Opis:
The use of motor vehicles varies considerably under distinct traffic conditions: in cities, outside cities as well as on motor-ways and expressways. The impact of road traffic on the natural environment has been studied for many years, including in terms of the nature of the operation of motor vehicles. This problem is particularly important in highly urbanized areas, where traffic congestion is the source of increased emissions of harmful compounds contained in exhaust gases. For this reason, many cities have traffic restrictions, especially for those cars that do not meet the most stringent emission standards. Environmental protection is the driving force behind the development of modern combustion engine supply systems, which allow for proper control of the combustion of petroleum-derived fuels. The exhaust gas cleaning systems in the form of catalytic converters or particulate matter filters are also playing a very important role. Considerable differences in internal combustion engine operating states, both static and dynamic, result in important differences in pollutant emissions. Likewise, the national annual pollutant emission is affected by the share of distances travelled by vehicles under various traffic conditions. At the same time, it is very difficult to estimate exhaust emissions from road transport sources. Very interesting method of emission estimation is the application of the data included in the emission inventory which are a valuable source of information on exhaust emissions under various operating conditions. In the present study, the annual pollutant emissions were analyzed: at a national level (total pollutant emission) and in distinct traffic conditions. There were found large differences between individual pollutants’ shares in the emissions from vehicles under the tested traffic conditions. This is particularly evident for nitrogen oxides with the highest emission share outside cities, as opposed to other substances with the highest emission shares in cities, where traffic congestion is taking place.

The paper presents results of coal behaviour during combustion in oxy-fuel atmosphere. The experiment was performed using 3 meter long Entrained Flow Reactor and 1 meter long Drop Tube Reactor. Three hard coals and two lignites were analysed in order to investigate NOx, SO2 emission and fly ash burnout. The measurements were performed along and at the outlet of a combustion chamber for one– and two – stage combustion. In the second stage of the experiment, kinetic parameters for nitrogen evolution during combustion in oxy – fuel and air were calculated and the division of nitrogen into the volatile matter and the char was measured. The conducted experiment showed that emissions in oxy – fuel are lower than those in air.

Opis:
The inventory results of pollutant emission from motor vehicles in Poland comparing to the emission of pollutants in the European Union have been presented in the paper. The analysis is based on the official results of the pollution inventory reported to the European Union. Emission of the following substances was considered for the years 1990-2016 for Poland and the European Union from all civilization and road transport activities: carbon monoxide, non-methan volatile organic compounds, nitrogen oxides and particulate matter consisting of fractions: total suspended particles, PM10 and PM2.5. It was observed that the share of pollutant emission from road transport in Poland is smaller than for the entire European Union. This is especially evident in the case of particulate matter and nitrogen oxides. As a result of the analysis of the emission inventory in the European Union, it was confirmed that the share of motorization in the emission of pollutants harmful to human health is significantly smaller in Poland than in the entire European Union. Therefore, conducting a detailed analysis of specific distance emission of pollutants from a statistical vehicle as well as extending research on greenhouse gas emission from motor vehicles is recommended.

This article presents results of the inventory of pollutant emission from motor vehicles in Poland. To determine emission from motor vehicles in Poland COPERT 5 software was used for the first time. In addition, a comparison of the national emission from motor vehicles in 2016 and in 2015 was included. Pollutants harmful to health were considered primarily: carbon monoxide, organic compounds, nitrogen oxides and particulate matter. Emission of substances contributing to the intensification of the greenhouse effect were also examined: carbon dioxide, ammonia and nitrous oxide. It was found that the relative increase in volume of emission of carbon monoxide and non-methane volatile organic compounds is less than 10%, and nitrogen oxides and particulate matter less than 15%. The relative increase in carbon dioxide emission is approximately 14%, which corresponds to a relative increase in fuel consumption. The relative increase of volume of heavy metal emission is similar. The assessment of the energy emission factor (emission of pollution related to energy equal to used fuel) proves that - amongst pollutants harmful to health - for carbon monoxide and non-methane volatile organic compounds there is a relative reduction by approximately 5% in 2016, and for nitrogen oxides and particulate matter - increase by approximately (3-4)%.

