The deformation of furniture units plays a significant role in their effective and efficient way of use during the overall service life. Accurate information on the deformation of different types of furniture members can be determined and evaluated by current testing methods. However, this will not only be expensive but also destructive. Therefore, the objectives of this study were to obtain initial data to predict the types and magnitudes of deformation which take place in various furniture works due to certain stress distribution. Such predictions were carried out by employing engineering analysis within the scope of the statistical approach. AutoCAD and SolidWorks software were used to design the furniture while the ANSYS finite element program route was employed for engineering analysis in this work. The joint types and stresses were applied as follows: dowel type joints having an equivalent stress level ranging from 0.20-0.96 MPa and a deformation level ranging from 0.0010.82 mm; mortise and tenon joints having an equivalent stress level ranging from 0.17-2.68 MPa, deformation level ranging from 0.02-0.17 mm. Minifix type joints having an equivalent stress level ranging from 0.07-17.6 MPa, and a deformation level ranging from 0.03-1.42 mm. It appears that the engineering tools used in this study can successfully be applied to determine the deformation behaviors of furniture units.

This article contains kinematic analysis of the chassis mechanism used in Lockheed F-104S Star fighter aircraft, which is recently used by the NATO military aviation as an interceptor. The mechanism of the chassis is made up of several smaller subsystems with different functions. The first mechanism is used to eject the chassis before landing (touchdown) and fold it to hatchway after the lift off. The second mechanism is designed to perform rotation of the crossover with the wheel, in order to adjust the position of the wheel to fit it in the limited space in the hold. The third mechanism allows movement of the chassis resulting from the change in length of the damper. To determine the position of the following links of the mechanism was used calculus of vectors in which unit vectors were used to represent the angular position of the links. Often used equation, which describes a polygon vector, and the equation of unknown unit vector possible to determine if the other two and the angles between them are known. Calculations were performed in the three local systems of reference, thus were obtained the simplest forms of solutions for links positions. The corresponding scalar products of unit vectors are elements of two transition matrices. These matrices are needed for the vectors calculation in each of the three coordinate systems. The result of the analysis is to determine the angle of convergence and the angle of heel wheels as a function of variable length of hydraulic cylinder and the length of the shock absorber. It has been shown that length of the shock absorber has little effect on angle of convergence, but has a significant effect on the angle of the tilt-wheel landing gear.

Helicopter pad located on the ship significantly increase the operational capabilities of military and civilian ships. During the storm, especially side tilts of the ship hinder or even prevent the safe use of the helicopter pad. It is proposed to apply the system placed between the deck of the ship and landing site plate, driven by three independent linear drives located under the deck. The task of the system will be preventing from transferring to Helicopter pad the tilt of the ship around the longitudinal axis and the displacement of the deck along the transverse and vertical axis within the limits of the work area. The mechanism consists of the three movable pillars with the plate on top, which is the movable helicopter pad platform. As the linear actuators, plates moving along a horizontal guide were used, powered by system of steel cables with three independent electric motors. In folded state the mechanism, take up appropriately little space in the deck area. For the assumed extreme amplitudes of the ship motion, minimum dimensions of the mechanism links that meets the requirement to work in one configuration and lack of collisions were determined. Kinematic relationships were created indicate which mechanical quantities should be measured in real time to determine the momentary drives speed. For the adopted assumptions simulation was performed, confirming the predicted behaviour of the system. Based on the dynamics equations of system, drives loads, their power and individual links and joints load were determined.

This solution is characterized in that the landing plate is movable and actuated simultaneously by two support plates and two levers. Plates and levers are driven by separate linear motors that move along the guides connected to the base. The main feature of the mechanism is that when the base is not stable, it can reduce the linear movement of the landing platform in the vertical and transverse direction and angular displacement around an axis perpendicular and parallel to the axis of the ship. A preferred feature of the mechanism is that in folded position it occupies relatively little space. In addition, advantageous attribute of the mechanism is its large working area, enabling the reduction of high amplitude vibration. The article contains a calculation of the kinematics for the proposed structure of the mechanism. It also includes speed drives waveforms, which are the result of simulations for the input parameters of the ship movement.

The article presents examples of damage localization in numerical models of trusses based on changes in natural frequency. The changes were caused by an additional mass moving on the truss nodes. The results of the localization in several truss bars (top chord, bottom chord, diagonal bars, posts) are presented. The influence of damage size on the localization effectiveness is shown. The differential operator was used in the analyses.

The article presents the role of geostatistical research in identification (and minimization) of a geological risk against the background of the concept presented, aiming at assessing the value of lignite deposits from the perspective of integrated entities, i.e. mines and power stations. A detailed review of the solutions in geostatistics is to prove their usefulness and convince about the purposefulness of their application. The issue of optimization of sampling the deposit is important in defining its value, and at the same time its future development. In addition, on each stage of the chain of creating the value, the areas were defined of uncertainties and a number of risk which are attached with reference to the solution proposed of assessing the deposit value.

The article describes the result of theoretical research aimed at assessing the loads and operating conditions of a Coiled Tubing pipeline injecting water, suspended to the mining platform of Lotos Petrobaltic. For this purpose, appropriate calculation models have been developed using the Finite Element Method (FEM), taking into account the nature of the analyzed object and its loads. The analyzes were carried out for two pipes (previously operated and newly proposed) differing in geometrical and strength parameters. The research was carried out for selected directions of load on the pipeline (originating from sea waves) and various variants of attaching the suspended pipeline to the mining platform.

