Opis:
The aim of the research was to check the suitability of the Phytotoxkit test for quick assessment of usefulness of ashes from the combustion of sorghum and Jerusalem artichoke biomass as fertilizers in the cultivation of energy crops. Seeds of Sorghum bicolor L. were placed in the Phytotoxkit-plates, filled with Alonet Substrate KS (Latvia) and containing 0-100% of ash from burnt sorghum and Jerusalem artichoke plants. Based on daily measurements under greenhouse conditions, dynamics of seed germination, growth speed of shoots and roots, their fresh and dry biomass, index of chlorophyll content and parameters of gas exchange were evaluated. The results indicated that the modified Phytotoxkit biotest could be useful for quick assessment of ashes usefulness as fertilizers, it can be performed under greenhouse conditions regardless of the growing season and may be an alternative to laborious and long-term field trials. Biotest showed that the studied ashes, used in the proper dosages, improved seed germination, plant growth and biomass yield. These events were associated with increased index of chlorophyll content in leaves, net photosynthesis, stomatal conductivity, transpiration and proportionally decreased concentration of intercellular CO2. This indicate, that the studied ashes can be used as fertilizers in sorghum crops.

Opis:
The Jerusalem artichoke is a plant which has great potential as a crop food and forage, or as a raw material in alcohol industry. Energy requirement to produce ethanol from this crop is prepared for farm-size operation. It is one of the most efficient crops for ethanol production from a net energy viewpoint.
Do analizy energetycznej procesu zastosowano zintegrowany model produkcji etanolu w skali gorzelni rolniczej (rys. 1). Model uwzględnia ilości energii wydatkowane w trakcie uprawy bulwy (tab. 3) i w trakcie jej przerobu na etanol (rys. 2 i tab. 4). Z przeprowadzonego bilansu energetycznego wynika (tab. 5), że uzyskuje się znaczny zysk energetyczny, gdyż stosunek ilości energii uzyskiwanej do ilości energii włożonej wynosi ok. 3, 7.

Development of renewable energy can multiply the demand for agricultural raw materials used for energy purpos- es. Independent estimates indicate that biogas produced from agricultural substrates would be one of the major energy carri- ers. Therefore, the paper presents the results of the research on the assessment of yield and productivity of biogas from rye, triticale and Jerusalem artichoke cultivated on sandy soil at dif- ferent levels of nitrogen fertilization. The field experiment was conducted in 2008–2010 at the Experimental Station IUNG-PIB (N: 51°27′59.98′′ E: 21°39′44.28′′) in a randomized complete block design “split-plot”, in four replications. The results indicate that the largest biogas and methane yield from 1 kg of dry organic matter was characteristic for the silage from the first swath of Jerusalem artichoke and rye, while the smallest was found in the silage of the second swath of Jerusalem artichoke. The largest biogas and methane production from one hectare can be obtained from rye harvested at milky-wax maturity. In the next years the highest biogas and methane production was obtained from the cultivation of Jerusalem artichoke in two swaths. The lowest pro- duction of biogas and methane were obtained from the cultivation of triticale.

John Chrysostom (349–407) provides the most comprehensive commentary on the Pauline epistles from the patristic era. During his priestly mission in Antioch (386–397) and his episcopate in Constantinople (398–403), he wrote over 200 homiletic commentaries on the entire Pauline epistolary body of work. This research attempts to analyze how Chrysostom interprets Paul’s verses concerning the collection and uses them to organize and transform the ecclesial groups into communities of love, particularly paying attention to the poor. The study focuses on the works of John Chrysostom on Rom 15:25–29. Based on his interpretation, the status of debtors in the spiritual blessings is the main reason why the Romans had to be more earnest in almsgiving, imitating the Macedonians and the Achaeans who had helped the community in Jerusalem. He also encourages them to reform their lives, cutting off the superfluities, luxurious lifestyles, and bad attitudes in squandering money on other selfish needs. At the same time, he stirrers them up to meet their needs moderately, which meant using only the goods that are truly necessary for a healthy and dignified life so that they would always have something to share with the poor.

