Opis:
To establish the coating conditions for 57 Co, non-radioactive Co ions are dissolved in an acid solution and electroplated on to a rhodium plate. The thermal diffusion of electroplated Co into a rhodium matrix was studied to apply a 57 Co Mössbauer source. The procedure to form a Co deposited onto Rh foil was established using two different electroplating baths: the acid-based buffer (pH 3) containing boric acid, sodium chloride, and saccharin, and the alkaline-based buffer (pH 10) containing hydrazine hydrate and ammonium citrate. The influence of different annealing conditions was investigated. From the results, the best diffusion degree of electrodeposited Co onto the rhodium matrix was obtained in an annealing process performed at 1100°C for 3 h in vacuum over 10-5 hPa.

In this study, variations in the contact resistance of electroplated Au-Fe alloy layers with Fe content were investigated. The contact resistance of electroplated Au-Fe alloy layers that were subject to thermal aging at 260°C in the atmosphere, tended to increase significantly with an increase in the Fe content. Through an analysis method employing X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS/ESCA) and Auger electron spectroscopy (AES), Ni oxides, such as NiO and Ni2O3, on the surface of the thermally aged electroplated Au-Fe alloy layers were observed. It is believed that the Ni oxide existing on the surface diffused from the underlying electroplated Ni layers to the surface through the grain boundaries in the electroplated Au-Fe layers during the thermal aging. As the Fe content in the electroplated Au-Fe layers increased, the grain size decreased. As the grain size decreases, more Ni oxide was detected on the surface. Therefore, with a rise in the Fe content, more Ni diffuses to the surface via grain boundaries, and more Ni oxide is formed on the surface of the electroplated Au-Fe layers, increasing the contact resistance of the electroplated Au-Fe alloy layers.

We suggested previously a cheap and simple way to decontaminate two ligand-containing rinsing waters of metal finishing. Both copper diphosphate containing rinsing wastewater and acidic zinc ammonium containing rinsing wastewater may be decontaminated by mixing with each other, which results in precipitation of solid solutions of copper-zinc-potassium-ammonium diphosphates. This way of decontamination requires no expensive reagents since only a small amount of H2SO4 is needed for pH adjustment. 80-99.5 % of environmentally dangerous substances, viz. zinc, copper and diphosphate, are removed from the mixture. However, Cu2+ and Zn2+ amounts in filtrates significantly exceed discharge consent level (DCL). Moreover, high concentrations of undesirable diphosphate and ammonium ions, which cause the eutrophication of natural water reservoirs, are present in the filtrates. Depending on the waste water composition of the specific plant and the environment protection requirements the goals of the decontamination may be as follows: 1.) To remove Cu2+ and Zn2+ ions below DCL, 2.) To remove Cu2+ and Zn2+ ions below DCL and additionally to lower the amount of phosphates, 3.) To remove Cu2+ and Zn2+ ions below DCL and additionally to lower the amount of phosphates and ammonium. Our investigation has shown, that goal 1 can be easily and cheaply achieved in industry by using lime, goal 2 – by using lime and spent steel etching solution or phosphogypsum. Goal 3 was achieved by precipitating barely soluble fine crystalline MgNH4PO4 .6H2O. It has been determined, that at optimal conditions as much as 95% of NH4 + ions are precipitated, both residual c Cu2+ and c Zn2+ < DCL, and the concentration of soluble phosphates is reduced 5-40 fold.

Opis:
Copper wires are covered with various coatings for many different applications. The most popular are tin based coatings and both their thickness and quality have been standardized by means of appropriate standard specifications. Copper wires intended for photovoltaic cables are subjected to especially high requirements due to their exceptionally long operating time and extremely unfavourable working conditions. Tin coatings are applied using the electroplating method and generally a fluoroborate bath is used during the process, however, it has been proved to be a health hazard in general and harmful to the environment as a whole. The paper presents the research results of a new ecological methane-sulfonate bath which does not form hazardous waste in the process. The examples of tin coatings of various thickness and the way of obtaining them at varying electrodeposition speeds at constant current or constant speed with varying current intensity were analysed. It has been determined that the use of the new electroplating bath is not only beneficial from an ecological point of view, but also in terms of the coating quality and efficiency of the process.

The Sn-Ag-Cu-based solder paste screen-printing method has primarily been used to fabricate Bi2Te3-based thermoelectric (TE) modules, as Sn-based solder alloys have a low melting temperature (approximately 220°C) and good wettability with Cu electrodes. However, this process may result in uneven solder thickness when the printing pressure is not constant. Therefore, we suggested a novel direct-bonding method between the Bi2Te3-based TE elements and the Cu electrode by electroplating a 100 μm Sn/ 1.3 μm Pd/ 3.5 μm Ni bonding layer onto the Bi2Te3-based TE elements. It was determined that there is a problem with the amount of precipitation and composition depending on the pH change, and that the results may vary depending on the composition of Pd. Thus, double plating layers were formed, Ni/Pd, which were widely commercialized. The Sn/Pd/Ni electroplating was highly reliable, resulting in a bonding strength of 8 MPa between the thermoelectric and Cu electrode components, while the Pd and Ni electroplated layer acted as a diffusion barrier between the Sn layer and the Bi2Te3 TE. This process of electroplating Sn/Pd/Ni onto the Bi2Te3 TE elements presents a novel method for the fabrication of TE modules without using the conventional Sn-alloy-paste screen-printing method.

