Light sources and luminaires made in the LED technology are nowadays widely used in industry and at home. The use of these devices affects the operation of the power grid and energy efficiency. To estimate this impact, it is important to know the electrical parameters of light sources and luminaires, especially with the possibility of dimming. The article presents the results of measurements of electrical parameters as well as luminous flux of dimmable LED luminaires as a function of dimming and RMS supply voltage. On the basis of the performed measurements, a model of LED luminaire was developed for prediction of electrical parameters at set dimming values and RMS values of the supply voltage. The developed model of LED luminaire has 2 inputs and 26 outputs. This model is made based on 26 single models of electrical parameters, whose input signals are supply and control voltages. The linear regression method was used to develop the models. An example of the application of the developed model for the prediction of electrical parameters simulating the operation of an LED luminaire in an environment most similar to real working conditions is also presented.

The application of solid-state light sources in luminaires creates a new quality in illumination design works. In a confrontation with a commonly used but relatively unattractive flood method, the use of small-size luminaires allows one to present an illuminated architectural object in a more attractive way in the evening and at night. In this case, it is possible to apply the principles of illumination described in the literature, especially the principle of height amplification and the principle of depth amplification. The conceptual work of illumination with the use of a large number of small-size luminaires does not require the use of supporting graphical tools, but the specification of actual lighting equipment using only polygonal samples in this case is not possible. The paper presents selected issues of the key stages of the completed work. Using specialized computer software, a geometric model of the architectural object has been developed, facade materials have been parameterized, models of small-size illuminating equipment have been selected and, finally, calculations of luminance distribution on illuminated surfaces have been carried out. As a result of computer work, luminance distributions and photorealistic visualizations of illuminations from defined main directions of observation were obtained. The Lubomirski Palace in Przemysl is an example of the architectural object indicated for detailed works.

The aim of this study was to determine the time-dependent effectiveness of photo-stimulation against bovine sperm cells using a multi-wavelength LED (Light Emitting Diode). Spermatological parameters were evaluated for viability, acrosome structure and motility. In addition, the effect of photo-stimulation on frozen-thawed sperm cells subjected to in vitro capacitation was evaluated in terms of changes in mitochondrial membrane potential. The study consisted of two separate experiments and a total of 32 sperm samples obtained from separate bulls were used. All sperm samples were obtained from Holstein bulls using an artificial vagina. Semen was diluted to a final concentration of 92 x 106 spermatozoa per ml in 0.25 ml straws. The sperm cells were frozen using the conventional method. Straws were kept in a 37°C water bath for 20 seconds and diluted 1:4 in phosphate buffered saline (PBS) to eliminate the potentially deleterious effect of glycerol, the main permeable cryoprotectant in the freezing medium for bull sperm. This dilution also helped in the evaluation of sperm quality parameters. In the first experiment, whereas the 15-10-15 showed no differences with the control, other treatments such as 10-10-10, 5-5-5, and 3-1-3 exhibited significantly higher percentages of viable spermatozoa at 24h. The results obtained for acrosome integrity were pretty much similar to those observed in the sperm viability assessment. In effect, while the treatment consisting of 15-10-15 had no positive effects, shorter treatments exerted a much more positive effect. The percentages of acrosome-intact spermatozoa in 2-1-2 and 1-1-1 were significantly higher than those obtained in the control. The significant differences in mitochondrial membrane potential were observed at 0, 2, 4 and 24h post-photo-stimulation in all treatments, except 15-10-15. The highest increase in the percentage of spermatozoa exhibiting high mitochondrial membrane potential was found in 10-10-10, 5-5-5 and 3-1-3 treatments. With regard to total and progressive motility, whereas 10-10-10 was the best regime, 5-5-5 and 3-1-3 treatments also had a positive effect. However, 15-10-15 appeared to have a stimulating effect upon progressive motility at 2h and 4h but later declined and showed no significant differences with regard to the control at 24h. In the second experiment, not immediately after thawing but after having been kept at room temperature for up to 24h, it was observed that there was no statistical difference in terms of viability, acrosome integrity and total/progressive motility between photostimulation and the control group. This indicates that photo- stimulation is less able to exert a beneficial effect when post-thawed sperm are not immediately stimulated. As a result it was determined that photo-stimulation at a pattern of 10-10-10, 5-5-5, 3-1-3 and, to a lesser extent 2-1-2, increases the resilience of frozen-thawed bull sperm when applied upon thawing.

