This article is a report on the development of an online assessment instrument, namely a test of English as a foreign language intended for the participants of the Youngster project in Poland. The project has been launched with a view to providing free English education for learners in rural areas. One of the requirements of the project is the provision of effective assessment procedures, regularly conducted at three different points in time — the beginning of the school year, the end of the first semester, and the end of the school year. The purpose of the study was therefore to develop an instrument which could serve both placement and progress functions within the project. This article describes the activities performed prior to the test’s operational administration, and focuses primarily on the development of multiple-choice items.

Opis:
In recent years the intensive efforts in developing and producing electronic devices have more and more critical inference in many areas of human activity. Engineering is one of the areas which have been also importantly affected. The paper deals with dependability namely reliability analysis procedure of a highly reliable item. The data on manufacturing and operating of a few hundred thousands pieces of electronic item are available and they are statistically a very important collection/set. However, concerning some items the manufacturing procedure was not checked and controlled accurately. The procedure described in the paper is based on the thorough data analysis aiming at the operating and manufacturing of these electronic elements. The results indicate some behaviour differences between correctly and incorrectly made elements. It was proved by the analysis that dependability and safety of these elements was affected to a certain degree. Although there is a quite big set of data the issue regarding the statistical comparability is very important.

Opis:
Latent class analysis has been widely used in the measurement models. Models based on latent variables have a wide range of applications in the presence of repeated ob-servations, longitudinal data, and multilevel data. In this paper we present and apply log-linear analysis as a method for the analysis of multi-way tables. We also present a latent variable model based on a variable that is not directly observed. The basic model postulates an underlying categorical latent variable; within any category of the latent variable the manifest or observed categorical variables are assumed independent of one another (axiom of conditional independence). In this paper we present the results of a survey research based on categorical data and the author`s questionnaire. We present the results of the latent class analysis in the classification of respondents into clusters characterized by similar attitudes and features in economic research. We also conduct a prior log-linear analysis for a multi-way contingency table. All the calculations are conducted in R.

Opis:
Item Response Theory (IRT) is an extension of the Classical Test Theory (CCT) and focuses on how specific test items function in assessing a construct. They are widely known in psychology, medicine, and marketing, as well as in social sciences. An item response model specifies a relationship between the observable examinee test performance and the unobservable traits or abilities assumed to underlie performance on the test. Within the broad framework of item response theory, many models can be operationalized because of the large number of choices available for the mathematical form of the item characteristic curves. In this paper we introduce several types of IRT models such as: the Rasch, and the Birnbaum model. We present the main assumptions for IRT analysis, estimation method, properties, and model selection methods. In this paper we present the application of IRT analysis for binary data with the use of the ltm package in R.

Opis:
Objectives The COVID-19 outbreak is an example of a crisis that triggered an increase in generalized anxiety disorder. The study aims to validate the Polish version of the Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-item scale (GAD-7) by Spitzer et al. among a non-clinical sample of employees and examine the invariance depending on the gender and age of working adults. Material and Methods For assessing factor structure of the Polish version of the GAD-7, the data were collected from a sample of 821 adults employed in 4 economic sectors (health care, education, IT, public administration) during the initial phase of the COVID-19 pandemic in Poland (April 10–May 24, 2020). Due to differences in the severity of GAD symptoms across gender and age groups, the measurement invariance in these groups was tested. Results The results of a series of confirmatory factor analyses confirmed the unidimensionality of the GAD-7. The values of the composite reliability index and Cronbach’s α showed that it is a reliable tool. The GAD levels demonstrated strong relationships with professional burnout, psychological distress, and psychological complaints. These relationships were stronger than the relationships between these factors and job satisfaction. Construct, metric and scalar invariance across gender and age groups were documented. Women experienced more severe symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder than men. Generalized anxiety disorder affected 28% of respondents. Conclusions This study contributes evidence of the validation of the GAD among employees and also confirms the invariance depending on gender and age. The Polish version of the GAD-7 has good psychometric properties in a group of professionals and can be recommended for research and to be used in an occupational medicine practice, especially during crisis periods associated with the risk of developing a generalized anxiety disorder.
