The author describes the mechanisms of safety and security profiles of industry and communication networks used within safety - related applications in technological and information levels of process control recommended according to standards IEC 61784-3,4. Nowadays the number of vendors of the safety - related communication technologies who guarantees besides the standard communication, the communication amongst the safety - related equipment according to IEC 61508 is increasing. Also the number of safety - related products is increasing, e. g. safety Fieldbus, safety PLC, safety curtains, safety laser scanners, safety buttons, safety relays and other. According to world survey the safety Fieldbus denoted the highest growth from all manufactured safety products.The main part of this paper is the description of the safety-related Fieldbus communication system, which has to guaranty Safety Integrity Level.
Autor przedstawia mechanizmy bezpieczeństwa i profili zabezpieczeń sieci przemysłowych i łączności używanych w aplikacjach związanych z bezpieczeństwem na poziomach technologicznym i informacyjnym sterowania procesami, rekomendowanych zgodnie z normami IEC 61784-3,4. Obecnie wzrasta liczba firm -dostawców technologii łączności związanymi z bezpieczeństwem, które gwarantują, poza standardową łącznością, łączność pomiędzy urządzeniami związanymi z bezpieczeństwem, zgodnie z IEC 61508. Zwiększa się także liczba wyrobów związanych z bezpieczeństwem, np. zabezpieczający Fieldbus, zabezpieczający PLC, osłony bezpieczeństwa, zabezpieczające skanery laserowe, przyciski bezpieczeństwa, przekaźniki zabezpieczające i inne. Zgodnie ze światowymi badaniami, zabezpieczający Fieldbus zarejestrował największy wzrost pośród wszystkich wytwarzanych wyrobów zabezpieczających, Główną częścią referatu jest opis związanego z bezpieczeństwem systemu łączności Fieldbus, który ma na celu zagwarantowanie Poziomu Integralności Bezpieczeństwa.

The globalization process and the marginalization of Europe in world production prompted the German economy to implement the Industry 4.0 concept called the fourth industrial revolution. As a part of the proposed concept, a close connection of physical objects with the information network should be made. Enterprises will connect by intelligent resources communicating through the modern Internet of Things technologies, big data, and cloud computing. Therefore modern enterprises have a new further challenge which means a need to build and cooperate within cyber-physical systems. The aim of the article is to present key challenges for Polish small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises oriented to the cooperation within the Industry 4.0 concept. Furthermore, the results of surveys conducted on a selected group of Polish production companies in the metal sector are shown. These results present the condition of Polish enterprises, their concerns and expectations regarding the implementation of the Industry 4.0 concept. The paper contains also the new idea to create the Cyber Industry Network (CIN) which means a kind of the on-line available platform for exchanging production capacity of small and medium enterprises and allows for the efficient combining of free resources to realize joint production projects.

Currently, technological parks constitute the most organisational and conceptually developed type of innovation centres and entrepreneurship. This results in the fact that they can be encountered in all highly developed countries in the world. They are also formed in the catching-up countries. However, one should consider whether the stimulation of innovation in the countries, which are not based on knowledge through institutional solutions used in the developed countries will turn out to be effective. Because between these countries there is a technological gap. The aim of the article was therefore to determine, using the probit modelling, the direction and strength of technological parks on the innovation activity. The study covered two provinces: Silesian, which is one of the most developed regions in Poland and Pomeranian with the intermediate industrial system. The influence of technological parks on innovation was determined based on the survey conducted in 1453 industrial enterprises. The main conclusions are brought down to the following theses: (1) using the technological parks increases the chance for the implementation of new solutions by enterprises, (2) parks to a greater extent stimulate the innovation activity in the developed province, (3) enterprises entering in the cross-regional network relations favours the selection of the technological park as the catalyst for innovation processes.

