The overall objective of the IDEAS project is to develop advanced packaging for power supply components and new generation memory systems applicable to Electric and ICE propelled vehicles, with paying attention to considering also the aspects that have not been addressed yet in the running ENIAC and ARTEMIS Automotive projects. A major challenge related to electronic devices in the automotive applications is the reliability of power supply systems which must be capable to assure the functionality of subsystems in all operating conditions, inclusive of ageing. The control systems, which rely on multicore microcontrollers and complex software architectures, require increasingly stringent constraints from the memory devices which need to be designed for very high bandwidth, speed and reliability. In the following thesis, a few aspects of the IDEAS project will be presented: a review of important factors that affect the reliability and life-cycle endurance of NAND flash memories, multispeed gear application in electric drives and its influence on the energy efficiency. The paper is a discussion on ground-based laboratory tests of the aircraft’s electric propulsion system. The tests were intended to find relationships between environmental conditions and characteristics of the aircraft electric motor. The object under examination was a brushless DC motor AXI 2820/14 of 360 W power. Presented and discussed is the AFIT-made test bench that enables suitable, pre-planned experiments to be carried out. Discussed are also procedures of taking measurements of electric motor characteristics, followed with discussion of results. Presented selected issues of parametric description of gained results. With measurements as the basis, the relationships, first, between the electric motor’s efficiency and temperature, and second, between both the applied power and the power output (effective power) and the ambient temperature have been found. The most important findings of the testing work are, first, that the pressure does not affect the characteristics of the electric motor’s performance and second, determination of how temperature affects these characteristics. The results gained have formed the basis for the most vital flight parameters of electrically driven aircraft to be found, including the energy consumption essential for the flight range and endurance. All these findings give grounds for standardization calculations that consist in recalculation of characteristics determined in the course of aircraft flight-testing. Because of their representativeness, they also prove good illustrative examples to demonstrate properties of aircraft’s electric propulsion system.

In electric and hybrid vehicles, it is possible to recover energy from the braking process and reuse it to drive the vehicle using the batteries installed on-board. In the conditions of city traffic, the energy dissipated in the braking process constitutes a very large share of the total resistance to vehicle motion. Efficient use of the energy from the braking process enables a significant reduction of fuel and electricity consumption for hybrid and electric vehicles, respectively. This document presents an original method used to estimate the efficiency of the regenerative braking process for real traffic conditions. In the method, the potential amount of energy available in the braking process was determined on the basis of recorded real traffic conditions of the analysed vehicle. The balance of energy entering and leaving the battery was determined using the on-board electric energy flow recorder. Based on the adopted model of the drive system, the efficiency of the regenerative braking process was determined. The paper presents the results of road tests of three electric vehicles, operated in the same traffic conditions, for whom the regenerative braking efficiency was determined in accordance with the proposed model. During the identi-fication of the operating conditions of the vehicles, a global positioning system (GPS) measuring system supported by the original method of phenomenological signal correction was used to reduce the error of the measured vehicle’s altitude. In the paper, the efficiency of the re-cuperation process was defined as the ratio of the accumulated energy to the energy available from the braking process and determined for the registered route of the tested vehicle. The obtained results allowed to determine the efficiency of the recuperation process for real traffic conditions. They show that the recuperation system efficiency achieves relatively low values for vehicle No. 1, just 21%, while the highest value was achieved for vehicle No. 3, 77%. Distribution of the results can be directly related to the power of electric motors and battery capacities of the analysed vehicles.

Cells of a prototype powered wheelchair can be designed in various connections to provide different supply voltages which has impact on the efficiency of other wheelchair drive elements. The impact of cell configuration and resulting battery voltage on overall efficiency of power elements have been studied to determine the optimal configuration and voltage of the pack. A brief description of a battery energy storage system was given, and main requirements and variables were introduced to reveal the flexibility of the battery design. The efficiency versus supply voltage plots of a drive converter and battery charger were presented and discussed to find the optimal battery voltage. The motor design was analyzed from the fill factor perspective. The calculated efficiency parameters of all drive power elements were used to discuss and select an optimal battery cell configuration.

The article presents the methodology for light two-wheeled electric vehicle energy balance investigation using MAHA LPS 3000 chassis dynamometer. For this purpose, the laboratory tests, as well as the road tests, have been performed on the self-constructed light two-wheeled electric vehicle equipped with the 3 kW BLDC motor and the 100.8 V battery pack. The road test data have been used to set up the dynamometer parameters in order to simulate the real road drive taking into account, among others, the rolling resistances and the air drag coefficient. The overall energy consumption for the laboratory tests and the road conditions’ tests have been then compared for different vehicle speeds. In addition, based on the power and the torque characteristics measured on the MAHA chassis dynamometer, the efficiency of the vehicle electric drive system and the efficiency of the battery charging process have been calculated.

This paper represents the overall electrical energy profile and access in Bangladesh. Along with electricity access in Bangladesh strived to become the middle-income country by 2021. Bangladesh has experienced that energy consumption inclines to increase rapidly when per capita income reaches between US$ 1,000 and US$ 10,000, and a country’s growth momentum through reliable energy supply and consistent energy supply ensured by the sustainable energy. As increasing population in Bangladesh, the electric energy generation is an important dispute through the sustainable way.

