    The agent technology has recently become one of the most vibrant and fastest growing areas in information technology. On of the most promising characteristics of agent is its intelligence. Intelligent agent is the agent that percepts its environment, collects all information about its environment that it needs, processes these information and then generate proper actions according to these information. This paper discusses trends and differences between two main types of intelligence that can be applied to agent: accumulative intelligence and dynamic intelligence. Accumulative intelligence is discussed with its two perspectives: moment perspective and historical perspective. Auto-vehicle driver is also discussed as an application example of accumulative intelligence. Also, MOSAIC, Mimesis, and MINDY models are reviewed as the pioneering works of dynamic intelligence.

    Purpose – The purpose of this article is to discuss and show that management is a science, not just an art. Decision-making in the enterprise requires talent and special skills supported by the right qualifications. According to Tatarkiewicz, management can be considered as an art, which can be interpreted as follows: “(...) man’s conscious creation is a work of art always when it recreates reality, shapes forms, or expresses experience, yet it is able either to delight, or touch, or shock” (Tatarkiewicz, 1972). On the other hand, the company management is understood as a continuous process of making decisions based on reliable knowledge, observations and experiences – it is, therefore, a science, and modern managers are not just passive consumers of research knowledge, but also its creators. Contemporary theories focus attention on constructing appropriate models, which support the decisions of managers allowing them to somehow “spy” and observe the effects of their decisions. The aim of the paper is to show that in the modern economy, design models to support the management of the enterprise is the science that uses the achievements of other sciences, creative adaptation of these achievements in modeling phenomena occurring in the world economy. The aim of this article is to show that management sciences are increasingly exploiting modern knowledge to build models for developing practical concepts of management systems.Design/Methodology/Approach – The authors present the review of mathematical models, computer models (used in situations where the analytical models cannot find the best solution), and in particular artificial intelligence algorithms and selected models of dynamic system for managing the organization and some examples of applications.Findings – The results obtained show that in the management sciences, many models are used to support managerial decisions. Of course, the achievements of other sciences are very often used, management is of an application, but also of scientific nature, because, in order to skillfully use knowledge from other fields, decision-making models should be developed to solve problems in management and allow to use the achievements of these other areas.Research limitations/implications – The limitations of this paper result from the fact that only selected models are presented in the article. The authors hope that these selected models will be the argument that management science is becoming more and more science and not an art only.Originality/Value – This paper presents the review of modern methods used in management sciences to show that modern management is more a science than an art.

    A sub-type of multi-agent systems (MAS) called evolutionary ones (EMAS), special in its features and field of application, needs a dedicated architecture that would be more adequate and easier in design and implementation. The proposed architecture uses the notion of a profile which models strategies and goals of an agent with respect to an aspect of its operation. To make a decision, an agent is equipped with an algorithm that coordinates premises determined in its profiles. The paper presents main ideas of the architecture illustrated with an actual realisation of an EMAS solving the multi-objective optimisation problem.

    In recent years, due to the growing importance of eco-design and tightening EU regulations entrepreneurs are required to implement activities related to environmental protection. It influences the development of methods and tools enabling the implementation of eco-design into practice, which are increasingly used by modern information technologies. They are based on intelligent solutions that allows them to better match the requirements of designers and allows for the automation of processes, and in some cases they are able to do the work themselves, replacing designers. Details are useful in areas that require calculations, comparisons and making choices, which is the process of eco-design. The paper describes methodology of pro-ecological product design oriented towards recycling, based on agent technology, enables the design of environmentally friendly products including recycling. The description of the methodology was preceded by a literature analysis on the characteristics of tools supporting eco-design and the process of its development was presented. The proposed methodology can be used at the design stage of devices to select the best product in terms of ecology. It is based on the original set of recycling indicators, used to evaluate the recycling of the product, ensure the ability to operate in a distributed design environment, and the use of data from various CAD systems, allows full automation of calculations and updates (without user participation).

    The article is devoted to examining the causes of qualitative and quantitative anomalies in the activity of penetration agents within the security system of the Republic of Latvia and other NATO countries in the period after the collapse of the Soviet Union. The author presents selected cases of espionage within the Republic of Latvia and proposes explanations for the discrepancies between this Baltic country and other NATO countries in the number of detected agents.
    Artykuł jest poświęcony zbadaniu przyczyn anomalii jakościowych i ilościowych w zakresie działalności agentów penetracyjnych w ramach systemu bezpieczeństwa Republiki Łotwy oraz innych państw NATO w okresie po rozpadzie Związku Sowieckiego. Autor przed-stawia wybrane przypadki szpiegostwa na terenie Republiki Łotwy i proponuje wyjaśnienia rozbieżności między tym krajem bałtyckim i innymi państwami NATO w liczbie wykrytych agentów.