In two successive pot experiments with lettuce cv. ‘Królowa Majowych’, conducted in a phytotron, this study investigated the effect of cool white fluorescent light (FRS) at a PPFD 200 ȝmol·m-2·s -1 and red-blue LED light at a PPFD of 200 and 800 ȝmol·m-2·s -1 on photosynthesis, yield, leaf area, SLA, and the content of photosynthetic pigments, total N and nitrates. Experimental plants were grown in sphagnum peat supplemented with full-strength Hoagland’s solution at the beginning of the experiment. 10 days after plants were pricked out, 4 experimental series were made which differed in the form of N supplied to the growing medium at a rate of 420 mg (2N): 1) Hoagland’s solution (control); 2) Hoagl + 2N-NO3; 3) Hoagl + 2N-NH4; 4) Hoagl + 2N-NH4/NO3. The obtained results showed that the lettuce leaf yield under FRS light was distinctly higher than under LED light at a PPFD of 200, and in particular at 800 ȝmol·m-2·s -1. Besides, the leaves grown under FRS light showed a significantly thinner leaf blade (SLA) and a lower content of photosynthetic pigments, total N and nitrates. The photosynthetic rate was higher under LED light relative to FRS light. Different nutrition of plants with N-NO3, N-NH4 and N-NH4/NO3 had a similar effect on the yield and analysed traits of lettuce leaves, regardless of the type of light and the level of irradiation with LED light. LED lamps seem to be a very promising light source for plants, but they require further research on how to adapt the spectral distribution of light to their requirements.
W dwu kolejnych doświadczeniach wazonowych prowadzonych w fitotronie z sałatą odm. Królowa Majowych badano wpływ zimno-białego światła fluorescencyjnego (FRS) przy PPFD 200 ȝmol·m-2·s -1 i światła LED o barwie czerwono-niebieskiej przy PPFD 200 i 800 ȝmol·m-2·s -1 na przebieg fotosyntezy, plon, powierzchnię liści, SLA, zawartość barwników asymilacyjnych, N-ogólnego i azotanów. Rośliny doświadczalne rosły w torfie wysokim zasilonym na początku doświadczenia pożywką Hoaglanda o pojedynczej koncentracji. Po 10 dniach od zapikowania roślin utworzono 4 serie doświadczalne różniące się formą N dodanego do podłoża w dawce 420 mg (2N): 1) pożywka Hoaglanda (kontrola), 2) Hoagl + 2N-NO3, 3) Hoagl + 2N-NH4, 4) Hoagl + 2N-NH4/NO3. Uzyskane wyniki wykazały, że plon liści sałaty przy świetle FRS był wyraźnie wyższy niż przy świetle LED o PPFD 200, a zwłaszcza 800 ȝmol·m-2·s -1. Liście spod światła FRS wykazywały istotnie cieńszą blaszkę liściową (SLA), niższą zawartość barwników, N- ogólnego i azotanów. Fotosynteza przebiegała intensywniej w świetle LED niż FRS. Zróżnicowane żywienie roślin N-NO3, N-NH4 i N-NH4/NO3 wywierało zbliżony wpływ na plonowanie i analizowane cechy liści niezależnie od rodzaju światła i poziomu napromienienia światłem LED. Lampy LED wydają się być obiecującym źródłem światła dla roślin, ale wymaga to jednak dalszych badań dotyczących dostosowania rozkładu spektralnego światła do ich wymagań.

In order to improve the physiology of plants, this research evaluated the effect of high-intensity LED light (red, blue and green) on the following variables: germination (PG), hypocotyl length (HL), fresh (FW) and dry (DW) weight, in three types of lettuce seed (White Boston, Romana and Black Simpson). Exposure times with colour light were 12, 6 and 3h, with a complement of time for treatments with 6 and 3h of white LED light. We used a completely randomised design with four replications of 30 seeds. Treatments with green and red light to 12h had increases above 90% in HL against the control for the three varieties. The blue light treatment (3h) increased 23% in FW White Boston variety and the red light (3h) increased 14% the DW variable in Roman variety, compared to the control. In this study, treatments with colour light presented results above the control; however, a treatment with a single type of light is not optimal to improve plant physiology. The physiological responses evaluated showed variation related to the genotype of seed and to the time of exposure to high-intensity LED light, so this type of light is a viable option for improving the physiology of plants.
W celu uzyskania poprawy fizjologii roślin, w badaniach dokonano oceny wpływu światła LED wysokiej intensywności (czerwone, niebieskie i zielone) na następujące zmienne: kiełkowanie (PG), długość hipokotylu (HL), świeżej (FW) i suchej (DW) masy nasion trzech odmian sałaty (White Boston, Romana i Black Simpson). Czasy naświetlania światłem barwnym wynosiły 12, 6 and 3 h, z uzupełniającym doświetlaniem wariantów z czasami 6 i 3 h białym światłem LED. Zastosowano kompletnie zrandomizowany układ doświadczenia, w czterech powtórzeniach po 30 nasion. Warianty ze światłem zielonym i czerwonym oraz czasami naświetlania do 12 h wykazały ponad 90% wzrost HL w stosunku do kontroli dla trzech odmian. W wariancie ze światłem niebieskim (3 h) uzyskano 23% wzrost parametru FW u odmiany White Boston, a w wariancie ze światłem czerwonym (3 h) 14% wzrost zmiennej DW u odmiany Roman, w porównaniu do kontroli. W badaniach zastosowanie naświetlania światłem barwnym dało lepsze wyniki niż w przypadku kontroli, jednak naświetlanie jednym rodzajem światła nie jest optymalne dla uzyskania poprawy fizjologii roślin. Oceniane reakcje fizjologiczne zmieniały się w zależności od genotypu nasion i czasu naświetlania światłem LED wysokiej intensywności, tak więc zastosowanie tego typu światła stanowi możliwą opcję w poprawie fizjologii roślin.

