Studies were undertaken to evaluate by parasitological techniques the course of intestinal and muscular invasions in mice infected with Trichinella spiralis and treated with TFX-Thymomodulin (TFX-Th). Studies were conducted on 120 mice of BALB/c and SWISS strains, infected each with a mean invasive dose of 300 T. spiralis larvae. TFX-Th (Thymoorgan GmbH Pharmazie Co. KG, Vienenburg, Germany) was administered subcutaneously at 30 mg/kg body weight. Depending upon duration of TFX-Th administration and stages of intestinal and muscular invasions, three experiments were distinguished in the study. The results indicated that TFX-Th promoted eradication of larvae from muscles, whether administered at the early of the late stage of T. spiralis invasion.

Opis:
The research of the stereotyping of Muslims and its consequences in the context of the Slovak Republic is highly topical and necessary. The complexity of this research is influenced by the fact that in Slovakia we do not yet have a proven research tradition in this field and there is also a lack of empirical research that would deal with this issue. A so-called mixed research strategy consisting of a combination of qualitative and quantitative research was used for our research purposes. In the qualitative part, we used the method of group interviews, through which we identify the most important sources of information from which respondents learn the most about Islam and topics that reflect the most about Islam in the media. In the quantitative part, an evaluation of the media presentation of Islam is carried out by means of a questionnaire, which is carried out in a research group of 110 respondents. The aim is to obtain, describe and analyse the image of Islam in contemporary media; it is exclusively a research of the media-mediated experience of respondents with Islam. The interpretation of the research puts the findings into a broader context of the issue, presents the most significant examples and consequences of the stereotyping of Muslims in the media and suggests perspectives for the greater inclusion of Muslims despite their cultural or religious differences from the majority population. The research was conducted between the months of April and September 2019.

Opis:
Aim of the study: To evaluate the clinicopathologic factors of early International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) stage I–II endometrioid endometrial cancer in a single institution and to emphasize factors contributing to recurrence. Material and methods: We selected several clinicopathologic factors including age, height, body weight, body mass index, cancer antigen-125, FIGO tumor grade, myometrial invasion, lymphovascular space invasion, estrogen receptor/ progesterone receptor status, and adjuvant radiation therapy or systemic chemotherapy. Univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazard model and Kaplan–Meier estimates were used for analyzing all clinicopathologic factors related to the risk of disease recurrence. Results: The median age was 55.05 years, and the median follow-up time was 35 months. Eleven patients (11%) showed disease recurrence, 3 patients – distant, and 8 patients – local metastasis. In univariate analysis, tumor grade (P = 0.0045) and lymphovascular space invasion (P = 0.0374) were associated with disease recurrence. Multivariate analysis demonstrated an association between any type of recurrence and lymphovascular space invasion (hazard ratio, HR, 6.308; 95% confidence interval, CI 1.851–11.484). Conclusions: Our study showed that the presence of lymphovascular space invasion is an important factor for disease recurrence in early endometrial cancer. Therefore, adjuvant systemic chemotherapy may be considered in patients with early endometrial cancer with lymphovascular space invasion.
Celem pracy była ocena kliniczno-patologicznych cech endometrioidalnego raka błony śluzowej trzonu macicy w stadium I–II według klasyfikacji Międzynarodowej Federacji Ginekologii i Położnictwa (International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics, FIGO) w jednym ośrodku oraz podkreślenie czynników wpływających na wznowę choroby. Materiał i metody: W pracy wybrano kilka kliniczno-patologicznych czynników, takich jak wiek, wzrost, masa ciała, wskaźnik masy ciała, wartość antygenu nowotworowego CA-125, stopień w klasyfikacji FIGO, inwazja myometrium, inwazja przestrzeni limfatycznej, status receptorów estrogenowych/progesteronowych, a także radioterapia lub chemioterapia adiuwantowa. W celu oceny wszystkich cech kliniczno-patologicznych związanych z ryzykiem nawrotu choroby zastosowano jednoi wieloczynnikowy model proporcjonalnego ryzyka Coxa oraz analizę metodą Kaplana–Meiera. Wyniki: Mediana wieku wynosiła 55,05 roku, a mediana czasu obserwacji – 35 miesięcy. Nawrót choroby odnotowano u 11 chorych (11%): przerzuty odległe w 3, a wznowę miejscową w 8 przypadkach. W analizie jednoczynnikowej z nawrotem choroby powiązane były stopień złośliwości guza (P = 0,0045) oraz inwazja przestrzeni limfatycznej (P = 0,0374). Analiza wieloczynnikowa wykazała związek między każdym rodzajem nawrotu a inwazją przestrzeni limfatycznej (współczynnik ryzyka – hazard ratio, HR, 6,308; 95% przedział ufności CI 1,851–11,484). Wnioski: Wyniki niniejszego badania wskazują, że obecność inwazji przestrzeni limfatycznej jest ważnym czynnikiem nawrotu wczesnego raka endometrium. Samples of the invasive alien ladybird, Harmonia axyridis, were collected between 27 July and 8 August 2013 at four localities on the Pelješac Peninsula in southern Croatia. Altogether, 209 individuals were collected, of which 114 (54.5%) were males and 95 (45.5%) females. Three colour forms were present in the samples: the non-melanic form succinea and the melanic forms spectabilis and conspicua. The form succinea clearly predominated (90.5% of collected individuals) followed by spectabilis (8.1%) and conspicua (1.4%). The ectoparasitic fungus Hesperomyces virescens, not previously reported from Croatia, was found on the elytron of one H. axyridis individual. The localities in Pelješac Peninsula mentioned in this paper are the southernmost of all Croatian localities so far reported to be colonized by H. axyridis.

