Opis:
This paper focuses on the reconstruction of some migrants’ identities in the context of contemporary labour migration. The article is based on a study of temporary female labour migrants from western Ukraine in Poland and includes twelve semi-structured interviews with Ukrainian women who have an experience of work in Warsaw. The research of S. Castels and M.J. Miller as well as Polish scholar Z. Mach provide the theoretical and methodological framework of this paper. The essay discusses both the migration context and the linguistic, religion, professional, family, national and regional identities of the women in question. It demonstrates that the reconstruction of the temporary labour migrant identity is a complicated and multidimensional process (involving conflict and adaptation in the same time). In spite of many favourable factors female labour migrants are interested neither in the reconstruction of their personal identities, not the integration into the Polish society due to the perception of their migration as only a temporary activity aimed at money-making. Additionally, the precarious legal and labour status of respondents creates an obstacle for the smooth advancement of these processes.

Opis:
Identity is an extremely complex and subjective theme to discuss – especially when it comes to setting a fixed definition. This article examines the construction of identity through the lens of social constructionism and draws in several working definitions from various sociologists to purport the core of this article. The sociological concept will be applied on three different texts: Escape from Harem by Tanushree Podder (2013); The Poor Christ of Bomba by Mongo Beti (1971); and The Book of Night Women by Marlon James (2009). Focusing only on the protagonist from each text, we attempt to carry out the analysis of this paper by looking at the flux of identity within them. We argue that identity is not a fixed and permanent state of a character; instead it is constructed by social, political, economic, and personal experience. All the three protagonists, Zeenat, Denis, and Lilith experience specific identity fluctuation in their lives. As such, we will be looking at the psychological growth and changes in each character and determine whether or not his/her sense of self is reconstructed or deconstructed at the end of their journey to self-discovery.

Opis:
The article is based on Robert Kugelmann’s work, Psychology and Catholicism: Contested Boundaries. It examines the development of Catholic psychology as a history of defining boundaries within scientific empirical psychology from 1829 to the present. The author divides the historical period into three periods: One: Neoscholastic Rational Psychology (1829–1965); Two: After Vatican II Psychology (1965 to present); and Three: An Emerging Thomistic Rational Teleological Behavioral Psychology. The essay examines the development of Neoscholastic rational psychology as a response to modernist experimental psychology. The neoscholastic movement approached the new discipline of empirical, as opposed to rational, psychology with the firm conviction in the formulation of a meta-psychology, based on a Thomistic metaphysics that would allow for an eventual synthesis of rational and empirical psychology. However, a synthesis with empirical psychology never came to realization, mainly over the issue of the faculties of the soul as foundational for a science of human behavior. The author argues that, even to the present day, the best approach to entering into a trading zone (transitional genus) with the principles and methods of scientific psychology is by avoiding all expressions of past, present, and future introspective psychology and brain mentalism, and turning to a synthesis with teleological behavioral principles and Aristotelian-Thomistic faculties of the soul psychology.
