Opis:
A stable composition (against crystallization) of germanate glass doped with Yb3+ for mid-infrared laser applications is presented. Broad emission spectrum of Yb3+ was obtained for the fabricated glass. Laser operation was demonstrated in 13 mm long waveguide written in the glass using a femtosecond laser operating at 524 nm center wavelength sending 250 fs ultrashort pulses. The resulting CW laser operated at 1.04 μm in the fundamental mode of the waveguide. The propagation loss through the waveguide was 0.6 dB/cm at 1550 nm for 45 μm diameter of the modified structure. The mode analysis of the developed waveguide structure is also presented in COMSOL Multiphysics to study the electric field distribution through different modes of propagation in the waveguide and the confinement loss associated to them.

Opis:
The optimization problem for fractional discrete-time systems with a quadratic performance index has been formulated and solved. The case of fixed final time and a free final state has been considered. A method for numerical computation of optimization problems has been presented. The presented method is a generalization of the well-known method for discrete-time systems of integer order. The efficiency of the method has been demonstrated on numerical examples and illustrated by graphs. Graphs also show the differences between the fractional and classical (standard) systems theory. Results for other cases of the fractional system order (coefficient ) and not illustrated with numerical examples have been obtained through a computer algorithm written for this purpose.

From the introduction: "The traveling salesman problem is a problem of combinatorial type. Although problems of this type sometimes have a relatively simple formulation, there are many difficulties associated with their solution even when the most up-to-date computers are used. In the 1970s many papers have been devoted to this problem. The purpose of the vast majority of them has been to find more effective solution algorithms. "In this paper we give the solution of the traveling salesman problem via disjunctive graphs. Up to now the elements of disjunctive graphs have been used to solve problems connected with the determination of an optimal task completion sequence.''

Let G=(V, E) be a graph, where V(G) is a non-empty set of vertices and E(G) is a set of edges. We defined dv denote the degree of vertex v∈V(G). The Eccentric Connectivity index ξ(G) and the Connective Eccentric index Cξ(G) of graph G are defined as ξ(G)= [wzór] and Cξ(G)=[wzór] where ε(v) is defined as the length of a maximal path connecting a vertex v to another vertex of G. In this present paper, we compute these Eccentric indices for an infinite family of linear polycene parallelogram benzenod by a new method.

Opis:
The objective of this research was to investigate the effect of adding thermally treated clay on some engineering properties of the untreated expansive clayey soil. Three expansive clayey soil samples obtained from three different sites in the south of Syria have been investigated. They were thermally treated up to three different levels (450°C, 650°C and 850°C) for 3 hours. Three replacement levels of thermally treated clay were used, i.e. 0%, 10% and 20%. The X-ray diffractometer (XRD) technique has been used to detect the crystalline and glassy phase in the clayey samples before and after the thermal treatment. Pozzolanic activity of the thermally treated clayey soil has been studied using the modified Chapelle test and the mechanical strength test at each of the temperature levels. Atterberg limits, compaction, free swell, swelling pressure and linear shrinkage have particularly been investigated. Test results revealed the positive effect of thermally treated clay when added to the natural soil. Plasticity index (PI) was reduced by about 60% when 20% thermally treated clay was added to the natural soil. In addition, 6% lime was added to further investigate the combined effect of lime and calcined clay on the properties of the clayey expansive soil. All investigated properties were significantly improved when 20% thermally treated soil and 6% lime were added together. For instance, swelling pressure and linear shrinkage values were reduced to less than 15% or even much less when compared with those of the natural soil. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energydispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis were employed as well.

Global Competitiveness Index
multi-criteria indices
EU-28 economies
multiple linear regression analyses
Opis:
Research background: Under the current conditions of increasing competitiveness and interdependence, national economies are more influenced by the global business environment and its development. Constantly changing economic, social, political aspects, and many other factors, cause the differences in the global competitiveness of economies, so the economies are forced to analyze their competitive level more complexly. Despite that, there is a lack of research studies analyzing the international competitiveness of EU-28 economies from the point of view various multi-criteria indices. Purpose of the article: The paper investigates the relations between the Global Competitiveness Index (GCI) and other selected multi-criteria indices, namely the Global Innovation Index (GII), the Doing Business Index (DBI), the Economic Freedom Index (EFI) and the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) in the case of EU?28 economies. Methods: In order to investigate the relations between the global competitiveness and selected multi-criteria indices affecting the EU?28 economies, the multiple linear regression analyses were applied. The multiple regression model was quantified for every single year, as well as, the regression model using the average score of all analyzed indices. The secondary data concerning the scores of individual indices were collected based on annually published online reports over the period of 2014?2018. Findings & Value added: The research confirmed that there is a statistically significant dependence between the global competitiveness, corruption and the level of innovation potential within the EU?28 economies. Besides, we identified the worst results in the context of competitiveness evaluation especially in the area of corruption and innovation activities. In this regard, the issue of insufficient innovation development and inappropriate corruption perception is considered to be key determinants influencing the assessment of the global competitiveness of the EU?28 member states. In our opinion, to improve the competitiveness of these countries, targeted activities should be implemented in the frame of national competitive strategies, programs, and policies.

