It is shown that each quadrature computed by Romberg algorithm is exact for slightly perturbed data (computed values of the integrand). For the ordinary summation algorithm the cumulation of rounding errors is proportional to N, the number of quadrature modes. For more elaborate summation the cumulation is proportional to log N. For the binary floating point arithmetic with proper rounding of the sum, the cumulation of errors can be made practically independent of N. In each case the influence of Romberg extrapolation on the cumulation of rounding errors is bounded by a constant.

Most of the laboratory studies on recasts have examined the role of intensive recasts provided repeatedly on the same target structure. This is different from the original definition of recasts as the reformulation of learner errors as they occur naturally and spontaneously in the course of communicative interaction. Using a within-group research design and a new testing methodology (video-based stimulated correction posttest), this laboratory study examined whether extensive and spontaneous recasts provided during smallgroup work were beneficial to adult L2 learners. Participants were 26 ESL learners, who were divided into seven small groups (3-5 students per group), and each group participated in an oral activity with a teacher. During the activity, the students received incidental and extensive recasts to half of their errors; the other half of their errors received no feedback. Students’ ability to detect and correct their errors in the three types of episodes was assessed using two types of tests: a stimulated correction test (a video-based computer test) and a written test. Students’ reaction time on the error detection portion of the stimulated correction task was also measured. The results showed that students were able to detect more errors in error+recast (error followed by the provision of a recast) episodes than in error-recast (error and no recast provided) episodes (though this difference did not reach statistical significance). They were also able to successfully and partially successfully correct more errors in error+recast episodes than in error-recast episodes, and this difference was statistically significant on the written test. The reaction time results also point towards a benefit from recasts, as students were able to complete the task (slightly) more quickly for error+recast episodes than for error-recast episodes.

Precision beam pointing is the key indicator for APT (acquisition, pointing and tracking) system in space laser communication. The laser travels inside the optical system and the pointing vector will be affected by an assembly error of the axis and reflectors. In this paper, the model of the optical path pointing error and coaxiality error induced by the assembly error are established; the error distribution is given and a quantitative analysis is performed. The results show that the magnitude of pointing error is affected by the axis assembling error greatly but its distribution is susceptible to the reflector assembly error. Finally, the correction of coaxiality is performed and tested. The experimental results show that the coaxiality error can be greatly improved and the mean value of the coaxiality error of a beacon path and a signal path are 14 and 9.6 μrad, respectively, which meets the requirements. This work can provide guidance for design and assembly of the APT and contribute to the improvement of its pointing performance.

The parameters of the resistance-to-voltage converters, i.e. different types of DC circuits with arbitrary variable resistive sensors (of relative resistance increments), and their accuracy measures are discussed. Transfer coefficients, limited error (and also standard uncertainty) as functions of relative increments of resistance are shown in broad range for different types of supply and sensor configuration of the circuit of initial 2D converters.

Some population mean estimators are modified and studied in the presence of non-response and measurement errors. Bias and mean squared error expressions are derived under different cases. For all estimators, a theoretical comparison is made with the sample mean per unit estimator. The Monte-Carlo simulation is used to present a detailed picture of all estimators' performance.

Opis:
In machining up to 75% of the geometrical variations of work piece, features are caused by thermally induced deformations of machine components [1]. Since in dry cutting up to 80% of the thermal energy is stored in the chips [2], we expected a significant effect of these process-dependent heat sources on the machine accuracy. Based on preliminary simulation results, we systematically applied determined quantities of heated chips to a machine table to understand their impact on the temperature field. Temperature sensors where used to measure the temperature change on the tables surface and in the structure. Length measuring probes measured the corresponding deformations at 24 points distributed over the table. The measurements show a temperature change of 4 K at the surface and 3 K in the structure near the heat source after 6 minutes of exposure to 500°C chips. In this case, the impact on the temperature field is local but causes the bending of the table. We recorded 8 micron of thermo-elastic deformations. The results suggest that high-accuracy processes with large energy input, such as hard turning, require the heat induced into the machine structure by hot chips to be implemented into compensation methods and correction algorithms.

Opis:
Almost all new aircraft are equipped with the Inertial Navigation System (INS). The accuracy in calculations of velocity, position and attitude of aircraft depends on measurement instruments, initial alignment errors, and navigation computer errors and can be improved by analysing and solving of differential equation of error. Solution of the equations allows one to correct output signals from the navigation system. In this work, three error models for the Strapdown Inertial Navigation System (SDINS) are derived - one into computed co-ordinate system in matrix notation and two models in a local-level co-ordinate system in matrix and in quaternion notations, respectively. Some simplifications to be introduced into error equations are proposed.
Dwa pozostałe wyprowadzono w normalnym układzie współrzędnych z wykorzystaniem odpowiednio: macierzy cosinusów kierunkowych i kwaternionów. Pokazano możliwości uproszczeń rownań błędów.

Opis:
Pointing errors (PE) during free space optical (FSO) transmission can be caused by laser beam wander due to thermal and wind dynamic instability. The aim of this work is to study the coupled effects of temperature and wind speed on PE using matrix Rician pointing error (MRPE) model; then show how variable antennas height can reduce PE due to wind speed and temperature coupled effects. To achieve this purposes, average PE expression was established using MRPE model. Then considering a Gaussian beam wave and Monin–Obukhov similarity functions for the structure parameters of temperature, explicit relationship was established between average PE, temperature and wind speed. It comes out of this study that under dynamic turbulence, one can appropriately modify temperature to reduce PE due to dynamic instability and reciprocally. Depending on turbulence large cells or frozen turbulence eddies distribution, PE can be reduced by appropriately modified antennas height or the distance between transmitter and receiver. That is why this work suggests to install variable or dynamic antennas (rather than fixed ones) which could intelligently modify its positions according to laser beam wander created by atmospheric turbulence.

The manufacturing and characterization of polymer nanocomposites is an active research trend nowadays. Nonetheless, statistical studies of polymer nanocomposites are not an easy task since they require several factors to consider, such as: large amount of samples manufactured from a standardized procedure and specialized equipment to address characterization tests in a repeatable fashion. In this manuscript, the experimental characterization of sensitivity, hysteresis error and drift error was carried out at multiple input voltages () for the following commercial brands of FSRs (force sensing resistors): Interlink FSR402 and Peratech SP200-10 sensors. The quotient between the mean and the standard deviation was used to determine dispersion in the aforementioned metrics. It was found that a low mean value in an error metric is typically accompanied by a comparatively larger dispersion, and similarly, a large mean value for a given metric resulted in lower dispersion; this observation was held for both sensor brands under the entire range of input voltages. In regard to sensitivity, both sensors showed similar dispersion in sensitivity for the whole range of input voltages. Sensors’ characterization was carried out in a tailored test bench capable of handling up to 16 sensors simultaneously; this let us speed up the characterization process.

Opis:
Thermal errors are one of the leading causes for positioning inaccuracies in modern machine tools. These errors are caused by various internal and external heat sources and sinks, which shape the machine tool’s temperature field and thus its deformation. Model based thermal error prediction and compensation is one way to reduce these inaccuracies. A new composite correlative model for the compensation of both internal and external thermal effects is presented. The composite model comprises a submodel for slow long- and medium-term ambient changes, one for short-term ambient changes and one for all internal thermal influences. A number of model assumptions are made to allow for this separation of thermal effects. The model was trained using a large number of FE simulations and validated online in a five-axis machine tool with measurements in a climate chamber. Despite the limitations, the compensation model achieved good predictions of the thermal error for both normal ambient conditions (21°C) and extreme ambient conditions (35°C).
