The purpose of the paper is to present the tax wedge observed in Poland and its structure for variousmodels of employment, as well as to find out which of these models is burdened with the highest non-wage expenses. The study uses the descriptive method, statistical data analysis, and the author’s own calculations. OECD statistical data and legal regulations concerning labor taxation in Poland are used as source material. The research made it possible to draw the conclusion that an employment contract is the least beneficial form of employment in terms of the non-wage expenses that the tax wedge in Poland comprises. The diversity of labor taxation depending on the form of employment may have a negative effect on the labor market. It prompts many people to choose self-employment or work on the basis of civil-law contracts. The research conducted for the needs of this paper contributes to the body of knowledge on tax and para-tax burdens on labor in Poland, and the conclusions can provide a basis for a debate on necessary changes in Polish legislation regarding taxation of labor so that it becomes more conducive to jobs creation and legal employment

The aim of this research was to identify the determinants of the employment protection legislation reforms in the global perspective. The study was based on the Labor Freedom index published by the Heritage Foundation, which allowed to include 179 countries in the research that were observed in the period 2003–2013. The conducted study has indicated that changes in GDP and the level of employment in industry may induce the introduction of labor reforms. The changes in the labor law also occurred to be correlated with the number of the nearly excluded from the labor market (the long-term unemployed and youth not in education, employment or training) and also with changes in the government expenditure. However, all these factors may lead to substantially various reform programs in particular countries due to the heterogeneous political pressure of the labor market interest groups and different governmental determination in introduction of the reforms.

Objective: In this article we attempt to shed light on the changing attitudes American workers may have, specifically authoritarian personality characteristics, by reviewing the results obtained from our survey of 74 retired auto workers. Research Design & Methods: Part of our survey utilizes the Zakrisson short version of the Right-Wing Authoritarian scale and our interests are to provide any differences found between men and women. Also, we seek to test for the presence of authoritarianism as one aspect to understand the appeal of right-wing politics among the white working class. Findings: Our findings indicate that men and women are each no more or less likely to develop authoritarian personality characteristics. The differences by gender that we found in our case-study mirror the literature over the last several decades since empirical research began in 1950 – ambivalence. Implications/Recommendations: As a discontented citizenry searches for answers, by leaning more politically right or left will gender differences widen or converge due to the issues. Contribution/Value Added: Given the current social and economic climate in the United States we find this research study to be both timely and important. A conservative or liberal orientation by American workers may have important contributions for the direction the US takes not only on pressing economic and social issues at home but abroad as well.

Labor market activity may have an effect on global economy competitiveness. This issue has been described as “labor market efficiency” (LME), which is a constituent of The Global Competitiveness Index published by The World Economic Forum (WEF). The article’s purpose is to clarify the phenomenon of LME and explain the mechanisms which help the constituents affect economy competitiveness. The structure of LME points at the meaning of labor market regime, especially after considering the fact that European Union countries operate within vari ous models of regime. The analysis of the LME diversity may help determine what type of labor market regimes are most efficient in enhancing economy competitiveness.

Research background: Various and complicated reasons for belonging to the NEET category (not in education, employment or training), resulting largely from young people's personal and family circumstances, cause that the activation programmes undertaken by public employment services, both in the professional and educational sphere, prove inadequate. Despite the fact that labour market instruments dedicated to young people represent a wide range of possibilities for supporting them in combating professional and educational inactivity, the background of their problems requires new actions that should be undertaken by labour market institutions and their partners. Purpose of the article: Taking the above into consideration, the aim of this study is to identify the challenges faced by the public employment services and other labour market institutions in the area of activating youth experiencing the most difficult situation in the labour market. Methods: The article is based partly on the results of quantitative and qualitative research, conducted in the framework of the project implemented by the Provincial Labour Office in Bialystok Podlasie open to young people, financed by Operational Programme Knowledge Education Development (PO WER). Findings & Value added: The results of the study have led to the identification of necessary actions which should be undertaken by labour market institutions to support young people representing the NEET generation. These actions can be classified into different categories. They include preventing inclusion into the NEET group, developing the most effective solutions in the area of getting in touch with this group of young people and supporting them as well as creating a culture of cooperation for their benefit. The study has also revealed the need to carry out in-depth research of the NEET population.

