Opis:
This work considers a mathematical model that describes quasistatic evolution of an elastic 2D bar that may come in frictional contact with a deformable foundation. We present the model and some of its underlying assumptions. In particular, the novelty in the model is that both vertical and horizontal motions are taken into account, which makes it especially useful when frictional contact is concerned. Contact is described with the normal compliance condition and friction with the Coulomb law of dry friction. We introduce a hybrid variational formulation of the problem and a numerical discretization based on a uniform time step and the finite element method in space. The numerical algorithm has been implemented, and we present computer simulations that illustrate the mechanical behavior of the system with emphasis on frictional aspects of the problem.

Opis:
In this paper we derive a priori error estimates for linear-quadratic elliptic optimal control problems with finite dimensional control space and state constraints in the whole domain, which can be written as semi-infinite optimization problems. Numerical experiments are conducted to ilustrate our theory.

Opis:
A new numerical model of gas filtration in a porous medium is proposed and investigated. Gas filtration is modeled with a nonlinear differential equation in partial derivatives. Methods of solving the equation are discussed. A computer experiment basing on real-experiment-extracted input physical and geometrical parameters is performed and its results are analyzed. The received results agree well with the corresponding experimental data.

Opis:
Finite Element Method (FEM) called Finite Element Analysis is a tool for computer-aided engineering and analysis. It is used to solve problems related to changes in the geometry of the structure as a result of external factors. FEM is used to model engineering processes where real objects are converted to discrete models. Finite Element Method uses a method of obtaining approximate solutions by approximation of partial differential equations. The process of testing and mathematical computation model is described by the equations function of the position and time for the nodes. The development of individual models and their groups and definitions of boundary conditions are carried out using computer programs for FEM.

Opis:
This paper presents an application of the grid convergence index (GCI) concept based on the Richardson extrapolation to a selected simple problem of a cantilever beam loaded with vertical forces at the tip end. The GCI method, popular in computational fluid dynamics, has been recently recommended for finite element (FE) applications in solid and structural mechanics. Based on the results obtained usually for three meshes, the GCI method enables one to determine, in an objective manner, the order of convergence to estimate the asymptotic solution and the bounds for discretization error. The example shows that the characteristics of the convergence depend on the selection of the quantity of interest, which can be local or a global functional such as the deflection considered here. The results differ for different FE formulations, and the difference is bigger when the nonlinearities (e.g., due to plastic response) are taken into account.
