Opis:
Scomberomorus guttatus is an economical valuable fish in Pangandaran, West Java, Indonesia. Indeed, the catch of large pelagic fish in Pangandaran water is dominated by Scomberomorus guttatus at around 42.30% of the total production of large pelagic fish in 2015-2017. The purpose of this research is to analyze length-weight relationship and condition factors of Scomberomorus guttatus. The samples were collected in August and September 2018 at Cikidang Fishing Port, Pangandaran Regency, West Java. The Scomberomorus guttatus observed during the research had total length ranging from 205 to 685 mmTL, and the length-weight relationship of Scomberomorus guttatus in Pangandaran water was indicated by the equation W=〖0,0000038L〗^3.0839. Furthermore, the growth pattern of Scomberomorus guttatus is positive allometric (b = 3.0839), meaning that weight growth is faster than length growth, while its condition factor range from 0.52 to 1.54 (average - 1.00 ±0.08).

Opis:
The research was conducted at the Tuna Fisheries Research Station, Denpasar, Bali, in July 2018 (3 weeks duration). There were several types of high-value fish incorporated into this research: tuna, skipjack, shrimp, cob, mackerel, snapper, squid, reef fish (grouper, baronang, lobster / barong shrimp) and ornamental fish. Seaweed processing was also assessed. Benoa Fishing Port is one of the tuna landing base bases in Indonesia. It is the main port in Bali Province and ranks beside Muara Baru (Jakarta), Pelabuhan Ratu (West Java) and Cilacap (Central Java). This research aim to identified length-weight relationship, and proportion of proper catch size of bigeye tuna. Herein, bigeye tuna (Thunnus obesus) was identified visually and then assessed. The first identifier is the large size of the eye. The growth pattern of big eye tuna (Thunnus obesus) landed in Benoa Fishing Portis is isometric, where the length increase is equal to weight gain (isometric positive). The length distribution of big eye tuna was in range of 81-170 cm FL (334 fishes are obtained), and the distribution of weights varied in size from 11-95 kg, with the most common catch size being in the range of 16-20 kg (95 fishes). Of note, 60% of the fish had not reached the proper catch size.

Opis:
In the paper, the concept of non-local line method is presented and used for determining the effective length for notched elements. Experimental tests and calculations were performed for 40 HM-T (42CrMo4+QT) steel made specimens of two types, i.e. smooth specimens, and notched specimens with notch radius equal to 0.2 mm, 0.5 mm, 0.8 mm, and 1 mm. The performed FEM calculations took into account the multi-linear hardening model and cyclic material properties. The concept of the presented non-local line method bases on finding the position of critical plane and determining the effective length, meant as the fracture process zone. During numerical stress gradient simulations, also the weight function was implemented. It was observed that the effective length increases as the load increases.

Opis:
Birth length is one of a factor of stunting in toddler. Maternal nutritional status have an association with growth and development of fetus which is represented by birth size. The objective of this research is to find the association of maternal anthropometry; as a representation of maternal nutritional status before and during pregnancy; with birth length in Kabupaten Garut, West Java, Indonesia. This descriptive analytic research was done by cross sectional design, using independent t-test and multiple linear regression as statistical analysis. Results showed that mean birth length is 48.72 ±1.39 cm. There is significant association between maternal pre-pregnancy weight and infant sex with birth length (p<0.05). Pre-pregnancy weight is a dominant factor of birth length (p<0.001). This result showed that maternal pre-pregnancy nutritional status is very important for fetal growth. Nutrition and health programs and education is needed, not only during pregnancy, but also before pregnancy; with teenager and women in reproductive age as main a target.

Opis:
This study aims to compare the morphometric characteristics of Nerita albicilla and Patella nigra and to determine the allometric relationships between the shell weight, shell length, fresh weight, dry weight, tissue weight and shell weight. A total of 200 of Nerita albicilla and Patella nigra were collected along the coasts of Zamboanga City Bay, Western Mindanao, Philippines. Nerita albicilla has the highest mean ± SD in width (1.59 ± 0.19 mm), fresh weight (2.59 ± 0.15 g), tissue weight (1.26 ± 0.83 g), dry weight (2.38 ± 0.55 g) and shell weight (2.19 ± 0.11 g). The fresh weight of Nerita albicilla was strongly related with the shell length. The shell width of Patella nigra was slightly correlated with shell weight. There was slight correlation between the shell width and shell weight and these can be attributed to the developmental, environmental and abiotic factors that highly contribute to the morphology of the gastropods. The calcium carbonate content suspended in the environment has major effect in the shell composition and is directly related with the shell weight. Nutrition is also a major contributory factor in the weight of the shells.

In this study, the total mercury concentration was determined in the muscles, liver and gills of six fish species (rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss Walb., carp Cyprinus carpio L., bream Abramis brama L., perch Perca fluviatilis L., ide Leuciscus idus L. and flounder Platichthys flesus L.). The fish were acquired from October to November 2012. Mercury was analyzed by atomic absorption spectrometry using thermal decomposition, compounds of mercury and amalgamation. The mercury content in fish organs reached 0.006-0.168 (in mg kgˉ¹ wet weight) in muscles, 0.001-0.027 in gills and 0.003-0.045 in the liver. The muscles of perch and ide had significantly more Hg compared to the other fish’s muscles (P≤0.05). The liver and gills of perch, ide and flounder contained more Hg than the same tissues of the other fish (P≤0.05). Generally, the highest Hg content was determined in muscles (except rainbow trout) (P≤0.05), whereas the lowest Hg content was found in gills (except perch) (P≤0.05). The content of Hg in gills of perch did not differ from the one in the liver (P>0.05). There was a positive correlation between the weight or length of a fish and the Hg concentration in its tissues, except for the length and Hg in the gills of carp. However, a statistically significant positive correlation between the body weight and the Hg levels in fish appeared only in the case of the organs of ide (P≤0.004) and muscles of carp (P≤0.038). The correlation between the factor condition and the content of Hg, albeit positive (0.106 < r < 0.811) except for the organs of flounder, was not statistically significant (P>0.05).

This article aims to show how the weight and length of newborn babies depend on gestational age and mother's age. The study focused on the babies born in 2011-2012 in a hospital in Krosno (the Podkarpackie Voivodeship). Only live born children, born between the 38th and 42nd weeks of pregnancy, and with birth weight over 2500 g were taken into account. The results obtained allow stating that boys are on average heavier and longer than girls. The duration of pregnancy between the 38th and 42nd weeks is associated with an increase of birth weight and length of the body in the subsequent weeks of gestational age. In the case of boys, birth body weight and body length increase with mother's age.
