Opis:
In the paper the computer software for determining the optimal working point of electric motors for fan (and pump) drive systems is presented. The main use of this software is the preliminary designing of permanent magnet synchronous motor for such type of drives. The second task of the software is determining the load characteristic of the fan system (pump system), i.e. relationship between loading torque and angular speed. The obtained characteristics can be used in the designing of control system for fan or pump drives.

There was presented a frequency multiplication of a single, binary rotor position feedback signal implementation in the article. This technique was necessary to achieve wide-speed control range and improved dynamics. In the beginning a basics of the switched reluctance motors construction were described as the control system challenges were. A nature of the reduced up to one position feedback signal interface line was shown as the reference for phase locked loop system. The problem of low resolution and asymmetrical shape of the mechanical position sensor was described with its solving by embedded system optimized SPLL loop usage. There were appropriate theory dependencies introduced for phase locked loop system as confirming experimental results were shown. In the summary, conclusions were made and the further research steps were proposed. Additionally, custom made drive system for switched reluctance motor and the motor as the control object itself were introduced.

The paper is a discussion on ground-based laboratory tests of the aircraft’s electric propulsion system. The tests were intended to find relationships between environmental conditions and characteristics of the aircraft electric motor. The object under examination was a brushless DC motor AXI 2820/14 of 360 W power. Presented and discussed is the AFIT-made test bench that enables suitable, pre-planned experiments to be carried out. Discussed are also procedures of taking measurements of electric motor characteristics, followed with discussion of results. Presented selected issues of parametric description of gained results. With measurements as the basis, the relationships, first, between the electric motor’s efficiency and temperature, and second, between both the applied power and the power output (effective power) and the ambient temperature have been found. The most important findings of the testing work are, first, that the pressure does not affect the characteristics of the electric motor’s performance and second, determination of how temperature affects these characteristics. The results gained have formed the basis for the most vital flight parameters of electrically driven aircraft to be found, including the energy consumption essential for the flight range and endurance. All these findings give grounds for standardization calculations that consist in recalculation of characteristics determined in the course of aircraft flight-testing. Because of their representativeness, they also prove good illustrative examples to demonstrate properties of aircraft’s electric propulsion system.

Along with the improvement of the existing switchgears by replacing unreliable elements, global companies create its new types in order to improve the reliability, operating speed and to achieve high speeds of motion on pointers. Therefore in this work the way of modernization of the existing turnouts is offered based on switched reluctance electric motor, and also the design of direct-drive turnout on the basis of linear electric motor.
Wraz z poprawą parametrów eksploatowanych rozjazdów kolejowych uzyskiwaną przez wymianę zawodnych części składowych, światowi producenci tworzą nowe rozwiązania, które mają na celu poprawę niezawodności i szybkości działania oraz umożliwiają osiągnięcie większej prędkości przestawiania urządzenia. W artykule przedstawiono kierunek modernizacji obecnie eksploatowanych rozjazdów, polegający na zastosowaniu elektrycznego silnika reluktancyjnego lub napędu na bazie elektrycznego silnika liniowego.

The reported project aimed at examining properties and purposefulness of use of modern electromagnetic bearings for a screw propeller in a prototype version of a synchronous ring motor with rare earths magnets. Bearings of this type generate electromagnetic forces which keep the rotor in a state of levitation. The rotating machine with magnetic bearings can work in any environment which reveals diamagnetic properties (air, vacuum, water, liquid gases, etc.). However, a basic quality of the magnetic bearings is elimination of cooling installation and lubrication, which is necessary for proper operation of rotating machines with rolling and slide bearings, undergoing wear with time. Therefore the lifetime of the machine supported on magnetic bearings is incomparable with others. Also torque losses on this bearing are the smallest, compared to all known types of bearings. Ring thrusters can be used as the main drive for relatively small sea-going and inland vessels, and as manoeuvring drive for ships of arbitrary size, especially for AES (All Electric Ship) type vessels. This type of propeller is extremely useful for any types of abyssal vessels, autonomous and remotely controlled, and on submarines. It can also be used as effective generator of electric current for charging batteries in towing trains, barges for instance. The project consisted of three research tasks: 1. Designing, manufacturing and examination of a magnetic bearing on-line controlled by a digital controller, 2. Manufacturing a model of a ring thruster and examination of characteristics of a propeller mounted in the ring, 3. Examining the ferrofluid seal. A concept of the new thruster is a consequence of investigations carried out in Poland upon propellers and magnetic bearings in years 2001-2005.

The current interest in the development of hybrid vehicles is a response to serious effects of road transport on the environment over recent years. In addition, vehicles equipped with this type of drive combine the advantages of a conventional diesel engine and electric motor. This results in higher system efficiency while reducing emissivity. This work seeks to demonstrate the effect of electric power on the total power of a hybrid vehicle. The research on the chassis dynamometer (MAHA LPS 3000) of the hybrid sports car, Honda CRZ, has been performed in three modes of operation: normal, economical and sport. The obtained results are presented in the form of graphs of external engine characteristics, where the influence of electric power on the system is visible. The tested vehicle is equipped with sixth version of Honda’s Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) technology, which is the crucial system, assisting the combustion engine in order to provide higher performance and better fuel economy.

This paper focuses on the design and control of an active suspension system, where a tubular linear motor is integrated into a spring damper system of a vehicle. The spring takes up the weight of the vehicle. Therefore the electric linear motor can be designed very compact as it has to provide forces to adjust the damping characteristic only. Design and construction of the active suspension system, a control strategy and validation measurements at a test bench are presented.

