Opis:
Over time, the weapons have been based on mechanical energy (bows, catapults) and chemical energy (guns, missiles), however, at the moment, more and more weapons are designed using electromagnetic energy (railgun, coilgun). The focus of this paper is to obtain the desired muzzle velocities of a projectile according to the existent current. In the first part of the paper, the railgun and coilgun design are presented along with their most important advantages. Based on these observations, a new design of an electromagnetic launch system is presented. Next, Maxwell interactive software package was used that applies the finite element method (FEM) to analyze and solve 3D electromagnetic field problems in order to analyze the variation of acceleration force, speed in time. All simulation data shows that this design has a great potential, because of the adaptability to different applications.

Opis:
In this paper, complex signal analyses of ground penetrating radar (GPR) field data over an area of farmland in Krakow were interpreted alongside the basic filtered field data. The farmland was simulated with varying degrees of soil compaction induced by tractor movement. The focus of the study was the delineation of inherent characteristics of media through which the electromagnetic energy travelled. Fourteen GPR profiles were acquired from the area. The field data were subjected to pre- and post-processing prior to its the presentation and interpretation. Advance analysis operations on the field data which resorted in different attributes reveal more about the effects of the compaction on the soil than indicated by the basic filtered field data. Better resolution of subsurface layers boundary and lateral variation in the physical properties of the traversing media were well elucidated. The results have demonstrated that an advanced signal processing such as used in the study has ability to depict subtle characteristics of the propagating media.

Opis:
It is shown that the thermodynamic form of the equations describing processes in current-carrying systems is more general than Maxwell's equations. The erroneousness of his concept of a single electromagnetic field has been revealed. On the basis of the thermodynamic derivation of the Maxwell equations proposed earlier in their field form, a critical analysis of the postulates laid down in the basis of its electromagnetic theory of light is given, and its internal and external inconsistency is revealed. Numerous experimental data are presented, which indicate the existence of non-electromagnetic radiation. The conclusion is made that the theory of Maxwell is essentially limited and that it is necessary to develop a more general concept of light based on the existence of non-baryonic matter with properties identical to the ether and free from the contradictions of the electromagnetic theory.

Opis:
The state of knowledge in the field of conversion of energy of mechanical vibrations into electrical energy using nonlinear electromagnetic generators is presented. The principle of operation of the considered converters is based on the Faraday law. The electromotive force is induced by the relative movement of the coil or permanent magnets under impact of externally applied vibrations. In order to diminish the disadvantages of conventional generators, namely the narrow frequency bandwidth, in recent years the nonlinear systems were introduced that exhibit the nonlinear resonance phenomenon. Broadening the frequency bandwidth, in which the power generated by the system is relatively high, is realized via introduction of nonlinear force into system kinematics. Designing such systems becomes a big challenge. Based on thorough survey of recent publications as well as on own expertise in the field, the work compares a few concepts of nonlinear electromechanical minigenerators in term of their functional characteristics and design problems. Sample calculations of frequency characteristics using time- and frequency-domain models are presented.

The paper presents the coupled static and dynamic mechanical–electromagnetic finite element analyses of an electromechanical vibration energy harvesting converter with permanent–magnet excitation. The system consists of a small, milliwatt power range, linear–motion generator connected to a cantilever–beam spring element. The finite element equations derived for the mechanical part of the system according to the 1–D Timoshenko beam theory are coupled strongly with those describing the 2–D distribution of magnetic field in the generator and those associated with the electric circuit. The considered electromechanical coupling allows for prediction of static and dynamic response of the system subjected to action of externally applied force. The static displacement of the moving element is computed via solution of the nonlinear system of equations and is used as an initial solution in dynamic analysis. For computation of the dynamic response of the system the time–stepping procedure based on the Crank– Nicolson discretisation schema is applied. The models are positively validated against the measurements carried out on the laboratory test–stand.

