When grinding high demands are usually placed on the geometrical tolerances of the workpiece surface. For this reason, the spindles of the grinding machines are normally designed with requirements for a minimum position change of the grinding disks due to external forces and bending moments. The design theory of these spindles is relatively well elaborated, as it represents the most frequently used solution in practice. However, there are also cases where it is necessary to grind some hard-to-reach areas, using a great ejection of the spindle. In these cases, it is necessary to reassess the required geometrical tolerances with regard to its necessity to comply with the minimal changes in the position of the grinding discs due to the great ejection. Where it is necessary to maintain high geometrical tolerances, it is necessary to ensure a greater rigidity of the spindle. This rigidity is usually improved by increasing its diameter. By doing this we also increase the weight of the spindle that is heavily ejected, and thus its deformation can occur due to gravity forces. That is why it is necessary to analyse the deflection of the spindle depending on its ejection in the course of its design. In the case we increase the diameter of the grinder spindle the possible applicable grinding disc diameter decreases, due to the growing size of its housing. Any grinding of hard-to-reach surfaces is therefore done in particular to improve the quality of the surface with low requirements on the geometrical tolerances. This article deals with the design patterns for a spindle used in axial grinding for inner rotating surfaces. The article contains a spindle design solution and an analysis of its deflections, depending on its ejection, and the size of the passive forces.

Opis:
Monitoring the operation of machine tools, such as grinders used for jet-engine turbine blades is vital for demanded product quality and economic expenses associated with defected products and production stoppages. In the technological process of grinding, even wear of tools does not always occur, and machine tools definitely work in non-stationary conditions. Self-induced vibrations are often observed. Therefore monitoring system of module structure was designed, dedicated to non-stationary signal processing. The system is composed of modules for recording and preliminary hardware signal processing, database servers and user's terminals.
Monitorowanie obrabiarek takich jak szlifierki łopatek silników lotniczych ma szczególne znaczenie ze względu na wymaganą jakość produktu, jak również koszty ekonomiczne związane z wytwarzaniem braków oraz przestojów produkcyjnych. Podczas procesu technologicznego szlifowania następuje nie zawsze równomierne zużycie narzędzi, a obrabiarki pracują w warunkach niestacjonarnych. Często występują również drgania samowzbudne. Dlatego stworzono system monitorowania, dedykowany przetwarzaniu sygnałów niestacjonarnych o modułowej budowie. Składa się on z urządzeń do rejestracji i wstępnego sprzętowego przetwarzania sygnałów pomiarowych, serwerów bazy danych i terminali użytkowników.

The issues of efficiency improvement of manufacturing crankshafts in order to ensure their reliability and performance criteria are the priorities in modern production of internal combustion engines. Using the capabilities of modern special grinding machines can improve the quality of machining and obtain the necessary running characteristics of crankshafts. In work the questions connected with development of a method of calculation of rigidity of crankshafts for increase of accuracy of their machining, reliability and performance criteria’s are considered. Based on the proposed methodology, numerical calculations have performed and the possibility of determining the deflections and crankshafts rigidity in any section have been justified. The original construction of the following grinding steady rest for CNC grinding machines specified for machining the crankshaft main bearing journal and connecting rod journal is proposed. The construction design of the device allows for compensating the influence of the cutting force on the elastic strain of the part, depending on the change in its rigidity. The practical value of the research includes in develop recommendations for determining the optimal parameters for the round infeed grinding cycle of the crank pins from the point of view of productivity and accuracy.

Opis:
One of the important and still current problems occurring in the fish processing industry is the intensive wear of the cutting surface of industrial cutting blades used to separate the fish raw material. In the paper, the proposes aproprietary solution to the above problem consisting in the regeneration of worn surfaces realized in the process of precise grinding by the use of a prototype 5-axis CNC grinding machine was presented. The obtained machining results were verified, among others on the basis of measurements of values of the cutting edges inclination angles and analysis of values of selected surface roughness parameters. The proposed solution along with the developed methodology can be an interesting alternative to typical ways of renewing the cutting ability of cutting tools in applications from the fish processing industry.

The main purpose of processing of tough-to-machine materials is improving of cutting process of steels with different physicochemical properties and alloying by means of various chemical elements in combination with heat treatment. Producing of high quality surface layers depends on properties of material used to make details, that is why reasons of tough machining were identified: influence of chemical composition and resulting structure. The studies of grinding of tough-to-machine materials were undertaken by means of grinding wheels made from synthetic diamonds as they are most resistant and highly-productive. Based on the studies recommendations for using of characteristics of grinding wheels and tough-to machine steel grades are given. Research on heat processes during grinding allows us to determine patterns showing how cutting speed, detail motion speed, area and action period of contact influence temperature and speed of heat processes in surface layers as well as depth of heating. These patterns also give the chance to show interrelation between temperature and rate of heating and cooling. This gives an opportunity to predict state of structure of surface layer of details made of tough-to-machine steels under different machining conditions reasonably.

Opis:
Chatter in machining processes is strong dependent on the dynamic compliance behaviour of the machine tool and workpiece. The critical cutting depth where chatter occurs is in inverse proportion to the absolute value of the negative real part of the complex dynamic compliance response function of the machine tool. Therefore, while designing a machine tool, its dynamic behaviour should be investigated and optimized, e.g. by using the finite element method. If further design optimization are not possible, active damping system might help avoiding chatter of the machine tool. Active damping systems can compensate the dynamic displacements between tool centre point of the machine tool and workpiece by applying dynamically correlated external energ (e.g. compensation forces) onto the machine structure. Next to an explanation of the general idea and systemizatio of active damping systems, this paper gives examples of recent research activities in the field of active damping systems for machine tools of the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering (WZL) of Aachen University, Germany. The main challenges while designing active damping systems for machine tools are carved out.

Opis:
Raw materials produced in large quantities are ground in ball, vibratory and stirred ball mills. In mills, the working parts are grinding balls. During grinding, grinding balls wear, change their diameter and lose their shape. The effect of this is the unfavourable change in the grinding balls parameters, which results in deterioration of the technological conditions of the milling process. Relevant parameters of the grinding balls set are restored during maintenance shutdowns. Grinding balls are sorted into appropriate size classes; grinding balls that are not suitable for further use are rejected, and then a set of grinding balls with appropriate parameters is used again. The time needed to prepare the required set depends mainly on the sorting time. To reduce this time, appropriate grinding balls sorting machines are used. The paper presents major problems associated with the grinding balls sorting process, a comparison of modern types of grinding balls sorting machines, a description of their construction and technological parameters.