Immigrants going to Almería (Spain) are mainly joining the intensive farming sector such as greenhouses, though nowadays they are present in other areas such as construction and restaurant industries as well as domestic service. Some immigrants in order to escape and overcome market segmentation run their own ethnic businesses in the county. The ruling hypothesis is that, once an immigrant is established as an autonomous worker in the labour market, a whole ethnic economy develops. Besides this is an alternative option for immigrants instead of going through the segregation and discrimination which are constant in other sectors. The same way, the importance of the reception environments in general through the integration process, and more specifically in the autonomous labour market is highlighted as well.

The article focuses on regional diversity of the Polish Labor Market from institutional perspective. The Polish Labor Market is geographically diverse in terms of unemployment and employment rates, and also in terms of economic development. At the end of 2013 the difference between the lowest and the highest unemployment rate in the Polish regions was 12.1% (Wielkopolska located in the West Poland has unemployment rate of 9.6% and Warmia - Mazury in the East has unemployment of 21.7%). The question arises whether this difference comes from the structural or institutional sources. The paper describe the character of Polish Labor Market, whereas in the second part, it traces the impact of institutional variables such as real wage, Kaitz index and Gender gap on the regional unemployment rate in 2002–2012 in Poland.

The article deals with the peculiarities of introduction of a labor compliance system as a system of measures for ensuring employer’s and other subjects’ of labor law compliance with current labor legislation and other labor regulations. Labor compliance serves as a menas of preventing labor rights violations. The labor compliance system, researched in this article, includes mechanisms of internal labor control (compulsory and voluntary). The article indicates the necessity of adopting a Law of Ukraine on labor compliance, which would provide the definition of labor compliance, state the purpose of introducing compliance control in a business organization, main tasks and the principles of functioning, the structure and composition of a compliance service at an external and internal level, the rights and obligations of comliance professionals, guarantees of their activities and the responsibility attached to their position. Expediency of introducing a compliance control department in organizations, enterprises and institutions is emphasized, with such department controling the subject at all levels, and also creating a position of a compliance specialist as a person acting in accordance with an established Compliance Program. Such measure will not only simplify the existence of organizations and enterprises, but will also significantly improve the quality of labor law. Therefore, it is believed that the theme of introducing labor compliance at enterprises and institutions is very relevant.

The objective of this research is to minimize product defects based on labor performance and prove the hypothesis on how labor performance affects the quality of a product through a scientific calculation using Overall Labor Effectiveness (OLE). The primary data is obtained by interviewing the supervisor and labor directly. For secondary data is obtained from the company, such as labor working time, machine scheduled downtime, total production, and defective products. The approach to extract the data is using OLE and the continued regression method. Furthermore, it proceeds to Six Sigma using the DMAIC approach since the results show a significant correlation. The result from Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) shows four of six potential failures caused by product defects are coming from labor. To prevent failure mode, it is recommended to have the regular machine checked by labor, check the temperature of the machine, and provide Standard Operating Procedures.

