The present study focused the phenomenon of competitiveness in rapidly challenging environment. The pharmaceutical industry of Thailand considered as most progressive in Southeast Asian region and needs to achieve competitive advantage. The present study intends to determine the influence of supply chain management practices including logistics integration and organizational learning in SCM perspective to achieve competitive advantages. The study was conducted on pharmaceutical industry of Thailand as data was collected from firm through questionnaires later it was examined by utilizing PLS. The results of study depicted positive significant results between organizational learning and competitive advantage, logistics integration and competitive advantages. The study intends to determine the moderation role of total quality management (TQM) between exogenous and endogenous constructs of study. The study reported significant relationship of TQM by strengthening the relationship between logistics integration and competitive advantage but no moderation effect was observed between organizational learning and competitive advantage.
W niniejszym badaniu skupiono się na zjawisku konkurencyjności w szybko wymagającym środowisku. Przemysł farmaceutyczny Tajlandii jest uważany za najbardziej rozwijający się w regionie Azji Południowo-Wschodniej i musi osiągnąć przewagę konkurencyjną. Niniejsze badanie ma na celu określenie wpływu praktyk zarządzania łańcuchem dostaw, w tym integracji logistyki i uczenia się organizacji w perspektywie SCM w celu osiągnięcia przewagi konkurencyjnej. Badanie zostało przeprowadzone na tajlandzkim przemyśle farmaceutycznym, ponieważ dane zebrano od firmy za pomocą kwestionariuszy, a następnie zbadano je przy użyciu PLS. Wyniki badania przedstawiają pozytywne znaczące wyniki między nauką organizacji a przewagą konkurencyjną, integracją logistyczną i przewagą konkurencyjną. Badanie ma na celu określenie roli moderatora w całkowitym zarządzaniu jakością (TQM) między egzogennymi i endogennymi konstruktami badania. Badanie wykazało istotny związek TQM poprzez wzmocnienie związku między integracją logistyki a przewagą konkurencyjną, ale nie zaobserwowano żadnego efektu moderacji między nauką organizacji a przewagą konkurencyjną.

Cultural characteristics and different managerial aspects that may influence the degree of internal integration through facilitating and hindering factors play an important role in exploring internal integration of different functions. The following paper examines the relationship between cultural characteristics of logistics managers of different nationalities and inter-functional integration of company’s logistics and marketing functions. More specifically, it aims to investigate whether and to what extent cultural traits and nationalities of logistics managers may influence the level of integration of logistics and marketing functions. For this purpose, the level of internal integration and the role of national cultures will be examined. Using quantitative research methods, the relationship between culture and the level of internal integration between logistics and marketing functions will be examined. A small data sample for the research was collected from Slovenian parent retail companies and their foreign subsidiaries. The findings suggest that there is a connection between the level of integration and cultural characteristics of employees from logistics function.

Opis:
Changes in the transport infrastructure in China, Asia and the Russian Federation go along with the main regional geo-economic trends of their development. The core of the suggested initiatives from China is the inclusion of Asian countries and Russia in the list of transit states in order to form alternative multimodal transport corridors in the direction «East-West» (China-EAEU-EU route). The present research deals with the problems of the development of logistics infrastructure in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) with the purpose of further improvement of transit opportunities in the delivery of goods from China to the European Union. The authors of the article take into consideration that the EAEU logistics infrastructure is an established and evolvable system which is formed under the influence of globalisation processes and regionalisation of the world economy. The unified transport system of the EAEU countries formed during the Soviet period needs modernisation. Modern conditions of transportation routes in EAEU are observed on the basis of the specific examples as well as the transformation and modernisation options of a transport vector in the direction of China-EAEU-EU. The main trends in the infrastructure development in Central Asia are reflected in the regional projects of railway and automobile communications with the integrational priorities. The development of logistics infrastructure is essential for the full realisation of the transit potential inherent in the integration within the Eurasian region.

