Opis:
Purpose: The success of a firm often largely depends on its employees. Therefore, we propose and test the possibility of influencing affective and normative commitment by transactional, transformational, and passive leadership styles. Implications: Demographic change is progressing slowly but steadily; here lies the crucial point. Our results show that only transformational leadership influences the commitment dimensions positively. That can help make the best use of scarce human resources to remain competitive in the long term. Originality/Value: The article provides new information concerning the relationship between transformational and transactional leadership style and their influence on commitment within the banking and consulting sector of the German service industry. It highlights the need for further research into this topic across industries and demographics. For cross-cultural (USA-Germany) comparisons, the article might help to understand differences and trends within globalization. Methodology: To address this question, we conducted interviews with 197 employees of the financial service sector in Germany to confirm the relationship between leadership styles and employee commitment. In order to verify and extend previous research, we planned an explanatory study. We used the multiple regression analysis to examine this relationship. Findings: The results provide new evidence for German participants, which show (1) that transformational leadership is the “optimum” to facilitate commitment and is completely decoupled from the other leadership styles. (2) Preliminary studies revealed a preference toward transactional leadership, which correlated positively with affective and normative commitment. The present study cannot confirm this correlation. (3) Passive leadership correlates negatively with commitment, which indicates that the avoidance of passive leadership is essential. In sum, the correlation for different leadership styles (except transactional leadership style) is higher than in the preliminary studies. This indicates that the relationship between leadership styles and affective and normative commitment is exceeding the assumptions.

Opis:
The population of Gnjilog Potok, as well as most other Montenegrin rural settlements, passed through the period from 1948 to 2017 all the characteristic stages of demographic transition. The maximum number of inhabitants was recorded in 1948 (325), and from the 1961 (281) and 1971 (262) censuses, in the processes of industrialization, the depopulation began - 1981 (199), - 1991 (178). In the post - transition phase in the last two censuses in 2003 and 2011, the number of inhabitants in the settlement was reduced from 111 to 87. The average age of the population is 41.4 years (38.2 in males and 46.1 in females). According to the survey data from 2017, a total of 63 inhabitants live in the settlement. Compared to 1948, the number of inhabitants in 2017 was reduced by 194 %. These demographic processes ring in the alert and seek new, more effective economic (polycentric) and population policies. The situation in which is Montenegrin rural area is located and the exploration of the possibilities for its overcoming is a sufficient motive for the development of this work.

Opis:
This article offers an overview of the longer-term migratory and demographic developments in eight South-East European countries (Austria, Bulgaria, Italy, Hungary, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia and Slovakia). The main research question aims to analyse the different demographic historical developments and to examine whether convergent or divergent processes are dominant. Over the whole reference period, the population size in these eight South-East European countries (the SEEMIG region) grew from around 100 million people in 1950 to 122 million in 2011. This is surprising, as the public image of the region is linked to decline and backwardness and to being peripheral. However, major differences in the demographic developments of the countries can be observed. Some countries, including Austria, Italy and, with some fluctuations, Slovakia and Slovenia, experienced constant population growth during the entire reference period. All other countries were affected by a decrease in population, as was the case for Hungary in the early 1980s, Bulgaria at the beginning of the 1990s and Serbia and Romania since the start of the new millennium. The fertility trend shows a convergence while the mortality trends (including average life expectancy at birth) prove to be divergent. The net migration pattern seems to follow a migration cycle concept which postulates a general shift from emigration to immigration as a consequence of a declining natural increase on the one hand and a growing demand for new labour on the other. Some countries show trends that do not yet follow this pattern, which might indicate that additional factors and interpretative models should also be taken into account. The long-term distribution of growth and decline in the region is quite diverse and underlines the need for differentiation and specific explanations.

Purpose: the main goal of this article is to determine whether demographic changes threaten the development of the labor market and education system. Methodology: theses and research questions were verified by means of a group interview, carried out with a target group of experts representing nurses and midwives in their trade union organizations. The basic recording technique for the interview was sound and audio recording. Findings: demographic changes will affect the future shape of education and the labor market. The most serious challenge is the need to adjust education levels to the age structure of the population resulting from demographic change. There is a need to improve people’s competences by promoting the idea of lifelong learning. As a result of aging, labor resources will come from a much older population than today. This is a challenge of updating current training programs to adapt them to aging societies – and Europe’s competitiveness will depend on the quality of their employment and the efficiency of their work. Originality: knowledge presented in the article indicates that special attention should be paid to supporting the smooth transition of young people from education stage to the labor market, as well as ensuring the longest possible economic activity of people over the age of 50. Considering the above, it should be clearly stated that demographic, economic and social trends have led the period of economic activity of Poles and citizens of most European countries being extended.

This research paper explores the impact of sociological perspectives on the relationship between natural resources and conflicts. From these theoretical perspectives, many fundamental sources of conflict over natural resources are identified and defined. This research takes the approach of a case study in which the researchers investigate and analyze the sources of conflict happening in the Darfur region of Sudan. This case study explores the demographic changes, economic development, and social inequality among some factors contributing to conflict over resources in this region. The research findings demonstrated that various factors play a vital role in the availability of natural resources, which is the main reason sides other reasons flaring conflict in the Darfur region in Sudan. These factors are related to climate change, destruction of ecosystems, immigration, demographic change, and political changes. Even though various factors could impact the conflict of resources in the Darfur region in Sudan, these researchers focused in this research paper on the sociological perspective only.