This paper presents the results of research on the production of composite polyacrylonitrile (PAN) membranes with nanotubes (MWCNT), graphene (RG) and graphene oxide (GO) addition. All of the specified additions differ diametrically in terms of properties, starting from the spatial structure of the particles, to the chemical properties. The membranes were obtained using phase inversion method from a solution of N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF). Subsequently, the impact of the nano-addition on the transport and separation properties of the membranes was investigated using Millipore AMICON ultrafiltration kit. Membranes with graphene addition (PAN/RG) are characterized by the best transport properties and the highest specific permeate flux values in the range of ~913÷1006 dm3/m2×h for the working pressure of 2.0 MPa. In order to test the separation properties, electroplating wastewater generated in one of the Silesian galvanizing plants was used. The qualitative and quantitative composition of the wastewater was tested by means of UV-Vis spectrophotometer (HACH) and absorption atomic spectrometry (AAS). The ultrafiltration process carried out on composite membranes allows for the complete removal of phosphate ions and ~88÷94% removal of iron from the waste water. The rejection coefficient of the remaining metals is high: ~35÷85% for copper and ~17÷100% for cadmium.

The work studies the process of Сd2+ and Zn2+ cations transfer through a RALEX®CM-PES 11–66 cation-exchange membrane and the cations reduction as metals on the cathodes at the cathode chambers of the electrochemical units with a view to prevent the hydrosphere contamination with the electroplating solutions. Electrolysis of the solutions that imitated the possible composition of the passivating baths contained 50 g/l sodium dichromate, 10 g/l sulfuric acid and impurity ions of Сd2+ and Zn2+ in various concentrations. The designed passivation solutions with certain amount of impurity ions in the colour solution were forcibly mixed. The impact of the impurity ions concentration in the colour solution and of a forced mixing on the metal reduction was studied. Regularity in the increased metal reduction dependent on the metal concentration was found and the conditions favouring the ion migration through the cation-exchange membrane due to forced mixing were defined.

Opis:
Zinc coatings obtained in electrolytic zinc plating differ in terms of corrosion resistance and their visual aspect depending on the brightener and basic components used. In order to achieve industrial properties and a desired appearance of the coatings, commercial organic additives made by Galvano-Partners and Dipsol were used. It has been shown that a greater effect on corrosion resistance can be achieved when the same passivation is applied to different zinc substrates. Electrolytically applied zinc from a zinc chloride solution and with thin-film passivation shows a higher polarization resistance after 24 h compared to a coating obtained using two technologies utilizing (alkaline) baths based on sodium zincate, despite having the same conversion coating. In the aspect of one electrolytic zinc coating with different chromate coatings, disproportions between the successive conversion technologies are noted in the polarization resistance. Potentiodynamic curves describing a zinc coating with different chromate layers applied indicate a major variation in the barrier properties of the studied material.
W zależności od wykorzystanego składnika wybłyszczającego oraz składników podstawowych otrzymywane powłoki cynkowe z cynkowania elektrolitycznego różnią się pod względem odporności korozyjnej oraz wizualnie. By uzyskać właściwości przemysłowe oraz określony wygląd powłok, wykorzystano komercyjne dodatki organiczne firm Galvano-Partners oraz Dipsol. Jeszcze większy wpływ na odporność korozyjną ma zastosowanie pasywacji chemicznej przez wytworzenie powłok konwersyjnych na powłokach cynkowych. Istotne różnice daje nawet zastosowanie tej samej pasywacji na różnym podłożu cynkowym: cynk nałożony elektrolitycznie w kąpieli sporządzonej na bazie chlorku cynku (zwanej słabo kwaśną) i z pasywacją cienkopowłokową (0,07 μm ±0,03 μm) wykazuje po 24 h wyższą rezystancję polaryzacyjną w porównaniu z powłoką wytworzoną zgodnie z dwoma technologiami, w których wykorzystuje się kąpiele sporządzone na bazie cynkanu sodu (zwane alkalicznymi), pomimo tej samej powłoki konwersyjnej. W wypadku takich samych powłok cynkowych wytworzonych elektrolitycznie, lecz pokrytych różnymi powłokami konwersyjnymi uzyskanymi chemicznie w wyniku zastosowania kąpieli sporządzonych na bazie związków chromu trójwartościowego obserwuje się różną odporność korozyjną w zależności od zastosowanych technologii wykonywania powłok konwersyjnych. Krzywe potencjodynamiczne otrzymane dla próbek z powłoką cynkową z nałożonymi różnymi warstwami konwersyjnymi wskazują na zróżnicowanie odporności korozyjnej badanego materiału.
