    The literature is undisputed regarding the impact of mental health on public health, and there has been an increase in the use of primary healthcare, in particular, the consultations of general practitioners (GPs), with issues at this level. In the literature on the subject, the psychological intervention has been indicated as a positive factor in reversing this trend, and it is in this context that the present study was developed. We intend to explore the differences in the number of GP consultations prior to and after the psychology consultation in a Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC). To this end, data from 845 healthcare center users were collected between June 2004 and September 2014. Student’s t-test and mixed analysis of variance (ANOVA) was performed. The results point out a decrease in the number of GP consultations in the period subsequent to the first psychological consultation. We discuss that psychological intervention seems to have a positive effect, not only in improving the mental health of the population but also in the containment of costs in the health sector. The importance of the role of psychology in PHC was assumed.

    Background: Patients often seek out the help of general practitioners for problems that need a holistic, biopsychosocial approach. Having a psychologist present to support the GP in treatment allows for a more complete response to the patient’s distress, which is aided by the integration of the two specialists’ areas of expertise. Aim of the study: The aims of the study were to ensure all patients had direct access to a psychologist during treatment, even if they had not put in a specific request for one, to take care of accidental crises in real time, to reduce spending on inappropriate pharmaceutical prescriptions and diagnostic examinations, and to facilitate health promotion. Material and methods: The experiment took place between January 2014 and December 2015, in Pordenone, Italy. The psychologist was present in the GP practice every Thursday. The psychologist was present to provide consultation for each person who went to the GP practice for treatment. The study also explored the significance of any request, the psychological framework of the observed situations, and included an additional meeting with the psychologist in the GP practice, for individual interviews. Results: Of about 1,300 consultations with both the psychologist and GP present, the majority of the patients accepted the psychologist’s presence favorably. The most frequent source of discomfort for patients related to the grieving process during separation from people to whom the individual has a strong emotional attachment. 30 patients (6 males, 24 females) took part in individual follow-up meetings, 5 abandoned the project, 21 completed the full series of meetings, and 4 were sent to a mental health facility. Because of this holistic approach, spending on medical investigations was reduced by 6%, and the cost of pharmaceutical expenditure decreased by 10%. Conclusions: The joint medico-psychological treatment prevented, even at early stages, the appearance of somatic and psychic symptoms. This study has positively promoted health and well-being and shown that this type of treatment can help to limit expenses for pharmaceutical prescriptions and specialist diagnostic examinations.

    EURIPA (European Rural and Isolated Practitioners Association) is a regional rural health network, which was founded by family doctors to address the health and well-being needs of rural communities, on one hand, and the practitioners’ needs across Europe, on the other. EURIPA began its activity in 1995 with a small group of family doctors from across Europe, and in 1997 the structure was formalised into that of EURIPA today. EURIPA was initially recognized by WONCA Europe as a special inter- est group and subsequently as a representative network for rural family doctors across Europe. Now, it actively participates in WONCA Europe meetings and their annual conferences. The constitution was revised in 1997 when the International Advisory Board was created to support the work of EURIPA and its Executive Committee. EURIPA has worked hard to raise the profle of rural general practice, from its frst research project in 1997, to the series of Annual Rural Health Forums, which started in 2010. These forums have focussed on quality, education and research with the 5th Forum taking place in September 2014 focussing on policy engagement. EURIPA uses social media to engage its membership and publishes regular newsletters - “Grapevine”, as well as encourages rural GPs to publish in the European Section of the Journal of Rural and Remote Health.
    EURIPA (Europejskie Stowarzyszenie Lekarzy z Terenów Wiejskich i Izolowanych) jest stowarzyszeniem udzielającym pomocy lekarskiej na terenach wiejskich, które zostało założone przez lekarzy rodzinnych, aby wyjść naprzeciw potrzebom zdrowotnym ludzi mieszkających na tych terenach z jednej strony, i potrzebom lekarzy z calej Europy, z drugiej strony. EURIPA zapoczątkowała swoją działalność w 1995 roku licząc jedynie kilku lekarzy z całej Europy, po to aby w 1997 roku sformalizować swoją strukturę do tej, która istnieje dzisiaj. EURIPA została początkowo uznana przez WONCA Europe (World Organization of National Colleges, Academies and Academic Associations of General Practitioners/Family Physicians) jako grupa tematyczna, a następnie jako stowarzyszenie lekarzy wiejskich w Europie. Dzisiaj, stowarzyszenie aktywnie uczestniczy w spotkaniach i corocznych konferencjach WONCA Europe. W 1997 roku stowarzyszenie ustanowiło swoją konstytucję i powołało Międzynarodową Radę Doradczą, aby wspierać swoją działalność oraz Zarząd. EURIPA pracuje bardzo intensywnie, aby podnieść jakość wiejskiej opieki medycznej, począwszy od swojego pierwszego projektu w 1997 roku do po coroczne Forum Zdrowia Wiejskiego, które miało swój początek w 2010 roku. Fora te dotyczyły głównie jakości, edukacji i badań w medycynie rodzinnej. Ostatnie z nich, które odbyło się we wrześniu tego roku dotyczyło zaangażowania w politykę działalności stowarzyszenia. EURIPA wykorzystuje media społeczne, aby angażować swoich członków i publikuje biuletyn informacyjny zatytułowany – „Grapevine”. Stowarzyszenie zachęca również wiejskich lekarzy rodzinnych do publikowania swoich artykułów w europejskim dziale czasopisma „Journal of Rural and Remote Health”.

