Opis:
he paper describes the work of high speed spark ignition engine with additional high pressure air injection during combustion process. The analyzed conception of combustion and pneumatic engine is based on the European patent EPO - EP2 103777 A2 and polish announcement UP RP P-387992. The paper presents the results of theoretical and numerical investigations for different analyzed control parameters of the injection dose of air with comparison of work parameters for standard and modified engine. Additional post air injection enables achieving higher expansion pressure and additional oxygen for better fuel combustion. At proper air dose the charge temperature slightly decreases, which enables applying of a cheaper turbocharger in such engine in regard of thermal resistance of materials. The engine is equipped with electronic control system of air injection and directfuel injection. The paper shows an increase of dynamic engine performance for constant timings and pressure of air injection and variations of engine work in comparison to standard engine. Additionally the paper shows possible energy recovery system of such engine in the car. The conception is a certain input for "downsizing" of engines and reduction of exhaust emission. The results presented in the paper were obtained from computer programs based on prepared mathematical model.

Opis:
The paper describes the work of high speed charged spark ignition overhead poppet valve two-stroke engine, which enables to achieve higher total efficiency and exhaust gas emission comparable to four-stroke engines. The work of such engines is possible by proper choice ofvalve timings, geometrical parameters of inlet, outlet ducts and charge pressure. The engine has to be equipped with direct fuel injection system enabling lower emission of pollutants. The work is based on theoretical considerations performed in GT-Power in previous authors' research and carried out in CFD code (KIVA 3 V) for different engine configurations. The initial results included in the paper show influence of inlet port geometry and charge pressure on engine scavenging process. Additionally, optimum fuel spray injector position was considered in order to obtain proper fuel vaporization and avoid significant wall-wetting. The simulation results show that the nitrogen oxides arę considerably reduced in comparison to four-stroke engines because ofhigher internal exhaust gas recirculation. The innovation of this proposal is applying of poppet intake and exhaust valves with turbocharging in the two-stroke engine and obtaining a significant downsizing effect. The conclusion shows the possibilities of proper gas exchange process in this type of two-stroke engine and thus, the feasibility of its application as a power unii for transportation means with higher total efficiency than traditional engines with possible change of engine work in two modes: two- and four-stroke cycles.

Opis:
Small power two-stroke engines can be competitive in regard of work parameters and pollutants emission in relation to four-stroke engines at some modifications, particularly changing of fuelling system. The paper presents a modifted air-assisted direct fuel injection in a two-stroke engine, which changes propagation of fuel jet in the combustion chamber. The main problem of mixture formation is short time for fuel evaporation after injection which should begin after closing of the exhaust port. The paper shows interaction between the scavenge air, additional air stream and fuel jet from the injector located in the cylinder head, which can induce the small size of fuel droplets and fast evaporation. The computational results of fuel mixture formation and combustion process in direct fuel injection two-stroke engine Robin EC-12 with capacity 115 cm3 are presented. The simulation was carried out by use KIVA code with assumption of initial parameters from the experimental tests on the carburetted engine. Setting of the injector in a regard of the cylinder head decides of fuel motion and evaporation in the combustion chamber. Air-assisted fuel injection influences on higher mixing of fuel and better combustion than by using DFI system. The paper shows phases of mixture formation, combustion and concentration of the combustion product in the cylinder with additional air stream. Spray guided high pressure direct injection system in SI two-stroke engine enables fulfil the restrictions of gas emission of one-wheeler vehicles and small power units.

Opis:
The present work defines main conception of modern, efficient and ecologic two-stroke engine. It indicates the scope of necessary modifications that have to be made in typical four-stroke engine to prepare it to work in two-stroke mode. Taking into account some limitations (especially in valve train design) authors performed several analyzes in order to check the possibility of proper scavenging process and obtain main engine characteristics. The paper contains description of simulation approach and selected mathematical models that was applied in carried over analyzes. The results of foregoing simulations, which were obtain taking advantage of GT-Power software should be considered as preliminary since several parameters have to be defined during research and 3D simulations. In order to expose advantages of modern two-stroke engine a simple comparison of it and its predecessor was performed taking into consideration BSFC maps. The objects of simulation were fluid flow, scavenging and combustion. This comparison indicates that proposed two-stroke engine achieve significantly less break specific fuel consumption (up to 27 g/kWh drop). Paper presents diagram of new type two-stroke engine with poppet valves, which is probably the most feasible layout of two-stroke engine, and GT-Power model of simulated single-cylinder engine based on four-stroke single cylinder engine.

