Opis:
The settlement established under German law in Chełmno Land in the 13th century, the resultant changes in the structure of agriculture and land cultivation techniques, and the growing demand on wood as timber, fuel and raw materials for crafts, all combined to contribute to the significant deforestation of the territory. The extent of this deforestation remains conjectural. The purpose in creating a model of forest area in 13th-century Chełmno Land was to attempt to reconstruct it and determine its size and, consequently, to verify hypotheses concerning the scale and the ultimate end of deforestation in the research area. The spatial model is based on published historical and archaeological data relating to selected components of the geographical environment that pertain to the forest area. A retrogressive method combined with Multi-Criterion Evaluation (MCE) was used to build a forest area model. The basic platform for collecting, analysing and visualising spatial data was the geographic information system (GIS). The presented estimates indicate that the forest area of Chełmno Land in the 13th century was larger than had previously been assumed, at about 20–25% of the entire territory.

Opis:
The paper presents the results of research on the construction and evaluation of the forecast of the economic phenomenon in the future time period on the example of roundwood production in Poland. The process of building an econometric model as a linear function is illustrated in this paper. The trend function was verified and the convergence coefficient was calculated. The point and the interval forecast was constructed. On the basis of the results of studies the forecast accuracy was evaluated and a number of recommendations were presented. The recommendations regard the use of research results for decision-making and the needs of the material economy.

Opis:
With issues of high timber demand and illegal logging in the forest zones of Kyrgyzstan, agroforestry may serve as a viable option for rectification. Yields of timber and expected income from the most popular tree species are in most cases lacking. The goal of this study is to evaluate the timber yields and non-timber forest product from Ulmus, Poplar, Acacia and Juglans tree species in Kyrgyzstan. More focus was allocated to Poplar as this is one of the most common and preferred tree species in Kyrgyzstan. A sample size of 420 trees was recorded from 18 stands with 20 trees measured in each stand with the exception of Juglans which were 6 stands with 9-17 trees each The study estimated (i) tree volume using allometric parameters (ii) age-biomass relationship (iii) Factual Branch Analysis model to estimate the above ground biomass of the different tree segments (iii) revenue deduction and NPV of Poplar trees and (iv) biological rotation Age to determine the suitable age for Poplar harvesting. The findings show that NPV is highest at 10 years for Poplar when it is being considered for fast-growing timber. The biological rotation age was, however, higher at around 17 years. Site-specific age-biomass model appears to be suitable for estimating tree biomass since the tree allometry was found to differ significantly between studied stands even with similar age ranges. The developed relationship and tree database can adequately be applied to estimate tree volume and biomass in similar site conditions in the studied region.