The paper presents a practical approach to calculating intra-domain paths within a domain of a content-aware network (CAN) that uses source routing. This approach was used in the prototype CAN constructed as a part of the Future Internet Engineering project outcome. The calculated paths must satisfy demands for capacity (capacity for a single connection and for aggregate connections using the given path are considered distinctly) and for a number of path-additive measures like delay, loss ratio. We state a suitable variant of QoS-aware unsplittable multicommodity ow problem and present the solving algorithm. The algorithm answers to the needs of its immediate application in the constructed system: a quick return within a short and fairly predictable time, simplicity and modiability, good behavior in the absence of a feasible solution (returning approximately-feasible solutions, showing how to modify demands to retain feasibility). On the other hand, a certain level of overdimensioning of the network is explored, unlike in a typical optimization algorithm. The algorithm is a mixture of: (i) shortest path techniques, (ii) simplified reference-level multicriteria techniques and parametric analysis applied to aggregate the QoS criteria (iii) penalty and mutation techniques to handle the common constraints. Numerical experiments assessing various aspects of the algorithm behavior are given.

The high volume transported by ro-ro vessels has not come without a price. Accidents and incidents related to design – lack of bulkheads, instability, problems with cargo access doors, stowage, securing cargo and lifesaving appliances – are growing along with the size of the vessels themselves. One particular and recurrent problem is the degree of these giant box-like high riding vessels exposed to wind. Recently the effect of a tramontana – a fierce, sudden and short term regional wind – in the Port of Koper was to detach a moored ship, causing an accident. This paper will present a study of that accident, and through simulations and modelling determine an improvement that will allow berthing perpendicular to the stern ramp to function more securely.

Creation and refinement of modern research methods in the last century had a signifi cant impact on the dynamic development of various fields of science. Special attention deserves computer image analysis and scanning electron microscopy. These methods can be used in virtually any field of science dealing with solids. Modern methods have many applications in environmental engineering. Studies, using the above advanced testing methods are also widely used in waste management. The article presents progressive research methodology of using image analysis and scanning electron microscopy in environmental engineering and waste management. It especially presents the application of these methods to determine physical, chemical and mineralogical properties of solid waste.

Context: Previously, the authors had developed and evaluated a framework to evaluate systematic review (SR) lifecycle tools. Goal: The goal of this study was to use the experiences of researchers in other domains to further evaluate and refine the evaluation framework. Method: We investigate the opinions of researchers with experience of systematic reviews in the healthcare and social sciences domains. We used semi-structured interviews to elicit their experiences of systematic reviews and SR support tools. Results: Study participants found broadly the same problems as software engineering (SE) researchers with the SR process. They agreed with the tool features we had included in our evaluation framework. Furthermore although there were some differences the majority of the importance assessments were very close. Conclusions: In the context of SRs, experiences of researchers in other domains can be useful to software engineering researchers. The evaluation framework for SR lifecycle tools appeared quite robust.

Opis:
Numerical modeling is one of the most promising and most developed scientific research tools [2]. The important advantage of this method is the ability to obtain results in a much more efficient way than using conventional experimental tools. In addition, the application of experimental methods is not feasible in solving numerous technical issues due to the inability to make direct measurements of the analyzed physical quantities. In the above mentioned applications, numerical modeling is an ideal research tool, which strongly contributes to the development of the contemporary science. This paper presents the stress analysis of the landing gear, which is a key element to ensure high operational reliability coefficient of the aircraft. The performed analysis is an example of the application of computational methods in solving technical issues in the area closely related to safety engineering.
Modelowanie numeryczne jest obecnie jedną z najbardziej obiecujących i rozwijanych naukowych metod badawczych, której najistotniejszą zaletą jest możliwość uzyskania danych wynikowych w sposób daleko bardziej efektywny niż z zastosowaniem klasycznych metod eksperymentalnych. Ponadto liczne są zagadnienia, do rozwiązania których aplikacja metod doświadczalnych nie jest wykonalna z uwagi na brak możliwości dokonania bezpośrednich pomiarów analizowanych wielkości fizycznych. Między innymi w takich zastosowaniach doskonale sprawdza się modelowanie numeryczne jako narzędzie badawcze służące rozwojowi współczesnej nauki. W pracy przedstawiono problematykę zastosowania numerycznych metod obliczeniowych w rozwiązywaniu zagadnień technicznych z obszaru ściśle związanego z inżynierią bezpieczeństwa na przykładzie analizy wytrzymałościowej podwozia samolotu, czyli kluczowego elementu zapewniającego wysoki współczynnik niezawodności eksploatacji statku powietrznego.

Reverse engineering (RE) aims at the reproduction of products following a detailed examination of their construction or composition. Nowadays, industrial applications of RE were boosted by combining it with additive manufacturing. Printing of reverse-engineered elements has become an option particularly when spare parts are needed. In this paper, a case study was presented that explains how such an approach can be implemented in the case of products with asymmetric mechanical properties and using replacement materials. In this case study, a reverse engineering application was conducted on a textile machine spare part. To this end, the nearest material was selected to the actual material selection and some mechanical tests were made to validate it. Next, a replacement part was designed by following the asymmetric push-in pull-out characteristic. Finally, the finite element analysis with Additive Manufacturing was combined and validated experimentally.
