Opis:
The aim of this paper is to discuss a very initial stage of architectural design. To achieve that, the way architects work at the early phase of design task is taken into consideration. For the purpose of analysing the process, two groups of designers are distinguished, viz.: novice and familiar with digital media. A few experiments are described in order to reveal a process of creative thinking and, what is more, to point out a hybrid analogue-digital environment as a preferred setting to study and deal with a design problem. However, it is difficult to assign the act of creation itself to certain rules and methodologies since it seems to exist somewhere beyond – elusive and unpredictable.

In this paper, we investigate the effects for rotating the triangular core air hole arrangements of a hybrid design porous core fiber. The triangular core has been rotated in anticlockwise direction to evaluate the impact on different waveguide properties. Effective Material Loss (EML), confinement loss, bending loss, dispersion characteristics and fraction of power flow are calculated to determine the impacts for rotating the triangular core. The porous fiber represented here has a hybrid design in the core area which includes circular rings with central triangular air hole arrangement. The cladding of the investigated fiber has a hexagonal array of air hole distribution. For optimum parameters the reported hybrid porous core fiber shows a flat EML of ±0.000416 cm⁻¹ from 1.5 to 5 terahertz (THz) range and a near zero dispersion of 0.4±0.042 ps/THz/cm from 1.25 to 5.0 THz. Negligible confinement and bending losses are reported for this new type of hybrid porous core design. With improved concept of air hole distribution and exceptional waveguide properties, the reported porous core fiber can be considered as a vital forwarding step in this field of research.

The article discusses the role of the modern approach to the design of autonomous utility vehicles. The study has been exemplified by a currently designed multi-purpose hybrid engineer vehicle. The article covers the application of modern hybrid drive and the suspension allowing for the regulation of the tension wheel. The drive system used in the described vehicle is a serial type. In contrast to the conventional solutions used so far in a similar vehicle, this system eliminate heavy and difficult parts to produce (e.g., gears) which allows to significant reduction of a vehicle's weight. The suspension system is based on the classical concept - with a torsional shafts. A movable tension wheel is an innovative element, which has been used in this suspension system. When the wheel is in the lower position the area of pressure increased so the force exerted on the ground is less. This option is useful in difficult, muddy off-road conditions. The Volvo Company wants to apply similar capabilities in their prototype diggers. In the article, the importance of the external appearance of the vehicle has been considered as well. A removable cab allows the remote control of the vehicle at any time and the same has been provided as an example of a modern solution concerning the external appearance of the vehicle.

Architecture itself could be considered as a hybrid of engineering and beaux-arts. Nowadays there are many tools that can help architects develop and optimize their innovative concepts. This paper describes a hybrid design approach based on combination of traditional architectural design and computational design (Fig. 3) based on study program in Sopot College, Faculty of Architecture. The paper explores the field of cooperation and hybrid interaction between manual and automated methods of developing architectural concepts. The results show that student are eager to experiment with new methods of design. Moreover, the results they achieve in this way are far more innovative and complex. Knowledge of hybrid design methods may contribute to expansions of avant-garde architecture and research-based design methodology.

In this study, physical and functional properties of the cement composites containing ZnO, ZnO/lignin and lignin admixtures were investigated using Response Surface Methodology (RSM). The I-optimal design based on RSM was used to assess the influence of ZnO-based doping agent, of either commercial or synthetic origin, on cement composite production in the function of average compressive strength and cost. Polynomial mathematical models were developed by RSM confronting results from the experimental design. The accuracy and precision of the utilized models established by I-optimal design were tested using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The first stage of formulation optimization revealed that the use of commercially available ZnO-based admixture no. 4 (ZnO-SA, supplied by Sigma Aldrich) allowed to achieve the desired results, passing all the requirements, i.e., the best microbial purity combined with reasonable cost, followed by satisfactory physical properties. In the second stage of formulation optimization, the influence of implementing the hybrid materials, i.e., ZnO-SA mixed in different proportions with lignin was evaluated. RSM revealed that doping admixture no. 3, i.e., ZnO-SA/lignin (5:1), is the best candidate, which comprised augmented functional and physical properties of the fabricated cement composite. This component exhibited the best microbial purity as well as the lowest total pore volume, followed by satisfactory physical properties. Verification of the model findings indicated considerable agreement between the predicted and experimental values. From the findings, it was confirmed that a reasonable cost-performance balance for cement composites can be achieved using ZnO-SA and ZnO-SA/lignin (5:1).