The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of HPS and LED assimilation lighting and LED interlighting on the yielding and as cucumber fruit quality in autumn cultivation cycle. The possibilities of increasing the density of plants due to the use of LED technology were also assessed. The study was conducted in three compartments: I with HPS top light only; II with top light HPS + 2 line LED interlight, III with 100% LED, top LED + 2 line LED interlight. Light level was in every compartment kept at the level of ~320 µmol m–2 s–1. PAR. The number and weight of cucumber fruits were investigated. The harvest was carried out every day. To assess the harvest quality for the plants grown in the two terms fruits were then examined for the chemical quality attributes of cucumber fruit, such as the content of total soluble solids (TSS), total sugars (TS), ascorbic acid and nitrate (NO3) P, K and Ca. Another part of fruits was subjected to sensory analysis performed with the scaling method. The cucumber grown in the autumn growing cycle gave higher yield and the quality of fruits produced appeared more balanced for the plants lighted with HPS+LED or 100% LED as compared to the traditional, overhead HPS lighting. The above, together with the results from the rate of buds’ abortion assessment seem to legitimate the increase in the cucumber crop density when applying LED lighting.

Efficient Light-emitting-diode (LED) constructed of CdSe/Si CdSe nano particles were synthesized through thermal evaporation method using tube furnace and Ar as carrier gas. The synthesized nanoparticles were subjected to structural, optical, morphological, and electrical investigation. The nanoparticles structural properties studied by X-Ray diffraction, confirm the formation of hexagonal structure of CdSe (NPs). The preferred growth direction toward (100) orientation. Crystallite size was calculated by Scherrer’s equation. The surface morphology formation studied by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and average grain size also has been calculated. FESEM images revel sheets and tetra pods constructed of nano particles with average size 15-40 nm. Ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) absorption spectrum showed the absorption peak of CdSe at 350 nm. PL measurements show the emission peaks at 641 and 678 nm. The results of (I-V) measurements show the large ratio between the darkness and light state, which shows the correct behavior of LEDs. The ideality factor was estimated at the optimum conditions and it has been found (1.18).

Two inoculums: Effective Microorganisms (EM) specimen available on the market and microbiological BAF1 inoculum, were applied in the experiment. The plants were cultivated in the growth chamber equipped with shelves with fluorescent or LED lamps. The highest number of inflorescences was under the influence of white color of light emitted by fluorescent lamps and blue color of light emitted by LED lamps, especially after application of BAF1 inoculum. Irrespective of microbiological inoculum, no significant effect of the color of light and type of lamps on such traits as height of leaves layer, number of leaves, greening index of leaves (SPAD) and length of inflorescences, was found. The white color light emitted by fluorescent lamps stimulated actinobacteria multiplication, especially after EM application. Regardless of the inoculum application, it was the blue color light emitted by LED lamps that stimulated the multiplication of moldy fungi. After the use of fluorescent lamps, the increase in dehydrogenase activity was observed, especially after the application of BAF1 inoculum. The activity of acid phosphatase was stimulated by blue and white+blue light emitted by LED lamps. The increase in the activity of urease was observed under fluorescent lamps emitting the green, blue and white color of light, after the application of EM.

The problem of energy saving resources is now very urgent. Reducing the lighting electricity consumption through the introduction of advanced technologies is one of the most effective ways. The main method - the replacement of incandescent lamps with LED lamps, since the light output of the latter is 5-8 times higher. However, LED bulbs are only becoming widespread, as most products entering the Ukrainian market are of low quality and of high cost. Also, the frequent phenomenon is the submission by producers of false information about the characteristics of the lamps. There fore, we decided to experiment with the light bulbs available in the market of the western Ukraine. Many people think about changing the traditional incandescent lamp-lamp to some thing more perfect, since the prices for electricity are constantly growing, because their efficiency is very low and is only 5%. Among alternative way so flighting, halogen lamps are one of the options.