    Veterinary formulas were probably collected and written down by the Ostrowski family of Maluszyn. Written in four scripts on several sheets of paper, they are a valuable source of information on the treatment of animals, including, in particular, horse diseases (coughing, heaves (broken wind), strangles, glanders, etc.), as well as diseases of horned cattle (Equine infectious anemia (EIA – swamp fever), spleen gangrene, carbuncle and plague) and finally, domestic pig diseases (pharyngitis, palatitis, buttocks gangrene, dizziness, smallpox, leprosy, etc.). A valuable source of knowledge for the author of the article turned out to be also the first script entitled „Veterinary medicine of 7 October 1825”. It contains a range of guidelines on how to raise and care for animals. On the other pages of the scripts one can find additional notes on veterinary medicine, medicinal formulas for medicineseye problems, a list of plants for the first aid kit as well as advice on how to behave during the treatment of convulsions. The Ostrowski family of Maluszyn was an example to follow during the capitalist transformation in Polish agriculture. It was not without significance to collect information and write it down precisely in scripts, stored in Maluszyn library carefully. Their methods of animal breeding and care stood for were a model to follow for other landed estates.
    Przepisy weterynaryjne zostały prawdopodobnie zebrane i spisane przez rodzinę Ostrowskich z Maluszyna. Przepisy weterynaryjne – zapisane w czterech skryptach na kilkunastu kartkach – stanowią cenne źródło informacji dotyczące leczenia zwierząt, a w tym w szczególności opisane są choroby koni (o kaszlu, dychawicy, zołzach, nosaciźnie itd.), a także o chorobach bydła rogatego (o gorączkach z bagnisk, gangrenie śledziony, karbunkule i zarazach) i w końcu trzody chlewnej (o zapaleniu gardła, chorobie podniebieniowej, gangrenie pośladków, zawrotach, ospie, trądzie itp.). Cennym źródłem wiedzy dla Autorki artykułu okazał się również skrypt pierwszy pt. Weterynaria z 7 października 1825 r. Zawiera on szereg porad dotyczących wychowania i opieki nad zwierzętami. Na pozostałych kartkach skryptów można odnaleźć dodatkowe notatki z zakresu weterynarii, przepisy dla oczów, spis roślin do apteczki domowej, jak również porady dotyczące zachowania w czasie kuracji na konwulsje. Domena Ostrowskich z Maluszyna stanowiła wzór przemian kapitalistycznych w polskim rolnictwie. Nie bez znaczenia było zbieranie informacji i dokładne spisywanie ich w skryptach, pieczołowicie przechowywanych w bibliotece maluszyńskiej. Hodowla zwierząt i dbałość o nie stanowiła wzór do naśladowania dla innych majątków ziemskich.

    The problem of transsexualism is often marginalised both in medical and psychological practice. This results in mental and physical self-injuries, as well as suicide attempts and suicides of patients. Early diagnosis and medical assistance may significantly prevent it. However, for this to be possible, medical personnel needs to possess adequate knowledge of the diagnosis, treatment and management of patients affected by this affliction. The aim of the study is an attempt to verify the knowledge of the subject of transsexualism of family doctors and residents. To this end, 90 questionnaires, correctly completed by these doctors, were analysed. All the questions were meant to verify the knowledge of the diagnosis and treatment of transsexualism. The obtained results led to the following conclusions: 1. All the respondents confirmed the lack of sufficient knowledge of transsexualism and the need to deepen it. 2. The concepts of transsexualism, transvestitism, transgenderism, crossdressing, were often confused by respondents and wrongly regarded as synonyms. 3. It is necessary to identify the problem at an early stage and to provide these patients with the assistance of interdisciplinary teams.
    Problem transseksualizmu jest często traktowany marginalnie zarówno w praktyce lekarskiej, jak i psychologicznej. Skutki takiego postępowania prowadzą do samookaleczeń psychicznych i fizycznych, a także prób i samobójstw pacjen-tów. Postawione odpowiednio wcześnie rozpoznanie oraz pomoc lekarska mogą w dużej mierze zapobiec tym zjawi-skom. Aby jednak było to możliwe, kadra medyczna powinna posiadać odpowiednią wiedzę odnośnie do diagnostyki, leczenia i prowadzenia pacjentów dotkniętych tym schorzeniem. Celem pracy jest próba weryfikacji wiedzy na temat transseksualizmu lekarzy rodzinnych i lekarzy rezydentów. W tym celu poddano analizie 90 prawidłowo wypełnionych ankiet przez tych lekarzy. Pytania w ankiecie zostały skonstruowane pod kątem wiedzy na temat diagnostyki i leczenia transseksualizmu. Otrzymane wyniki pozwoliły na sformułowanie następujących wniosków: 1. Wszyscy ankietowani potwierdzili brak wystarczającej wiedzy na temat transseksualizmu i potrzebę jej pogłębienia. 2. Pojęcia transseksualizmu, transwestytyzmu, transgenderyzmu, crossdressingu były często mylone przez osoby wypeł-niające ankietę i traktowane błędnie jako synonimy. 3. Istnieje konieczność wczesnej identyfikacji problemu i objęcie tych pacjentów opieką interdyscyplinarnych zespołów.
