Opis:
The port shunting yards are developed inside the area of the ports. The main activities are to receive the freight trains from the hinterland, to shunt the freight wagons according to their final destinations from the area of the port, to receive the wagons from maritime terminals, to accumulate wagons according to their destination, and to depart the freight train to the hinterland. So, it is important for port administration to have good methods to evaluate the transit capacity of port shunting yards. A feasible method is to use the discrete simulation model. In our paper, we develop one of this taking into consideration the input flow characteristics of freight trains from land network, the input flow characteristics of freight wagons from maritime terminals, the number of tracks in a port railway station, the technology used for separation of freight wagons on destinations (inside the port or from hinterland), and the duration of technological processes. From the results, we extract the values of trains and wagon sets that transit through the main areas of the railway station (Receiving Tracks, Hump(s) and Departure Tracks).

In according with the stated conception the purpose of the present work is the reconstruction of some of innumerable microstates of α phase of ferritic steels, definition of its macroparameters and their subsequent comparison with indicators of mechanical properties of industrially let out steels. The establishment of a correlation between the measured indicators of mechanical properties of already created materials and the calculated state parameters of their basic phase opens an opportunity of mechanical properties prediction of materials in dependence on their prehistory that as a matter of fact represents the central task of material science. Simulation of α-phase state of series of industrially let out ferritic steels and alloys is executed in the assumption of identity of its composition to composition of steel or alloy as a whole. The correlation between indicators of mechanical properties of steels and alloys and state parameters of their basic phase is traced.

Opis:
This article aims to examine how the theory of co-production can be connected with servitization and digitalisation and used together for the public service development with the help of discrete-event simulation modelling to highlight time-related deficiencies of a complex public service process, which is most commonly used by patchwork families. Data was taken from the Guardianship Office in Győr (Hungary), based on which in-depth interviews were conducted. Based on the legal background and the interviews, the authors of the article created the process model of the contacting procedure. Based on the model, discrete-event simulation was used to identify the process elements for potential improvement through servitization. Discrete-event simulation showed the insufficiency of national regulation regarding the whole process and weaknesses of the contacting procedures in terms of quality and success. Basic reasons were found for the dissatisfaction expressed by participants of the procedures (administrators and customers). The increasing customer demand for high quality and efficient public services and failures in the New Public Management (NPM) in Eastern European countries require other approaches to advance. The paper connects the theory of co-production and servitization in a public service context and demonstrates how a complex public service can be examined with this approach to find possible improvements. The government must change the process regulation considering the number of the cases, the workload of administrators and family types (divorced or patchwork). The emphasis should be placed on the training and experience of administrators.

Any failure on the recovery system will cause a lot of environmental damage as well as energy loss. Hereof two types of alternatives; fast opening valve system (FOVS) and seal drum system (SDS) may be installed. The focus of this article is on the decision stage to choose the most preferred option in terms of reliability assessment. The major challenge in the research problem is on changing the pressure and temperature during operational cycles, which significantly affect the reliability. In addition, the lack of historical data complicates the reliability assessment method. Hence, we proposed a hybrid approach using fault tree analysis (FTA) and the Mamdani fuzzy inference to estimate reliability response as a function of a few frequently operating pressure and temperature. Also, discrete-event simulation helped us to evaluate the system reliability at different operating conditions. The comparisons reveals that the FOVs outperforms on average of 22.4% than the SDS and it is recommended for putting into practice for purchasing.

Opis:
The combination between the design and project of container terminals and the reflect on port’s economy may be carried out through two main approaches: optimization or simulation. Although the approaches based on optimization models allow a more elegant and compact formulation of the problem, simulation models are mainly based on discrete event simulation (DES) models and help to achieve several aims: then measure this impact on port economy before and after implemented this updating overcome mathematical limitations of optimization approaches, support and make computer-generated strategies/policies more understandable, and support decision makers in daily decision processes through a “what if” approach. Several applications of DES models have been proposed and simulation results confirm that such an approach is quite effective at simulating container terminal operations. Most of the contributions in the literature develop object oriented simulation models and pursue a macroscopic approach which gathers elementary handling activities (e.g. using cranes, reach stackers, shuttles) into a few macro-activities (e.g. unloading vessels: crane-dock-reach stacker-shuttle-yard), simulate the movement of an “aggregation” of containers and therefore do not take into account the effects of container types (e.g. 20’ vs 40’, full vs empty), the incidence of different handling activities that may seem similar but show different time duration and variability/dispersion (e.g. crane unloading a container to dock or to a shuttle) and the differences within the same handling activity (e.g. stacking/loading/unloading time with respect to the tier number). Such contributions primarily focus on modeling architecture, on software implementation issues and on simulating design/real scenarios. Activity duration is often assumed to be deterministic, and those few authors that estimate specific stochastic handling equipment models do not clearly state how they were calibrated, what data were used and what the parameter Values are. Finally, no one investigates the effects of different modeling hypotheses on the simulation of container terminal performances. The focus of this paper is on the effects that different hypotheses on handling equipment models calibration may have on the simulation (discrete event) of container terminal performances. Such effects could not be negligible and should be investigated with respect to different planning horizons, such as strategic or tactical. The aim is to propose to analysts, modelers and practitioners a sort of a guideline useful to point out the strengths or weaknesses of different approaches. Drawing on the model architecture which will be affected on port economics.