Logistics platforms represent a modern approach aimed towards fostering and facilitating logistics activities and business exchange with associated flows in a specific geographic area. Though a widespread buzzword in political and business circles the logistics platform still lacks a clear definition and thorough understanding of the concept in its entirety. We examined the understanding of that term among various types of organizations in Slovenia and Poland. Cross-sectional and inter-state research was conducted in Slovenia and Poland. Web-based survey responses from four different types of organisation were obtained, namely: logistics companies; production or service non-logistics companies; branch association/state agency/chamber interest groups; educational institutions. This paper seeks to raise awareness of the implementation complexity of this particular inter-organisational concept, namely logistics platforms. From a practitioner viewpoint, knowing that different stakeholder groups could have differing perceptions of the concept’s content is important.

The disposition of rental articles constitutes a complex logistic problem. In general, those articles circulate in closed logistic systems and their order-oriented transport between different hubs within the network defines a variety of the Traveling-Salesman-Problem (TSP). As the complexity of this problem class grows with the number of parameters involved, resolving the TSP is a challenging task in daily business. This is especially the case in the field of event logistics, a business area, which extends the common problems related to rental articles with a dynamically changing logistic system. This paper addresses the application of methods from the field of autonomous control for the disposition of rental articles in event logistics with a special focus on the integration aspects. As information transparency is an indispensable requirement for the application of autonomous control, the provision of the corresponding hardware for identification, positioning and communication purposes is the first emphasis. The second is the design and integration of the related agent-based disposition software within the typical software landscape of a company. A small enterprise from the relevant business field serves as an example for the integration proceeding.

Researchers of different scientific disciplines, such as management strategies, organizational theories and marketing, have in the past explored relations of mutual influences and the importance of cooperation between different functions in a company. The increased focus on the logistics function has potential to increase competitiveness. This is especially true for globally aimed production companies. In any company, logistics functions cooperate with various related functions such as production, marketing, procurement, engineering or developing new products as well as with financial functions. Each of the aforementioned connections or cooperation among logistics and its complementary functions can have a decisive effect on the company's competitiveness. Using a survey, we determined which activities in the surveyed companies are performed by the logistical function together with the marketing function and which activities they suggest should be performed together but are currently not, meaning they are co-dependent. Since interfunctional integration between logistics and marketing increases the success of a company, we also examined the connection between the current joint performance of activities and the suggested joint performance of activities among the before mentioned sectors, connected to the effectiveness of the company. To examine the mentioned connections among the logistical and marketing functions, Explanatory Factor Analysis (EFA), Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) were performed.