Opis:
The brushless machine with axial flux and permanent magnets (AFPM), also called the disc-type machine, is an interesting alternative to its cylindrical radial flux counterpart due to the disk shape, compact construction and high torque density. AFPM disk motors are particularly suitable for electrical vehicles, robots, valve control, pumps, centrifuges, fans, machine tools and manufacturing. The first parts of the paper compare of drive system with disk-motor to the motor with cylindrical shape, as well as disk-motor with radial and axial flux. Next part of the contribution describes types of the disk motors and their construction. The 3D magnetic simulation and analysis of the disk stepper motor with permanent magnets is being subject of the article, too. The unique disc-type profile of the rotor and stator of AFPM machines makes it possible to generate diverse and interchangeable designs. AFPM machines can be designed as single air gap or multiple air gaps machines, with slotted, slotless or even totally ironless armature. Low power AFPM machines are frequently designed as machines with slotless windings and permanent surface magnets.

This document deals with electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) of universal motor operating at AC and DC power supply. Universal motors are used in a variety of applications and can be operated either at AC or DC supply current. The advantages of universal motors are especially high starting torque, very compact design and high running speeds. The drawback consists in the fact that the commutator and arcing brushes create electromagnetic interference (EMI), ozone and noise. This paper presents the results of oscilloscopic measurement of disturbing magnetic field in proximity of a universal motor at various speeds at AC and DC operation mode. The time derivation of the magnetic flux density is converted by an inductive coil to a voltage to be observed by oscilloscope.

Opis:
A comparison of the noise emitted by an asynchronous electric motor for various supply options has been presented in this paper. The star connection, one phase connection (with a run capacitor) and the use of an inverter have been taken under consideration. The test results show the effect of supply options of the electric motor on the sound power level, the shape of the noise spectra and directivity changes of the sound emitted by the tested asynchronous electric motor.

In the article, the authors describe, using the example of a selected class of technical means, their concept of replacing the “classical” linear management (exploitation) model with a circular economy (CE) model. An example of an object for which the authors plan to test the feasibility of the concept presented above is a household washing machine driven by a DC motor. The description of this object included in the article considers its complexity and multiplicity of assemblies, sub-assemblies, and elements. The DC electric motor driving the washing machine was considered the most important from the point of view of the created model, especially in terms of the possibility of maintenance and repair. For such an engine, the article presents the maintenance and disposal model as elements of the concept of building a ‘circular’ business model. The authors assumed that the formal basis for such a model would be the so-called circular model. The methodology and plan of the research carried out at Super Asia washing machine company in Pakistan were introduced, and the research results were shown. With the use of these results, an attempt was made to assess the requirements that the application of the CE business model places on manufacturers of a selected class of devices, both in their manufacture, repair, sharing and dematerialization. The concept of further research is described at the end of the article.

Dielectromagnets, also called bonded magnets, are permanent magnets produced by combining hard magnetic powder with dielectric. They have many advantages. One of these for isotropic dielectromagnets is the possibility of multi - pole magnetization in all directions. Dielectromagnets from Nd-Fe-B melt-spun ribbon have good magnetic properties, better than sintered ferrite magnets. Dielectromagnets open new possibilities for the construction of electric machines. The paper presents the advantages of multi - pole dielectromagnets, allowing to replace the multi - pole glued constructions of bipolar permanent magnets. The paper presents the known methods of multi - pole magnetization of permanent magnets, and new solutions for simplification of electric motor designs. Also presented are examples of application of multi - pole Nd-Fe-B dielectromagnets.

In this paper, the authors present a computational model of a fin-based air cooling system for Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine (PMSM) electric motors. The model can be used as a method for fast and efficient feasibility studies of air cooling for PMSM motors in hybrid-electric or all-electric aviation applications, supplementing further research (thermal resistance networks, and FEA/CFD-CHT models). In the paper, authors provide temperature distributions along the fin height which are calculated and presented for a straight fin, followed by heat transfer rate from fin surface and fin efficiency. A parameter to compare different fin materials for aviation applications is introduced – heat transfer rate from the fin to fin mass ratio. Aluminum and copper fins are compared. Different shapes of straight fin are considered and compared. The above parameters and comparison are then calculated and given for circular fins. Parameters of the whole fin-based air cooling system for specific 140 kW PMSM motor are calculated and presented.

Opis:
A new structure to design observers for linear systems is presented in this work. The key step is the construction of two layers where the first consists of multiple observers and the second connects them providing the weighted estimation state. The main difficulty is to find a new feedback which is responsible for control weights. To define observation law, we rely on multi observers from the first layer. The proposed structure significantly improves the transient characteristics of the observation process, which is shown in illustrative examples.

The article describes the evolution of Škoda electric locomotives, starting with vehicles supplied with 3 kV DC and 25 kV 50 Hz, initially featuring a resistor start-up (for DC supply), optionally high-voltage voltage regulation (for AC supply), and later with a pulse (thyristor) start-up. Th e railway network in Czechoslovakia was initially electrified with direct voltage (including the Prague junction); however, learning the advantages of the 25 kV 50 Hz voltage developed in Germany led to some new sections of the ČSD network being electrified with alternating current. At the same time, Czechoslovakia’s national manufacturer Škoda developed vehicles (locomotives, EMUs) suitable for DC and AC operation. Initially, these were single-system vehicles, as the development of multi-system ones was technically complicated at the time (only short-series production was practiced). The advent of pulse-starting traction motors not only provided more economical and simpler traction motor control but also simplified the construction of multi-system vehicles. The article discusses the specifics of both engine start-up systems and the evolution of DC and AC vehicle design and operation.
