Opis:
Analysis of the gait stability of a man moving along an even surface with a constant velocity is presented. The stability criteria applied to biped robots, namely: the Zero Moment Point (ZMP) and the Ground projection of the Center Of Mass (GCOM) have been employed in the investigations. The analysis has been carried out on the basis of measurement data obtained from the human gait recorded wit h a digital camera.
Artykuł przedstawia analizę stabilności chodu człowieka poruszającego się po równej poziomej powierzchni. W badaniach wykorzystano dwa kryteria stateczności: ZMP (Zero Moment Point) i GCOM (Ground projection of the Center Of Mass) stosowane w odniesieniu do robotów dwunożnych. Analizę przeprowadzono na podstawie zarejestrowanych za pomocą kamer cyfrowych danych dotyczących trajektorii wybranych punktów.

One of the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease is an abnormal gait cycle. Locomotion becomes slower, less sure, and gait very often leads to falls. This paper analyses the vertical component of the ground reaction force and pressure force for healthy subjects and those with Parkinson’s disease. The data used in the paper comes from the physionet.org website and includes the results of tests that were conducted with Ultraf lex Computer Dyno Graphy system Infronic insoles. The dataset contains recorded ground reaction forces during gait of 164 people, including 71 healthy people and 93 people with Parkinson’s disease at varying degrees of disease severity as determined by the Hoehn-Yahr scale. The analysis showed statistically significant differences (α ≤ 0.05) between the highest value and the local minimum of the vertical component of the ground reaction force. The course of the vertical component of the ground reaction force changed with increasing disease progression, characteristic gait phases disappeared, and the foot contacted the ground in a different way during the heel strike phase. This is due to the development of an abnormal gait pattern, which protects against falls and helps to maintain independence for longer. Gait testing and analysis of the vertical component of the ground reaction force can help to detect the disease earlier and therefore to implement treatment more quickly, resulting in a slower onset of symptoms.

Opis:
The aim of the study was to propose a relatively simple central pattern generator (CPG) model, which can be used to control a lower limb exoskeleton. The mentioned generator and the simulation model of the human gait were developed based on experimental observations of the healthy volunteer's gait recorded using a motion tracking system. In order to reproduce the correct movements of the exoskeleton segments, time series of angles in the joints corresponding to the hip and knee joints were calculated based on tracing the trajectories generated by the CPG and the inverse kinematic relations. The proposed model can be implemented to control the lower limb (extremity) exoskeleton and assist various types of gait abnormality in patients with different motor dysfunction by means of changing the parameters of the control system. The presented experimental data, the developed gait simulation model, and the results of numerical simulations can be treated as guidelines for further improvement of the proposed model and its application in the exoskeleton control system. Although the study is mainly focused on rehabilitation applications, the proposed model is general and can be used also for other purposes such as control of bipedal and multi-legged robots.

The paper presents an analysis concerning the influence of selected psychophysical parameters on the quality of human gait recognition. The following factors have been taken into account: body height (BH), body weight (BW), the emotional condition of the respondent, the physical condition of the respondent, previous injuries or dysfunctions of the locomotive system. The study was based on data measuring the ground reaction forces (GRF) among 179 participants (3 315 gait cycles). Based on the classification, some kind of confusion matrix were established. On the basis of the data included in the matrix, it was concluded that the wrong classification was most affected by the similar weight of two confused people. It was also noted, that people of the same gender and similar BH were confused most often. On the other hand, previous body injuries and dysfunctions of the motor system were the factors facilitating the recognition of people. The results obtained will allow for the design of more accurate biometric systems in the future.

Opis:
Data clustering is one of the most popular methods of data mining and cluster analysis. The goal of clustering algorithms is to partition a data set into a specific number of clusters for compressing or summarizing original values. There are a variety of clustering algorithms available in the related literature. However, the research on the clustering of data parametrized by unit quaternions, which are commonly used to represent 3D rotations, is limited. In this paper we present a quaternion clustering methodology including an algorithm proposal for quaternion based k-means along with quaternion clustering quality measures provided by an enhancement of known indices and an automated procedure of optimal cluster number selection. The validity of the proposed framework has been tested in experiments performed on generated and real data, including human gait sequences recorded using a motion capture technique.

In the paper a way of people identification, based on ground reaction forces during gait, is presented. The authors established that each individual has an unique gait pattern that can be described by quantitative parameters, calculated using measurements coming from the force plates. Fifteen volunteers took part in this study. Each person walked barefoot at least 100 times through 10-m-long walkway with the force plates built in. Determinants were calculated based on vertical and anterior-posterior components of the ground reaction force. The obtained parameters were used as an input matrix of the artificial neural network designed for identification of each person. Effectiveness of the recognition was assessed as root mean square error between expected and obtained output values. It was proved, that human identification based on presented determinants of the gait and artificial neural network is possible at a high level.

Measurement of human gait variation is important for security applications such as the indication of unexpected loading due to concealed weapons. To observe humans safely, unobtrusively, and without privacy issues, radar provides one method to detect abnormal activity without using images. In this paper we focus on modeling the characteristics of human walking parameters in order to determine signature differences that are distinguishable and to determine the variability of normal walking to be compared to armed or loaded walking. We extract micro-Doppler from motion-captured human gait models and verify the models with radar measurements. We then vary the model to determine the extent of normal micro-Doppler variation in multiple dimensions of human gait. We also characterize the ability of radar to determine gender and suggest that alternative views to the frontal view may be more discriminative.