Opis:
The article describes test results that provided the ground to define and evaluate basic photometric, colorimetric and electric parameters of selected, widely available light sources, which are equivalent to a traditional incandescent 60-Watt light bulb. Overall, one halogen light bulb, three compact fluorescent lamps and eleven LED light sources were tested. In general, it was concluded that in most cases (branded products, in particular) the measured and calculated parameters differ from the values declared by manufacturers only to a small degree. LED sources prove to be the most beneficial substitute for traditional light bulbs, considering both their operational parameters and their price, which is comparable with the price of compact fluorescent lamps or, in some instances, even lower.
W artykule opisano wyniki badań, na podstawie których wyznaczono i oceniono podstawowe parametry fotometryczne, kolorymetryczne i elektryczne wybranych, ogólnodostępnych, źródeł światła, które były zamiennikami tradycyjnej żarówki o mocy 60 W. Zbadano jedną żarówkę halogenową, trzy świetlówki kompaktowe oraz jedenaście źródeł LED. Generalnie stwierdzono, ze w większości przypadków, zwłaszcza źródeł markowych producentów, parametry zmierzone i obliczone w niewielkim stopniu różnią się do deklarowanych przez producentów. Najkorzystniejszym zamiennikiem żarówek tradycyjnych są źródła LED, zarówno ze względu na swoje parametry użytkowe jak i cenę, porównywalną z ceną świetlówek kompaktowych, a w niektórych przypadkach nawet niższą.

Opis:
The article presents a method of evaluating irradiance, spectral irradiance, and spectral radiance, for purposes of determining risk groups of sources of light. The description of the method of measurement of radiance incorporates standard and alternative methods. Measurement methods were developed on the basis of general requirements and diagrams incorporated in the standard PN-EN 62471: 2010. The paper classifies risk groups of sources of light in terms of photobiological hazards and exposure limits when skin is at risk of being damaged by visible and infrared radiation. Threshold values of emissions for the continuous sources of radiation studied are presented. The article describes environmental conditions under which the measurements are to be taken, and requirements applicable to the process of light source aging. In addition, technical assumptions are presented, and the design of the test stand for measuring optical radiation parameters is described.

In this article we consider the questions of studying the characteristics of modern light sources on the example of LED lamps (LED). The problem of energy savings gained weighty significance in recent years, particularly in the light. In many developed countries as a way to reduce power consumption the replacement of incandescent lamps to LED is considered. LED are advanced energy efficient lamps, but much of the lamps that are coming on the inner market of Ukraine do not correspond to the declared lighting and electrical parameters. That is why we investigated LED lamps of such brands as «AUKES», «OK», «Iskra», «Lemanso» if they are in accordance with lighting and electrical parameters. The results of the study indicate that among the investigated parties of lamps value for active power of all the producing capacity does not meet the stated on the package. On the basis of experiments we also determined the dependence of illuminance E, Lx of voltage U, V. On the basis of this study we can say that most of LED lamps when changing the voltage in the range of 180 -240 V LED illumination is proportional to approximately 1% ( ± 0,2%) with a change in voltage at 1%. As we have seen from the research the alleged power LED lamps does not match the experimental data, in some cases more than 30% - LED (AUKES). A major drawback of LED, that enter the market in Ukraine is a low power factor, which varies between 0,51-0,63 further reduces technical and economic parameters of power supply and increases electric gates.

The development of technology and design of light management systems remains dynamic. Among all the benefits offered by these systems, the most valuable might definitely be the possibility of saving energy consumption. Knowing the value of energy savings is the key factor that users need to know before deciding to use a lighting management system (the type of light management system). For this purpose, it is useful to simulate the operation of the lighting control system, for example in the DIALux program. Such simulation helps evaluate potential savings in electricity consumption using the proposed lighting control system. In the DIALux program, it is possible to change the luminous flux value of luminaires. In such a case, it becomes possible to semi-simulate the light management system’s operation as we don’t receive actual information on reducing installed power of the lighting system during reduction of the luminous flux value of luminaires. This article shows what type of technical data are important to use for the DIALux program to properly and accurately simulate light management systems and to receive accurate data on energy saving. It also presents the results of photometrical and electric parameter measurements (Φ – luminous flux, P – power, PF – power factor, THDi – total harmonic distortion of current). The article discusses the power control characteristics obtained on the basis of these measurements and explores the source of differences between simulation of energy saving calculations and real measured energy savings. An existing lighting control system installed in an office reception area was used to compare calculations with the real value of energy consumption reduction. The impact of electronic power and control systems on electrical network parameters is also an important problem mentioned in this article. It also explores the effect of power regulation of LED luminaires and LED modules on the value of the power factor and total harmonic distortion (current) value (THDi).
