The article focuses on the possibility of using densitometry. It also presents the results of studies using a densitometer as a detector in planar chromatography for the determination of environmental pollutants, pro- and carcinogenic compounds found in food as well as biomarkers of exposure to tobacco smoke determined in urine, serum and amniotic fluid.
W artykule zwrócono uwagę na możliwości zastosowania densytometrii. Przedstawiono również rezultaty badań z zastosowaniem densytometru jako detektora w chromatografii planarnej do oznaczania związków zanieczyszczających środowisko naturalne, związków kancerogennych i prokancerogenów występujących w żywności oraz biomarkerów narażenia na dym tytoniowy oznaczanych w moczu, surowicy i płynie owodniowym.

The purification of microplastic samples is a crucial step in environmental research, aiming to remove contaminants and ensure accurate analysis. This study explores various methods for purifying microplastics, focusing on the removal of organic contaminants, specifically fulvic acids. Comparative analysis using microscopic imaging techniques was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of these methods. The results highlight the complexities involved in microplastic purification and the challenges associated with different approaches. While some methods showed promising outcomes, such as the sonification method, it was also observed that they could potentially alter the microplastic structure. Additionally, the limitations and potential interferences of other purification methods, such as Fenton's solution, were identified. This study underscores the importance of selecting purification methods that minimize negative impacts on microplastics and ensure reliable analysis. Further research is needed to optimize purification techniques and fully understand their effects on microplastic integrity. This research contributes to the broader goal of developing robust methodologies for microplastic analysis in environmental studies.

The data of individual sector on environmental science is compiled in information technology (IT) through database software known as Environment Information (EI). Environment information is an easy accessible database in individual sector, where people can know both new research scope and impact on environment. The present study deals to inform that EI is an area, in which the knowledge of environmental science and IT is combined through database software. In this paper, individual research area, data format and beneficial aspects on environmental science is tabulated for EI. There are several research areas in which the data viz. ecology and ecosystem, biodiversity and conservation of important species, health hazards by diseases, health care facilities, toxicological aspects, wastes types, source generation and management, alternative energy generation facilities, environment education and awareness etc. It is a conceptual approach to gather knowledge of environment related problems and prospects and can easily make a database for the intellectuals, academicians, scientists, regulatory authorities, policy makers, researchers, students etc. These help to know benefits in research area, regulatory process, decision making and proper environment management. People can easily access compiled database in an individual sector of environment science.

Introduction. This article consists of two parts: the theoretical one, introducing several key terms, and the empirical part, presenting the analysis of sociological research. Explaining the concept of ‘education’ in the first part of the article allowed for formulating relevant hypotheses on students’ approach to the problems of environmental protection. Materials and methods. The proposed hypotheses were then verified with regard to the project executed in 2015, which investigated the position and role of environmental values in the value system of students from selected countries of Central Eastern Europe. The description of this research is presented in the second part of the article. Results. The conclusions from the analysis with regard to the country and faculty of studies are rather disturbing. The findings revealed that the level of environmental education in students is relatively low. The overall comparative analysis demonstrated that students from the Czech Republic represented the highest level of environmental awareness compared to those from Ukraine, Poland and Slovakia. Further, the analysis took into consideration the students’ faculty and showed that those studying natural sciences were only slightly better educated in environmental protection compared to students of humanities. This may indicate that even when young people receive environmental education, it does not help in creating a bond between them and the natural environment. Conclusion. Although the findings should be treated with some caution, they still deserve serious consideration, and should stimulate further research in this area.
Wstęp. Artykuł składa się z dwóch części: teoretycznej – zawierającej konceptualizację kluczowych terminów oraz części empirycznej zawierającej analizę badań socjologicznych. We wprowadzeniu zdefiniowany został termin edukacja, co umożliwiło sformułowanie hipotez badawczych dotyczących stosunku studentów do problemów ochrony środowiska. Materiał i metody. Zaproponowane hipotezy zostały zweryfikowane na podstawie danych zebranych podczas badań w 2015 roku, dotyczących miejsca i roli wartości środowiskowych wśród innych wartości akceptowanych przez studentów z krajów środkowo-wschodniej Europy. Opis tych badań został przedstawiony w drugiej części artykułu. Wyniki. Wnioski z analizy, w której uwzględniono dwie zmienne: kraj studiów i kierunek studiów, są niepokojące. Wyniki wskazują, że poziom edukacji środowiskowej wśród studentów jest dość niski. Najwyższy poziom wyedukowania środowiskowego wykazali studenci czescy. Z kolei uwzględniając kierunek studiów można stwierdzić, że studenci nauk przyrodniczych byli nieco lepiej wykształceni w zakresie ochrony środowiska niż studenci humanistyki. Oznacza to, że nawet jeśli młodzi ludzie kształcą się w zakresie ochrony środowiska, nie przekłada się to na odczuwanie przez nich więzi z przyrodą. Wnioski. Wyniki badań należy traktować z pewną ostrożnością, konieczne jest podejmowanie dalszych analiz w tym zakresie.

