This study presents an attempt to apply the AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) method for the determination of the most beneficial concept of development of a barrage. The main focus of the analysis was the influence of the civil engineering structure on various elements of the environment. The AHP method was applied to analyse the influence of specific scenarios on environmental elements and on the overall objective. Basing on the analysis, local and global priorities were determined for individual elements of the created decision tree, which allowed us to select the most beneficial scenario. The scenarios referred to the existing hydraulic structures located on the rivers Głomia, Gwda and Prosna. In order to verify the obtained results, calculations of the consistency of the importance evaluations for specific criteria were performed.

Russia's hostile actions against the Estonian state structures take the form of soft power, which can be observed in such areas as the activities of the Russian-speaking minority, media coverage, or through the use of coercion when it comes to fuel sales. This article presents qualitative methods of measuring Russian influence on Estonia. An observable trend in international relations is replacing hard power with soft power, commonly used against states within the sphere of interest of certain geopolitical entities. It is more difficult to identify the latter and prove it results from an aggressor's deliberate actions. Information warfare, including disinformation and propaganda, is one of the means Russia uses to exert political influence. By accepting the offer of a political and military alliance with the Western world, the Baltic States have become a threat to the Kremlin's imperialist aspirations. Russia's direct military actions against Estonia and the other Baltic states would have provoked a strong reaction and could even have led to military confrontation. However, the Russian government wishes to avoid it and, for the time being, limits itself to soft power measures.

Opis:
Prediction of the pressure distribution on a planing craft in waves deeply affects its structural design and safe operation. In this paper, the possibility of pressure prediction for the planing craft in waves is studied. A combined method is formulated by which craft motions in waves are computed using a 2.5D method, and the impact pressure is anticipated by the equivalent wedge method. Experiments are conducted to record the vertical acceleration and pressure time trends on a model. Comparing the results of the combined method with the experiments indicates that this approach successfully predicts the heave and pitch motions and the time evolution of the acceleration and pressure. The method presents good estimations for the peaks of the acceleration and pressure. Using the combined method, a parametric study on maximum peak acceleration and pressure is also conducted for various forward velocities and wave heights. It has been shown that the combined method is a fast and reliable tool for maximum peak pressure prediction. The method may be employed for structural design and optimization.

Opis:
A cortical bone tissue is susceptible to fracture that can be caused by events, such as traumatic falls, sports injuries and traffic accidents. A proper treatment of bones and prevention of their fracture can be supported by in-depth understanding of deformation and fracture behaviour of this tissue in such dynamic events. Parameters such as damage initiation under impact, damage progression and impact strength can help to achieve this goal. In this paper, Extended Finite-Element Method (X- FEM) implemented into the commercial finite-element software Abaqus is used to simulate the actual crack initiation and growth in a cantilever beam of cortical bone exposed to quasi-static and impact loading using the Izod loading scheme. Izod tests were performed on notched bone specimens of bovine femur to measure its impact strength and to validate simulations. The simulation results show a good agreement with the experimental data.
W prezentowanej pracy przedyskutowano implementację rozszerzonej metody elementów skończonych (X-FEM) do standardowego i komercyjnego pakietu ABAQUS w celu symulacji faktycznych zjawisk towarzyszących inicjacji i propagacji pęknięcia belki wykonanej z materiału oddającego właściwości istoty korowej poddanej działaniu quasi-statycznych i uderzeniowych obciążeń, wspartej próbami udarnościowymi Izoda. Testy Izoda zostały przeprowadzone na przygotowanych próbkach z bydlęcej kości udowej z naciętym karbem w celu eksperymentalnej weryfikacji wytrzymałości na uderzenie. Rezultaty badań numerycznych wykazały dobrą zgodność z wynikami tych prób.

Bumping is one of the natural hazards that occur in Polish collieries. It is a common phenomenon but difficult to predict and very often it causes huge losses in mining equipment and roadway structure. Death of miners working underground is most severe result of bumping. To reduce or even to eliminate results of bumping, especially fatal cases, many safety measures have been used. Frame of arch support is one of the measures applied to reduce dangerous results of bumping. Simulation test ofimpact load of arch yielding support was presented in the paper. The simulation of support load was realized in two stages. Static load of frame of yielding arch support was simulated at the first stage. Among others simulation of assembly of arch support components was carried out. Non-linear simulation, including contact phenomena, was conducted for that purpose. First stage of the task was realized in MSC.Marc/Mentat software Structure of yielding arch support was dynamically loaded at the second stage. The forcing corresponded to real dynamic loads that werefound in mine workings. Second stage of the task was realized in MSC.Dytran software The results of simulations carried out at the KOMAG Institute of Mining Technology were compared with the results of tests of arch supports, which were realized at the Central Mining Institute.

Coordinate measuring arms (CMAs) are devices which more and more often replace conventional coordinate measuring machines because of their undoubted advantages, such as mobility, the opportunity to increase the measuring volume, the opportunity to connect the optical probe, and above all, good price-quality ratio. Because these devices are handheld and redundant, what has the greatest impact on the measurement result accuracy are the operator, the machine kinematics and its ability to obtain repeatable measurement results; despite the fact that one point can be obtained from an infinite number of shoulders’ positions. In this paper it was determined by using R&R method how significant are the impacts of both the operator and the measuring device on the accuracy of measurements done with CMA, both with rigid switch probe and optical probe.

