The paper presents the results of work leading to the construction of a spatial hybrid model based on finite element (FE) and Monte Carlo (MC) methods allowing the computer simulation of physical phenomena accompanying the steel sample testing at temperatures that are characteristic for soft-reduction process. The proposed solution includes local density variations at the level of mechanical solution (the incompressibility condition was replaced with the condition of mass conservation), and at the same time simulates the grain growth in a comprehensive resistance heating process combined with a local remelting followed by free/controlled cooling of the sample tested. Simulation of grain growth in the entire computing domain would not be possible without the support of GPU processors. There was a 59-fold increase in the computing speed on the GPU compared to single-threaded computing on the CPU. The study was complemented by examples of experimental and computer simulation results, showing the correctness of the adopted model assumptions.

Opis:
This study examines the effect of the additions of silica fume and super plasticizer on the mechanical performance of high performance concretes at high temperatures. The tested concretes are formulated with 5% silica fume and two dosages of super plasticizers in the ratio of (2%, 2.5%) the weight of cement after having been exposed to four maximum temperatures, 200 °C, 400 °C, 600 °C and 900 °C without intermediate level, for a ripening cycle 24 hours in total. The results obtained show that the mechanical resistance at 28 day increases with the degree of temperature compared to that measured at 20 °C. On the contrary, a clear decrease is observed between 600 °C and 900 °C. However, material composition seems to have great influence on the mechanical strength.

Opis:
The study focuses on the problem of determination of low-cycle fatigue properties for the chosen group of creep-resistant steels used in the power and chemical industries. It tries to find the parameter which would describe well the fatigue life and take into account mechanical loads and temperature. The results of LCF tests have been presented in the paper. New parameter P has been introduced. This parameter joins a plastic strain range, a stress range and temperature. The fatigue life has been predicted versus parameter P. The comparison of the predicted and observed values of fatigue life shows the agreement between these values. The method of fatigue life prediction formulated in this way is expected to describe the behavior of materials under thermo-mechanical fatigue.

The Lagrange test was conducted to investigate the shock ignition and growth of HMX-based polymer bonded explosives (PBXs) under different temperature conditions. In this study, three temperature conditions, 25 °C, 80 °C and 120 °C were used. The pressure history values along the direction of the detonation wave propagation were obtained and presented as the characteristics of the shock ignition and growth. Manganin piezoresistive pressure gauges were used to measure the pressure. The results showed that the distance to detonation was clearly reduced as the temperature was increased. A distance greater than 9 mm at 25 °C was changed to less than 3 mm at 120 °C. In order to understand this phenomenon in more detail, the Lee-Tarver ignition and growth model was employed to simulate the Lagrange test, and the simulated pressures were compared with the measured pressures. The results demonstrated that the intrinsic mechanism of the phenomenon was that the high temperature changed both the equation of state of the unreacted explosive and the chemical reaction rate. It was remarkable that the parameter R2 in the model was reduced from −0.05835 to −0.06338, and the parameter G1 in the model was increased from 1.3 to 2.12.

Opis:
Ductile irons of the type of Si-Mo are characterized by increased resistance to long-term influence of high temperatures and cyclic temperature changes. They are mainly used in castings of combustion engine exhaust piping and other castings utilized at temperatures of up to 850°C. The aim of the study is to verify the mechanical properties of non-alloyed cast iron EN CSN GJS 450, SiMo4-0.5 and SiMo5-1 ductile irons at temperatures of 700 to 800°C, and the extent of their superficial oxidation after longterm annealing at a temperature of 900°C. Via chemical microanalysis the composition of oxidation products in the surface layer was evaluated.