Background: The complexity of natural disasters is a fundamental aspect for coordination and integration activities from the public sectors' perspective. Tasks that are formally independent demonstrate a convergent and integrated character. Therefore, there is a justified need to synergic cooperation of public and private sector, NGOs, UN agencies, IFRC agencies, military and societies actions in the affected region. The main goal of the study was to identify similarities and differences in Japanese and American approaches to humanitarian logistics in the public sectors' perspective. Moreover, the second goal was to prepare an extended humanitarian logistics convergence procedure for national authorities. Methods: Critical analysis has been carried out in two highly developed countries of the global economy. Author indicates determinants which are conditioned by three different types of humanitarian logistics convergence. Results: The article describes the processes of concurrence at Japanese and American level in relation to humanitarian logistics. The characteristic of convergence factors has been followed by theoretical considerations concerning analyzed problem. Author indicates determinants with highest level of convergence as well as with the biggest differentiation. As a result, an extended procedure for national authorities that covers both outstanding approaches has been presented. Conclusions: Neutralizing, minimizing and eliminating of natural disasters' negative effects are not an easy task. The article highlights the importance of public sectors' activities which are fundamental aspects of humanitarian logistics actions. Their coordination and integration play a key role in efficiency. Hence, all authorities interested in the analyzed concept may follow the presented procedure. Nevertheless, there is a necessity to conduct an indicator analysis associated with natural disasters occurrence, economic growth, logistics ratios, risk indexes as well as other determinants that cover convergence.
Wstęp: Złożoność i problematyka występujących katastrof naturalnych stanowi istotny problem koordynacji i integracji działań z poziomu sektora publicznego. Zadania, które formalnie realizowane są w sposób niezależny, wykazują charakter zbieżny i zintegrowany. W związku z powyższym, istnieje uzasadniona potrzeba synergicznej współpracy sektora publicznego, prywatnego, NGO, agend ONZ, agend ruchu IFRC oraz oddolnych działań podejmowanych przez mieszkańców na terenach dotkniętych katastrofą. Celem badania było zidentyfikowanie podobieństw oraz różnic występujących w podejściu do logistyki humanitarnej z perspektywy sektora publicznego w Japonii oraz USA. Ponadto, drugim celem było opracowanie uniwersalnej procedury konwergencji logistyki humanitarnej dla sektora publicznego. Metody: Analizę krytyczną przeprowadzono w dwóch wysokorozwiniętych państwach go-spodarki światowej. Wskazano determinanty powstawania zbieżności, które są określane przez trzy odrębne rodzaje konwergencji logistyki humanitarnej. Wyniki: W artykule opisano procesy powstawania zbieżności na płaszczyźnie japońskiej oraz amerykańskiej w odniesieniu do logistyki humanitarnej. Charakterystyka czynników konwergencji została poprzedzona krótkimi teoretycznymi rozważaniami dotyczącymi analizowanego problemu. Wskazano determinanty cechujące się największym poziomem zbieżności, a także świadczące o znaczącym zróżnicowaniu. W konsekwencji, zaprezentowano uniwersalną procedurę dla zainteresowanych państw łączącą oba wyróżniające się podejścia. Wnioski: Przeciwdziałanie, minimalizowanie i eliminowanie negatywnych skutków katastrof naturalnych nie jest zadaniem prostym. W niniejszym artykule podkreślono istotność funkcjonowania sektora publicznego, który stanowi fundament projektowanych działań z zakresu logistyki humanitarnej. Koordynacja i integracja działań jest kluczowym aspektem warunkującym jej skuteczność. Stąd też, wszystkie jednostki administracji publicznej zainteresowane analizowaną koncepcją mogą wdrożyć zaprezentowaną procedurę. Niemniej jednak, autor artykułu wskazuje na konieczność przeprowadzenia analizy wskaźnikowej dotyczącej występowalności katastrof, wzrostu gospodarczego, mierników logistycznych, czynników ryzyka oraz innych wskaźników, które łącznie świadczą o postępującej konwergencji.

The extent to which relationships in organizations are co-operative depends on the level of internal integration between functional and departmental groups. These relationships become even more critical in international businesses as well as in geographically dislocated subsidiaries. Cultural characteristics and different factors which managr, facilitatr and/or hinder internal integration present the basis for studying internal integration of different functions. Therefore, the following paper discusses various theories of internal integration and its role in organizations. More specifically, it focuses on logistics and marketing functions and explores studies that have investigated and examined the levels of internal integration of logistics and marketing functions. With the objective to identify potential implications, high/low levels of internal integration may have on intercultural communication which occurs in international business practices, the most prominent cultural frameworks are presented to identify implications different levels of internal integration may have for intercultural communication, in particular between Slovenian companies and their foreign subsidiaries.

The aim of the article is to outline the characteristics of supply chain management (SCM) in Bulgaria on the basis of data from the Bulgarian business practice and to reveal the existing reserves for improvement. The research methodology includes the systemisation and development of variables measuring two aspects of SCM: internal - the integration between the company's functions, and external - the integration between the companies in the supply chain. Personal interviews on the basis of a questionnaire were used for the collection of the data. The general conclusion is that there are organizational prerequisites for internal integration of the logistics activities in the Bulgarian companies and they become more cooperative towards their partners too. But they lag behind the foreign companies in the areas of goals setting and performance management, the investments in information technologies and the greater focus on the relationships with customers. A main outcome of the research is the development of the model of SCM application in Bulgaria which constitutes of three phases: traditional relationships, coordination, collaboration and full integration. The second phase consists of three stages that correspond to different degrees of coordination. The role of the logistics sector for SCM is also assessed. Although the logistics service providers in Bulgaria lag behind the logistics sector in well-developed countries, as a whole they demonstrate an aspiration for the improvement of their competitive position and proneness to implement contemporary business practices which could contribute to the success of SCM application in Bulgaria.