Leadership is a key factor in successful social movement mobilization. Without a grasp of leadership dynamics in a community, it is difficult to explain how individuals come to occupy leadership roles and what impact this has on the overall success of a movement effort. In this study, I use the qualitative approach to investigate how leadership is framed in a community facing the existence of environmental contamination. I follow the development of leadership among actors and particularly the relationships that they create and maintain with expert environmental activists. Using interview data from 35 community residents and activists, I establish how leadership frames were presented to the community and how these frames impacted mobilization efforts and outcomes.

Since the 1980s, various organizations have promoted learning about the environment. This follows efforts by both governments and ecological associations to set stricter environmental standards. Beginning in the 1990s, ecological associations have tried a new approach - applying economic incentives to address environmental pollution, as well as global environmental problems. However, while environmental awareness has improved in recent years, a gap between people’s attitude and action as regards environmental issues has been pointed out. What people actually do, does not truly reflect high environmental consciousness [1]. Such contradiction between attitude and action has been mentioned in several studies [see 2-6]. The aim of this paper is to review environmental awareness, for example, that in the City Municipality of Zvezdara (Belgrade) for sustainable forestry in Zvezdarske forest.

In this work, characterization of dolomite powder was carried out in order to specify possible industrial applications. After the technological use of dolomite aggregates, the remaining fine powder becomes a waste. Raw and calcined powder samples were subject to mineralogical, textural and chemical studies involving leaching tests. The results of the calcination process indicate that the carbonate minerals present in the material sample undergo complete decomposition to form oxides. After the calcination, the material is practically non-porous, and its surface area is more than five times lower than that of the raw material. However, due to the high content of calcia in the calcined sample (CaO > 45% wt.), the material cannot be used as an additive in cement. The leaching tests showed that the concentration of metals released from the dolomite powder is low enough to classify the material as hazardous waste according to the TCLP test. Moreover, the concentration of metals that can get into the environment does not exceed permissible values as set by Polish law. Thus, it is recommended and justified to carry out detailed tests for the purpose of environmental protection; i.e. wet flue gas desulfurization, heavy metals absorption, and CO2 capture.

Objectives To compare the number and quality of public, environmental and occupational health articles published in international journals from the 3 major non-English speaking countries of East Asia: China, Japan and Korea. Material and Methods Public, environmental and occupational health articles from China, Japan and Korea that were published in 161 journals from 2003 to 2012 were retrieved from the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) database. We recorded the numbers of total articles, impact factors (IF), citations, number of articles in top 10 journals, references as well as the article distribution from various regions in China. Results From 2003 to 2012, China, Japan and Korea published 5713, 3802 and 1967 papers respectively, with accumulated impact factor of 14 934.55, 8758.36 and 6189.25, the average impact factor of 2.61, 2.30 and 3.15 and the average citation numbers per document of 5.08, 6.49 and 5.25. In the top 10 high-impact public, environmental and occupational health journals, China, Japan and Korea accounted for 50.19%, 20.34% and 29.47% of all the papers published in those journals, respectively. Total impact factors of the most popular 10 papers for China, Japan and Korea were: 26.23, 27.08 and 26.91. Distribution of scientific papers among regions was unbalanced in China, for Hong Kong and Taiwan it accounted for 47.31% of the papers from China. Conclusions From 2003 to 2012, both the quality and number of papers from China published in public, environmental and occupational health journals have greatly improved. China exceeded Japan and Korea in the number, accumulated impact factor, total citation times and the average number of references, while Korea had the highest average impact factor. Japan had the highest journal impact factor among the most popular journals, and the highest average citation number per document.

Environmental sociology has been developing since the 1970s; however, it only recently became institutionalized in Poland with the establishment of a respective section in the Polish Sociological Association. We argue that environmental sociology in Poland and the broader area of Central and Eastern Europe has made an important contribution to international research on relations between humanity and nature in the Anthropocene. This paper presents the current state of the art in Polish environmental sociology and discusses future research questions. Our contribution is based on a literature review and the results of a workshop with Polish environmental sociologists. Future research areas discussed in this paper emerge from the following five main thematic domains: (I) social aspects of nature conservation; (II) environmental groups and movements; (III) sustainable development and the participation of local communities in rural and urban areas; (IV) environmental risks and threats and (V) and energy and society.

