    Opis:
    Ewa Domańska, a distinguished historian of historiography and the methodologist of history, has provided an insightful commentary on the state of humanities and social sciences. The development of interdisciplinary research in social sciences and humanities has resulted in varying outcomes and interpenetrations. Interdisciplinary research helps the development of science. However, studies undertaken with less rigor may pose some threats into the long term. According to Domańska, the lack of qualifications and care (especially with respect to theory and methodology) may undermine the autonomy of a disciplines and the credibility of research in the given field. This timely warning prompted the author to create the project with the aim to assert the independence of the threatened disciplines and to “re-professionalize” these areas of study. This is to be achieved by emphasizing the role of theory in science-a strong embeddedness of a discipline in the theory. Domańska’s concept, in the form of a dichotomous project, seems to be a recipe for achieving this goal. It presupposes, on the one hand, a “practical methodology”, i.e. constructing the theory basing on empirical research material, and on the other hand the so-called “virtue epistemology”, which stresses an ethical aspect of the researcher’s attitude and labour. The aim of the paper is to discuss Domańska’s project and to draw attention to the originality of her concept in the context of economic and social sciences. The economic history is a peculiar discipline founded at the intersection of history and economics. Thus, it is possible to put forward the thesis that Domańska’s suggestions are relevant to the research of economic history. The author will seek to determine what cognitive opportunities arise from the ontology of economic history and their potential threats to the main disciplines of history and economics. The article will also examine if Domańska’s project is appropriate for the economic history research as it is deeply embedded in “practical methodology”, and so in theory. Next, the author aims to consider the role of new theoretical approaches in this field, and whether it is possible to formulate novel concepts within the scope of the economic history. Finally, the author will attempt to assess the significance of “virtue epistemology” or the ethical aspect of an economic historian’s work.

    In his latest publication, Z. Bauman’s Retrotopia elaborates the ideas of S. Boym in the concept of a nostalgic society based on an imaginary effort to balance the values of freedom and security. Bauman points out that in this concept, for us, the past becomes the source of our presence, due to our resignation to the horizons of the future. This nostalgic orientation of contemporary society has, as we believe, fundamental ethical implications that we will try to outline in this paper by putting emphasis on professional ethics in the field of scientific research.

    Opis:
    The text refers to contemporary research about children from diverse cultural backgrounds in Polish educational institutions. I reflect on the need to decolonise this research and to sensitise scholars to the ethics of research “about” and “with” children. I argue that this should be oriented towards participation and the right to be properly researched, as postulated by J. Ennew. Ethics is crucial in the search for non-discriminatory research strategies (also in the area of affirmative action) due to the dominating research “about” children rather than “with” children or from the perspective of children. I reflect on research practices with children from diverse cultural backgrounds in Polish schools and preschools. I also draw attention to the ethical need to verify research about this group of children in the light of protecting their rights in a new country, language, education system and new culture. The absence of children’s voices and the prevalence of narrations about them as well as the lack of participatory research with this group of children preclude a deeper insight into their situation and ways of looking at the world. With this article I aim at making children’s voices heard.

    Opis:
    The aim of the article is to show problems of a conceptual nature with defining non-religious people, as well as some ethical consequences of these problems. In the beginning I point to the frequent phenomenon of treating atheism as a kind of religion. I identify the sources of this phenomenon in a tendency among sociologists of religion to use inclusive and functional definitions of religion. From the point of view of the researcher of non-religion and non-religiousness it is a problem. Therefore, I call for using in this context definitions of religion suggested by researched actors themselves, which often have substantive character. In research practice it usually means using self-declaration as a definitional criterion of non-religion. 
    Celem artykułu jest ukazanie problemów natury konceptualizacyjnej z definiowaniem osób niereligijnych oraz etycznych konsekwencji tych problemów. Na początku wskazuję na często występujące zjawisko traktowania ateizmu jako rodzaju religii. Źródeł tego faktu upatruję w spotykanej wśród socjologów religii tendencji do stosowania inkluzywnych i funkcjonalnych definicji religii. Z punktu widzenia badacza nie religii i niereligijności jest to problem, dlatego też postuluję używanie w tym kontekście definicji religii postulowanych przez samych badanych aktorów, na ogół mających charakter substancjalny. W praktyce badawczej przekłada się to na wybór autodeklaracji jako kryterium definicyjnego niereligijności.

    Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to summarize and evaluate previous research of Polish authors in the field of accounting ethics; identify the main trends in empirical research and organize the research findings; establish and assess the scope of reporting for individual elements of the research process; identify the research gaps that inspire further research. Methodology/approach: A systematic literature review was conducted, including bibliometric analysis and content analysis of 35 publications. Findings: Ethics in accounting as a research area is currently only at the development stage. At the same time, a variety of research interests is noticeable, the most common of which is to identify the motives and causes of unethical behavior. All studies except one were based on non-random sampling. The vast majority of the research was questionnaire; in half of the cases, the research group consisted of students. Recommendations were made regarding the methodological rigor of further research. The methodological shortcomings make it im-possible to replicate the research conducted so far. Thanks to the identification of research gaps, directions for further scientific research were determined. Research limitations/implications: The review was limited to scientific journals only due to the necessity to standardize the sources of publication of research results. Originality/value: Conclusions from the review may inspire others to undertake research in previously unexplored areas. It may also be a guide to ensure the best possible quality.

    Opis:
    The policy of open access to scientific publications at the Lublin University of Technology gave rise to the issue of sharing research data, which emerged to be a challenge for both research workers and librarians. Promoting awareness in the academic community of how the value and significance of their data increases and when others can make use of it is a novel and challenging task. The objective of this article is to present the activities undertaken for this purpose by the librarians of the Lublin University of Technology. These activities include introducing the Open Access Policy, creating a research data management strategy, and appointing two teams: one with the aim of supporting the University’s Project Office, and the second to create an institutional repository of research data. These actions contribute to the understanding of the value of sharing research results and how to be FAIR when doing so.

    In the already existing resources of original Polish studies concerning the sexuality of children and adolescents as well as in planning similar studies there are important methodological shortcomings and ethical controversies. Beginning with the “sensitivity” of the topic, having diversified social assessment, through the difficulties in comparative studies (most of the literature comes from English-speaking cultural area) as well as the specifics of the selection of the studied populations (narrowed almost entirely to victims of sexual abuse), ending with the difficulties in formulating research objectives and ways of their implementation without compromising the subjects with possible damage. Significant limitations, strictly connected with the above ethical issues are the methodological aspects of sexual behaviour studies among children and adolescents – both the healthy and the ones from clinical groups. This article discusses the advantages and shortcomings of the ways of collecting data and research methodology – case studies; interviews with children and adolescents concerning their sexual behaviour; retrospective descriptions made by young adults, their sexual behaviour from childhood and adolescence time; observations of sexual behaviours of younger children made by parents and carers; standardized behaviour rating scales; direct observation and self-monitoring and neuroimaging studies. The values and limitations of these methods are presented in the axiological optics on the basis of own studies on children from the clinical population.
    W oryginalnych polskich opracowaniach dotyczących seksualności dzieci i młodzieży, a także w planowaniu badań z tego zakresu można zaobserwować istotne niedoskonałości metodologiczne i kwestie budzące kontrowersje etyczne, począwszy od „wrażliwości” tematyki, spotykającej się ze zróżnicowaną oceną społeczną, poprzez trudności w badaniach porównawczych (większość literatury pochodzi z anglojęzycznego obszaru kulturowego), specyfikę doboru populacji badanych (zawężonej nieomal zupełnie do ofiar molestowania seksualnego), na trudnościach w formułowaniu celów badawczych i sposobów ich realizacji bez narażania osób badanych na możliwe szkody skończywszy. Istotnymi ograniczeniami, ściśle związanymi z wymienionymi problemami etycznymi, są aspekty metodologiczne badań zachowań seksualnych dzieci i młodzieży – zarówno zdrowej, jak i z grup klinicznych. W pracy omówiono niedoskonałości różnych sposobów zbierania danych i metod badawczych (opisy przypadków – case studies, wywiady zbierane od dzieci i młodzieży dotyczące ich zachowań seksualnych, retrospektywne opisy własnych zachowań seksualnych z czasu dzieciństwa i adolescencji dokonywane przez młodych dorosłych, obserwacje zachowań seksualnych młodszych dzieci dokonywane przez rodziców i opiekunów, standaryzowane skale oceny zachowań, obserwacja bezpośrednia oraz samomonitorowanie i badania neuroobrazowe), a także związane z nimi korzyści. Wartości i ograniczenia tych metod przedstawione są w optyce aksjologicznej, na podstawie badań własnych dzieci z populacji klinicznej.