Dynamic development in practically all fields of science and engineering has not passed over shipbuilding . In last years, engineers got to their use computer software which makes it possible to perform strength and hydrodynamic calculations as well as to visualize design projects in 3 D space [1-4]. At their disposal they have full spectrum of modern solutions associated with the use of advanced materials and technologies [5-7]. More and more attention is also paid to impact onto the natural environment [8,9]. Every new object must influence the environment as low as possible, beginning from building phase through its service life up to final utilization – such approach is called „green-shipping”. However , not only practical reasons are important . Clients , i.e. ship owners and passengers of ships paid more and more attention to image of floating units. During decision taking on that from whom a transport service has to be ordered , the most modern ships of an attractive image matching with place and time, are often taken into consideration. Such situation has become a basis for an idea of working out a concept of a new ferryboat for National Maritime Museum. As the ferry has to navigate in „the heart of the town”, then , apart from strictly marine and engineering aspects , an important factor of its designing is its expected image - a set of significant meanings and emotions written in architecture language. The new ferryboat , like its historical predecessors , will never leave urban water routes.

The paper concerns the design analysis of a hybrid gas turbine power plant with a fuel cell (stack). The aim of this work was to find the most favourable variant of the medium capacity (approximately 10 MW) hybrid system. In the article, computational analysis of two variants of such a system was carried out. The analysis made it possible to calculate the capacity, efficiency of both variants and other parameters like the flue gas temperature. The paper shows that such hybrid cycles can theoretically achieve extremely high efficiency over 60%. The most favourable one was selected for further detailed thermodynamic and flow calculations. As part of this calculation, a multi-stage axial compressor, axial turbine, fuel cell (stack) and regenerative heat exchanger were designed. Then an analysis of the profitability of the installation was carried out, which showed that the current state of development of this technology and its cost make the project unprofitable. For several years, however, tendencies of decreasing prices of fuel cells have been observed, which allows the conclusion that hybrid systems will start to be created. This may apply to both stationary and marine applications. Hybrid solutions related to electrical power transmission, including fuel cells, are real and very promising for smaller car ferries and shorter ferry routes.

The paper deals with concepts, design and realization of a small ecological city car. A small, electric car is anticipated to be a solution to city traffic problems. The future users of a city electric car have been defined. City car should be characterized by the following features: low cost of purchase and maintenance, high functionality, possibilities of movement in zero emission zone, large space and easy access to luggage compartment, simplicity of parking manoeuvres, possibilities of customizing a car body features. These features made this car a perfect means of transport for the elder and disabled. Three versions of a city car with different drive lines are considered. The same car body for each version is proposed. The car chassis is also the same in each version. The version l of city car is made. It is an L6e class car. This prototype allows carrying out some research on a new electric motor, new kind of batteries and working out the control units for cooperation between the electric motor and generator. In the paper the basic performances of the car are presented and its main parł the structure is shown. Features of the next version of small ecological city car are described as well as their advantages.

The paper presents three novel rotor design concepts for a three-phase electric controlled permanent magnet synchronous machine (ECPMS-machine) with hybrid excitation. The influence of magnets and flux-barriers arrangement on the magnetic field distribution and field-weakening characteristics of the machine is examined, based on a three-dimensional finite element analysis (3D-FEA). Moreover, a prototype rotor design based on a new rotor concept with a good field-weakening capability is presented in detail. Finally, the experimental results of no-load back electromotive force (back-EMF) waveforms and field-weakening characteristics versus a control coil current of the machine are reported.

