Opis:
This work presents very simple and efficient filtering techniques to improve the accuracy of the localization procedure based on gradient increments. The procedure can be successfully used to localize a location of leakage that occurred during steady-state pipeline conditions. It also shows possibilities of using the procedure to localize a leak point related to the occurrence of a leak in transient state. The effectiveness of the filtering techniques has been proven by the results of localization errors in function of time response. They relate to the use of real measured pressure signals obtained for the experiments with simulated small leaks between 0.2–0.8% of nominal flow rate. The experiments were carried out on the pilot pipeline described earlier.

Opis:
This work presents the method of leaks detection in recorded sequence of infrared images. Infrared field measurements were taken on small experimental embankment during flood process simulation. The leak processes took place thru initially dry facility. Getting wet areas were visible in infrared images as lower temperatures part of embankment on its air side. Image processing methods allowed to localize the leak in thermal images, despite the impact of external factors on the measurement and differences in objects emissivity in the observed scene.

Opis:
Industrial pipelines are used as a low-cost method of transport of various types of substances. In the last decades the number of transmission and distribution pipelines increased considerably, leading to an increased number of failures and rising the need for better and more accurate non-destructive methods of their detection and prevention. Leakage in pipeline networks causes a loss of valuable resources in the form of oil and gas. Repairing the infrastructure requires significant additional financial resources. Therefore, any damage to the pipeline network must be detected and repaired as soon as possible. Indirect methods for leak detection and localization uncover the presents of leaks from outside the pipeline by visual observation or by using appropriate equipment. Pipelines are often underground installations or run for many kilometers in areas where there are no roads, and access is extremely difficult or impossible. The underground occurrence of pipelines makes regular inspection difficult. It is also not possible to examine all pipeline sections simultaneously. Pipeline preventive maintenance or replacement program should be conducted based on detailed assessment of its technical and environmental conditions. Thus, safe and non-destructive techniques are needed, which would allow for pipeline periodical inspection without disturbing their operation.

The paper presents an analysis of ecological aspects of oil management in the Baltic Sea fishing fleet based on studies held as part of the project Operational Programme “Sustainable Development of the Fisheries Sector and Coastal Fishing Areas 2007–2013”. There have been proposed algorithms to the preliminary estimation of oils consumption in the fishing vessel fleet, the amount of harmful substances emitted into the atmosphere, the amount of used oils reaching the boat bilges, the quantity of hydraulic used on fishing craft.

Opis:
The low-pressure heat treatment of metals enables the continuous improvement of the mechanical and plastic properties of products, such as hardness, abrasion resistance, etc. A significant problem related to the operation of vacuum furnaces for heat treatment is that they become unsealed during operation, resulting from the degradation of seals or the thermal expansion of the construction materials. Therefore, research was undertaken to develop a prediction model for detecting leaks in vacuum furnaces, the use of which will reduce the risk of degradation in the charge being processed. Unique experimental studies were carried out to detect leakages in a vacuum pit furnace, simulated using the ENV 116 reference slot. As a consequence, a prediction model for the detection of leaks in vacuum furnaces- which are used in the heat treatment of metals- was designed, using an artificial neural network. (93% for MLP 15-10-1) was developed. The model was implemented in a predictive maintenance system, in a real production company, as an element in the monitoring of the operation of vacuum furnaces.

Opis:
Currently, laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy is one of bariatric surgeries most commonly performed in the world. The most frequent complications of surgeries of this type, with the highest mortality rate, include bleeding into the GI tract and peritoneal cavity, and sleeve staple line leaks. These severe complications prolong the hospital stay, and often are a cause of patient’s death. While in a case of bleeding the procedure appears to be obvious, so far no uniform and standard guidelines have been established for the group of patients with staple line leaks. The aim of the study was to report results of treatment for staple line leaks following laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy with a laparoscopic procedure and simultaneous endoscopic insertion of a self-expandable stent. Material and methods. 152 laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomies were performed from April 2009 to December 2014. The BMI median was 46.9, and the age median was 42 years. Staple line leaks developed in 3 out of 152 people (1.97%). All patients who developed this complication were included in the study. The treatment involved laparoscopic revision surgery with simultaneous endoscopic insertion of a self-expandable stent (Boston Scientific, Wallflex Easophageal Stent, 150×23 mm) into the gastric stump during gastroscopy. Results. Leaks following laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy were diagnosed on day 5 after the procedure, on average. Intervention consisting of laparoscopy and endoscopic insertion of a self-expandable stent was initiated within 14 hours of diagnosing the leak, on average. The mean time for which the stent was kept was 5 weeks (4–6 weeks). Stenting proved to be fully effective in all patients, where after discharging home, a cutaneous fistula, periodically (every 2-3 weeks) discharging several millilitres of matter, persisted in one patient. The mean time for the leak healing in 2 patients, in whom the described method was successful in treatment of this complication, was 37 days. No patient died in the perioperative or follow-up period. Conclusions. The proposed method for treatment of staple line leaks following laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy by combined laparoscopic rinsing and draining of the peritoneal cavity and endoscopic insertion of a self-expandable stent is an interesting and worth recommending method for treatment of this complication.

ATF fluid flow rate model
Opis:
The article presents the working conditions and the functions of the ATF fluid in an automatic transmission. It was noted that the correct operation of the automatic transmission is heavily influenced by the quality of the ATF fluid, which operates in disadvantageous conditions of oxidising environment, is subject to contamination and undergoes intense shearing, thus changing its physical and chemical properties during use. The analysis included the disadvantageous, from the point of view of loss of fluid pressure in the automatic transmission’s hydraulic system, phenomenon of the fluid’s flow through fractures (clearances) of the hydraulic precise pairs “called the rate of flow through internal leaks” or an “internal leak”. The model of the rate of flow through internal leaks was proposed to determine the impact of the precise pairs’ wear and the hydraulic fluid’s properties on the aggregated leaks in the hydraulic system controller of the automatic transmission. The modelling utilised the dependency between the rate of flow through internal leaks of the hydraulic precise pair and the coaxial circular fracture. The model’s assumptions were formulated. The values of clearances of the electrohydraulic controller’s precise pairs were determined during the measurements of the actual structure – based on the automatic transmission’s mileage. The measurements featured relevant diameters of pushers and sliders, as well as internal diameters of cylindrical openings of manifold sliders and hydraulic suppressors. Variant model testing was conducted with various degrees of the fluid’s wear and temperature (viscosity and density) for conditions of driving with transmission “1” and “2”.