The purpose of the work was the evaluation of changes in the effectiveness of the use of labor in agriculture against a background of changes in the relation of production factors. The analysis is presented on a regional basis. The empirical material consisted of CSO statistical data from 2000-2016. The following diagnostic variables were used for analysis: (1) the value of gross agricultural output per one employed in agriculture, (2) technical work equipment – the gross value of fixed assets in agriculture per one employed in agriculture, (3) the number of people working in agriculture per 100 hectares of agricultural land (AL), (4) technical equipment of agricultural land – the gross value of fixed assets in agriculture per 1 hectare of AL. Based on a set of diagnostic features describing individual voivodships in Poland, their classification was performed using the cluster analysis of the Ward method. A decrease in the technical equipment of labor was recorded, and an increase in the technical equipment of agricultural land and the number of people working in agriculture per 100 hectares of AL. At the same time, these changes varied in individual groups of voivodships. Analysis of regional differentiation demonstrates that, in voivodships with much more favorable relations of production, labour efficiency was higher. In addition, in these voivodships, the average annual rate of changes in labor efficiency was also at a higher level. This may result in a growing disparity in the level of farming efficiency.
Celem pracy jest ocena zmian efektywności wykorzystania czynnika pracy w rolnictwie na tle zmian relacji czynników produkcji. Analizę przedstawiono w ujęciu regionalnym. Materiał empiryczny stanowiły dane statystyczne GUS za lata 2000-2016. Do analizy wykorzystano następujące zmienne diagnostyczne: (1) wartość produkcji globalnej w rolnictwie w przeliczeniu na jednego zatrudnionego w rolnictwie, (2) techniczne uzbrojenie pracy, (3) liczbę osób pracujących w rolnictwie na 100 ha użytków rolnych (UR), (4) techniczne uzbrojenie ziemi. Na podstawie zestawu cech diagnostycznych opisujących poszczególne województwa w Polsce przeprowadzono ich klasyfikację z wykorzystaniem analizy skupień metodą Warda. W analizowanym okresie zanotowano spadek technicznego uzbrojenia pracy oraz wzrost technicznego uzbrojenia ziemi i liczby osób pracujących w rolnictwie na 100 ha UR. Zmiany te były zróżnicowane w poszczególnych grupach województw. Analiza zróżnicowania regionalnego wykazała, że w województwach o zdecydowanie korzystniejszych relacjach czynników produkcji efektywność pracy była wyższa. Ponadto w województwach tych średnioroczna stopa zmian efektywności pracy też kształtowała się na wyższym poziomie. Skutkować to może narastaniem dysproporcji w poziomie efektywności gospodarowania w rolnictwie.

Differentiation of the level of labor productivity has a direct impact not only on the level of wages, but also on the formation of labor market. The growth of labor productivity, mechanization, automation and digitalization of economy contribute to the release of part of labor resources. On the other hand, motivation of workers in various sectors of economy contributes to the outflow of people to more paid and prestigious industries. The study of trends in motivation of workers, the redistribution of labor resources between sectors of economy in connection with a significant differentiation of productivity and wages is of high importance. The purpose of this research is to study the trends and structure of the labor market in Russian Federation in conjunction with productivity and wages, as well as to identify factors affecting the growth of labor productivity. The research methodology includes the analysis of secondary data of official statistics for the period from 1995 to 2017, institutional analysis, binary regression models, as well as the results of own research. It was established that labor market has changed. The number of employed labor resources increased in financial activity, public administration, wholesale and retail trade, hotels and restaurants, health care, education, construction and mining. At the same time, the number of people employed fell in research and development, real estate operations, manufacturing industries, agriculture, the provision of other services (municipal, social and personal), transport and communications.
Zróżnicowanie poziomu wydajności pracy ma bezpośredni wpływ nie tylko na poziom płac, ale także na kształtowanie rynku pracy. Wzrost wydajności pracy, mechanizacja, automatyzacja i cyfryzacja gospodarki przyczyniają się do uwolnienia części zasobów pracy. Z drugiej strony motywacja pracowników z różnych sektorów gospodarki przyczynia się do odpływu ludzi do bardziej płatnych i prestiżowych branż. Bardzo ważne jest badanie trendów w motywowaniu pracowników, redystrybucji zasobów pracy między sektorami gospodarki w związku ze znacznym zróżnicowaniem wydajności i płac. Celem tych badań jest badanie trendów i struktury rynku pracy w Federacji Rosyjskiej w połączeniu z produktywnością i płacami, a także identyfikacja czynników wpływających na wzrost wydajności pracy. Metodologia badań obejmuje analizę wtórnych danych z oficjalnych statystyk za okres 1995-2017, analiza instytucjonalna, modele regresji binarnej, a także wyniki własnych badań. Ustalono, że rynek pracy się zmienił. Wzrosła liczba zatrudnionych zasobów pracy w działalności finansowej, administracji publicznej, handlu hurtowym i detalicznym, hotelach i restauracjach, służbie zdrowia, edukacji, budownictwie i górnictwie. Jednocześnie zmniejszyła się liczba zatrudnionych osób w pracach badawczo-rozwojowych, nieruchomościach, przemyśle wytwórczym, rolnictwie, świadczeniu innych usług (komunalnych, społecznych i osobowych), transporcie i łączności.