Opis:
Current trends in the high bypass ratio turbofan engines development are discussed in the beginning of the paper. Based on this, the state of the art in the contemporary turbofan engines is presented and their change in the last decade is briefly summarized. The main scope of the work is the bypass ratio growth analysis. It is discussed for classical turbofan engine scheme. The next step is presentation of reach this goal by application of an additional combustor located between high and low pressure turbines. The numerical model for fast analysis of bypass ratio grows for both engine kinds are presented. Based on it, the numerical simulation of bypass engine increasing is studied. The assumption to carry out this study is a common core engine. For classical turbofan engine bypass ratio grow is compensated by fan pressure ratio reduction. For inter turbine burner turbofan, bypass grown is compensated by additional energy input into the additional combustor. Presented results are plotted and discussed. The main conclusion is drawing that energy input in to the turbofan aero engine should grow when bypass ratio is growing otherwise the energy should be saved by other engine elements (here fan pressure ratio is decreasing). Presented solution of additional energy input in inter turbine burner allow to eliminate this problem. In studied aspect, this solution not allows to improve engine performance. Specific thrust of such engine grows with bypass ratio rise – this is positive, but specific fuel consumption rise too. Classical turbofan reaches lower specific thrust for higher bypass ratio but its specific fuel consumption is lower too. Specific fuel consumption decreasing is one of the goal set for future aero-engines improvements.

Opis:
An inter turbine combustion is one of modern direction of turbofan engine cycle modification. It is possible to reduce gas temperature in high-pressure turbine inlet section and reduce NOX emission by an additional combustor placed between high and low pressure turbines. The analysis of engine cycle modification and its performance are a scope of many scientific investigations, but it is not any work about engine dimension change due to cycle modification. By these way problems of two combustor engine components and dimensions, change with comparison to conventional turbofan engine is a goal of this work. The structure of a turbofan engine with inter turbine combustor is shown and results of evaluation temperature and pressure in specified engine cut sections are presented and discussed. Then the gas density is calculated and by mass continuity equation application, the specified cross section areas are determined. The results of two-combustor turbofan engine are compared with conventional high bypass turbofan engine. The comparison of engines parameters allow to predict how engine components should be modified in two-combustor turbofan when the base of modification is classic turbofan engine. The analyse contain determination of compressor and turbine stage numbers, prediction of areas of cross section and diameters in specified engine sections and overall engine axial dimensions. The results are used to formulate conclusion about the turbofan engine structure modification by additional combustor implementation between turbines.

Consumer-grade game engines such as Multimedia Fusion and RPG Maker have dramatically extended the reach of digital games as a medium. They have also spawned online communities, where conventions and canons of using these tools have evolved. These partly stem from the functional constraints of the game engines themselves and are institutionalized through manuals, examples, tutorials, and games made with them. However, some members of game engine communities actively seek to challenge these conventions by experimenting with the engines and finding ingenious ways to put them to unexpected uses. Such experiments can be regarded as a form of metacommentary on the engines’ capabilities and limitations. While arguably impractical and inefficient, they enrich the scope of what can be done with the engine and can contribute to its further development.

This article is a contribution to the ongoing debate on the scenario of the vehicle powertrains development. The directions of the internal combustion engines development in search of the possibility of effective economic and ecological indicators improvement have been indicated. It has been pointed out that this goal can be achieved through the use of nanotechnology in order to exceed the downsizing barriers resulting from the permissible mechanical loads for conventional materials. The article presents the study of the construction and materials used in the piston assembly of the most advanced four-cylinder, compression-ignition diesel engine currently in manufacture. Original concepts of nanotechnology have been proposed to reduce friction losses in major friction components of future engines with extremely high loads. The main idea is to verify the hypothesis that the sub-micron surface texture of the friction components obtained in the process of applying anti-wear outer layers can lead to an effective reduction of friction losses under real engine operating conditions. Computer simulations of the effects of introducing the surface texture in the upper sealing ring on friction loss confirm this hypothesis by showing friction value being reduced by 3-4% relative to the standard ring profile. In the summary, further advanced technologies designed to effectively utilize the unique properties of carbon nanotubes have been described.

Opis:
The development of an engine air filter is based on filter performance requirements, vehicle 's operational environment, available space, filter media properties, and production technology. The design process includes analyses of theoretical and empirical models describing filter media performance and aerosol flow in filter housings and through filter elements. Filter media are carefully selected based upon these models and simplified laboratory tests. The filter element design is evaluated in great detail through a series of laboratory and field experiments. The role of the engine air induction system has increased because of recent engine exhaust particulate and evaporative emission regulations. Engine lifetime, engine emission and fuel consumption depend on the air induction system design and its performance. Providing optimized solutions for these requirements dictates filter development trends. This drives the need for smaller, more compact filters and more efficient filter media with higher permeability. The efficiency can be drastically improved by applying a layer of nanofibers to a cellulose or synthetic substrate. The ISO fractional efficiency test method, that in its final stage of development, can clearly show the advantage of nanofiber filter media. This paper discusses air cleaner design including the newest in-line reduced volume air cleaners and the role of nanofiber filter media in engine air filtration.