Constantly increasing technical and operational demands are set for modern manned and unmanned special vehicles, all − terrain vehicles, and mobile machines. Their producers must comply with very restrictive standards, strict legal regulations, and high customer requirements. They concern not only functionality and efficiency of described objects, but also resistance to the impact of environmental and climatic exposure. Vehicles and mobile machines must be adapted to work in different climatic conditions such as low and high temperature, variable humidity, wind, dustiness, rainfall, variable atmospheric pressure, solar radiation. Verification of the correctness of operation of all these systems installed in machines, vehicles and engineering units requires experimental research in specified and stable climatic conditions. These special conditions can only be implemented in a thermoclimatic chamber. Thanks to these researches, it is possible to confirm the effectiveness of solutions that allow machines to work in extreme climatic conditions, as well as to detect a number of defects and imperfections of the structure, unpredictable at the design stage. The article describes the research procedure certified by Polish Centre for Accreditation and discusses examples of technoclimatic research carried out recently in the thermoclimatic chamber of Laboratory of Technoclimatic Research and Heavy Duty Machines of Cracow University of Technology.

One of the main objectives of the European transport policy is to increase the share of alternative modes of transport – revitalization of rail transport, promotion of water transport and development of intermodal transport, which will help to reduce the dominance of road transport. The adverse impact of transport can be felt both in the natural environment and in society, where the dynamic development of this sector has enabled significant civilization development, with the effects varying depending on the level of economic development, the degree of advancement and use of the various transport sectors, geographical location (including climate), and also the sensitivity of the elements of the environment. Considering contemporary transport hazards, it is important to prevent them from occurring, and when that is not possible – limiting their impact on the environment and reducing the scale and extent of negative impacts. The impact of rail transport on the environment and safety is much lower compared to road transport. The impact of rail transport on the environment mainly comes from the emission of noise and vibration, pollution (from diesel locomotives) and land occupation. The article presents information on the current legal conditions regarding the emission of pollutants from rail vehicles. Information with reference to research tests and emission limit values was included. The subject of tests in real traffic conditions was also mentioned as the direction of changes in vehicle homologation tests.

Ecocriminology is one of the youngest research interests in the penal sciences. It is lectured in many renowned universities around the world, and since 2019, also in the Police Academy in Szczytno. The author presents the achievements in this fi eld, indicating its practical usefulness for law enforcement agencies, in particular in identifying organised forms of economic crime. These forms include smuggling and illegal trade in protected species of fl ora and fauna (so-called CITES crimes), smuggling and illegal trade in wastes, seizure of properties of particular value to the world’s natural heritage, land, water and air pollution, corruption, etc. The study has been enriched with a research part, in which the author presents the opinions of students—police offi cers of the Police Academy—on the educational activities in ecocriminology.

In the article was presented results of international researches about environmental consciousness. The project was realized in 2015. The main purpose of this article is to describe the level of environmental knowledge, values and attitudes among university students from Central Eastern Europe. In introduction of article was defined concept of environmental awareness. The research problem is question: What are differences in the state of environmental awareness between respondents living in the Poland, Slovakia and Ukraine? In the first part text was presented methodology of the conducted research. The second part of the article concerns the analysis of the collected data. On the basis of the conducted research it can maintain that the students of Central and Eastern Europe generally declared interest the state of the environment. The overall outcome of the research leads to the conclusion that the highest proportion of the respondents who declared interest in the environmental protection came from Slovakia. The fact that in their opinion it should care about the environment more than the students from Poland and Ukraine may result from the higher level of the environmental awareness.
W artykule przedstawione zostały wyniki międzynarodowych badań na temat świadomości środowiskowej. Projekt został zrealizowany w roku 2015. Głównym celem niniejszego artykułu jest opisanie poziomu wiedzy, akceptowanych wartości i postaw studentów z Europy Środkowej i Wschodniej względem przyrody. We wstępie artykułu zdefiniowano pojęcie świadomości środowiskowej. Problem badawczy został sformułowany w następujący sposób: Jakie występują różnice w stanie świadomości środowiskowej między respondentami z Polski, Słowacji i Ukrainy? W pierwszej części artykułu przedstawiona została metodologia przeprowadzonych badań. Druga część tekstu dotyczy analizy zebranych danych. Na jej podstawie można stwierdzić, że wybrani studenci z Europy Środkowej i Wschodniej ogólnie wykazywali zainteresowanie stanem środowiska przyrodniczego. Przeprowadzona analiza statystyczna pozwala również na sformułowanie wniosku, iż najwyższy odsetek respondentów, którzy deklarowali zainteresowanie ochroną środowiska stanowili słowaccy studenci. Fakt ten świadczy o tym, iż respondenci ze Słowacji prezentowali wyższy poziom świadomości środowiskowej niż studenci z Polski i Ukrainy.
