Opis:
The lack of attention during the driving task is considered as a major risk factor for fatal road accidents around the world. Despite the ever-growing trend for autonomous driving which promises to bring greater road-safety benefits, the fact is today’s vehicles still only feature partial and conditional automation, demanding frequent driver action. Moreover, the monotony of such a scenario may induce fatigue or distraction, reducing driver awareness and impairing the regain of the vehicle’s control. To address this challenge, we introduce a non-intrusive system to monitor the driver in terms of fatigue, distraction, and activity. The proposed system explores state-of-the-art sensors, as well as machine learning algorithms for data extraction and modeling. In the domain of fatigue supervision, we propose a feature set that considers the vehicle’s automation level. In terms of distraction assessment, the contributions concern (i) a holistic system that covers the full range of driver distraction types and (ii) a monitoring unit that predicts the driver activity causing the faulty behavior. By comparing the performance of Support Vector Machines against Decision Trees, conducted experiments indicated that our system can predict the driver’s state with an accuracy ranging from 89% to 93%.

The goal of this article is to describe the early stage prototype of the system being able to constantly monitor and record car’s usage as well as to evaluate its driver’s performance. The solution is capable to gather information from various vehicle’s sub-systems through the OBD II protocol and utilizes a Windows Phone 8 device to transmit those data (together with a complementary GPS position) to the Windows Azure computing cloud in which the subsequent analysis takes place.

Opis:
Some health complexity happens during driving like heart problem, stroke etc. Driver’s health abnormality may also effect safety of other vehicles. So in recent years, automotive manufacturers and users are interested to implement real-time health monitoring in car system. In cardiac monitoring systems, a sensor is an important element. It is not only the type of sensor that determines the correct operation of a system, but also the processing of the registered signals. This paper analyses the influence of the sensor pressing force on the estimation of the stiffness of the artery to describe the pulse signal processing.

Opis:
The need and interest in conducting biomedical research outside the traditional laboratory is increasing. In the field testing such as in the participant's home or work environment is a growing consideration when undertaking biomedical investigation. This type of research requires at a minimum semi-autonomous computer systems that collect such data and send it back to the laboratory for processing and dissemination with the smallest amount of attendance by the participant or even the experimenter. A key aspect of supporting this type of research is the selection of the appropriate software and hardware components. These supporting systems need to be reliable, allow considerable customizability and be readily accessible but also able to be locked down. In this paper we report a set of requirements for the hardware and software for such a system. We then utilise these requirements to evaluate the use of game consoles as a hardware platform in comparison to other hardware choices. We finish by outline one particular aspect of the supporting software used to support the chosen hardware platform based on the OSGi framework.

Opis:
The introduction of digital tachographs does not bring much novelty in terms of time limits for drivers involved in road transport, but rather narrows the space for workload restrictions abuse. Combined with the telematic systems (GNSS - Global Navigation Satellite System), which in addition to tracking bring a multitude of data on the vehicle, this device allows for a direct transmission of data on driver's work in real time (the hours worked and rest-time used) into the dispatch centre of the Carrier. The paper will present the importance of monitoring the driver's activity and the observance of time limits for fleet management.