Designers are facing the principal problems of effective decision making at the initial design stage of product development, which ultimately contribute to profit loss, low quality and increased time to launch the product onto the market. It requires a lot of knowledge and experience. Tools are required to analyze and ensure that crucial decisions have strong foundation before implementation. Discrete event simulation provides such a tool and has got potential to assist in decision making before final implementation. This research work aims measuring the benefits of transformation to lean product development (LPD) via simulation. Simulink-MATLAB tool was used for this purpose. The whole work is limited to design and cost estimation cells of a manufacturing company and consists of two phases. The first phase deals with the assessment of current working model of design and cost estimation cells. The areas for improvements were recognized at this phase. The proposed model for transformation to LPD was developed in the second phase. Four lean enablers namely product values, knowledge-based engineering, set-based concurrent engineering and poke-yoke were incorporated to further enhance the operation of the proposed model. This research work constitutes a useful case for practitioners. Keywords: decision making, discrete event simulation, lean product development, lean enablers

Opis:
In order to release the lateral force of pipe conveyor belt in vertical transportation, the thesis had a study of the lateral force of the conveyor belt. By making use of Janssen Principles and fractal theory, based on reasonable simplification, the author established a mathematical model of the lateral force in vertical transportation, and with the research foundation of the pipe belt conveyor for underground transportation, through solution analysis, the author found out that the change of material diameter would lead to nonlinear variation of the lateral force of the conveyor belt. Under the circumstances of different material diameter, discrete element method was adopted to simulate the lateral force of the conveyor belt, thus working out the distribution curve chart of the lateral force. To verify the reliability of the theory, the author built an experimental platform for pipe conveyor belt in vertical transportation, and experimented with five groups of materials in different diameter, working out the strain of lateral force of the characteristic conveyor belt; by comparing the theoretical result, the simulation result and the experimental result, it showed that the solution to relieving lateral force through optimization selection of material diameter put forward in this thesis was reasonable and effective. It provides theoretical reference for the design of pipe belt conveyor.

This paper presents the modeling approaches and results of numerical investigations into particle separation in a production-scale industrial centrifugal air separator. The gaseous phase was modeled using an Eulerian formulation, while the particle phase was modeled using a Lagrangian particle tracking approach. Two-way coupling between continuous and disperse phase was included and turbulence modeled using the realizable k-ε model. The resulting comprehensive system model provides correct predictions of the power consumption and of pressure losses in the device over the full operation range, and proved ability of accurately predicting the size-dependent particle separation efficiencies down to nominal particle sizes of 2 µm.

Opis:
This paper describes optimisation of a conveyor from an underground hopper intended for a coal transfer station. The original solution was designed with a chain conveyor encountered operational problems that have limited its continuous operation. The Discrete Element Modeling (DEM) was chosen to optimise the transport. DEM simulations allow device design modifications directly in the 3D CAD model, and then the simulation makes it possible to evaluate whether the adjustment was successful. By simulating the initial state of coal extraction using a chain conveyor, trouble spots were identified that caused operational failures. The main problem has been the increased resistance during removal of material from the underground hopper. Revealed resistances against material movement were not considered in the original design at all. In the next step, structural modifications of problematic nodes were made. For example, the following changes have been made: reduction of storage space or installation of passive elements into the interior of the underground hopper. These modifications made were not effective enough, so the type of the conveyor was changed from a drag chain conveyor to a belt conveyor. The simulation of the material extraction using a belt conveyor showed a significant reduction in resistance parameters while maintaining the required transport performance.

The evolution of ICT systems in the way data is accessed and used is very fast nowadays. Cloud computing is an innovative way of using and providing computing resources to businesses and individuals and it has gained a faster popularity in the last years. In this context, the user’s expectations are increasing and cloud providers are facing huge challenges. One of these challenges is fault tolerance and both researchers and companies have focused on finding and developing strong fault tolerance models. To validate these models, cloud simulation tools are used as an easy, flexible and fast solution. This paper proposes a Fault Injector Module for CloudSim tool (FIM-SIM) for helping the cloud developers to test and validate their infrastructure. FIM-SIM follows the event- driven model and inserts faults in CloudSim based on statistical distributions. The authors have tested and validated it by conducting several experiments designed to highlight the statistical distribution influence on the failures generated and to observe the CloudSim behavior in its current state and implementation.

With raising customers’ requirements and competition forces, companies face the pressure to increase both the efficiency and flexibility of production and logistic processes thatdirectly influences their management activities. This article deals especially with the processes related to chaotic storage systems using automated high bay warehouse technologies operated by traditional automated crane-based storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS) that have become popular in recent years as systems supporting the lean management philosophy in accordance with growing requirements of the fourth industrial revolution. Presented proof obligation Event-B model includes advanced algorithms for automated storage and retrieval warehouse activities that should ensure the higher efficiency and flexibility of both logistic and all consequent processes. The algorithms are based on the idea of continuous relocation of stored items during an automated stacker crane’s idle times in order to ensure faster delivery of future orders from better accessible positions. It supports automated decision-making in warehouse management systems in accordance with lean principles. The proposed solution was verified by experimental model processed by a discrete even simulation software, which confirmed its positive impact on the flexibility of storage and retrieval activities. Its implementation into the real practice increases the accuracy of warehouse management processes which directly influence the production management and other decision-making activities.

Opis:
The problem of production flow in steel casting foundry is analysed in this paper. Because of increased demand and market competition, a reorganisation of the foundry process is required, including the elimination of manual labour and the implementation of automation and robotisation of certain processes. The problem is how to determine the real difference in work efficiency between human workers and robots. We show an analysis of the production efficiency of steel casting foundry operated by either human operators or industrial robots. This is a problem from the field of Operations Research for which the Discrete Event Simulation (DES) method is used. Three models are developed, including the foundry before and after automation when taking into consideration parameters of the availability of machines, operators and robots. We apply the OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) indicator to present how the availability, performance and quality parameters influence the foundry’s productivity. In addition, stability of the simulation model was analysed. This approach allows for a better representation of real production processes and the obtained results can be used for further economic analysis.
