Opis:
In the paper, the author attempts to point out the meaning of procedures for the environmental management system (EMS). Particular attention is paid to form and content as well as to the functions, proprieties and structure of the procedures. The analyses were carried out taking into account a systemic approach of the essential topics to the ISO 14001 standard. Based on the chosen procedure, some fundamental methods of elaborating upon and implementing the EMS procedures were outlined. It was also presented that procedures written in accordance with these rules might provide vital support to the improvement of the organization’s management systems and might optimize the processes in the areas they cover.

Includes the identification and analysis of the vehicle recycling system using the example of buses in consideration of economic and business issues in Poland, specialising in the collection of cars/buses, their dismantling, segregation of materials and secondary use (recycling), given the regulatory changes proposed by the EU. The operations listed are interrelated. Reusing materials identical to their original purpose (including reuse of steel for car bodies) and assemblies from end-of-life vehicles (after possible reconditioning) can be applied as spare parts for repairs, subject to the observance of certain rules and the law. Life extension activities contribute to reducing the amount of waste sent to landfills. The paper presents a case for dismantling a bus.

Opis:
Whilst, in many countries, the scale of forest loss from business-as-usual development is immense, in Poland, this problem does not exist. However, obtaining additional land areas for afforestation is a main issue in Poland. In Poland, after the World War II, the forest area has been systematically growing. In 1945, the forest area was about 6.5 million ha, and the forest cover was 21%. In 2016, the forest area reached 9.2 million ha, and forest cover amounted to 29.5%. Today, there are 0.24 ha of forests per one inhabitant of Poland. The size of wood resources in stands is also changing. In 1945, forest resources on the trunk amounted to approximately 906 million m3 , and in 2016, it reached 2.4 million m3. The problem, however, is the uneven distribution of forests in Poland. Forests in Poland are very strictly protected by law. There are two most important acts, Forest Act of 2001 and Nature Conservation Act of 2004, that regulate principles for the retention, protection and augmentation of forest resources. Over the past decades in Poland, the social demands regarding non-economical functions of forest such as recreational activities, soil and water protection and mitigation of global warming became an important and constantly growing challenge for forest managers. Thus we suggest that, first of all, it is very important to extract the leading function for a given forest area. Interactions between development and conservations policies are very tied and may suggest the need of their integration. In this article, we present the concept of development policy for forest management and forest protection in Poland.

This investigations were carried out on different spent water-based muds, collected in drillings in various parts of Po land. The combined study methods included structural and phase investigations (X-ray diffractometry, infrared FTIR spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy) and instrumental chemical determinations. The results characterize mineral and phase composition of the samples, their microstructure and chemical composition. The authors focused on the specific nature of polymer-clay complexes, which in drilling mud systems have the form of delaminated or ex foliated organic-clay polymer nanocomposites that control prope rties of such waste materials. Detailed recognition of properties chemistry, mineral and phase composition, microstucture of spent drilling muds have a fundamental meaning for studies on the management of these materials in the natural environmental.

The article addresses a very important issue, being the lack of a specific environmental protection scientific discipline in Poland. The actual situation in this extent is analysed and compared to the solutions of the EU based on the systematic basis accepted by the OECD. The author presents methodological solutions in his study, which may serve as the basis for the creation of a substantive framework for the designation of a separate environmental protection scientific discipline. These assumptions are supported by holistic elements, which are essential to environmental management with regard for the concept of sustainable development.

