Opis:
Workplace safety in furniture industry plants (selected aspects). The practical aim of the study was to define the safety of the working environment of persons employed in the furniture industry in the local labor market of the Opole Voivodeship based on selected aspects. For this purpose, data related to occupational hazards, causes of accidents at work and accident rates were used. The paper recommends a method of recognizing the working conditions, with particular emphasis on the work environment. An analysis of selected indicators shaping safety the work environment was performed. It has been found that despite the apparent improvements in this field, it is still on an unsatisfactory level.

Opis:
The article presents the element of occupational health and safety management in enterprises, with particular emphasis on the identification of occupational hazards. The factors that may be a source of occupational hazards have been classified and divided. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of occupational hazards on work safety in the opinion of employees of micro and small enterprises. The research was carried out using the proprietary questionnaire. The results were verified by means of a direct interview with elements of observation. The research was compared with the trends prevailing in the enterprises of the European Union countries according to the results of the research conducted by EU-OSHA. Polish respondents considered physical and psychophysical factors to be the main occupational hazards. The results turned out to be very similar to those presented by EU-OSHA in its publicly available reports. The basic principle of occupational health and safety management, i.e. identification of occupational hazards, is reliability and correctness. Identification of occupational hazards gives the opportunity to take correct and effective corrective and preventive actions reducing occupational risk, for example through the effective use of personal protective equipment, or a more detailed treatment of both introductory and instructional training. The article also highlights the migration of individual occupational hazards, which depends on many factors, both professional and nonprofessional.

Opis:
The impact of wind power plants on the environmental components is assessed taking into account a number of their parameters, in particular the technical characteristics of wind turbines, the characteristics of networks, engineering and other structures. To do this the life cycle of the wind power plants is described taking into account (by way of inventory) all the necessary materials and resources. Waste management scenarios have been developed, the use of which will make it possible to reduce the harmful impact on the environment. Based on the inventory and input data on the wind farm under study, a diagram is generated - a tree of life cycle processes of the wind power plant - to determine the potential environmental impacts. A list of impact categories that represent the load on the environment caused by the wind power plant is defined; also, the relative contribution of harmful factors is determined for each category, taking into account possible scenarios of waste management. Ecological profiles have been built for all potential impacts on the environment. After normalisation and determination of significance, individual estimates of all indicators and their distribution in three categories of lesions were obtained: human health, ecosystem quality and resources, as well as four stages of the wind farm life cycle: production, dismantling and disposal, operation, transportation and installation. The obtained profiles made it possible to determine individual indicators and eco-indicators, expressed in eco-points that characterise the wind farm under study.

Opis:
Purpose: The choice of preventive measures and labour protection equipment should be justified taking into account the occupational risk. For objective reasons, existing approaches do not provide an opportunity to justify the choice of the necessary measures, which best reduce the occupational risk level. Consequently, an effective methodological approach to justify preventive measures is required, since the level of risk in mining enterprises is still high, especially in developing countries and countries with weak economies. The current research is devoted to solving this urgent scientific problem. Design/methodology/approach: Construction of mathematical models based on accumulated statistical data on the values of production factors using polynomial regression, which is justified by the simplicity of computational algorithms and the clarity of the results obtained. Findings: On the example of the Ukrainian mining industry, it was found that to reduce occupational risk; the most effective is to change the operating mode of the equipment and rational planning of working hours, but not measures to reduce the dust concentration. Research limitations/implications: The study is focused on the mining industry; a methodological approach and a mathematical model are proposed for specific working conditions at Ukrainian mining industry. Practical implications: The proposed approach makes it possible, based on statistical data, to quickly and reliably select the most effective measures to reduce the industrial risk level. Originality/value: A feature of the proposed approach to reducing industrial risk is a comprehensive accounting of data on factors affecting occupational risk, the construction of mathematical models and the use of modelling results when planning measures to improve working conditions.

Opis:
The subject of this publication is to assess the exposure of the water jet operator to the noise hazard. The publication presents basic information about noise in the work environment. Next, the procedure of noise measurement in the work environment was discussed and the results of tests carried out at the water jet operator's station for three basic activities were presented, ie: (1) plotter support, supervision of the cutting process, loading and receiving material, (2) auxiliary, transport and cleaning, (3) computer service, keeping documentation, hygienic and social break. The noise level test included the determination of: the maximum sound level A LAmax the peak sound level C LCpeak, the noise exposure level related to the 8-hour work day LEX,8h. Based on the obtained measurement results, it can be stated that the exposure to noise at the station of the waterjet operator is at an acceptable level.

Opis:
The hair content of arsenic and lead of residents of Cracow, an agglomeration with nearly one -million population, was determined and compared to those of inhabitants of Lubasz (a village with around 3,200 population in central Poland). The sample material (composed of scalp hair samples) was collected in July and August of 2014. The residents who agreed to participate in the test had to be over eighteen years old and in the case of Cracow have been living there for at least two years. The maximum values reached 0.278 mg kg-1 arsenic and 31.7 mg kg-1 lead, and those of lead were determined in the samples collected in Lubasz. The highest mean content of arsenic (0.077 mg kg-1) was obtained for residents of Dębniki, a district of Cracow. The impact of the quality of the environment in which the tested persons lived as well as other selected factors that can affect their hair arsenic and lead content (for example: gender, age, state of health, work place, type of food, smoking, drinking) was assessed. The results have confirmed the general knowledge that a proper diet and a clean, unaffected environment are basic factors minimizing the adverse impact of arsenic and lead on human beings. The factors whose influence on the hair content of arsenic and lead were considered are: the place of residence, occupational exposure, sex, age, diet, alcohol consumption and hair colour. Due to the small number of samples that have been examined this is a pilot study.