The work analyses the national annual emission of pollutants from passenger cars in Poland, in the years 2000–2015, including the classification of combustion engines relative to the ignition system. The study was carried out in accordance with the methodology used in the COPERT 4 software. The vehicle traffic model was analysed under the following conditions: urban, rural and on motorways and expressways. The national annual pollutant emission was found to change substantially alongside the changes in vehicle properties over the period analysed; the effect varied due to the performance of respective substances. The relative annual national emission of the various pollutants compared to the situation in 2000 were determined. There was a clear declining trend, from 2008 onwards, in the relative annual emission of pollutants from a representative passenger car; this was valid for all substances.

National annual emission from motor vehicles were estimated with the use, for the first time in Poland, of the COPERT software programme developed in support of official reporting under the EU cooperation framework. The quantification of vehicular emission covered the period 2000–2015. The results were analysed for the following cumulated vehicle categories: passenger cars, light commercial vehicles, heavy duty vehicles, urban buses, coaches, motorcycles and mopeds. The national annual emission from motor vehicles in Poland was found to be markedly declining. The relative national annual emission of individual pollutants was balanced against the situation in the year 2000. Starting from 2006, a distinct decreasing trend was observed for the relative national annual emission of pollutants from a representative motor vehicle; this was valid for all the substances except for nitrous oxide alone.

The paper presents the results of the study on the sensitivity of the national annual emission of pollutants from passenger cars to their average velocity under the following traffic conditions: urban, rural, and on motorways and expressways. The study was carried out in accordance with the methodology used in the COPERT 4 software. The effect of traffic speed within cumulated categories of passenger cars on the national emission of pollutants was analyzed. The national annual pollutant emission of pollutants was found to be substantially affected by the average car velocity, this effect being largely differentiated due to the character of road traffic. The type of the dependence of the national annual pollutant emission on the average velocity is similar for all substances, especially under traffic conditions in rural areas as well as on highways and expressways. A distinct minimum of the national pollutant emission was found at a velocity of about 70 km/h under rural conditions.

The paper presents the results of the study on the sensitivity of the national annual pollutant emission from passenger cars to traffic patterns. The traffic pattern was modelled as the share of road lengths under various traffic conditions: urban, rural and on motorways and expressways, in the total length of trips covered by vehicles. A relatively small and less varied sensitivity of the national annual pollutant emission from passenger cars to the traffic pattern was found due to the substance emitted. This was considered to be a valuable proposal for the selection of parameters for the total emission model of vehicular pollutants, in view of the difficulty of estimating the share of road lengths under model traffic conditions.