Opis:
This article presents an analysis of the legal requirements related to environmental protection and the management of a deposit, paying special attention to the impact of the management of the deposit from the time of discovery, documentation and making the deposits available for exploitation until reclamation and use of deposit after dismantling of the mining plant on the institutional forms of environmental protection such as forms of protection of landscape and nature, forms of protection of groundwater, forms of protection of soil and the forms of forest protection. Accepted forms of division of environmental protection results from assessment of documented and undeveloped deposits of rock materials in task 7: Protection of rock deposits - criteria of their rational management, conditions and opportunities of implementation of the project Strategies and technological scenarios, using the method of assessment of Nieć and Radwanek-Bąk (2011). It also presents statistics showing the number of analysed forms of environmental protection applied in Poland. It was noted that every year the process of extending of legal protection to new areas has been observed. This process causes increased safety requirements for the planned mining activities in these areas. It is also emphasised that the management of the deposit should be implemented in a reasonable manner, compatible with the spatial policy pursued at all levels of administration. The mineral exploitation should to be economically justified and undertaken with measures, which reduce the negative impact of the different cycles of the life of the deposit on the elements of the environment, which are located directly on the planned or performed mining activities and in its vicinity. It also shows that mining activities can be performed in areas of institutional protection, after meeting the requirements imposed by the regulations and after obtaining the decision on environmental conditions of the planned mining activities.

Opis:
The fertilizer management is one of the greatest challenges of agriculture in the 21st century. The growing demand for food, along with the similar amount of arable land, creates the necessity of increasing the crop yields in a given area. Due to the fact that the production and use of mineral fertilizers often influence the environment in a negative way, for many years more attention has been paid to natural and organic fertilizers. Their advantage is the transfer of not only organic matter but also nutrients to the soil. In connection with the structural changes in agriculture, the production of natural fertilizers, especially manure decreases, but at the same time, the production of other organic fertilizers, e.g. composts or biochar increases. The aim of the work was to present the possibility of using biochar in the production of organic fertilizers. Moreover, the project concept for obtaining an organic fertilizer containing biochar and its application in the processes of biological transformation of waste was presented.

The purpose of this publication is to analyze air pollution on the example of the city of Krakow, as well as to consider the possibility of using geodata for environmental protection. In addition to case study analysis as the leading research method, the article also uses the observation, analysis, and statistical methods. The article presents the concept of using GIS spatial analyzes and spatial planning as an element of the Green New Deal in the process of ventilating the city of Krakow. When developing a project related to city ventilation, it is extremely important to have the most accurate data on the strength, direction of the wind, type of pollution, and the number of emitters. Spatial analyzes are also able to indicate the main ventilation corridors of the city. These include, above all, areas located on the Vistula River, but also the widest city streets. Such results make it possible to more consciously manage space.

In modern agricultural biogas plants, the biowastes are being increasingly used for the biogas production. The food waste is also widely used in larvae breeding. This is an important because, based on biowaste, its proper management and green energy production is possible. This study aims to determine the biogas and methane efficiency of the Hermetia illucens larvae that were fed using the food waste. In the research on the biogas and methane efficiency, the Hermetia illucens larvae were used. The total solids (TS) of the substrate equals 30.35%, and the volatile solids (VS) content was 92.31% of TS. The larvae were fed only with the food waste of plant origin. The obtained substrates were homogeneous. The experiment was carried out under mesophilic anaerobic digestion conditions – 39°C in the 21-chamber biofermentor set in the Institute of Biosystems Engineering in Poznań University of Life Sciences. The anaerobic digestion process in the batch reactor ran correctly. Fermentation inhibition was not detected. The biogas efficiency for larvae amounted to 198.75 m3∙Mg-1 fresh mass (FM). On the other hand, the methane efficiency, amounted to 127.73 m3∙Mg-1, at the methane concentration of 64.27%. On the basis of the research, it was found that the larvae feeding on food waste can be used directly as anaerobic digestion in the bioconversion process.

Opis:
The article attempts to demonstrate the role of decision-making process in actions for sustainable development implemented as part of environmental protection, which is viewed here in a systemic way. The article presents the definition of a system and its surroundings (environment), and points out that environmental protection can be described in this systemic perspective both in general and specific terms. This makes it possible to indicate the scheme and structure of decision-making process. The article examines the possibility of applying Mazur’s control system for designing a scheme of actions that would be adequate for environmental protection, with emphasis placed on the optimisation stage. The author shows that the system developed by Mazur can be used in the PDCA methodology, which is based on the Deming cycle and included in the ISO 14001 standard. As a result, the potential of the systemic approach to environmental protection is shown and it is explained how to move from this approach to a broader strategy for environmental protection and ultimately, to the implementation of sustainable development goals.