Opis:
The world-wide research on ship-aided dispersal of marine organisms and invasions of non-indigenous species focuses primarily on the plankters, which show the greatest potential for invading new areas and establishing viable populations in them, either in the water column (holoplankton) or on the bottom (meroplanktonic larvae of benthic species settling on the sea floor). As meiobenthic animals usually lack a pelagic larval stage in their life cycle, no biological invasion study has, to our knowledge, ever specifically targeted marine transport as a means of meiofaunal dispersal. Here we present a set of data showing that the sediment deposited in a ship’s ballast water tank does support a viable meiobenthic assemblage. We examined 0.015-dm3 aliquots of a 1 dm3 sample from a c. 1.5-cm thick layer of sediment residue in the ballast tank of MS Donnington, brought to the ‘Gryfia’ Repair Shipyard in Szczecin (Poland). The samples were found to contain representatives of calcareous Foraminifera, hydrozoans, nematodes, turbellarians, harpacticoid copepods and their nauplii, and cladocerans, as well as meiobenthic-sized bivalves and gastropods. Nematodes proved to be the most constant and most numerous component of the assemblage. The sediment portions examined revealed the presence of 1–11 individuals representing 11 marine nematode genera. The viability of the meiobenthic assemblage was evidenced by the presence of ovigerous females of both nematodes and harpacticoids. Survival of the meiobenthos in shipborne ballast tank sediment residues may provide at least a partial explanation for the cosmopolitan distribution of meiobenthic taxa and may underlie the successful colonisation of new habitats by invasive meiofaunal species.

One of the factors limiting crop growth is weeds. The weeds lead to a reduced performance of the crops. Chemical control methods are considered appropriate for controlling weeds. Therefore, in the fight to control weeds in triticale, the performance of the dual-purpose herbicide sulfosulfuron(Apirus®), mesosulfuron + idosulfuron(Atlantis®), metsulfuron methyl+sulfosulfuron(Total®) with surfactant and isoproton + diflufenican(Panther®) from the sulfonylurea group, and narrow leaf herbicides clodinafobpropargyl( Topik®), pinoxaden(New Axial®), diclofop-methyl(Iloxan®), pinoxaden + clodinafob-propagyl (Traxos ®), fenoxaprop-pethyl + mefen-pyper-d-ethyl(PumaSuper®), tralkoksidim(Grasb®) with 1 liter oil, flam-prop-m-isopropyl(Suffix BW®), and control treatment without herbicides were evaluated. The test was carried out in a randomized complete block design with four replications. Spraying was carried out using a back sprayer. For evaluation of ocular damage, the European Weed Research Council (EWRC) standard method was used. According to the performed studies, the narrow leaves of wild oat and barnyard grass were the dominant weeds. Results showed that all herbicide, except the herbicide tralkoksidim, were effective in weed control. The triticale yield was maintained with the use of these herbicides and none of herbicide had an adverse effect on the crop. In the first weeks of herbicide use, the triticale leaves appeared pale but this problem resolved over time. It seems that the herbicides discussed in this paper can be used on the triticale plant.