The aim of the article is to identify the specifics of the furniture industry based upon the example of Poland and with the application of the industrial network approach. In the article, the ARA (Actors-Resources-Activities) model is adopted as the basic framework developed within the industrial network approach. This in turn allows for the identification of the interdependencies between important entities (actors), resources and activities influencing this industry, the main entities within the industry, the surrounding business environment as well as their characteristics. A special emphasis is put on the entities from the environment surrounding the furniture industry so as to include some significant factors influencing it – both in a positive and negative sense.
Ważne korzyści otrzymywane dzięki współpracy i relacjom sieciowym są istotne zarówno z perspektywy samych przedsiębiorstw (z powodu chociażby poprawy wyników rynkowych), jak i konkretnych przemysłów czy całej gospodarki (poprawa konkurencyjności). Z tego powodu identyfikacja potencjału sieciowego na poziomie konkretnego przemysłu wraz z analizą jego specyfiki w ujęciu sieciowym jest również istotna dla wspierania więzi regulacyjnych dotyczących danej dziedziny gospodarki. W związku z powyższym celem artykułu jest identyfikacja specyfiki – ważnego dla polskiej gospodarki – przemysłu meblarskiego z wykorzystaniem podejścia sieciowego i dzięki temu wskazanie istotnych podmiotów, a także zależności w zakresie zasobów i działań, wywierających wpływ na ten przemysł. W prezentowanej analizie wykorzystano model ARA (Actors-Resources-Activities), który jest jednym z podstawowych modeli stosowanych do analizy zależności w podejściu sieciowym. W efekcie możliwe było wskazanie specyfiki omawianego przemysłu zgodnie z modelem ARA (w zakresie podmiotów, zasobów i działań), a w szczególności zidentyfikowanie głównych podmiotów przemysłu i otoczenia oraz ich charakterystyki. Jest to o tyle ważne, że ograniczanie analiz wyłącznie do podmiotów z danego przemysłu powoduje pominięcie istotnych czynników wywierających na niego wpływ – zarówno pozytywny, jak i negatywny. Dokonana analiza specyfiki przemysłu meblarskiego z wykorzystaniem modelu ARA stanowi pewien schemat koncepcyjny, który ma dać podstawę do przyszłych analiz z zakresu złożoności relacji poszczególnych przedsiębiorstw oraz całego przemysłu.

Research background: In a modern economy, full of complexities, ensuring a business' financial stability, and increasing its financial performance and competitiveness, has become especially difficult. Then, monitoring the company's financial situation and predicting its future development becomes important. Assessing the financial health of business entities using various models is an important area in not only scientific research, but also business practice. Purpose of the article: This study aims to predict the bankruptcy of companies in the engineering and automotive industries of the Slovak Republic using a multilayer neural network and logistic regression. Importantly, we develop a novel an early warning model for the Slovak engineering and automotive industries, which can be applied in countries with undeveloped capital markets. Methods: Data on the financial ratios of 2,384 companies were used. We used a logistic regression to analyse the data for the year 2019 and designed a logistic model. Meanwhile, the data for the years 2018 and 2019 were analysed using the neural network. In the prediction model, we analysed the predictive performance of several combinations of factors based on the industry sector, use of the scaling technique, activation function, and ratio of the sample distribution to the test and training parts. Findings & value added: The financial indicators ROS, QR, NWC/A, and PC/S reduce the likelihood of bankruptcy. Regarding the value of this work, we constructed an optimal network for the automotive and engineering industries using nine financial indicators on the input layer in combination with one hidden layer. Moreover, we developed a novel prediction model for bankruptcy using six of these indicators. Almost all sampled industries are privatised, and most companies are foreign owned. Hence, international companies as well as researchers can apply our models to understand their financial health and sustainability. Moreover, they can conduct comparative analyses of their own model with ours to reveal areas of model improvements.

The article presents a business model based on an industrial network of companies capable of producing personalized products in an Industry 4.0 environment. Based on research conducted in Poland, in manufacturing companies, the critical problems associated with the implementation of Industry 4.0 technologies and the expected benefits associated with their implementation are addressed. The model’s task is to integrate a customer expecting personalized production with a network of companies with the appropriate production resources. The original achievement is the integration of the customer and the manufacturer around an e-business platform, which allows the rapid prototyping of a network of SME companies capable of realizing personalized production. The proposed model describes the architecture of enterprise cooperation under the conditions of implementing the Industry 4.0 concept and is dedicated to the SME sector. The model provides a basis for building prototypes of e-business platforms of small and medium-sized enterprises.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be defined as the application of science and engineering with the intent of intelligent machine composition. It involves using tool based on intelligent behavior of humans in solving complex issues, designed in a way to make computers execute tasks that were earlier thought of human intelligence involvement. In comparison to other computational automations, AI facilitates and enables time reduction based on personnel needs and most importantly, the operational expenses. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is an area of great interest and significance in petroleum exploration and production. Over the years, it has made an impact in the industry, and the application has continued to grow within the oil and gas industry. The application in E & P industry has more than 16 years of history with first application dated 1989, for well log interpretation; drill bit diagnosis using neural networks and intelligent reservoir simulator interface. It has been propounded in solving many problems in the oil and gas industry which includes, seismic pattern recognition, reservoir characterisation, permeability and porosity prediction, prediction of PVT properties, drill bits diagnosis, estimating pressure drop in pipes and wells, optimization of well production, well performance, portfolio management and general decision making operations and many more. This paper reviews and analyzes the successful application of artificial intelligence techniques as related to one of the major aspects of the oil and gas industry, drilling capturing the level of application and trend in the industry. A summary of various papers and reports associated with artificial intelligence applications and it limitations will be highlighted. This analysis is expected to contribute to further development of this technique and also determine the neglected areas in the field.