The paper presents a multi-scale mathematical model dedicated to a comprehensive simulation of resistance heating combined with the melting and controlled cooling of steel samples. Experiments in order to verify the formulated numerical model were performed using a Gleeble 3800 thermo-mechanical simulator. The model for the macro scale was based upon the solution of Fourier-Kirchhoff equation as regards predicting the distribution of temperature fields within the volume of the sample. The macro scale solution is complemented by a functional model generating voluminal heat sources, resulting from the electric current flowing through the sample. The model for the micro-scale, concerning the grain growth simulation, is based upon the probabilistic Monte Carlo algorithm, and on the minimization of the system energy. The model takes into account the forming mushy zone, where grains degrade at the melting stage – it is a unique feature of the micro-solution. The solution domains are coupled by the interpolation of node temperatures of the finite element mesh (the macro model) onto the Monte Carlo cells (micro model). The paper is complemented with examples of resistance heating results and macro- and micro-structural tests, along with test computations concerning the estimation of the range of zones with diverse dynamics of grain growth.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of higher temperatures on the photosynthesis of endosymbiotic Chlorella sp. of two Paramecium bursaria Ehrenberg 1831 strains originating from regions with a warmer and colder climate (Ardmore - USA and Kamchatka - Russia, respectively). After seven days of protozoa incubation at 18°C (control), 21°C, 24°C, 27°C, 30°C and 33°C, the chlorophyll a fluorescence measurements were carried out and fluorescence spectra were measured in blue-green and red light. As a result of the studies, a significant effect of higher temperature on the photosynthesis process of P. bursaria endosymbionts was observed. Weekly incubation at 33°C was lethal for both protozoan strains in comparison to the control temperature (18°C). The blue-green fluorescence spectra were characterised by marked peaks at 450 nm and 490 nm. Within the red light range, the peak was observed at about 690 nm with a lesser arm at 730 nm. Endosymbionts from Kamchatka were more sensitive to the temperature increase than algae from areas with relatively warm climates.
Celem niniejszej pracy było zbadanie wpływu podwyższonej temperatury na przebieg procesu fotosyntezy endosymbiontów z gatunku Chlorella sp. dwóch szczepów Paramecium bursaria Ehrenberg 1831, pocho-dzących z terenów o niskich i wysokich temperaturach powietrza (Ardmore – USA i Kamczatka – Rosja). Po 7 dniach inkubacji pierwotniaków w każdej z temperatur 18°C (kontola), 21°C, 24°C, 27°C, 30°C i 33°C przeprowadzono pomiary fuorescencji chloroflu a i wyznaczono widma emisji fuorescencji w zakresie niebiesko-zielonym i czerwonym.W wyniku przeprowadzonych badań zaobserwowano istotny wpływ podwyższonej temperatury na proces fotosyntezy endosymbiontów P. bursaria. Tygodniowa inkubacja w temperaturze 33°C była letalna dla obu szczepów pierwotniaka, w porównaniu z temperaturą kontrolną (18°C). Widma emisji fuorescencji niebiesko-zielonej charakteryzowały wyraźnymi pikami przy 450nm i 490 nm. W zakresie czerwonym pik zaobserwowano przy około 690 nm z mało wyraźnym ramieniem przy 730 nm. Endosymbionty szczepu pochodzącego z Kamczatki były bardziej wrażliwe na wzrost temperatury od glonów pochodzących z terenów o stosunkowo ciepłym klimacie

Opis:
The study provides an analysis of three trusses that differed only with respect to support. All trusses were analysed for normal and accidental design cases, latter under fire load. A standard fire curve was adopted, and it was assumed that all the elements were heated from all sides. Using the MES3D program, temperature increase in bars, values of displacements and those of axial forces were determined for all structures in the successive minutes of the fire. The state of stress and displacement in the successive minutes of fire was discussed.
Artykuł dotyczy analizy trzech kratownic, różniących się między sobą sposobem podparcia. Wszystkie kratownice zostały przeanalizowane w normalnej sytuacji projektowej oraz podczas pożaru. Zastosowano krzywą pożaru standardowego i założono, że wszystkie elementy są ogrzewane z każdej strony. W kolejnych minutach trwania pożaru obliczono wzrost temperatury w prętach kratownicy, przemieszczenia węzłów oraz siły osiowe. Do obliczeń wykorzystano program MES3D. Omówiono stan naprężeń i przemieszczeń w kolejnych minutach pożaru.