Ciągły wzrost wymagań dotyczących ochrony środowiska oraz dążenie do obniżenia kosztów energii skutkuje rozwojem coraz bardziej wydajnych i proekologicznych technologii wśród wszystkich branż przemysłu. Jednakże, nie tylko obniżenie emisji zanieczyszczeń (np. NOX) czy zużycia energii, ale także wysoka jakość produktów, niezawodność urządzeń, jednolity profil temperatury, odpowiedni strumień ciepła i bezpieczeństwo są niezwykle istotne. Wszystkie te kwestie są kluczowe dla przemysłu ciężkiego w obszarze procesów spalania. Powyższe aspekty zostały dokładnie sprawdzone i potwierdzone w technologii HiTAC podczas wieloletnich badań, a wyniki opisane w wielu publikacjach. Palnik HTB (ang. High Temperature Burner – palnik wysokotemperaturowy) wykorzystuje technologię spalania HiTAC oferują znacznie więcej korzyści niż te, które zostały wymienione powyżej. Palnik HTB jest wytrzymałym, wysokiej jakości produktem, umożliwiającym łatwe dostosowanie do istniejących warunków zabudowy i pracy pieca. Ponadto umożliwia on wykorzystanie istniejącego systemu rekuperacji oraz pozwala pracować z różnymi rodzajami paliw. Palnik HTB charakteryzuje się prostą konstrukcją, co sprawia, że jest praktycznie bezobsługowy. Zastosowanie palników HTB pozwala też na zmniejszenie kosztów operacyjnych poprzez wzrost żywotności wyłożenia ogniotrwałego komory spalania/pieca uzyskiwany dzięki wyeliminowaniu powstawania tzw. pików temperatury. Niniejszy artykuł opisuje zalety palników HTB w kontekście redukcji emisji zanieczyszczeń, obniżania kosztów operacyjnych oraz podniesienia jakości produktu w systemach spalania opartych o palniki HTB. Opis systemu przygotowany jest w oparciu o piec grzewczy pokroczny o wydajności projektowej równej 300t/h wykorzystujący wyłącznie palniki HTB (poza palnikami sufitowymi)
The continuously increasing standards of environmental protection and the drive to reduce energy costs result in the development of more efficient and environmentally friendly technologies across all sectors of industry. However, lowering levels of pollutants emissions (like NOX) and power consumption are as crucially important as high product quality, reliability, uniform temperature profile, appropriate heat flux, and safety. All these factors are of key significance for the heavy industry with regard to combustion processes. The abovementioned aspects had been thoroughly examined and proven over many years in studies employing the HiTAC technology (High Temperature Air Combustion). The results appeared in numerous publications. HTB (High Temperature Burner) utilizes the HiTAC combustion technology, offering an even wider range of advantages than those listed above. It is a heavy-duty high-quality product which can be easily adapted to an existing installation. Furthermore, HTB can utilise an existing recuperative system and is suitable for use with a variety of different fuels. Owing to the simple design, the burner is virtually maintenance-free. It should be also stressed that using HTB can provide cost savings, as eliminating temperature peaks improves the life of the combustion chamber refractory lining. The following article discusses the advantages of HTB-type burners with regard to reducing pollutants emissions, decreasing operating expenses, and improving product quality in HTB-based combustion systems. The description is based on the walking beam reheating furnace with the design capacity of 300 t/h using almost exclusively HTB burners (with the exception of roof burners).

The paper presents a general approach to modelling traffic organization within the network of national transport system and with taking into account environmental aspects. General description of the model and necessary data for modelling are presented. The exact mathematical formulation of constrains and criteria functions assessing quality of traffic organization and taking into account level of emission of harmful compounds of exhaust gases are provided. The assessment of traffic organization in transport network is made in aspect of programming transport system development in ecological terms. Particular attention was paid to technical and ecological features of infrastructure and means of transport. What is important, model uses emission indexes set in real traffic conditions. The example of multi-variant distribution of freight traffic into the transport network is provided. Example was prepared with regard to environmental factors in simulation modelling tool EMITRANSYS developed in PTV VISUM.

The goal of this paper is to indicate the role of public institutions in the field of financing investment tasks within the area of air quality preservation on the example of the Provincial Environmental Protection and Water Management Fund in Szczecin. The analytical-description method based on available secondary data was used. Both from a national and regional perspective, problems with air quality, connected with exceeding pollutant emissions levels, are observed. In the study, only emissions of SO₂, NOₓ and ash, in the years 2015-2018, were addressed. The importance of surface and linear emissions in generating excess was indicated. Spending statutory assets of the Provincial Environmental Protection and Water Management Fund in Szczecin on air protection in the studied area was analyzed. The need to carry out intense action aimed at fulfilling significant environmental goals and the proper use of public funds was indicated. The significance of carrying out joint support programmes aimed mainly at individual benefactors of Provincial Funds together with the National Fund, in order to achieve cohesion of action, efficiency and accumulation of public funds, was emphasized.
Celem opracowania jest wskazanie roli publicznych instytucji w zakresie finansowania zadań inwestycyjnych z zakresu ochrony powietrza na przykładzie Wojewódzkiego Funduszu Ochrony Środowiska i Gospodarki Wodnej w Szczecinie. Wykorzystano metodę analityczno-opisową na podstawie dostępnych danych wtórnych. W ocenie jakości powietrza wykorzystano publikowane dane Instytutu Ochrony Środowiska z podziałem na źródła emisji oraz dane zawarte w „Rocznych ocenach jakości powietrza w woj. zachodniopomorskim” (GIOŚ). Zarówno w ujęciu krajowym, jak i regionalnym obserwuje się problemy z jakością powietrza, co wiąże się z przekroczeniami emisji zanieczyszczeń. W opracowaniu odniesiono się tylko do emisji SO₂, NOₓ oraz pyłów w latach 2015- 2018, wskazując znaczenie emisji powierzchniowej i liniowej w tworzeniu przekroczeń. Analizie poddano wydatkowanie środków statutowych WFOŚiGW w Szczecinie na działania z zakresu ochrony atmosfery w badanym okresie, wskazując konieczność podjęcia intensywnych działań zmierzających do uzyskania znaczących efektów ekologicznych i efektywnego wykorzystania pieniędzy publicznych. Podkreślono znaczenie prowadzenia wspólnych programów pomocowych, skierowanych głównie do beneficjentów indywidualnych funduszy wojewódzkich z narodowym funduszem w celu spójności działań, efektywności i koncentracji środków publicznych.