Spur gears are the most well-known kind of gears used in hybrid vehicle’s power transmission. They have straight teeth, and are mounted on parallel shafts. In some cases, many spur gears are utilized without a moment's delay to make huge rigging decreases. In this paper how stress creates on a spur equip under various conditions and conditions and reenactments of a rigging system (two spur gears) is assessed by Ansys workbench. The article discusses the teaching methodology for a digital electronics course utilizing BASYS Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) boards (Digilent, Inc.), with a hybrid or blended classroom delivery method. The article outlines a methodology that combines the teaching of current digital circuit design technology with the use of a pedagogical approach to online delivery for a proportion of the course lectures. The FPGA boards by Digilent offer a modern PLD technology platform where beginners and more advanced practitioners alike may design and implement digital circuits with various operational capabilities. This means that the boards offer state-of-the art technology for computer engineering instructors to effectively introduce modern programmable memory technologies in the classroom. However, in light of the increased necessity for flexibility in college course delivery methods, the article also shows a successful method of material delivery that incorporates an online component. This aspect addresses the current expectations for greater course delivery flexibility and convenience due to the increasing number of adult students who need to work to support themselves and/or their families. Thus, the article offers an effective pedagogical approach to teaching current digital circuit analysis and design using a modern material delivery method.

Opis:
The inverse problem of textile material design (IPTMD) aims to determine textile materials with optimum thermal conductivities for the thickness designed in terms of the thermal comfort requirements of the wearer. In this paper, an IPTMD is presented on the basis of the physical nature of steady heat and moisture transfer in a human body-clothing-environment system. A globally convergent algorithm, the modified particle collision algorithm (MPCA), is proposed and its validity is verified. The MPCA is applied to solve the IPTMD for single-layer textile materials at low temperature. Numerical simulation results of the IPTMD proved the suitability of the IPTMD and effectiveness of the MPCA in solving complex global optimisation problems. The encouraging results indicate that the modelling method above and optimisation algorithm can be used for further applications.
Problem inwersyjny projektowania materiałów włókienniczych ma na celu określenie materiałów włókienniczych z optymalną przewodnością cieplną dla grubości zaprojektowanej z uwzględnieniem komfortu termicznego i wygody użytkownika. W pracy przedstawiono problem na podstawie stałego przepływu ciepła i wilgotności pomiędzy ciałem człowieka, odzieżą a środowiskiem zewnętrznym. Zaprezentowano i zweryfikowano prawidłowość algorytmu zbieżnego, algorytmu zderzenia cząstek modyfikowanych, który jest stosowany w celu rozwiązania problemu dla jednowarstwowych materiałów włókienniczych w niskich temperaturach. Wyniki symulacji numerycznych problemu dowodzą jego przydatności i skuteczności algorytmu w rozwiązywaniu złożonych problemów optymalizacji. Zachęcające rezultaty wskazują, że powyższy sposób modelowania i algorytm optymalizacji mogą być używane do różnych zastosowań.

Opis:
Barbotage reactors such as airlift reactors (ALR) and bubble column reactors (BCR) due to their two-phase flow are the subject of many studies. Their basic version is used for lifting, mixing, and aeration of liquids, while their hybrid version, supplemented with additional elements, can serve as a rector for transport, lifting, and aeration of liquids. The subject of the research were two design variants of a hybrid barbotage reactor differing in the position of the nozzle for circulation and aeration, both filled with a moving bed. Based on the previously obtained measurement results, a simple mathematical equation was proposed to describe the impact of the type of construction and filling the hybrid reactor with a moving bed on the oxygen concentration and mixing conditions as well as on the transport of liquids. It was found that the greatest impact on the transport of liquid in the hybrid barbotage reactor (HBR) had the location of the H-nozzle, and filling the reactor with a moving bed had the greatest impact on the oxygen conditions and mixing of the liquid in the case of the HBR reactor.
