Opis:
The local structure of liquid copper was determined using Steinhardt order parameters, with particular attention paid to icosahedral clusters. The positions of atoms were obtained from three sets of molecular dynamics simulations, with the forces obtained from: the Sutton-Chen (SC) potential, the Naval Research Laboratory total energy tight-binding (NRL-TB) method and the divide-and-conquer learn-on-the-fly (DCLOTF) method, respectively. A broad range of local geometries appeared, which is a typical result for close-packed liquids. Among them a number of icosahedral clusters were detected. The highest density of icosahedral clusters was obtained at the temperature of 1000K for the NRL-TB and DCLOTF simulations and 1200K for the SC simulations. I propose various means of analysing the icosahedral clusters formed in liquid copper. The average number of the clusters, their lifetime and correlations between them at various temperatures were studied as a function of the approach used to generate the trajectories. Finally, I studied the formation and decay of icosahedral clusters.

Opis:
Structural changes in mixtures of liquid Bi with small Cu and Ni particles were studied at temperatur es of 615 and 1145K. Microstructures of the composites were observed (SEM) and analyzed after treatment at different temperatures and various durations of stirring. The structure of the mixtures of Bi with Cu(Ni) particles was investigated by means of X-ray diffraction, both in the solid and liquid state.

Opis:
The combined effect of conjugation, external magnetic field and oscillation on the enhancement of heat transfer in the laminar flow of liquid metals between parallel plate channels is analyzed. In order to make our results useful to the design engineers, we have considered here only the wall materials that are widely employed in liquid metal heat exchangers. Indeed, all the results obtained through this mathematical investigation are in excellent agreement with the available experimental results. The effective thermal diffusivity κe is increased by 3 · 106 times due to oscillation and that the heat flux as high as 1.5 · 1010 (W/m2) can be achieved. Based on our investigation, we have recommended the best choice of liquid metal heat carrier, wall material and its optimum thickness along with the optimum value of the frequency to maximize the heat transfer rate. At the optimum frequency, by choosing a wall of high thermal conductivity and optimum thickness, an increase of 19.98% in κe can be achieved. Our results are directly relevant to the design of a heat transfer device known as electromagnetic dream pipe which is a very recent development.

Opis:
This work presents studies on the recovery of platinum group metals (PGM), especially platinum and rhodium, from spent automotive converters using hydrometallurgical techniques such as leaching and liquid-liquid extraction. The XRD analysis confirmed the presence of indialite – the high temperature hexagonal form of cordierite (the main catalyst building material) in the solid samples. The influence of time and temperature on the leaching of PGM from spent automotive converters was investigated. The largest amounts of Pt(IV) and Rh(III) were leached with freshly prepared aqua regia and a mixture of HCl, $H_2SO_4$ , and $H2O_2$. Further, liquid-liquid extraction with quaternary phosphonium ionic liquid (Cyphos IL 101) was applied to recover PGM from the leach solutions (after leaching with a mixture of HCl, $H_2SO_4$, and $H_2O_2$ and to separate Pt(IV) from Rh(III).

Opis:
The sewage sludge recycling as an agricultural land resource has received a great deal of attention worldwide. This practice has highly increased because of ever-increasing municipal wastewater production and the awareness of its fertilizing potential as amendment resources. However, there is a concern about land spreading linked mainly to health associated risks due to the presence of diverse pollutants. Thus, sewage spreading management is a key factor the guarantees benefits and avoids risks. The present work aimed to investigate the benefits and risks of sewage sludge (SS) application on agricultural land. To this end, physicochemical main parameters and bacteriological indicators, fecal coliform (FC) and fecal streptococcus (FS), of the sewage sludge generated form WWTP of Skhirat, Morocco, were performed during the period 2018–2019. The obtained results of physicochemical parameters reveal high concentration of organic matter in SS, which reach 96.3 mg/l, and in nutrients. Indeed, total Kjeldahl nitrogen TKN reaches a maximum of 3791 mg/l, potassium K+ reaches 58.71 mg/l. In addition, the average content of FC and FS are around 5.40 CFU/ml and 5.85 CFU/ml, respectively, whereas total phosphorus reaches 508.25 mg/l. In addition, concentrations of micronutrients such as Cl-, SO42-, Ca2+, Mg2+, and Na+ were high, which is interesting and could benefit for both soils and plant. Furthermore, this sewage sludge contains high concentration of heavy metals, mainly zinc and copper which could limit reuse in land spreading. The obtained results were compared to the applied standards and directives established within the framework of the agricultural spreading.