Opis:
This article is a part of the bigger work entitled The Ambivalence of Byzantism in Taras Shevchenko’s Writings. The aim of the article is studying the problem of perception and interpretation of the mytheme of Jerusalem in the works by Taras Shevchenko. The crosscultural, semiotic, hermeneutic and comparative analyses allow for discovering deep semantic levels of the “Jerusalem” loci in the works by T. Shevchenko, for clearing out its subtexts and for defining its poetic structure and the levels of the artistic interpretation. In the result of the analyses it has been found that the association “Kiev–Jerusalem” in the works by Shevchenko has its loci of various meanings, which have been formed in the course of a long trajectory within the historic space. The mytheme “Jerusalem” is realized primarily in its Biblical and genetic aspect. The contents of the “Jerusalem idea” proves Shevchenko’s solid knowledge of the Old Testament dogmas in the field of the Judaic history and culture. The resemblance of/between Kiev and Jerusalem is formed on the basis of [the] allegories, the poetical means aiming at the context reading with regard to the urgent social and historic reality. Introducing the mytheme “Jerusalem” into a discourse of fiction, T. Shevchenko accounts for actualization/transposition of its Biblical semantic field/range unto the social, political, cultural and spiritual needs of the epoch. The image of Kiev in Shevchenko’s works has strong sacred characteristics/connotations which indirectly correlate with Christian viewpoints. The importance of Kiev as the spiritual habitable globe is underlined by frequent recollections about numeruous temples, monasteries, saints, monks, icons, pilgrimage traditions, etc. The results of the research can be used for courses in the Ukrainian History of Literature and Theory, for text-books and training aids, for further comparative studies of Shevchenko’s works. The results of the study are addressed to philologists and researchers of the Ukrainian literature. The academic novelty of this article lies in the fact that the mytheme “Jerusalem” in Shevchenko’s works has for the first time become the object of individual research and that theoretic aspects and comparative typological levels of this problem have been elaborated.

Jerusalem artichoke (Helianthus tuberosus) and chicory (Cichorium intybus) are valuable pharmaceutical raw materials on account of their high content of inulin, a natural prebiotic. Inulin-rich plants are also increasingly employed in the formulation of cosmetic products. The paper presents the biological properties of aqueous and aqueous-ethanolic extracts of Jerusalem artichoke and chicory. The extracts have been found to have a high free radical scavenging ability, with the most beneficial antioxidant properties being observed for the aqueous-ethanolic extract of Jerusalem artichoke. Inulin isolated from both plant types is a safe and non-toxic raw material. Inulin added to model body wash gel formulations markedly reduces their potential to cause skin irritation and sensitization.

An increase in plant productivity and the limitation of environmental pollution through the use of natural fertilizers are becoming the most important issues in contemporary sustainable agriculture. Therefore, the purpose of the research was to demonstrate the effect of Jerusalem artichoke ash, used alone or together with biopreparations and biogas plant waste, on the growth and physiological activity of sorghum and to show their applicability as an alternative to chemical fertilization. The sorghum plants, cultivated in Central and North Poland, were fertilized with the YaraMila Complex, a chemical fertilizer (0, 150, 300 kg ha-1) and each concentration was supplemented with Jerusalem artichoke ash (0-4 t ha-1), applied separately or together with Apol-Humus (10 L ha-1), biogas plant waste (30 m3 ha-1) and Stymjod (5 L ha-1). Within each YaraMila Complex addition, the all ash doses (preferably 2-4 t ha-1), biopreparations and biogas plant waste significantly enhanced plant growth, biomass yield, chlorophyll content, gas exchange (net photosynthesis, transpiration, stomatal conductance, intercellular CO2 concentration), enzyme activity (acid and alkaline phosphorylase, RNase, dehydrogenase) and slightly enhanced the content of the measured elements in plants and their energy properties. The ash applied together with a lower than recommended amount of YaraMila Complex (0 or 150 kg ha-1) increased plant development slightly more than twice the dose of YaraMila Complex used alone (150 or 300 kg ha-1, respectively). This demonstrates that the studied ash can serve as a natural fertilizer and may halve the recommended chemical fertilizer doses.

Since the beginning of slavery blacks discovered in the Bible stories which provided not only narratives and language to delineate the difficulty of being a slave, but also hope for a better future in the afterlife. The Exodus was perceived as the Bible’s main argument that God denounced slavery and would come in a catastrophic event to judge those who mistreated blacks. This article is devoted to the exploration of the biblical figure of Exodus as a recurring trope in selected lyrics of slave spirituals and spirituals recorded by bluesmen. Scholars seem to agree that the Exodus is the migration narrative, but in this article I seek to demonstrate that it may also represent the theme of going on a spiritual journey to the other side in the hereafter or the end of time city the New Jerusalem.

