Evaluation of impact loads when a ship hull contacts the wave surface is one of the main issues for researchers who are going to design the structure of marine vehicles. In this paper, the results of experimental tests and numerical modeling of the distribution of pressure on different wedge-shaped models are reported and the effect of related parameters such as the deadrise angles, the weight and drop heights, is assessed. The output of analyses and the results can give appropriate approximations of the maximum impact pressures for the geometries that are similar to marine vehicle’s hull sections to estimate the hydrodynamic impact loads in different sea-states. In addition, other effective parameters such as the impact speed, acceleration and water entry process can be used for evaluating the performance of such crafts.

Opis:
The problem of impact pressure distribution on a monopole structure excited by irregular breaking waves is investigated. The analysis is performed by applying a numerical model that combines potential flow model with a Navier-Stokes/VOF solution. The temporal pressure distribution is analysed for two breaking wave cases characterized by the significant difference in the steepness of the wave front. The peak impact pressures are observed in the region below the overturning wave jet where the pressure increases rapidly resulting in a peak value of the slamming coefficient equal to Cs=2π. The vertical load distribution provided by the derived model is more realistic than a rectangular shape distribution applied in engineering practice. This is because the vertical load distribution strongly depends on breaking wave shape and it is difficult to uniquely approximate such a load distribution by a rectangle.

Opis:
Prediction of the pressure distribution on a planing craft in waves deeply affects its structural design and safe operation. In this paper, the possibility of pressure prediction for the planing craft in waves is studied. A combined method is formulated by which craft motions in waves are computed using a 2.5D method, and the impact pressure is anticipated by the equivalent wedge method. Experiments are conducted to record the vertical acceleration and pressure time trends on a model. Comparing the results of the combined method with the experiments indicates that this approach successfully predicts the heave and pitch motions and the time evolution of the acceleration and pressure. The method presents good estimations for the peaks of the acceleration and pressure. Using the combined method, a parametric study on maximum peak acceleration and pressure is also conducted for various forward velocities and wave heights. It has been shown that the combined method is a fast and reliable tool for maximum peak pressure prediction. The method may be employed for structural design and optimization.

Opis:
A theoretical approach was applied to investigate the impact of nonlinear standing waves underneath a horizontal deck. A solution was achieved by applying a boundary element method. The model was applied to predict impact pressure underneath a deck. The results show that the wave impact is a very complex momentary process. The influence of initial boundary conditions, wave parameters and deck clearance on impact pressure are analysed. The analysis shows that purely sinusoidal waves of very small amplitude may cause an impact pressure several orders of magnitude higher than a pressure arising from typical applications of a linear wave theory. The analysis shows that all these non-intuitive outcomes arise from the complexity of a wave impact process and its enormous sensitivity to initial conditions what indicates serious difficulties in a reliable prediction of a wave impact for complex wave fields or other structures. Laboratory experiments were conducted to validate theoretical results.
Opracowany model zapewnia wyniki z dokładnością umożliwiającą zastosowanie go w zadaniach inżynierskich.

The Semarang-Demak plain has experienced intense human intervention over the last 40 years, thereby causing land subsidence. This study aims to assess long-term conditions in the study area using the drivers-pressures- state-impacts-response (DPSIR) framework to mitigate land subsidence. Methods include analysis of land subsidence, socioeconomic, surface, and subsurface data, as well as spatial analysis. Results show that rapid population growth and economic activities are major driving forces, manifesting as pressures exerted from overexploitation of groundwater, increasing building and infrastructure loads, and decreasing non-built areas. Groundwater overexploitation reduced the artesian pressure in the 1980s, forming depression cones of the groundwater level from 5 to 30 m below mean sea level. From 1984 to the present, the constructed areas have increased more than tenfold, with Semarang City possessing the most densely built area. Based on our findings, we propose responses consisting of surface water utilization, spatial building regulation, and rigorous groundwater and land subsidence monitoring. Moreover, we encourage the strengthening of law enforcement and inter-sectoral management to ensure the successful land subsidence mitigation.

The paper presents the results of measurements of surface pressure of Fuerte avocado with the use of Tekscan system in impact loading conditions were presented. Contour lines of thrusts for two variants of loading which differ with speed and energy in the moment of crash were determined. Average values measured during the test were determined and statistical analysis was carried out for them. It was determined that the increase of speed and energy results in the increase of value of the maximum surface pressure but does not influence significantly their distribution on the resistance surface. It was proved that in the central area of contact mainly elastic strains appeared at the lack of plastic strains of tissue.

