Opis:
Assessment of the stability of a genotype to different environments is useful for recommending genotypes for known conditions of cultivation and should be a requirement in plant breeding programs. Nonparametric models do not require parametric assumptions and are good alternatives for parametric measurements to genotypes × environments (GE) interaction study.Twelve maize (Zea mays L.) genotypes were tested at eleven locations in for two years (22 environments). The experiments involved a randomized complete block design in which twelve nonparametric procedures were used to analyze genotype stability. Results of nonparametric tests of GE interaction and combined ANOVA showed there were both noncrossover and crossover GE interaction...

Interaction of genotypes with environment for quantitative traits among them certain disease resistance makes difficult choice of proper genotypes for breeding proposes and may affects further cultivation effects. The aim of this study was assessment of stability of reaction to Mycosphaerella pinodes infection for the set of pea genotypes in four years field experiments with vary epidemic pressure. The Sheffé-Caliński mixed model and the Caliński-Kaczmarek joint regression model for genotype-environment interaction analysis was applied. Tested pea genotypes were grouped into two categories; responding stable to M. pinodes (reacting proportionally to changed environment) and unstable ones (showing significant interaction with environment). The unstable genotypes reacted irregularly to environments (not able to describe the reaction to M. pinodes by any linear regression function). Pea genotypes PI 142441, PI 142442, PI 404221, PI 413691, cv. Radley and Bohun were characterized by high negative main effects (most resistant) for disease severity and showed stable response to M. pinodes infection. Stability of mycospharealla blight reactions was not associated with the level of resistance in the cultivars tested.

Soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merrill.) yielding potential depends on environmental conditions (precipitation, temperature, soil). The aim of the work was to evaluate stability of yielding (and other traits) of three soybean cultivars (Abelina, SG Anser, Merlin) grown under the climatic conditions of central-eastern Poland. The studied material was obtain in a field experiment conducted at Łączka (52°15' N, 21°95' E) during the growing seasons of 2017-2019. Trait stability was determined based on Shukla’s genotype stability variance and Wricke’s ecovalence describing the genotype-by-environment interaction. For all the examined parameters, there were found significant differences between successive growing seasons, cultivars, and cultivars within study years. The greatest influence of environmental conditions (years) was determined for plant height (64%) and first pod height (54.2%). Stability parameters indicated that cv. Abelina was the most stable in terms of yielding, 1000 seed weight, seed number per pod and average seed number per pod, cv. SG Anser being the least stable in this respect.

The study aimed at estimating the genotype × environment (G × E) interaction, stability and plasticity parameters for height growth and survival of hybrid aspen (Populus tremula L. × Populus tremuloides Michx.) clones. A set of 17 hybrid aspen clones were studied at age four in 11 field trials (series 1) and a set of 12 clones were studied at age 12 in three field trials (series 2) in Sweden, Finland and north-west Russia. There was an intermediate and significant correlation between height ranks at four and 12 years, showing modest G × E interaction for tree height. The corresponding correlation for survival was weak and insignificant, indicating a stronger G × E interaction than for height. The stability parameter (S) for height showed large differences among clones. The plasticity index (PI) values for height ranged from 0.6 to 0.8 among clones, demonstrating high levels of phenotypic plasticity.

Opis:
The mobile manipulator has the potential to become an efficient industrial robot due to its mobility and dexterity. Moreover, it has expanded the operational area of the mobile manipulator due to its ability to work in a limited space. However, adaptability to unknown environments has still not been developed to date. Therefore, adaptation of the mobile manipulator for unknown environments especially for rough/irregular terrain is discussed in this paper. Information about the environment, a key factor when aiming for compliance with an unknown and/or unstructured environment, was collected using a reaction torque observer. In order to adapt to the environment, compliance control was applied to the mobile manipulator. In this paper, we present a novel control strategy we have developed that can deal with unknown environments through the effective use of inverted pendulum control. Simulation and experiments were carried out to ensure the validity of the proposed method. The method could be confirmed as effective according to the results obtained.

