Opis:
The main goal of the study was to carry out the treatment of cyclic oxidation of Ti alloy (Ti-1Al-1Mn) in air atmosphere. Based on measurements of mass gain of titanium alloy samples (Ti-1Al-1Mn) the kinetic oxidation curves during cyclic annealing were determined. The oxidized surface of the titanium alloy was carefully observed with optical microscopy equipment and the geometrical development, shape and surface morphology were defined. The phase composition of the obtained oxide layers on the Ti-alloy with qualitative analysis of the X-ray were defined. Since titanium alloys are among the most widely used metallic materials in dental prosthetics the corrosion measurements in a solution simulating the environment of the oral cavity were carried out. The results confirmed that the used titanium alloy easily covered with oxides layers, which to some extent inhibit the processes of electrochemical corrosion in artificial saliva solution.
W pracy zaprezentowano wyniki badań nad kinetyką narastania warstw tlenkowych w efekcie cyklicznego termicznego utleniania stopu Ti-1Al-1Mn. Zabiegi utleniania przeprowadzono podczas sześciu 1-godzinnych cykli wygrzewania w atmosferze powietrza.

Opis:
The production process of prosthetic restorations runs in two stages. In the first stage, the prosthetic foundation is produced of metal alloys. In the second stage, a facing material is applied on the produced element. In both stages, the wettability is significantly important, as well as the free surface energy relating to it. The quality of the obtained cast depends on the surface phenomena occurring between the metal alloy and the material of which the casting mould is made. The performed examinations also point to a relation between the ceramics joint and the base, depending on the wetting angle. The aim of the presented paper was to examine influence of the composition of a Ti(C,N)-type coating on bases made of the Ni-Cr prosthetic alloy on the wettability and the surface free energy. The test material were disks made of the Ni-Cr alloy with the diameter of 8 mm. The disks were divided into five groups, which were covered with Ti(C,N) coatings, with different amounts of C and N in the layer. In order to determine the surface free energy (γs), the wetting angle was measured. Two measure liquids were applied: distilled water and diiodomethane. The obtained results of the measurements of the water-wetting angles suggest that together with the increase of the ratio of nitrogen to carbon in the Ti(C,N) coating, the surface hydrophobicity increases as well. In all the samples, one can see a large difference between the energy values of the polar and the apolar components. The high values of the polar components and the low values of the apolar ones make it possible to conclude that these surfaces exhibit a greater affinity to the polar groups than to the apolar ones. On the basis of the analysis of the surface free energy, one can state that covering the alloy with Ti(C,N)-type coatings should not decrease the adhesion of the ceramics to the alloy, whereas TiC coatings should lead to the latter’s improvement. Due to their hydrophilicity, TiC coatings should decrease the adhesion of bacteria to the surface and hinder the formation of a bacterial biofilm.

Opis:
The study compares the microstructure of three commercial dental cobalt matrix alloys with related chemical composition declared by the manufacturer. Casts were produced with lost wax method, then melted and casted with centrifugal induction casting machine. The Co-Cr-Mo alloys were casted according to the manufacturers procedure. The samples’ chemical composition and phase composition, respectively, using WDXRF (Wavelength Dispersive X-Ray Fluorescence) and XRD (X-ray Diffarction) methods were analysed. Casts microstructure by mean of LOM (Light Optical Microscopy), SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy) and EDS (Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy) were investigated. Vickers hardness HV10 was measured. Quantitative microstructure evaluation was performed by means of computer image processing. The results of the chemical composition indicate the high stability of the chemical composition for alloy A. In case of alloys B and C, there was a significant difference in carbon content. Quantitative differences in image of microstructure between of castings A and B, C were noticed. The greater amount of precipitates was recorded for castings with higher carbon content. In all investigated castings, the presence of β matrix solution and M23C6 carbide precipitations was found.

Opis:
This paper presents results of microscopic examination and properties comparison of commercial Ni-Cr-Mo alloys (Remanium G-soft and Remanium CSe alloy) commonly used in dental laboratories. The study confirmed that a small change in the content of the basic components of the alloy, has a very large impact on the structural construction of alloy, and consequently on the properties of the alloy. The increased molybdenum content favors the segregation of the components and thus makes it possible to apply the Ni61Cr26Mo11Si1.5(Fe,Co,Ce)x (x < 1) as a based material for prosthetics substructure veneered with ceramic material.

Opis:
A commercial cobalt alloy applied in dental prosthetics was investigated. The scope of the work included the microstructure analysis, performance examination (tensile strength, microhardness, corrosion resistance), and dilatometric examination. The investigated alloy after a single remelting was characterised by higher tensile strength and hardness. There were not found the definite results with regard to the corrosion resistance of the examined materials. No significant change occurred in the coefficient of thermal expansion.

Opis:
Purpose: The aim of the present paper was a question of structural identification and evaluation of strength parameters of Titanium (Ticp – grade 2) and its alloy (Ti6Al4V) which are used to serve as a base for those permanent prosthetic supplements which are later manufactured employing CAD/CAM systems. Methods: Microstructural tests of Ticp and Ti6Al4V were conducted using an optical microscope as well as a scanning microscope. Hardness was measured with the Vickers method. Micromechanical properties of samples: microhardness and Young’s modulus value, were measured with the Oliver and Pharr method. Results: Based on studies using optical microscopy it was observed that the Ticp from the milling technology had a single phase, granular microstructure. The Ti64 alloy had a two-phase, fine-grained microstructure with an acicular-lamellar character. The results of scanning tests show that titanium Ticp had a single phase structure. On its grain there was visible acicular martensite. The structure of the two phase Ti64 alloy consists of a β matrix as well as released α phase deposits in the shape of extended needles. Micromechanical tests demonstrated that the alloy of Ti64 in both methods showed twice as high the microhardness as Ticp. In studies of Young’s modulus of Ti64 alloy DMLS technology have lower value than titanium milling technology. Conclusions: According to the results obtained, the following conclusion has been drawn: when strength aspect is discussed, the DMLS method is a preferred one in manufacturing load structures in dentistry and may be an alternate way for the CAD/CAM system used in decrement processing.
