Opis:
The Sianjo-anjo reservoir is used to meet the need for downstream clean water. Land activity at the Sianjo-anjo reservoir watershed can potentially increase the rate of erosion and the silting of rivers and reservoirs due to sedimentation. Reservoir siltation is a crucial challenge for reservoir management because it can reduce its function and affect its service life. However, sediment yield is often overlooked in reservoir planning and environmental assessment. This study aims to predict the rate of land erosion and sediment yield, and create an erosion hazard map of the Sianjo-anjo reservoir watershed. The study used a Geographic Information System, GIS-based Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) method and discovered that the erosion rate of the Sianjo-anjo reservoir watershed was between 35.23 Mg∙ha-1∙y-1 until 455.08 Mg∙ha-1∙y-1, with 95.85% classified as the low level, 0.03% as moderate, and 4.12% as high. Meanwhile, the sediment yield from the Sianjo-anjo reservoir watershed was 218,812.802 Mg∙y-1. USLE is vital to identify areas susceptible to erosion and crucial for reservoir sustainability. Furthermore, it is necessary to plan good sediment management. Long-term land conservation is required to maintain storage capacity and ensure effective operation of the reservoir.

Opis:
Purpose: Major aim of the work was to formulate 2-parameters models of the cavitation erosion process and to bring about the particular methods for prediction of its performance with due calculation formulas. Design/methodology/approach: Phenomenological model of the erosion supplemented with functional relationships between calculation parameters and the strength parameters stand for the foundations of the method. Having assumed the probabilistic nature of the process and fatigue regime of the material destruction, the volume loss in time has been determined as proportional to the integral of the appropriate probability function. Correlations between parameters have been derived by adjusting the computed erosion curves to the experimental ones for the vast diversity of the cases. Findings: Two different formulas for the volume loss of the material in time under cavitation loading have been derived. Research limitations/implications: Results obtained from both the International Cavitation Erosion Test program as well as the own experiments carried out at the rotating disk set-up supplied necessary experimental data. Preliminary verification of the method soundness was completed. Assumption on the independence of the calculation parameters on the loading conditions have been taken. The approach is valid provided the defined relationships are also independent on the type and amplitude of the loading. Practical implications: Achieving the objectives is expected to result in developing a technique for assessment of the material damage under cavitation loadings. Numerical implementation of the model completed with the derived functional relationships stand for a tool, enabling a prospective user to predict the material performance under defined cavitation loading. Originality/value: New formulas for calculating the efficiency of cavitation erosion, inferred from the models of high physical clarity are the original contribution to the methodology and techniques concerned.

Opis:
Changes in land use as a result of human activities may generate the alteration of hydrometeorological disasters. Erosion, sedimentation, floods and landslides frequently occur in the Sanenrejo watershed (±292 km2), located in East Java, Indonesia. In this paper, the soil and water assessment tool (SWAT) model is used to evaluate the hydrological processes in this small watershed. The digital elevation model (DEM) is used as the primary input for deriving the topographic and physical properties of the watershed. Other input data used for the modelling processes include soil type, land use, observed discharge data and climate variables. These data are integrated into the SWAT to calculate discharge, erosion and sedimentation processes. The existing observed discharge data used to calibrate the SWAT output at the watershed outlet. The calibration results produce Nash–Sutcliffe efficiency (NSE) of 0.62 and determination coefficient (R2) of 0.75, then the validation result of 0.5 (NSE) and 0.63 (R2). The middle area faced the highest erosion and sedimentation that potentially contribute to hydrometeorological disasters.

Two-parameter phenomenological model for quantification of the cavitation damage process in its initial — incubation stage inspired by Förster energy migration theory is presented in the paper. The model built was supplemented with functional relationships between calculation parameters and strength parameters of the materials derived for chosen cavitation loading conditions. Experiments at the rotating disk set-up have been carried out in order to obtain necessary experimental data. The values of calculation parameters have been determined by adjusting the theoretical erosion curve to experimental one. Preliminary experimental verification of the model soundness consisted in comparing theoretical to experimental results obtained from both the ICET program and the experimental investigations of the cavitation erosion at Banki-Michel turbine blades. Reliability as well as the sources of inaccuracy and uncertainties were also discussed. The far-reaching aim of the work is to create the calculation tool for prediction of cavitation erosion performance in hydro-turbines during their operating cycle.

Opis:
The main aim of this work was the application of the soil additives into soil and the study of their impact on the amount of surface runoff originating from rainwater. Execution of research was carried out on the modified portion of the land at Department of Biometeorology and Hydrology, SUA Slovakia. Land was divided into four experimental plots. Individual treatments consisted of application of perlite, charcoal and water glass into the top layer of the experimental plots. The fourth experimental field was kept as a black fallow (control). To perform the measurements, rainfall simulator was used in six measurement series. We can conclude that the application of perlite is not an adequate treatment for erosion control practices, since its application increased the surface runoff. Increased application dose of additives resulted in the positive effects of the water glass application. Surface runoff for this treatment decreased in average by about 41% in comparison to control. This positive effect was observed only after the second application of the soil additives.

The paper presents potential soil erosion risk of the upper Parsęta catchment (Drawskie Lake District, NW Poland). The model considers following conditions affecting the size of soil erosion: slope gradient, LS factor, lithology, land use and land cover. Thematic maps have been reclassified into a 4-degree division. Potential soil erosion risk map was prepared on the basis of thematic maps. Areas with small and moderate susceptibility to soil erosion occupy 71.5% of the catchment area. The 4th class of erosiveness is represented by the river valley slopes, steep slopes of kame and moraine hills, covering 28.5% of the upper Parsęta catchment.

Opis:
The sediment transport is a complex phenomenon by its intermittent nature, randomness and by its spatiotemporal discontinuity. By reason of its scale, it constitutes a major constraint for development; it decreases storage capacity of dams and degrades state of ancillary structures. The study consists in modelling the transport of sediments by HEC-RAS software in wadi Chemora (Batna, Algeria). In order to do this, we have used hydrometric data (liquid flows, and solid flows) recorded at level of the four hydrometric stations existing in watershed of wadi Chemora, the MNT of the wadi and lithologic characteristics of the wadi. In the analyses of results we used the parameters from two different floods (the first one involved the whole watershed and the second – a part of the basin) along of system of wadi Chemora (wadi Chemora and its tributaries): sediment transport capacity, volume of sediments delivered to and leaving the system and areas sensitive to erosion and sedimentation.

Opis:
The paper presents the evaluation of soil water erosion risk of the Mściwojów water reservoir drainage basin. In the present study, modelling with the use of GIS (Geographical Information Systems) and RUSLE (Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation) erosion models were exploited. Values of topographic factor (LS) were calculated after formulas proposed by Moore et al. [1991] as well as Desmet and Govers [1996]. The results of erosion prognosis by means of RUSLE method after Moore's formula are by 40% higher than values evaluated after Desmet and Gover's formula. Eroded soil mean mass from area unit during the year is estimated at the level of 10.35-14.53 Mg • ha-1 • year-1, depending on computable formula used. Results of this research enabled to divide the drainage basin area into soil water erosion intensity zones based on predicted soil loss values according to Marks et al. [1989]. The study shows that water erosion risk of soil in the Mściwojów water reservoir drainage basin is very high. Almost one third of its area is located in the high and very high class of erosion risk.
