Opis:
The current research work presents an investigation into use of the fitting coefficients resulting from the cubic curve fitting of the torque transducer calibration results in one direction to calculate the actual torque in the other torque direction with two methods: one is direct substitution with the nominal torque which gives a propagated linear relative interpolation error and the other is changing the sign of the second coefficient in the cubic function when using in the other torque direction. This proposed modification improves the absolute relative interpolation error by 5 to 16 times in the clockwise and counterclockwise directions based on the torque transducer’s classification.

Opis:
Two-particle correlation functions produced in heavy-ion collisions with small relative velocities provide unique space-time information about the system. In order to extract this information, a fitting procedure must be applied. In this work we describe the software main purpose of which is to provide a way to fit arbitrary two-particle correlation functions, using a complete knowledge of the CorrFit corresponding interaction.

Opis:
The aim of this study was to investigate the curve fitting and model selection problem of the torque–velocity relationship of elbow flexors and extensors in untrained females. The second goal was to determine the optimal models in different function classes and the best, among the optimal ones. Lastly, test the best models to predict the torque were tested. Methods: Using the polynomials (second – fourth degree) and Boltzmann sigmoid functions, and a different presentation of data points (averages, a point cloud, etc.), we determined the optimal models by both error criteria: minimum residual sum of squares and minimum of the maximal absolute residue. To assess the best models, we applied Akaike and Bayesian information criteria, Hausdorff distance and the minimum of the smallest maximal absolute residue and the predictive torque–velocity relationships of the best models with torque values, calculated beyond the experimental velocity interval. Results: The application of different error and model selection criteria showed that the best models in the majority of cases were polynomials of fourth degree, with some exceptions from second and third degree. The criteria values for the optimal Boltzmann sigmoids were very close to those of the best polynomial models. However, the predicted torque–velocity relationships had physiological behavior only in Boltzmann’s sigmoid functions, and their parameters had a clear interpretation. Conclusion: The results obtained suggest that the Boltzmann sigmoid functions are suitable for modeling and predicting of the torque–velocity relationship of elbow flexors and extensors in untrained females, as compared to polynomials, and their curves are physiologically relevant.

Opis:
Real-time mimicking of human facial movement on a 3D head model is a challenge which has attracted attention of many researchers. In this research work we propose a new method for enhancing the capturing of the shape of lips. We present an automatic lip movement tracking method which employs a cosine function to interpolate between extracted lip features in order to make the detection more accurate. In order to test the proposed method, mimicking lip movements of a speaker on a 3D head model is studied. Microsoft Kinect II is used in order to capture videos and both RGB and depth information are used to locate the mouth of a speaker followed by fitting a cosine function in order to track the changes of the features extracted from the lips.

Opis:
The wind energy conversion systems (WECS) suffer from an intermittent nature of source (wind) and the resulting disparity between power generation and electricity demand. Thus, WECS are required to be operated at maximum power point (MPP). This research paper addresses a sophisticated MPP tracking (MPPT) strategy to ensure optimum (maximum) power out of the WECS despite environmental (wind) variations. This study considers a WECS (fixed pitch, 3KW, variable speed) coupled with a permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) and proposes three sliding mode control (SMC) based MPPT schemes, a conventional first order SMC (FOSMC), an integral back-stepping-based SMC (IBSMC) and a super-twisting reachability-based SMC, for maximizing the power output. However, the efficacy of MPPT/control schemes rely on availability of system parameters especially, uncertain/nonlinear dynamics and aerodynamic terms, which are not commonly accessible in practice. As a remedy, an off-line artificial function-fitting neural network (ANN) based on Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm is employed to enhance the performance and robustness of MPPT/control scheme by effectively imitating the uncertain/nonlinear drift terms in the control input pathways. Furthermore, the speed and missing derivative of a generator shaft are determined using a high-gain observer (HGO). Finally, a comparison is made among the stated strategies subjected to stochastic and deterministic wind speed profiles. Extensive MATLAB/Simulink simulations assess the effectiveness of the suggested approaches.