The paper presents the effect of extrusion-cooking conditions (moisture content and screw speed) on the physical properties of extruded Jerusalem artichoke straw. A single screw extruder was used for straw processing. Shredded Jerusalem artichoke straw moistened to 30, 40, and 50% was subjected to an extrusion-cooking process at various screw speeds (70, 90, and 110 rpm). Selected physical properties and pasting profile were tested. Significant differences were observed depending on the moisture content of the samples and the various screw speed on their physical properties. Notably, increased moisture content lowered the specific mechanical energy, increased processing efficiency, water solubility, peak viscosity and breakdown. The maximum efficiency and the highest breakdown was observed for the sample with 50% moisture content processed at an extruder screw speed of 90 rpm. The sample obtained at 30% moisture and at 90 rpm was characterized by the lowest efficiency and hot paste viscosity, and the highest specific mechanical energy. The results showed that the extrusion-cooking process yielded desirable changes to the structure of the analysed lignocellulosic biomass.

Jerusalem, especially the Temple Mount (Moriah), has been sanctified by the three biggest monotheistic religions. By Judaism – the binding of Isaac (Old Testament), King David pronouncing Jerusalem the capital of the ancient country of Israelites, and two demolished temples. By Christianity – Christ prayed in the Second Temple, and was later crucified and buried in Jerusalem. The ruins of the Second Temple be-came the site where the Muslim Al-Aqsa Mosque was built. The contemporary conflict is marked by: the emergence of the State of Israel (1948) and the capturing of Jerusalem (1967), Russian influences exerted by the Orthodox Church and Oriental churches, the political impact of Jewish messianism combined with a mass support for evangelical fundamentalism as offered by the Republican Party in the US, the conflict between the West and Israel, focusing on Jerusalem as the tinderbox for “contemporary messiahs”.

Opis:
Did Hezekiah carry out religious reforms aimed at centralizing worship in Jerusalem? It is difficult to give an unequivocal answer to this question. The description of reforms is laconic and stereotypical (2 Kgs 18:4.22). The historical circumstances, however, seem to favor its recognition as historical. Also archaeological research, although not confirming unequivocally, does not allow to deny such a possibility either, even if many researchers believe that there was no massive influx of migrants from the north and that the population growth towards the end of 8th c. BCE was a natural demographic process. Texts devoted to the monarchy (1–2 Sam; 1–2 Kgs) and to the centralization of worship (Deut 12) fit better with the situation at the end of the 7th c. BCE (time of Josiah), both when we look at them from the point of view of literary criticism and from the perspective of political and social situation. However, the figure of Hezekiah could be considered by the authors of the 7th c. BCE as a precursor of the reforms of Josiah’s time due to the “historical” information about his destruction of the serpent cult of Nehushtan.

Earlier this year, President Donald Trump presented his Peace Plan for Israel and the Palestinians. The plan also dealt with the future boundaries of Jerusalem. Jerusalem is the only city ruled by a sovereign regime, the State of Israel, which declared Jerusalem as its Capital city and draw its boundary lines. Except for the US, the status and boundaries of Jerusalem are not accepted by any other international or national entity. Only the United States, which accepts Jerusalem as the capital city of Israel, agreed to accept its Israeli declared boundaries. Jerusalem’s status and boundaries stand at the core of the dispute between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, which wishes to restore the pre-1967 line. The city of Jerusalem was divided during the years 1948-1967 between Israel and Jordan. The Palestinian Authority thus calls for a separation of Jerusalem between two independent states. Today, Jerusalem has an urban boundary that serves partly as a separating line between Israel and the Palestinian Autonomy, but most countries do not accept the present boundaries, and its future permanent line and status are far from establishing. Jerusalem is a unique city. This article presents a brief history that should help understanding its uniqueness.

Opis:
Previous scholarship inadequately acknowledged the diverse ways in which Cyril of Jerusalem employed the breath-related vocabulary related to or derived from Gen 2:7. A systematic analysis of Cyril’s catechetical homilies revealed that in his rhetoric, this vocabulary was utilized in several distinct contexts. First, it was used to describe the creation of humans as living beings. Secondly, the vocabulary depicted a pre-Pentecost mediation of the Holy Spirit. Thirdly, the Pentecostal outpouring of the Spirit could be interpreted as another form of “breathing.” Fourthly, breath-related vocabulary was employed in reference to three ecclesiastical rites of initiation, indicating their pneumatological significance. This collective utilization of Biblical accounts of breathing, alongside depictions of post-Biblical ecclesiastical rites, formed a coherent narrative aimed at instructing catechetical audiences about the historical sequence of human creation. This narrative encompassed the divine vivification of the tangible body and postlapsarian revivification through the Holy Spirit. Simultaneously, it became evident that Cyril’s use of this vocabulary aligned with his overall allusionary approach to employing Scripture in catechesis.