    Cities are increasingly recognized for their ability to play a catalytic role in addressing climate and energy challenges using technologically innovative approaches. Since energy used in urban areas accounts for about 40% of total EU energy consumption, a change of direction towards renewable energy is necessary in order to alleviate the usage of carbonized electricity and also to save money. A combination of IT and telecommunication technologies is necessary to enable the energy and resources saving. ICT based solutions can be used to enable energy and money saving not only for a single building, but for the whole community of a neighborhood. In this paper a model for the energy cost minimization of a neighborhood together with an agent-based interaction model that reproduces the proposed formal representation is presented. Furthermore the authors present a prototype implementation of this model and first experimental tests.

    The smart grid concept is predicated upon the pervasive use of advanced digital communication, information techniques, and artificial intelligence for the current power system, to be more characteristics of the real-time monitoring and controlling of the supply/demand. Microgrids are modern types of power systems used for distributed energy resource (DER) integration. However, the microgrid energy management, the control, and protection of microgrid components (energy sources, loads, and local storage units) is an important challenge. In this paper, the distributed energy management algorithm and control strategy of a smart microgrid is proposed using an intelligent multi-agent system (MAS) approach to achieve multiple objectives in real-time. The MAS proposed is developed with co-simulation tools, which the microgrid model, simulated using MATLAB/Simulink, and the MAS algorithm implemented in JADE through a middleware MACSimJX. The main study is to develop a new approach, able to communicate a multi-task environment such as MAS inside the S-function block of Simulink, to achieve the optimal energy management objectives.

    The publication presents the structure of the agent system, tasked with control of the formation of unmanned port tugboats capable of performing pilot and towing services. The use of autonomous tugboats with installed software was presented with respect to the existing regulations related to Resolution MSC.467 developed by the Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) belonging to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), which creates guidelines for the definition and harmonization of the structure and format of maritime services in the context of e-navigation. The use of a multi-agent system structure enables synergistic cooperation of tugboats carrying out joint port operations, such as: assistance in maneuvers of ships, precision movement of ships and other objects in port areas, monitoring and patrolling of port areas, carrying out ice operations, carrying out inspections of quays, the possibility of assistance in liquidation of petroleum and similar pollutant spills. The paper presents the structure of the agent system and the description of possible scenarios of port operations. The control algorithms and the applied methods of artificial intelligence, such as evolutionary algorithms with elements of fuzzy logic, were discussed. The recorded traffic parameters from the actions carried out in the simulator of the marine navigation environment were presented.

    The paper presents a hybrid combination of fuzzy rule-based systems and particle swarm optimization (PSO) approach - referred to as PSO fuzzy rule-based technique - for optimizing sets of fuzzy control rules synthesized from control data. The application of the proposed technique to a complex and non-linear problem of the control of backing up a truck to a loading dock is also presented in the paper.
    Artykuł prezentuje hybrydowe połączenie rozmytych systemów regułowych z metodami tzw. optymalizacji rojowej w celu optymalizowania zestawów rozmytych reguł sterujących syntetyzowanych z danych opisujących procesy sterowania. Zatem, artykuł proponuje rozszerzenie tradycyjnego zestawu komponentów wykorzystywanych dotychczas w budowie systemów tzw. inteligencji obliczeniowej obejmującego sztuczne sieci neuronowe, systemy rozmyte, algorytmy ewolucyjne (przede wszystkim, algorytmy genetyczne) czy też tzw. zbiory przybliżone o nowe narzędzie przeszukiwania rozważanych przestrzeni rozwiązań. Najpierw sformułowany został problem budowy regulatorów, których funkcjonowanie opisywane jest przy pomocy zestawów reguł rozmytych, na bazie danych opisujących procesy sterowania. Następnie przedstawiono zarys procesu syntezy rozmytych reguł sterowania z wykorzystaniem metod tzw. optymalizacji rojowej. Z kolei, zaprezentowano zastosowanie proponowanego podejścia do złożonego i nieliniowego problemu sterowania cofaniem ciężarówki do rampy załadowczej. Przedstawiono uzyskaną bazę reguł regulatora rozmytego, kształty funkcji przynależności zbiorów rozmytych występujących w regułach sterowania oraz wybrane przykłady trajektorii ruchu ciężarówki ze sterowaniem rozmytym.