The two-mass resonant vibro-impact module is presented as the rod system with cylindrical intermediate supports. The corresponding design diagram is constructed. Based on the finite element method, the frequency of free oscillations is defined for the corresponding location of the intermediate supports. A stress-strain state of the elastic element is considered. The stiffness of the intermediate supports is defined by solving the contact problem between the cylindrical rod supports and the flat spring. The dynamics of the vibro-impact rod system with multiple natural frequencies is analyzed taking into account the contact stiffness of the intermediate supports. The determination of contact and equivalent stresses occurring during the operation of the vibro-impact rod system is performed.

Mechanical peening is based on striking a worked material surface by hard balls (shot). In this work, a pneumatic method, applied for double-sided shot peening of the worked sample surface, was selected. The samples were made of the titanium alloy WT3-1 (Ti-6Al-2Cr-2Mo). The described work consists of two parts. The laboratory experiment was conducted in first part. After it realization, various observations were conducted. Observations of surface topography for samples were carried out before and after shot peening using scanning electron microscope (SEM). They revealed quite regular plastically deformed zones generated due to applied working. Neither microcracks, spallings nor delaminations in deformed surface layer of the titanium alloy were observed which attests to correct technological process of the surface hardening. The numeric simulation of the peening process was conducted in part second. The physical model described non-simultaneous impact of three steel balls onto rectangular metal sheet made of the above-mentioned titanium alloy. Numerical FEM analysis for nonlinear dynamics (explicit) was carried out using LS-Dyna software (Livermore Software Technology Corporation). In the paper are presented maps of the material effort in surface layers for times corresponding to conditions after impacts of the first, second, and the third ballof cast steel shot.

Opis:
The number of motor vehicles in the European Union (EU) is constantly increasing, which is causing an increase in the traffic volume. This, in turn, boosts the economic development of the EU member states. However, an increase in traffic volume leads to road collisions and accidents, which lead to high repair costs. Some accident victims report fake vehicle damage to extort money for repairs. There are criminal groups that stage accidents for this purpose; thus, these claims are very difficult to verify. Thus, it is not enough to verify the sustained damage only by comparing the geometric parameters of the impact traces. New, modern research methods with simulation programs need to be used in order to reconstruct the course of an accident. The SDC (Static Dynamic Characteristic method) provides the possibility of vehicle damage verification, according to this convention. However, simplified modelling with the use of simulation programs involves the necessity of identification of input parameters in order to reconstruct a collision and the vehicle’s post- collision movement. If the input parameters are not correct, the simulation results will also be incorrect, which will have a direct impact on the parties involved in potential legal proceedings, both civil and criminal. This study deals with the identification of the impact parameters and sensitivity of the simulation results to input data. Impact verification with the SDC method shows both a knowledge enhancement and a practical value. They can be used by experts, expert witnesses, computer programmers, researchers and students.

Opis:
Vehicle-bridge collision accidents often result in significant economic losses and negative social effects, with heavy trucks being the most destructive to bridge structures. Therefore, this study uses a high-precision finite element method to investigate the impact resistance of concrete bridge piers when subjected to heavy truck impact. The main conclusions of this paper are as follows: (1) When heavy trucks collide with bridge piers, two peak impact forces are generated due to engine and cargo collisions. The peak collision force generated by engine impact is 17.7% greater than that generated by cargo impact. (2) The damage to the bridge, when impacted by heavy trucks, is mainly concentrated on the affected pier. The primary damage characteristics of the bridge piers include punching shear damage at the impact point, tensile damage at the backside, and shear damage at the pier top. (3) The peak values of shear force and bending moment both appear at the bottom of the pier, and the combination of the two causes serious flexural-shear failure damage at the bottom of the pier. (4) The axial force is fluted along the pier height, and the axial force at the top and bottom of the pier is the largest, while the axial force at the middle section is relatively small. The instantaneous axial force of bridge pier will reach more than 2 times the axial force during operational period, seriously threatening the safety of bridge. Overall, this study provides valuable insights into the impact resistance of concrete bridge piers when subjected to heavy truck impact, which can help engineers and policymakers in designing more robust and safer bridges.

Opis:
A problem of car insurance frauds usually refers to reporting non-existent car crash circumstances to acquire the funds required for a car repair. However, the problem is not limited only to this kind of costs. Recently, numerous damage claims connected with spine trauma caused by rear-end collisions have been reported. These are the so-called whiplash injuries caused by a rear impact. Such damage is difficult to verify and hence a necessity to use more effective claim verification methods. An analysis of a collision in the SDC convention makes it possible to determine whether its circumstances were consistent with the reports of drivers involved in it. The aim of the analysis presented in this article has been to determine a possibility of using SRS-AIRBAG activation parameters to determine, with the SDC method, whether the circumstances of a collision reported were consistent with those responsible for a whiplash injury. The article provides an analysis of a series of rear-end collisions of vehicles moving in a column. The results have proven that the SDC procedure can be applied to verify the probability of a whiplash injury. With the above, this study is both academic and practical, and the results can provide benefits to vehicle collision researchers, experts, and students.