Opis:
Public open spaces can positively contribute to people’s quality of life. With the world’s growing urban population, especially in developing countries, quality public spaces are becoming increasingly important. Streets are considered important public spaces for people-environment interactions. Streets play an important social role in communities’ lives and can contribute to a sense of community. Using people-environment interaction as theoretical framework, the study used a qualitative approach to explore social dynamics in a multi-modal street (Helen Joseph Street) in a South Africa metropolitan city (Pretoria). Aspects of ethnography was applied using observations and semi-structured interviews to generate data from 32 participants about social dynamics in the street. Themes that emerged from the content analysis of the data include: the multi-functional role of the street, serving an economic, cultural, social, political and functional role; the generation of vigorous social interaction with multi-levels of contact/interaction; the interrelated nature of the social and spatial/built environment; the role of the street space in facilitating social interaction and being supportive of the social environment. The findings illustrate the interrelatedness and complexity of people and their environment in Helen Joseph Street. It is suggested that streets have the potential to positively impact on people’s social lives. Streets can act as platforms for social interaction by becoming self-reinforced social spaces that attract people and in return change urban spaces into vibrant public spaces.

Opis:
The phenotype of an individual is determined by both the genotype and environment. Farmers and scientists aim to determine a superior genotype over a wide range of environmental conditions but also over years. The basic cause of differences between genotypes in their yield stability is when these two effects are not only additive, i.e. when genotype × environment interaction (GEI) is present in the data. Multi-location trials play an important role in plant breeding and agronomic research. The data from such trials have three main points: (i) to accurately estimate and predict yield based on limited experimental data; (ii) to determine yield stability and the pattern of response of genotypes across environments; and (iii) to provide reliable guidance for selecting the best genotypes or agronomic treatments for planting in future years and at new sites (Crossa, 1990). The purpose of the present paper is (i) to describe various multivariate statistical methods for analyzing interactions in general and GEI in particular, and (ii) to present a selected bibliography of 142 references to previous work.

Opis:
Interaction Analysis has been explored for the initiating topics, turn taking, and asking and answering questions in face-to-face learning environments during the last decades. This study investigated the form and sequence of the questions and answers in an asynchronous environment from a non-interventionist point of view. To conduct the research, 16 questions and answers from the discussion boards of an eight-week international online research course from 30 participants were copied, classified, and analyzed according to the Hmelo-Silver and Barrows’ (2008) grid. All the questions were classified as long-answer, short-answer, and task-oriented questions and their frequencies were calculated. Also, the presence of the Initiation, Response, and Feedback/Inquiry (IRFI) pattern was examined The results indicated that the largest number of questions fell under long-answer types and the participants were more motivated in responding the long-answer queries relating directly to the immediate studied materials or asking about definitions and personal ideas. The findings supported the idea that IRFI pattern might not be applicable in asynchronous environments. Therefore, the instructional patterns need to be designed carefully according to the needs of the new contexts. This study could enhance meaningful interactions in online educational settings such as language learning, teacher training, and professional development.

This article utilizes a symbolic interactionist approach in an investigation of perceived parenting during early adulthood. The aim is to explore the family environment and family relationships in the light of how parenting is constructed through the interaction of parents with their children and with society. The findings from semi-structured interviews conducted with adult volunteer respondents concerning their recollections of their relations with their parents are summarized. This provides the basis for outlining subjective experiences of the social environment and perceived parenting styles from a retrospective point of view in respect to gender and age differentiation.

The aim of the study was to examine how the wording of a question about audio, visual and audiovisual stimuli can affect the assessment of the environment. The participants of the psychophysical experiments were asked to rate, on a numerical scale, audio and visual information both separately and together, combined into mixes. A set of questions was used for all the investigated audio, visual, and audio-visual stimuli. The participants were asked about the comfort or the discomfort caused by the perceived stimuli presented at three different sound levels. The results show that there are no statistically significant differences between the assessment of comfort and discomfort associated with visual samples. Actually, the comfort and discomfort ratings are equivalent to the extent that a discomfort rating can be represented as the opposite to the comfort rating, i.e. the discomfort rating is equal to the 10 minus comfort rating. In general, the results obtained for audio and audio-visual samples were the same, with only a few exceptions that were dependent on sound level. No statistically significant differences were found for the loudest stimuli, but there were some exceptions for the softener cases. Based on the results, we show that only for visual stimuli both scales are totally interchangeable. When presenting audio and audio-visual samples, only one scale should be applied – either discomfort or comfort, depending on the context and the character of the stimuli.