Diesel main and auxiliary engines are main sources of air pollution from ships mooring in ports. Auxiliary engines are used in electrical grids that are essential for the operation of a ship. In many reports and academic publications the estimated amount of exhaust emission, calculated by means of the assumed marine auxiliary engine load factor, is used in order to assess the operation of marine power plants with respect to environmental protection. The factors influencing the marine auxiliary engine load factors are: the auxiliary engine excess power versus generator power and generator efficiency. However, these factors are rarely taken into account. In the present paper the importance of engine excess power and the efficiency of marine generating sets for the evaluation of real auxiliary engines load and exhaust emission related to it is discussed. Besides, the results of in-service experience of exhaust emission from marine auxiliary engines on the example of Ro-Pax vessel are presented.

Transformer efficiency and regulation, are to be maintained at maximum and minimum respectively by optimal loading, control, and compensation. Charging of electric vehicles at random charging stations will result in uncertain loading on the distribution transformer. The efficiency reduces and regulation increases as a consequence of this loading. In this work, a novel optimization strategy is proposed to map electric vehicles to a charging station, that is optimal with respect to the physical distance, traveling time, charging cost, the effect on transformer efficiency and regulation. Consumer and utility factors are considered for mapping electric vehicles to charging stations. An Internet of Things platform is used to fetch the dynamic location of electric vehicles. The dynamic locations are fed to a binary optimization problem to find an optimal routing table that maps electric vehicles to a charging station. A comparative study is carried out, with and without optimization, to validate the proposed methodology.

Велосипед оснащен бортовым компьютером, который может хранить информацию о движении и потреблении энергии. Приведены результаты по вопросам мощности, потребления энергии, подзарядки во время процесса торможения и т.д. Изучено потребление энергии для 3 типичных городских маршрутов.

This work put in evidence, magnetic field effect the electrical parameters of a silicon solar cell illuminated by an intense light concentration: external load electric power, conversion efficiency, fill factor, external optimal charge load. Due to the high photogeneration of a carrier in intense light illumination mode, in addition of magnetic field, we took into account the carrier gradient electric field in the base of the solar cell. Taking into account this electric field and the applied magnetic field in our model led to new analytical expressions of the continuity equation, the photocurrent and the photovoltage. In this work, we used the electric power curves versus junction dynamic velocity (Sj) to determine, according to magnetic field, the maximum electric power Pelmax and we calculate the solar cell conversion efficiency (η). We also used the J-V characteristics to determine the solar cell short circuit density current (Jcc) and the open circuit voltage (Vco) under magnetic field and we calculate the fill factor (FF). Finally, we used simultaneously the J-V characteristics and equipower curves to determine the optimal external load resistance. The results of this study have showed that the maximum electric power and the conversion efficiency are higher than those of monofacial and bifacial silicon solar cells illuminated by conventional light but they decreased with the increase of magnetic field.

Mining industry is one of the most important customers of electric motors. The most commonly used in the contemporary mining industry is alternating current machines used for processing electrical energy into mechanical energy. The operating problems and the influence of qualitative interference acting on the inputs of individual regulators to field-oriented system in the course of underground mining operations has been presented in the publication. The object of controlling the speed is a slip-ring induction motor. Settings of regulators were calculated using an evolutionary algorithm. Examination of system dynamics was performed by a computer with the use of the MATLAB / Simulink software. According to analyzes, large distortion of input signals of regulators adversely affects the rotational speed that pursued by the control system, which may cause a large vibration of the whole system and, consequently, its much faster destruction. Designed system is characterized by a significantly better resistance to interference. The system is stable with the properly selected settings of regulators, which is particularly important during the operation of machinery used in underground mining.
Branża górnicza jest jednym z ważniejszych odbiorców silników elektrycznych. Najpowszechniej stosowane w branży górniczej są obecnie maszyny prądu przemiennego służące do przetwarzania energii elektrycznej w energię mechaniczną. W artykule przedstawiono problemy eksploatacji i wpływ jakościowy zakłóceń działających na sygnały wejściowe poszczególnych regulatorów w układzie polowo-zorientowanym w warunkach górnictwa podziemnego. Obiektem sterowania prędkością obrotową jest silnik indukcyjny pierścieniowy. Nastawy regulatorów obliczono przy zastosowaniu algorytmu ewolucyjnego. Badanie dynamiki układu przeprowadzono metodą komputerową korzystając z oprogramowania MATLAB/ Simulink. Jak wynika z analiz, duże zakłócenie sygnałów wejściowych regulatorów niekorzystnie wpływa na przebieg prędkości obrotowej realizowanej przez układ sterowania, co może spowodować wystąpienie dużych drgań całego układu, a w konsekwencji jego znacznie szybsze zużycie. Przy odpowiednio dobranych nastawach regulatorów zaprojektowany układ charakteryzuje się większą odpornością na zakłócenia i jest przy tym stabilny, co jest szczególnie istotne w trakcie eksploatacji urządzeń wykorzystywanych w górnictwie podziemnym.