Objectives Atmospheric pressure is the most objective weather factor because regardless of if outdoors or indoors it affects all objects in the same way. The majority of previous studies have used the average daily values of atmospheric pressure in a bioclimatic analysis and have found no correlation with blood pressure changes. The main objective of our research was to assess the relationship between atmospheric pressure recorded with a frequency of 1 measurement per minute and the results of 24-h blood pressure monitoring in patients with treated hypertension in different seasons in the moderate climate of the City of Łódź (Poland). Material and Methods The study group consisted of 1662 patients, divided into 2 equal groups (due to a lower and higher average value of atmospheric pressure). Comparisons between blood pressure values in the 2 groups were performed using the Mann-Whitney U test. Results We observed a significant difference in blood pressure recorded during the lower and higher range of atmospheric pressure: on the days of the spring months systolic (p = 0.043) and diastolic (p = 0.005) blood pressure, and at nights of the winter months systolic blood pressure (p = 0.013). Conclusions A significant inverse relationship between atmospheric pressure and blood pressure during the spring days and, only for systolic blood pressure, during winter nights was observed. Acoustic radiation sources are successfully applied to cleaning rooms from dust of fairly large particle sizes (ten micrometers and larger). The sedimentation of fine aerosols (particle diameter of 1–10 microns) is a more complicated challenge. The paper is devoted to the substantiation of the acoustic sedimentation method for such aerosols. On the basis of the mathematical model analysis for aerosol sedimentation by the acoustic field the mechanisms of this process have been determined and include the particle coagulation acceleration and radiation pressure effect. The experimental results of the acoustic sedimentation of a model aerosol (NaCl) are shown. The calculation results according to the mathematical model for coagulation and sedimentation, on the basis of the Smolukhovsky’s equation taking into account various mechanisms of aerosol sedimentation by sound depending on the particle sizes and sound intensity, are given. The necessity to use intensive sources of high-frequency sound has been confirmed, suggesting that these sources must be located above dust clouds.

Urethane foam mattresses are commonly used as cushioning when placing panel flooring on the floor slab of a building. Urethane foam consists of elastic fibres with pores. Both elements can affect the performance of the insulation against impact sounds. However, these effects have not yet been detailed, and they may change if the material properties or constitution of the fibres and pores in the cushioning change. In this paper, we propose an analytical model for use in evaluating the performance of insulation against floor impact sound. This model was used to examine the contribution of the pores versus the elastic fibres to wave transmissions from the flooring surface to the slab. The results reveal that the constitution of the foam (either open or closed cells of pores) and the thickness and hardness of the cushion layer strongly affect the sound insulation performance of the floor.

Based on the experimental study of cavitation water jet impact on microforming, a single round hole micro-die was used in this paper. The effect of different process parameters on the performance of 304 stainless steel foil was examined, which involves the nanometer hardness, and elastic modulus. The nano-indentation tester was used to test the nano-hardness of the formed part, and the performance of the workpiece before and after the impact was analyzed. The nano hardness and elastic modulus increased significantly with an increase in the incident pressure. When the incident pressure was 20 MPa and the impact time of 5 min, the hardness increased by at least 122%, and the elastic modulus increased by at least 76%. After the cavitation water jet shocked the metallic foil of the SEM analysis and the results indicated that, as the incident pressure increases, the surface morphology of the formed part changes from approximately spherical to spherical, and the spherical roundness increases. In addition, there were different degrees of defects at the bottom of the formed part, and as the incident pressure increased, the bottom defects became more and more obvious, from micro-cracks to micro-layer cracks.

Vibrations in building constructions may propagate through mounting elements to wall cladding panels. It is confirmed that they can have an impact on the sound pressure level radiated from panels and might have a significant influence on the total SPL in a room. In this work possibilities for calculating a parameter determining a change of SPL value depending on the number of panels and its mounting method are presented. A computational model based on vibration velocity measurements was used to estimate the total SPL value in a room. The laboratory and in situ measurements are presented. Transfer function for two elastic elements used as additional elements in a junction was calculated. Finally, ΔLp and ΔLv were calculated, as parameters defining the impact of various panel mounting methods on the reduction of sound pressure level and vibration level value, respectively.

The dynamic splitting strength of new and old concrete increases with the increase of impact velocity, but the increase rate decreased with the increase of temperature. The dynamic splitting strength first increases slowly and then decreases dramatically with the increase of temperature. Paper discusses the problem of pressure drop in the process of working medium flow through combustion chamber of gas turbine. The pressure loss is an internal disadvantage of combustion chamber depends on many parameters, especially the chamber design and working gas flowrate. There is a problem to calculate the parameters of working medium in characteristic points of gas turbine thermodynamic cycle because the total pressure before and after combustion chamber is not known. There is a lack of information from manufacturer about it and in publications as well (mainly no experimental data, only theoretical considerations). It will be important information because the pressure drop has an meaningful influence on gas turbine performance. The paper presents an estimation of decreasing the performance of gas turbine from discussed reason. Author of that manuscript recognized the necessity of showing the importance of that parameter and turning the attention to not fully recognized problem.
Opis:
To promote the application of rubber-cement composites as the main bearing structure and key components in practical engineering under frequent dynamic disturbances, in this work, the split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) cyclic impact tests of rubber-cement composite specimens with four different confine modes were carried out in which the impact load increased sequentially. The relationship between average strain rate, ultimate strain and impact times and the relationship between peak stress, damage energy, ultimate strain and incident energy were analyzed. The results showed that the appropriate confine reinforcement treatment can make rubber-cement composite give full play to its deformation ability when it was completely damaged. Carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) sheet and steel cylinder can work together with the rubber-cement composite matrix to resist impact load, which effectively improves the structural strength, damage fracture energy, and cyclic impact resistance of the rubber-cement composite. Finally, based on the effect difference of confine modes, the simplified plane force models of rubber-cement composite specimens with four different confine modes were established, which clearly revealed the completely different impact resistance mechanism of the rubber-cement composites with different constraints under cyclic impact loading.
