Opis:
In recent years project management has become a complex and diverse field of scientific research. It embodies a number of specific tools and techniques, choice of which to particular project is far from being obvious, especially for the beginners. Such situation rationalizes efforts aiming at the development of methods of training, which are more efficient than the “trial-and-error” approach. In this context the paper presents a web application that simulates real life scenarios and allows for developing skills, among others, in identifying the needed/available resources against the dynamically changing goals. The platform teaches the agile approach to project management with Scrum and gives an opportunity to “materialize” the progress made by users with an original piece of software. The prototype of the web application has been successfully tested at Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University.

Project management within the automotive production in specific departments is still done separately and does not interact with engineering process. Our work aims on providing flexible data insights on collaboration tasks within such environments. We apply semantic technologies RDF, OWL and SPARQL with a specific domain related ontology PROTARES (PROject TAsks RESources) to interlink, describe and query domain knowledge. As proof of concept we are introducing an experimental visualisation interface called TaskRadar. Our application resides on domain ontology and allows knowledge based browsing and visualisation of tasks in development process. With this example we want to show, how semantically driven customized views can support monitoring and reflection as well as decision-making within the early phases of the automotive product lifecycle.

The relation and dialectical unity of such categories as quality of education and economic security of higher education institutionsare scientifically proven in the paper. Among such institutions the following two groups are distinguished: state (i.e.,all-Ukrainian) and regional. The operation state of the latter is investigated on an example of the Kharkiv oblast. The main components of the management cycle of education sector in Ukraine and such elements of quality of education as quality of the educational process, quality of students training, quality of educational services and quality (state) of education economics in whole country, region, or a single educational institution are determined. Current study proves that the education quality issues need regular state and public monitoring, as they are caused by the requirements of today’s market and by increasing competition for students between higher education institutions.

Opis:
The goal of this publication is to confirm that the pattern of operation, developed based on the Krav Maga combat system and crisis management, provides an individual with safety against the threat of a street attack. At the beginning of the article, the issues of self-defence were discussed, the Krav Maga combat system was presented and the most important elements of the crisis management theory were introduced. Later in the paper, an analysis of each of the crisis management phases was carried out in relation to the risk of a street attack. The author answers the research questions in detail: What is the best source through which you can learn effective self-defence? How should an individual behave in particular phases of crisis management against the threat of a street attack to ensure its own safety? The analysis made in the paperwork based on available sources, observations and the author’s experience gained gives an unambiguous confirmation that combat systems are the best source through which one can learn effective self-defence, because they take into account all the elements that accompany a street attack. Following the scheme included in the publication, every person, regardless of age, sex or physical posture can effectively increase their own personal safety.

Opis:
The industrial revolution taking place since the 18th century has brought the global economies to the stage of mass production, mass industrialization and spreading ideas connected with its efficiency. The most famous of its kind is Fordism and its modern variations called PostFordism or Neo-Fordism. We can still see traditional way of producing things in some parts of the world, and the leading economies are using Ford’s ideas or the modifications of the Ford’s concepts. But there is a question about the place of these models in the modern economy, especially because mass-production causes mass-waste and modern societies has woken up to the reality of the global pollution, climate change or just the simple fact that the amount of the raw materials is limited. The social mood is slowly changing so there should be a change to the way we produce and consume things as well. There is a question: can we proceed within existing models or should we think outside the box so we can invent more suitable way of looking at efficiency and effectiveness. The objective of this paper is to contribute to the discussion about the future of how are we going to produce things. It is based on the literature review considering Fordism and its variations, Product Life Cycle facing issues like pollution, massive waste and changes in modern economy, as well as on the case study of implementing waste reduction activities in the product’ design phase in the industrial plant based in one of the EU countries – Poland.

Background: The role of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) in business change varies in scope and impact. PLM initiatives range from Information System (IS) change to strategic business transformation, and capabilities to implement PLM successfully are unclear. The paper identifies a PLM framework for transition and related variables. Understanding these variables influence successful PLM transformation. Methods: The methods used in this paper include a literature review on existing frameworks available for PLM initiatives. This paper is based on a PLM case study done between 2011-2015, when the company's strategy transformed it from an engineering company to a product and service company. Results: The results show that strategy-driven PLM transformation impacting a company on many levels, and PLM focusing on IS-driven process harmonisation fails due to limited knowledge of the business models, products and services. Conclusions: The conclusions are that PLM is at the core of business transformation and cross-functional impacting products, services and customers.

Now is the time to take our future more seriously and start providing solutions for tomorrow´s world. The new notion or significant specification of the term “BLUE to GREEN” infrastructures in buildings in the modern information age is the expression of the sustainable development of a „smart city“ society and beyond. We introduce our experimental platforms representing different types of green roofs, green and water walls as possible solutions. These experimental sites in the University Campus were created on the basis of researche dealing with green roofs and their retention qualities, as well as green walls and their impact on the microclimate and the possibility of using rain and gray water that could be filtrated through the media of these structures. The paper describes the world-wide conditions on the basis of which this issue is up to date and addressed. The outputs from the individual measurements will be related to water cycle issues, green walls and roofs constructions.