After three industrial revolutions, the fourth has come, transferring production to sophisticated networks of companies equipped with intelligent devices, machines, and means of transport, communicating with each other using modern technologies. It creates new challenges for industrial companies; it requires existing business models to be redefined. The development of the Industry 4.0 concept forces modern companies, especially small and medium-sized enterprises, to quickly and flexibly adapt to the changing demand conditions. This is reflected in the creation of new business models, ones that allow for the introduction of innovations, the rapid reorganization of processes, and very flexible adaptation of enterprises to the conditions of a changing environment. The aim of the article is to present the concept of a business model assuming the creation of a network of small and medium-sized enterprises that are able to generate added value for their clients in the era of Industry 4.0.

This study is focused on the issue of digital neural networks’ implementation in the context of maritime industry. Various algorithms of such networks in the terms of the marine technologies have been reviewed in the current study in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the methodology and to propose a new concept of an artificial neural network’s application in this way. Fire-detection system simulation based on the thermal imagers’ data input had been developed to assess the efficiency of the concept suggested with a multi-layer perceptron (MLP) algorithm integrated into the designed 3d-model.

The correctness of the geodetic service of an engineering object not seldom requires designing, alignment or renewing of geodetic situational control points. Building robots often cause that fixed situational control points are partly or completely inaccessible. For setting the position of these control points, there is worked out the methodology using the optoelectronic method. The prepared set of tools realizes the method’s assumptions and enables to determine the sides and control points based on the set of laser planes. In this article there is presented the innovative set of geodetic equipment for fixing horizontal control points. The presented set has been experimentally tested under laboratory conditions taking its functionality, operation range and applied accuracy into account. The measurement accuracy of the set of tools, resulting from identification of the energetic centres of laser planes’ edges, visualizing the sides of geodetic control networks, is within the range of ±0.02mm - ±0.05mm. There were also discussed exemplary versions of shapes and structures of horizontal geodetic control networks (regular and irregular), which are possible to be fixed with the use of the constructed set of tools.

Artificial neural networks are one of the modern methods of the production optimisation. An attempt to apply neural networks for controlling the quality of bentonite moulding sands is presented in this paper. This is the assessment method of sands suitability by means of detecting correlations between their individual parameters. This paper presents the next part of the study on usefulness of artificial neural networks to support rebonding of green moulding sand, using chosen properties of moulding sands, which can be determined fast. The effect of changes in the training set quantity on the quality of the network is presented in this article. It has been shown that a small change in the data set would change the quality of the network, and may also make it necessary to change the type of network in order to obtain good results.

Industrial Control Systems (ICS) are commonly used in industries such as oil and natural gas, transportation, electric, water and wastewater, chemical, pharmaceutical, pulp and paper, food and beverage, as well as discrete manufacturing (e.g., automotive, aerospace, and durable goods.) SCADA systems are generally used to control dispersed assets using centralized data acquisition and supervisory control. Originally, ICS implementations were susceptible primarily to local threats because most of their components were located in physically secure areas (i.e., ICS components were not connected to IT networks or systems). The trend toward integrating ICS systems with IT networks (e.g., efficiency and the Internet of Things) provides significantly less isolation for ICS from the outside world thus creating greater risk due to external threats. Albeit, the availability of ICS/SCADA systems is critical to assuring safety, security and profitability. Such systems form the backbone of our national cyber-physical infrastructure. Herein, we extend the concept of mean failure cost (MFC) to address quantifying availability to harmonize well with ICS security risk assessment. This new measure is based on the classic formulation of Availability combined with Mean Failure Cost (MFC). The metric offers a computational basis to estimate the availability of a system in terms of the loss that each stakeholder stands to sustain as a result of security violations or breakdowns (e.g., deliberate malicious failures).