Ecto-5'-nucleotidase (eN, CD73) mediates extracellular adenosine production from 5'-AMP. Non-enzymatic functions of eN have also been reported. The aim of the study was to investigate the role of ecto-5'-nucleotidase in aggressive melanoma behaviour. Analysis of the involvement of eN in adhesion, migration and invasion revealed eN functions unknown to date. We found that following eN blockade by concanavalin A, the strength of adhesion to different ECM proteins was not altered, but at the same time the invasion ability of the cells was decreased. On the other hand, knocking down eN in melanoma cells did not influence cell invasion but abolished their migration on tenascin C (TnC). Ecto-5'-nucleotidase seems to fulfil a more distinct role as a receptor than as an enzyme in the cell interaction and mobility on TnC. Ecto-5'-nucleotidase activates also focal adhesion kinase and enhances the formation of complexes upon cell adhesion to TnC. All these observations prove that an eN-TnC complex is involved in cell migration and invasion and thus in the regulation of melanoma progression.

Opis:
Earlier reports suggest that the endocannabinoids may play a role of endogenous tumor growth modulators. In this study, we investigated whether inhibition of the enzymes involved in the synthesis and degradation of endocannabinoids may reduce colorectal cancer cell invasion and migration. The human colon adenocarcinoma Colo-205 cells were incubated with PF-3845, JZL-184 and RHC-80267 (fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH), mono- (MAGL) and diacylglycerol lipase (DAGL) inhibitors, respectively) for 48 h. The MTT colorimetric assay was performed to quantify cell viability. Next, Colo-205 cells were incubated with PF-3845 alone or with PF-3845 together with selected antagonists: AM 251, AM 630, SB 366791, RN 1734 and G-15 (CB1, CB2, TRPV1, TRPV4 and GPR30 antagonists, respectively). Western blot assay was applied to identify the changes in CB1 and CB2 receptor expression. Migration and invasion assays were employed to characterize the effect of PF-3845 on colorectal cancer cell invasion. We found that of all the inhibitors used, the FAAH inhibitor PF-3845 reduced the Colo-205 cell line viability the most effectively (IC50=52.55 μM). We also showed that the effect of decreased cell viability was enhanced when Colo-205 cells were incubated with PF-3845 and RN-1734, a TRPV4 antagonist (IC50=30.54 μM). Western blot assay revealed significantly decreased CB1 receptor expression levels, while CB2 expression was increased in response to PF-3845 when compared to control. Furthermore, PF-3845 inhibited migration and invasion of Colo-205 cell line. These results suggest that pharmacological inhibition of FAAH and consequent enhancement of the endocannabinoid levels may reduce the colorectal cancer growth and progression.

Alien brambles (Rubus, Rosaceae) generate significant ecological and nature conservational threats worldwide, however, the European flora and vegetation is not seriously affected by their impacts. In this study, I report on the distribution and habitats of alien brambles in Hungary, on the basis of comprehensive field studies and complete herbarium revision. The first introduction of a non-native species of bramble (R. phoenicolasius) was reported in 1999 in the country. R. armeniacus was first recognized in 2014 (but it had been present probably decades earlier). It typically occurs in forest-poor landscapes, in regions with larger closed forests it is mainly confined to plantations, but few occurrences in nature-like stand are also found. The occur- rences in the forest steppe region indicate its drought tolerance; besides, it is the only bramble species present in the areas of typical forest-steppe climate. The species is obviously advancing (with more than 100 localities altogether) and constitutes an actual threat for the diversity and structure of fringes and wooded grassland mosaics in drier regions. Two new casual aliens, R. laciniatus and R. occidentalis, are reported here for the first time for Hungary. Another two species, R. odoratus and R. xanthocarpus, are known only from cultivation.
