Opis:
In this article the knowledge-based control approach will be proposed for nonlinear systems. Firstly some basic concepts from the artificial intelligence will be defined, then the expert system design process will be introduced and finally a practical example will be discussed. The principle of this method is to support the controller with the human-like reasoning to determine the appropriate control mode and to estimate unknown parameters. Note that this is the heuristic approach, hence neither optimal steering, nor stability is guaranteed.

This article presents possible applications and a methodology of creating an expert system for the evaluation of sailing ship safety in a restricted area that may be utilized by vessel traffic service (VTS) centres. Problems of acquisition of navigators’ knowledge relating to the evaluation of moving ship safety are discussed. The knowledge acquired has been implemented in an expert system with the NEXPERT OBJECT program – a tool of the shell type for building expert systems. Possible applications of this type of systems in VTS centres are indicated.

Two aspects of the system are related: enrichment of its information and knowledge resources and changes in architecture, both oriented towards improvement of its applicability. The reported stage of development of INFOCAST is characterized by a close integration of its data and knowledge bases by means of the agent-based technology. Due to decentralization, the knowledge and information can be used not only in research and design activities, but also in the exploitation of technological processes.

Opis:
Approximately 50 to 60 percent of the more than five million stroke survivors are moderately or minimally impaired, and may greatly benefit from rehabilitation. There is a strong need for cost-effective, long-term rehabilitation solutions, which require the therapists to provide repetitive movements to the affected limb. This is a suitable task for specialized robotic devices; however, with the few commercially available robots, the therapists are required to spend a considerable amount of time programming the robot, monitoring the patients, analyzing the data from the robot, and assessing the progress of the patients. This paper focuses on the design, development, and clinically testing an expert systembased post-stroke robotic rehabilitation system for hemiparetic arm. The results suggest that it is not necessary for a therapist to continuously monitor a stroke patient during robotic training. Given the proper intelligent tools for a rehabilitation robot, cost-effective long-term therapy can be delivered with minimal supervision.

Despite of the always growing attention to safety related topics, the enforcement of directives, regulations and technical standards and the improvement of technical solutions aimed to minimize the occupational risks, the number of people dying every day at workplaces is still excessively high. The overall number of injuries is recently decreasing, but both the frequency and the total yearly number of fatalities still remain fundamentalny unchanged in the last years. The main problem with accidental data, as officially reported, is that very often, no evaluation is possible in terms of root causes, e.g. standard violations. Since the target of the analysis is the determination of the causal chain of events that lead to the accident to understand how it happened and how to avoid the occurrence of similar situations, the lack of detailed information lead to many difficulties in the definition of the suitable prevention measures. This paper shows three different, but integrated. methods able to collect, manage and analyze the information related to occurred accidents for preventive purposes.

This article deals with the issues relating to the maintenance and diagnostics of airplanes. It presents the concept of using the expert system to support the necessary maintenance and diagnostics of the aircraft. In the beginning it describes the general principles of developing the expert systems. It briefly discusses the basic tools used and their implementation. It also presents a way of employing one of the tools, i.e. the CLIPS expert system shell for solving airplane maintenance problems. Here the technical state diagnostics simulator of the M-28 airplane is used as an example.

It describes and discusses examples of tools to search for a language school and takes an account of methods of teaching a foreign language, and age of the child, who is to attend the classes. The article briefly characterizes each method of teaching foreign languages as well as describes the concept of an expert system, briefly describes the main features in above systems. The expert system can greatly facilitate and improve decision made by parents due to the “big expert knowledge” which takes into account child’s individual personality traits and their language potential.

Opis:
The main aim of Self Optimizing Neural Network (SONN), which are presented in this paper, is construction of expert system on the basis of analysis of medical information about group of patients. The expert system is built on the basis of neural network, and the main task of this system is to expect future patient health, based on information about the patient. Such a system can give the doctors a hint about that what can be happen with patient. And what is more important - the SONN construction process is very flexibly and adapts topology and all weights to training data. This is undoubtedly a great advantage of this type of neural network. Moreover the construction process is quite simple. The network topology and all connections between neurons can be easy implemented and kept in such a way, which allows to create very efficient expert system. In this paper we describe the process of construction of neural network which is based on one-shot analysis of learning patterns. On the basis of appropriate computation the SONN topology is built. The construction process can be repeated on the learning group of patients. In this way the expert system (based on SONN) will be better and better.

The paper presents the usage of mathematical theory of evidence in maritime and offshore applications. This paper brings together a collection of some research on the Dempster–Shafer theory of belief functions. By bridging fuzzy logic and probabilistic reasoning, the theory of belief functions has become a primary tool for knowledge representation and uncertainty reasoning in expert systems. This paper can serve as the authoritative reference in the field of evidential reasoning and an important archival reference in a wide range of areas including uncertainty reasoning in artificial intelligence and decision making in maritime and offshore applications, in management, engineering and transport, in marine shipping, coastal management, navigation, surveillance, monitoring and observation. In particular the paper describes uncertainty reasoning approaches to decision making in maritime and offshore applications, possible applications in safety-based assessment, Coastal Management Expert System, mathematical theory of evidence in marine navigation, the optimisation problem of monitoring stations distribution and finally the facility location and location science.