In this paper, there are improved sufficient conditions of boundedness of the L-index in a direction for entire solutions of some linear partial differential equations. They are new even for the one-dimensional case and L≡1. Also, we found a positive continuous function l such that entire solutions of the homogeneous linear differential equation with arbitrary fast growth have a bounded l -index and estimated its growth.

Opis:
This article describe the linear classifier based on convex and piecewise-linear function (CPL) and it application to market prediction. In an experiment we use CPL linear classifier to predict direction of one day change in stock index price. We use classification approach to predict only direction of change (grow or decline) of the index, not it quantity as in regression approach. Total number of instruments used in experiment including currencies is 42. Prediction of one index is based on historical prices of all 42 indexes. Using 7 historical values for each index it produce 294 attributes. Such high dimensional feature space was reduced by feature selection method - relaxed linear separability (RLS). Details of this methodology are also presented. Features was selected and model was build on training data. Test data (holdout data) was used for checking model accuracy. Model in average correctly classify (predict) 51.9 per cent direction of daily index changes.
W artykule opisano klasyfikator liniowy oparty o wypukłe i odcinkowo-liniowe funkcje kary (CPL) i jego zastosowanie w prognozowaniu giełdy. W przeprowadzonym eksperymencie klasyfikator liniowy CPL został użyty do prognozy kierunku jednodniowej zmiany indeksów giełdowych. W zastosowanym podejściu klasyfikacyjnym prognozowano jedynie kierunek zmian (wzrost lub spadek), a nie dokładną wartość indeksu (podejście regresyjne). W eksperymencie użyto 42 instrumentów finansowych, w tym m.in. kursów walut. Jednodniowa prognoza wybranego instrumentu budowana jest w oparciu o wartości historyczne wszystkich 42 instrumentów. Używając 7 danych historycznych dla każdego instrumentu, uzyskano w sumie 294 atrybuty. Tak wielowymiarowa przestrzeń została zredukowana metodą selekcji cech opartą o relaksację liniowej separowalności. Metoda ta została opisana szczegółowo. Selekcja cech i budowa modelu w wybranej podprzestrzeni została przeprowadzona na zbiorze uczącym (treningowym). Natomiast ocena modelu została przeprowadzona na zbiorze testowym. Otrzymany wynik to średnio 51.9 procent prawidłowo sklasyfikowanych (prognozowanych) dziennych zmian indeksów giełdowych.

Opis:
Shatt Al-Arab River in Basrah province, Iraq, was assessed by applying comprehensive pollution index (CPI) at fifteen sampling locations from 2011 to 2020, taking into consideration twelve physicochemical parameters which included pH, Tur., TDS, EC, TH, Na+, K+, Ca+2, Mg+2, Alk., SO4-2, and Cl-. The effectiveness of multiple linear regression (MLR) and artificial neural network (ANN) for predicting comprehensive pollution index was examined in this research. In order to determine the ideal values of the predictor parameters that lead to the lowest CPI value, the genetic algorithm coupled with multiple linear regression (GA-MLR) was used. A multi-layer feed-forward neural network with backpropagation algorithm was used in this study. The optimal ANN structure utilized in this research consisted of three layers: the input layer, one hidden layer, and one output layer. The predicted equation of the comprehensive pollution index was created using the regression technique and used as an objective function of the genetic algorithm. The minimum predicted comprehensive pollution index value recommended by the GA-MLR approach was 0.3777.

Opis:
The purpose of this paper is to determine one factor which represents the whole market behavior on the basis of the rates of return of all equities traded oo this market. In the seminaal Sharpe model the factor is an exogenous varialble which is not determined by the model itself. This paper extends Sharpe's idea, as it assumes that the factor is a linear combination of all the rates of return of all traded equities. To determine this coefiicients of this linear combination we minimize the loss function which expresses the weighted mean square deviation of all rates of return from their predictions, having given the linear combination form of the market index. It is found that the vector of linear coeffcients has to be a nonzero eigenvector associated with the maximal eigenvalue of the appropriately transformed and estimated covariance matrix. The optimal market index for the Warsaw Stock Exchange was compared with the standard index. It occurs that there is only a very small difference between the standard index of this market and the optimal index.