Increasing the role of rail in balancing the transport of goods is a big challenge all over the world nowadays. Statistics clearly show a large disproportion of the volume transported by various means of inland transport where the railway business is still in the minority. One of the reasons is the cost of transported goods. It is important to know how costs affecting the final price of transported goods by rail are divided in order to reduce them. This paper presents the possibility of using life cycle costs of the product in order to take productivity to the next level and save considerable amounts of time, money, and resources. The aim of this article is to define what are Life Cycle Costs and if lean tools may be applied in transport companies. The research has been conducted over the number of years in one of the largest rail freight operator in Poland. The main goal of the investigation was to analyze costs of the diesel locomotive maintenance process in a whole lifecycle and investigate the impact of using lean tools on those costs. In this project lean tools such as: Standard Work Combination Sheet, Spaghetti diagram, Visual Management, Cause and Effect Diagram, PDCA, 5S, standardization cards were used. For better analysis Voice of the Customer and Critical to Quality tools were added. The results of this analysis are presented in this paper and prove the big impact on reducing time, improving product quality as well as integrating people, data, processes and business systems. The use of lean is deliberate because it can lead to 50% cost reduction of the P1 maintenance level on diesel locomotives with a significant reduction of working hours up to 60%. The outcome of this analysis should help the company to achieve a significant reduction in the cost of maintaining locomotives, which will contribute to a lower cost of transporting goods by rail.

Life Cycle Assessment, included in company environmental management methods, has particular importance in marketing management. Analysis of dangers to the environment through tools such as the LCA method allows for comparisons of alternative company management strategies. LCA is characterised as a technique for environmental management that enables environmental impact assessment of the product, process, industry, and even the comprehensive economic sector. LCA also influences decisions regarding environmental policy modification, but most importantly, it influences a company's marketing activities. The LCA technique is applied the world over with great effectiveness in studying specific phases of a product's life cycles – from 'birth to death'; however, Poland's experience in this domain constitutes continuously developing research areas. The experience of foreign research centres confirms the possibility of applying LCA techniques in supporting environmental risk assessment of innovative technologies where LCA is used to study the environmental impact of a new generation product, i.e. flocculants from polymer wastes. This article presents the results of a study of the effectiveness of applying a new generation of polyelectrolyte (gained from polystyrene waste) in treating industrial wastewater and the LCA environmental impact assessment, which was carried out using SimaPro software. Based on the analysis of the results of the application of sodium salts of sulfone derivatives of polystyrene in the treatment of mine water, it was found that these products significantly reduced the pollution indicators of mine water from KWK1. Accordingly, they provided the basis for the development of technical-scale technology.

The process of software development has become so dynamic that it nowadays requires more and more supporting tools. An organization which intends to have such tools implemented must take into account its possible future needs. Complex solutions usually offer greater variety of available options and functionalities but are costly to implement. This paper presents some models o IT project management together with the supporting software. Owing to applying the resource management policy at the stage of production and implementation one may assess the risk and identify potential threats. The discussed issues may shed some light on potential difficulties occurring at the particular stages of software production management whereas the conclusions may help people in charge choose the best model, including its implementation strategy. The first model are dedicated tools created from scratch and often preceded by the analysis of the existing solutions and the needs of the company and the customers. The second is to seek from the very beginning multifunction and complex tools for the big or well-developed IT systems providers. This article is to present the models regarding the IT project management (together with the related supporting tools) which are applied in the IT companies involved in providing the foreign customers with the bases of knowledge. On the basis of the experience gained while designing and developing dedicated software (by means of the above-mentioned tools) and its implementation one drew some conclusions concerning e.g., risk assessment; potential threats at every stage of the project lifecycle; improvement of the quality and production time of the software; reduction of the number of errors; improvement of the internal communication within the project team (it is the first step in the development of the design patterns). The patterns should help the managers choose the proper management model and related tools for the implementation and particular project tasks.

Research background: Deteriorating economic conditions and a negative outlook increase the pressure on financial management and the need to show high financial performance. According to Positive Accounting Theory, the growing risk of bankruptcy is associated with the phenomenon of earnings management. Bankruptcy risk and the quality of reported profits, along with other aspects of financial performance, vary throughout the company's life cycle. Nevertheless, these factors or their interactions are investigated only to a very small extent. Purpose of the article: The aim of this study is to clarify the impact of corporate life cycle and bankruptcy on earnings management, in order to describe behaviour of companies at different stages of corporate life cycle. Methods: A hierarchical mixed model with a random time and industry effect was chosen as appropriate because it allows the investigation of multilevel data that is not independent. The sample covers the financial indicators of more than 33,000 Central European companies from 2015-2019. The non-sequential Dickinson model, company age, and three models of accrual earnings management were used as proxies for the company's life cycle and quality of reported profit. Findings & value added: Earnings management and bankruptcy risk have a U-shape, indicating that financially distressed firms reduce reported accounting profit at the Introduction, Decline and, to a lesser extent, at the Growth stage. Slovak and Czech companies manipulate profits to a similar extent, Hungarian companies increase accounting profit to a greatest extent than the surveyed countries by controlling bankruptcy - life cycle effect; however, the variability of accounting manipulations across industries has not been demonstrated. These findings imply that start-ups and declining businesses provide crooked financial statements to obtain more favourable debt covenants, and estimating discretionary accruals using life-cycle subsamples can improve the predictive power of accrual earnings management models.

Life cycle (or stage) models were developed to study organizational growth. The primary objective of applying such models is to determine the relevant outcomes (e.g. management, HR, etc.) for the different stages of organizational growth on the basis of contributing factors. The authors research, conducted in 2007, sought to discover how companies (subsidiaries of multinational companies as well as indigenous Hungarian small-, medium-, and large-sized enterprises) have adapted to the accelerating changes in the economy over recent years, and what kinds of change might be expected in the employment and personnel management practices of these organizations at specific stages of the life cycle models. This paper presents the theoretical background and empirical findings of this research.