    This publication contains the information concerning illegal operations of the German intelligence in the years 1918-1927, ascertained by the Polish special services – the Second Department of the Polish General Staff (the Second Department). The paper is based on source documents currently stored by the Institute of National Remembrance and the Central Military Archive. Therefore, the information contained herein represents the data available to the Second Department in the relevant period. The Treaty of Versailles imposed military restrictions on Germany, limiting significantly their offensive capabilities. Driven by desires of further expansion and as a result of not coming to terms with the outcome of the Great War, the Abwehr had the government organizations operating in Poland infiltrated by undercover officers of the former Imperial German intelligence service. The most important ones included Consul, Zentrale Wannsee and Burgwall. In addition, the Second Department identified 16 detective bureaux receiving commissions from the Abwehr and eleven commercial establishments cooperating with the intelligence service. Furthermore, numerous officers of the pre-war German intelligence service did not find employment with the state, which gave rise to the rank-and-file initiative to create private intelligence bureaux. The pre-war connections were still maintained. The substantive value of the text consists in identifying the said organizations and presenting the then available information about them. Such data can be useful for researchers of the period of revival of the Polish State, methods employed for “bypassing” the Treaty of Versailles by the German Reich and the activity of German organizations in Poland in the relevant period. Furthermore, the paper may serve as a case study for the infiltration of organizations seemingly unrelated to the armed forces by intelligence agents.

    Opis:
    The System of Joint Acquisition of Enemy Data (SOUD) ushered in a new stage of the cooperation between Bulgaria, the GDR, Mongolia, Poland, Cuba, Vietnam, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, and the USSR in the sphere of intelligence and counterintelligence. Its ideology and organisation were designed by the Soviet Union – an initiative that started in 1975. The system was inaugurated and came into force in 1981. By the end of 1989, when it started falling apart, there was an intense and active exchange of intelligence data between the member countries. Over this period of time, Bulgaria collected information on 17,000 persons and Moscow on more than 260,000. This information was shared with the rest of the SOUD member countries.
    Połączony System Ewidencji Danych o Przeciwniku (SOUD) otworzył nowy etap współpracy pomiędzy Bułgaria, NRD, Mongolią, Polską, Kubą, Wietnamem, Węgrami, Czechosłowacją i ZSRR w obszarach wywiadu i kontrwywiadu. Ideologia i struktura organizacyjna zostały wypracowane w ZSRR w ramach inicjatywy rozpoczętej w 1975 roku. System został inaugurowany i uruchomiony w 1981 roku. Pod koniec 1989 roku, kiedy system zaczął ulegać dezintegracji, pomiędzy krajami członkowskimi zachodziła intensywna i aktywna wymiana danych wywiadowczych. W tym okresie Bułgaria gromadziła informacje na temat 17 000 osób, a Moskwa – ponad 260 000. Informacje te były wymieniane z pozostałymi krajami członkowskimi SOUD.

    The paper presents a new approach to software development of diagnostic machines. The proposed system is a collection of many independent applications called agents which gain the diagnostic information, process it and inform the user of the system of the occurrence of significant events concerning the operation of the object. This allows a comprehensively support of the operation process by detecting the current condition and forecast a failure. An important feature of the proposed system is the speed, ability to learn through the use of artificial intelligence and openness that allows for any development of the system by adding more new items pursuing new activities or the same action on a different basis (increasing the reliability of inference).
    W pracy przedstawiono nowe podejście do tworzenia oprogramowania diagnostycznego maszyn. Zaproponowany system jest zbiorem wielu niezależnych aplikacji nazwanych agentami, które pozyskują informację diagnostyczną, przetwarzają ją i informują użytkownika systemu o wystąpieniu istotnych zdarzeń dotyczących eksploatacji obiektu. Pozwala to kompleksowo wspomagać proces eksploatacji poprzez wykrywanie aktualnego stanu i prognozę do awarii. Istotną cechą zaproponowanego systemu jest szybkość działania, zdolność uczenia się poprzez zastosowanie metod sztucznej inteligencji oraz otwartość pozwalająca na dowolny rozwój systemu poprzez dodawanie kolejnych nowych elementów realizujących nowe działania lub te same działania w oparciu o inne zasady (zwiększanie niezawodności wnioskowania).

Besides recalling our past papers, we describe the whole concept, present an implementation in a contemporary, componentoriented software framework AgE 3.0 and we conduct a number of experiments, finding different optimal parametrization for the considered instances of the problems (popular Mackey-Glass chaotic time series). The paper may be useful for a practitioner willing to use our meatheuristic algorithm (EMAS) along with the idea of collective agent-based system in order to realize prediction tasks.