Within the Institute of Environmental Protection - National Research Institute the Central Emission Database is being established. The Database will cover the most important emission sectors from anthropogenic activities, including usage of motor vehicles. The intensity of emissions of individual pollutants is the input data to air pollution dispersion models. Based on calculations performed by the air pollution dispersion models concentration of pollutants dispersed in atmospheric air (pollution immission) is provided. The annual average immision for a selected place in Poland is a measure of the threat to environment. In order to determine the intensity of pollutant emissions from motor vehicles it is necessary to recognize the intensity of vehicle motion and the volume of emission of pollutants depending on the type of vehicle motion. The task presented in this article is to determine the characteristics of pollutant emissions from motor vehicles depending on the type of their motion. The mean value of vehicle speeds was used to characterize the type of vehicle motion. The emission of pollutants from vehicles is therefore characterized by the dependence of road emissions of pollutants on the average speed of vehicles. The characteristics were determined for cumulated categories of motor vehicles: passenger cars, light commercial vehicles as well as heavy duty trucks and buses. The results of the inventory of pollutant emissions from motor vehicles in Poland in 2016 were used to determine the characteristics of pollutant emissions.

The main objective of the paper was to show the relationship of greenhouse gas emissions by agriculture with economic development and agricultural production parameters in the European Union. All EU Member States were selected for research purposefully. The research period concerned the years 2004-2017. The sources of materials were EUROSTAT data, literature on the subject. For the analysis and presentation of materials, descriptive, tabular, graphic methods, dynamics based on a constant basis, Gini concentration coefficient, concentration analysis using the Lorenz curve, Pearson's linear correlation coefficients were used. Agriculture is one of the major economic sectors responsible for greenhouse gas emissions. In 2004-2017, emissions from this section slightly decreased in the EU. There was a wide variation between countries. Economically developing countries increased emissions, while developed countries maintained them at a similar level. Greenhouse gas emissions were highly concentrated in several EU countries. These were the countries with the most developed agriculture. In the years 2004-2017, there were no changes in the level of emission concentration. The level of greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture depended on the economic and agricultural situation in the country. The regularities were in many cases straightforward, as for the relationship of greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture with the value of animal production, cattle population, and the use of mineral fertilizers and manure production. This close relationship resulted from the fact that livestock production was the part of agriculture that generated the most greenhouse gases.
Celem głównym pracy było ukazanie zależności emisji gazów cieplarnianych przez rolnictwo z rozwojem gospodarczym i parametrami produkcji rolniczej w krajach Unii Europejskiej. W sposób celowy wybrano do badań wszystkie kraje członkowskie Unii Europejskiej. Okres badań dotyczył lat 2004-2017. Źródłami materiałów były dane EUROSTAT, literatura przedmiotu. Do analizy i prezentacji materiałów zastosowano metody opisową, tabelaryczną, graficzną, wskaźniki dynamiki o podstawie stałej, współczynnik koncentracji Giniego, analiza koncentracji za pomocą krzywej Lorenza, współczynniki korelacji liniowej Pearsona. Rolnictwo jest jednym z ważniejszych działów gospodarki odpowiedzialnych za emisję gazów cieplarnianych. W latach 2004-2017 emisja wynikająca z tego działu nieznacznie zmniejszyła się w UE. Występowało duże zróżnicowanie pomiędzy krajami. Państwa rozwijające się gospodarczo zwiększały emisję, zaś rozwinięte utrzymywały ją na podobnym poziomie. Emisja gazów cieplarnianych była mocno skoncentrowana w kilku państwach UE. Były to państwa z najbardziej rozwiniętym rolnictwem. W latach 2004-2017 nie zaszły żadne zmiany w poziomie koncentracji emisji. Poziom emisji gazów cieplarnianych z rolnictwa był uzależniony od sytuacji gospodarczej i w zakresie rolnictwa w kraju. Prawidłowości były w wielu przypadkach prostoliniowe, jak dla relacji emisji gazów cieplarnianych z rolnictwa z wartością produkcji zwierzęcej, pogłowiem bydła, czy zużyciem nawozów mineralnych i produkcją obornika. Ten ścisły związek wynikał z faktu, że produkcja zwierzęca była tą częścią rolnictwa, która generowała najwięcej gazów cieplarnianych.