The paper presents study of a pseudo-magnetic levitation system (pseudo-maglev) dedicated for energy harvesting. The idea rely on motion of a pseudo-levitating magnet in a coil’s terminal. The study based on real prototype harvester system, which in the pendulum dynamic vibration absorber is applied. For some parameters, the stability loss caused by the period doubling bifurcation is detected. The coexistence of two stable solutions, one of which is much better for energy harvesting is observed. The influence of the pseudo-maglev parameters on the recovered current and stability of the periodic solutions is presented in detail. The obtained results show, that the best energy recovery occurs for the high pseudo-maglev stiffness and close to the coil resistance. The amplitude’s excitation, the load resistances and the coupling coefficient strongly influence on the system’s response.

As the particles originating from point-like entities are associated with infinite self energies, a postulate, that the scalar-potential associated with particles are bounded by a Planck scale potential is introduced. By defining the self energy of a particle, equivalences between charge-energy and mass-energy are obtained. The electromagnetic energy-momentum equation, de-Broglie’s electromagnetic wave-length and frequency for a charge particle in motion are presented resolving the “4/3” discrepancy. The non-covariance nature of the present classical electrodynamics is discussed and how the proposed postulate makes it a fully covariant theorem with the rest of the classical electrodynamics is presented. A way electromagnetic energy-momentum equation could potentially resolve the stability-problem of a charge particle is discussed and thereby a theoretical explanation to electron’s spin is presented.

Such compensation circuits operating with resonant frequencies at soft switching conditions additionally allow for reduction of switching losses in power semiconductor devices of converters. The consideration has been illustrated and verified by experimental results measured on two different test stands (50 kW with planar coils and with two 12 kW receiver coils) built in a laboratory of the Łukasiewicz Research Network – Electrotechnical Institute.

The non-uniform air gap in an electrical machine caused by rotor eccentricity creates an asymmetrical flux-density distribution in the air gap. This can affect the nominal torque produced by the machine. Eccentricity also produces forces that act on the rotor which may also have an effect on the torque. Thus, it is important to know how the torque of the machine behaves. In this paper, the torque of a cage induction machine is studied when the machine has dynamic eccentricity. The study is performed using the finite element method and a magnetic vector potential formulation. The torque is calculated by the method of energy balance. The harmonic components of the torque are also analyzed. The results show that the machine under eccentricity does not exhibit the same torque as a normal healthy machine. The harmonic components around the first principal slot harmonic is most affected.

In this research, a hybrid electromagnetic actuator is proposed to coordinate the contradictions between dynamic performance and energy consumption of an electromagnetic suspension. The hybrid electromagnetic suspension (HEMS) is configured to operate in the passive energy regeneration mode, active control ride comfort mode or active control driving safety mode depending on the road excitation frequency. Then, the HEMS system is modeled. The simulation results show that the HEMS can automatically switch between different modes, and realize an effective coordination between dynamic performance and energy saving. Finally, a quarter car test is conducted, which verifies the effectiveness of the multi-mode switching control.

Opis:
According to Directive 2013/35/EU, any assessment of hazards associated with exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMF) in the workplace needs an evaluation of quantities characterizing biophysical effects caused inside human bodies by exposure. Such quantities (induced electric field or specific energy absorption rate) may be evaluated by computer simulations in virtual models (phantoms), representing interaction between EMF and the worker’s body with respect to modelling the EMF source, the structure of the working environment and the human body. The paper describes the effects of the properties of various virtual phantoms used in recently published studies on various aspects of EMF exposure with respect to their possible involvement in assessing occupational electromagnetic hazards as required by Directive 2013/35/ EU. The parameters of phantoms have been discussed with reference to: dimensions, posture, spatial resolution and electric contact with the ground. Such parameters should be considered and specified, and perhaps also standardized, in order to ensure that the numerical simulations yield reliable results in a compliance analysis against exposure limits or in an exposure assessment for EMF-related epidemiological studies. The outcomes of the presented examination of virtual phantoms used in numerical simulations show that they can be effectively used in the assessment of compliance with the exposure limits specified by Directive 2013/35/EU, but various other factors should be also considered, e.g., the relationship between phantom posture and a realistic exposure situation (flexible phantoms use), limited resolution preventing reliable evaluation of physical estimators of exposure, or a non-realistic area of phantom surface in contact with the ground.