Background. In midwifery, Hugo point pressure is one of several effective, non-pharmacological approaches to decreasing pain. Objectives. The main objective of this study was to investigate the effect of Hugo point on postpartum pain in multiparous women. Material and methods. This study was a randomized controlled trial conducted on 62 pregnant women in two groups: 31 women in the case-study (Hugo point pressure) and 31 women in the control-group (non-Hugo point pressure) groups. The block random sampling method was used. Data were collected by way of a questionnaire requesting information of delivery process, as well as a Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) for measuring pain intensity. In the postpartum ward and at least 2–24 hrs after the delivery, pain intensity and duration was measured before and 2, 4, 6 and 8 hours after intervention. Data was analyzed through independent t-test and RMANOWA tests. Results. The intensity of pain for both groups in the first two hours after delivery was significant (p = 0.005), but 4, 6 and 8 hours post- -delivery, despite a pain reduction in the intervention group more than in the control group, the difference was not significant. Moreover, no significant difference was observed between the two groups at 2, 4, 6 and 8 hours after delivery in terms of pain duration. Via the chi-square test, the frequency of painkiller use showed no significant difference statistically between the two groups. Conclusions. Hugo point pressure is a simple and cost-effective, harmless and easily applicable analgesic method for after-pain reduction – especially in the early hours of the postpartum period.

In the article, the author analyzes various aspects of personal resources of Polish labor emigrants in European Union countries.
Coraz częściej ludzie planują i realizują swoją karierę poza granicami własnego kraju. Mimo że emigracja zarobkowa nie jest już w takim stopniu, jak w przeszłości, naznaczona ryzykiem, to jednak wymaga istotnych zmian w życiu oraz posiadania określonych zasobów osobistych gwarantujących pomyślną realizację podjętych planów. Opracowanie stanowi przegląd badań dotyczących różnych aspektów zasobów osobistych polskich emigrantów zarobkowych do krajów Unii Europejskiej.

According to various sources, after 2014 there was a clear decline in GDP and the level of income in Ukraine, which, taking into account the interdependence between economic growth and the condition of the labor market, translated into significant difficulties in the structure of resources and the activity of the local workforce. The source of these difficulties turned out to be not only the price factor, but also non-price factors such as poor protection of employee rights, lack of social protection and social security, as well as payment gridlocks on the employer-employee line. This forced many Ukrainians to sometimes make dramatic decisions about economic emigration, mainly to European Union countries, including Poland. According to various estimates, there are currently 7 to 9 million Ukrainian citizens working abroad who contribute to the development of the economies of other countries. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian labor market is in a very difficult situation. Based on the analysis of official statistical data, an attempt was made to characterize the Ukrainian labor market, its main determinants were outlined and Ukrainians’ attitudes towards changes on the domestic labor market were determined. The research used critical literature analysis, statistical description methods, spatial analysis methods and case study method. Based on the conducted analyzes, it was shown that in the years 2010–2017 the Ukrainian labor market was struggling with a number of unfavorable phenomena, which was significantly aggravated by the political crisis at the turn of 2013 and 2014.

Objectives: The present study was designed to examine the links between empathy, emotional labor (both surface and deep acting), and emotional exhaustion as well as determine if emotional labor mediates the relationship between empathy and emotional exhaustion in teachers. It was assumed that emotional labor can take two opposite directions (positive mood induction and negative mood induction). Thus, the additional aim of the study was to analyze the mediating role of mood regulation strategies in the relationship between empathy and emotional exhaustion. Materials and Methods: A sample of 168 teachers from Łódź and its surroundings completed a set of questionnaires: Emotional Labor Scale; Mood Regulation Scales, Maslach Burnout Inventory, and Empathic Sensitivity Scale. Results: The results provided mixed support for the hypotheses indicating that both types of emotional labor, negative mood induction and emotional exhaustion were positively intercorrelated. Moreover, deep acting was a significant mediator in the relationship between empathy and emotional exhaustion. The analyzed link was also mediated by negative mood induction, whereas positive mood induction did not emerge as a significant mediator. Conclusions: The study provided insight into the role of empathy and emotional labor in the development of teacher burnout. It also confirmed that deep acting and negative mood induction mediate the relationship between empathy and emotional exhaustion in teachers.