Energy efficiency has a central role to play in achieving decarbonisation targets in the transport system by changing the demand for mobility (eg. by influencing on peoples behaviors) and improving the performance of the fleet. In recent years there has been an increase of use of private transport, partly due to the recent pandemic and the reduced choice of public transport. People's travel habits have changed in frequency and motivation due to the reduced number of seats on public transport, due to social distancing but also due to online education and teleworking. This increase of use private cars has led to an increase in environmental emissions as a result of the high proportion of vehicles with combustion engines in urban areas. The highest concentrations have been recorded at road intersections and in particular at roundabout configurations where there is a higher number of stop-and-go's overall. The increasing importance of air pollution from vehicle traffic has suggested that environmental considerations should be added to these aspects as a criterion for intersection design. Several studies in the literature analyze the environmental emissions generated by vehicle traffic using different methods such as on-site recording, mathematical modeling of dispersion phenomena, micro-simulation of vehicle traffic, use of appropriately equipped vehicles with sensors. This paper presents a comparison between the results obtained from the Portable Emission Measurement System (PEMS) and the results obtained from the VERSIT+ emission model. Specifically, using a Portable Emission Measurement Systems (PEMS) installed on a series of test cars, instantaneous CO2 and NOX emissions were measured on repeated trips along two-lane roundabout intersections. The study was carried out by examining a selected two-lane roundabout in the city of Rzeszow (Poland) using 9 different vehicles fueled by petrol, diesel, and LPG. The results show that the investigated VERSIT+ emission model used led to an inaccuracies in the calculation of CO2 and NOx emissions. Furthermore, current micro-scale emission models may not estimate emissions of harmful exhaust components with sufficient accuracy due to the specificities of roundabout driving. Therefore, there is a strong demand for the development of new emission models, adapted to the driving behavior of drivers appropriate for different infrastructure objects such as roundabouts

Samples of PM2.5 fraction (particles with aerodynamic diameter ≤2.5 mu m) of air particulates were collected in winter 2011 and summer 2012 in Cracow, Poland. The concentrations of PM2.5 were 50 ±23 mu g/m3 (wintertime) and 16 ± 6 mu g/mV (summertime). The energy dispersive X-Ray fluorescence method was used for the determination of the concentrations of PM2.5-related elements. Principal component analysis and multilinear regression analysis were used to determine source contributions to ambient concentrations of PM2.5. In wintertime, the sources of air pollution were identified as municipal emission, steel and ferrous industry (49.2%), traffic (37.8%) and other, not identified sources (13%), whereas during summer, they were traffic (53%), steel and ferrous industry (18%), and not identified sources (29%).
