues of how it is optimally determined and how it adjusts to changes in the financial environment deserve closer scrutiny. We extend the analysis of hedging with financial instruments against credit risk to the case of multiple types of credit risk. We show that standard results on the optimal hedge ratio and risk management effectiveness in the case of one single source of credit risk to carry over a loan portfolio in a non-trivial but intuitive way. While we focus on credit risk and credit derivatives, our analysis can be easily applied to other financial assets, which can be traded in futures market.

Seaport management environment has continually changed over the last few decades due to increasing external pressure for seaports to be more competitive, active, dynamic and growing sustainably. These changes have created the need to manage organisational effectiveness in order to monitor port performance and achieve organisational objectives. While organisational effectiveness has been well known in organisational management and important in port management, its application to the seaport sector is limited. This paper presents exploratory research into critical factors of Saudi Arabian seaports’ organisational effectiveness. A Delphi method was applied. Data were collected from a two-round survey of the Saudi Arabian seaports, and interviews of 43 senior staff from Saudi Arabian seaports. A mixed method combining quantitative and qualitative analysis was conducted. A total of thirty-one (31) factors from six different dimensions, namely human resource management, customer service, finance, operation, marketing, research & development, were identified to be influential to OE. The gathered data are no doubt important to seaports because only limited research has been conducted on the application of the organisational effectiveness concept to the seaport sector. Findings of this research regarding selecting and evaluating the most influential factors of OE are relevant to decision makers in managing seaport organisations.

The research goal was to analyse an employee’s position from the top management’s point of view, defined in two dimensions: employees’ potential and their effectiveness. The article uses a brief literature review and qualitative research based on interviews with management. The interviews were conducted in two time intervals – the first part in 2018 and the second part in 2019. In the research, top management consisted of a Chief Executive Officer, an Agile Coach and a Human Resources Business Partner. The people in the above positions were responsible for retaining employees, creating possible development paths, and the utilization of human potential. Additional research purposes were to find out how the employee’s position has changed over the years, and how much the leader’s position in the team has influenced the changes. The study covered the situation of 34 programmers and IT analysts who worked in 8 technology teams. The assessment of the situation before and after twelve months showed real consequences of the management’s decision-making process and provided recommendations for future research.

Rapid development of technologies led to emergence of new opportunities for businesses such as effective management of knowledge resources for achieving organizational performance. The purpose of this paper was to determine whether the agencies are using KM systems available on the market, what are the reasons for their adoption, and explore the adequacy of implemented systems, and to define the characteristics of “ideal” KM systems for small organizations. In that sense, the main goal of the research was to explore the adoption degree of information technology for knowledge management in small tourist agencies with fewer than 20 employees. Based on survey among small tourist agencies conducted upon the sample of 68 usable responses from on-line questionnaire, this research outlines position and development trends in using information systems for knowledge management answering following questions: (a) Do agencies recognize the benefits of using knowledge management systems and in which segments of their business?: (b) What types of knowledge management systems they use and in which business segments?: (c) What are the reasons that agencies may not use knowledge management systems? In the research, the mathematical-statistical methods have been used, in order to analyse the attitude of the small Croatian tourist businesses toward usage of modern technologies to bust their business performances. The results also have indicated the reasons for low adoption of IT KM solutions in their everyday business operations. Based on the conducted analysis, a framework specification of an “ideal” KM system has been suggested.
Brz razvoj tehnologija doveo je do pojave novih prilika za organizacije kao što je djelotvorno upravljanje resursima znanja za postizanje organizacijske uspješnosti. Svrha ovog rada bila je utvrditi koriste li agencije sustave UZ dostupne na tržištu, koji su razlozi za njihovo usvajanje, te istražiti adekvatnost implementiranih sustava i definirati karakteristike „idealnih“ sustava UZ za male organizacije, U tom je smislu glavni cilj istraživanja bio istražiti razinu usvojenosti informacijske tehnologije za upravljanje znanjem u malim turističkim agencijama s manje od 20 zaposlenih. Na temelju ankete provedene među malim turističkim agencijama na uzorku od 68 valjanih odgovora iz on-line upitnika, ovo istraživanje ocrtava položaj i trendove razvoja uporabe informacijskih sustava za upravljanje znanjem odgovarajući na sljedeća pitanja: (a) prepoznaju li agencije koristi od korištenja sustave upravljanja znanjem i u kojim segmentima svog poslovanja, (b) koje vrste sustava upravljanja znanjem koriste i u kojim poslovnim segmentima, (c) koji su razlozi da se sustavi upravljanja znanjem ne koriste? U istraživanju su korištene matematičko-statističke metode za analizu odnosa malog hrvatskog turističkog poduzeća prema korištenju suvremenih tehnologija radi poboljšanja njihovih poslovnih rezultata. Rezultati su ukazali i na razloge slabog usvajanja IT UZ rješenja u svakodnevnom poslovanju. Na temelju provedene analize predložena je okvirna specifikacija „idealnog“ sustava UZ.

W badaniach wykorzystano dwie grupy krów (jałówki oraz krowy) rasy HF, którym zamocowano pedometry typu AfiAct oraz Gyuho na 65 dni. Analizowano aktywność dobową i miesięczną krów, uwzględniając wiek, laktację, wielkość produkcji mleka, fazę laktacji oraz termin wystąpienia rui. Określono efektywność wykorzystania obu modeli pedometrów w wykrywaniu rui u krów i jałówek. Stwierdzono duże zróżnicowanie w dobowej aktywności, w zależności od badanych czynników oraz wysoką skuteczność urządzeń w wykrywaniu rui u krów (93–95%) i jałówek (89%). Stwierdzono, że najczęściej odpoczywają krowy w II laktacji; najdłuższy czas odpoczynku charakteryzuje krowy do 100 dni laktacji, natomiast najwięcej czasu na odpoczynek w ciągu doby potrzebują krowy o wydajności dziennej powyżej 40 kg.
The study used four groups of Holstein-Friesian cows (2 heifers and 2 cows), which were fitted with pedometers (AfiAct and Gyuho) for a period of 65 days. Daily and monthly activity of the cows was analysed with regard to age, lactation, production level, lactation stage and the time of estrus onset. Efficiency of both pedometry systems in the detection of estrus in cows and heifers was determined. Large variations were found in daily activity depending on the treatment factors. Pedometers ensured high heat detection rates of 93–95% for cows and 89% for heifers. It was found that second lactation cows were the group that rested most often, the longest time spent resting per lying bout was characteristic of cows up to 100 days of lactation, and cows with a daily milk yield of more than 40 kg showed the longest resting time over a 24–hour period.