The aim of this research was to prove that in ageing society the increasing number of the seniors has significant role in employment. The study included Visegrad 4 countries (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia). The determination and correlation coefficients and the trend equations show the different but significant connection between the employment of senior workers and their increasing number in society. If the state does not take any proactive measure to invest into the value of the human capital of older workers, the ageing, sick, unemployment citizens will cause a serious social and financing problem in the near future.
Celem badań było wykazanie, że w starzejącym się społeczeństwie wzrastająca liczba seniorów odgrywa znacząca rolę w zatrudnieniu. Badaniami objęto 4 kraje należące do Grupy Wyszehradzkiej (V4), tj. Polskę, Węgry, Czechy i Słowację.

Opis:
Aim/purpose – This study investigated the nexus between labor force dynamics and economic performance in Nigeria, India, and China. Design/methodology/approach – The study used annual time series data spanning from 1991 to 2021 obtained from World Development Indicators (WDI). After the unit root stationarity test, the Autoregressive Distributed Lag Model (ARDL) was used for the analysis. Findings – Findings from the study support a positive short-run relationship between labor force participation and economic growth in all three countries. However, in China, population growth impacts the economy positively in the long run, while life expectancy at birth negatively impacts the economy in the short run. This is because China’s population is aging. In India, employment in the industrial and service sectors positively impacts the economy in the long run. In the short run, life expectancy at birth influences the economy negatively. Furthermore, in Nigeria, the industrial and service sector employment impact the economy negatively in the long run, though there are positive effects in the short run. Research implications – The Indian government needs policy reforms in the areas of education and health to take advantage of the potential of its youthful population. The Nigerian government requires implementing a wide range of education, investment, and employment-generating policies to foster tangible economic growth. These reforms could help both India and Nigeria take advantage of the potential for demographic change. The Chinese government, already having policy reforms in place, is geared towards improved fertility and population growth for economic growth in the near future. These policies, coupled with the study’s findings, could provide a more comprehensive understanding of the implications of demographic change on economic performance. Originality/value contribution – This analysis explored and compared the demographic potentials of two young countries (India and Nigeria) and an aging, wealthy economy (China) from the working class. Policy lessons for the attainment of demographic dividends are borrowed from China.

Purpose: the main purpose of the article is to justify the need for rational inclusion in the scientific and economic policy of scientific assessments and analyzes of the effects of demographic changes on labor resources and Poland’s educational system. Design/methodology: theses presented in the article have been verified using literature review, critical literature analysis, documentary analysis, statistical descriptive analysis. Findings: Based on the content of this article, it can be stated that the effect of regressive demographic change due to the ongoing process of aging of the society will affect the labor market and education. In this light, the main challenge facing the European Union and Poland is to ensure a properly educated and skilled society that will effectively use their potential to achieve the assumed social and economic goals. Originality: the article enriches knowledge and develops discussion in the area of need to build a modern education system that responds to contemporary and future challenges. This is a system that, in line with economic goals and megatrends, will determine the successful development of the two most important attributes of human and social capital in the modern world - the universality of ideas and a dynamic competent society.

The goal of this paper was to demonstrate the process of regional transformation in the historical/geographical region of Dalmatia since the mid-20th century and identify the main trends of contemporary regional development. The analysis focused on: demographic change; socio-economic change; and physiognomic change, in the course of two time periods: 1) the second half of the 20th century; and 2) new developments since 2001. The analysis was conducted through a comparison of four subregions in Dalmatia – Zadar, Šibenik, Split, and Dubrovnik, as well as the island, coastal, and hinterland strips of the region. The results of differing development processes are seen in the main regional differences in the region today. The role of urban centres in the area, demographic trends and age structure at the regional and local levels, problems of industrial production and weakening of the production base, an (over)orientation towards the service sector, especially tourism, changes in the structure and number of dwellings, with increases in second homes, inadequate territorial and administrative organisation remain some of the main challenges this area is facing in its development.

This paper investigates the relationship between demographic change and economic growth and confirms that the process of society ageing effects the economy. The impact is transmitted through social security, healthcare and, the most important, labour market. Ageing society results in the growing number of older workers and older customers. There is a strong need to adapt products, services and procedures to the new expectances of this older society. Nevertheless, the mentioned challenges should be treated more as a threat for public finances. In Poland, the process of ageing society is running. Combined with economic transition, which is not finished yet, it is becoming one of the major barriers in Polish way to achieve global competitiveness. There are several examples of political decisions, which indicate the growing concerns of this demographic change. However, there is much more to be done in that matter, and new channels must be created in order to solve this problem.

Purpose: the main objective of the article is to support building sustainable development of spa towns by protecting their unique resources. Design/methodology: the theses presented in the article were verified using: critical analysis of literature, document analysis, descriptive statistical analysis. Findings: on the basis of the article it can be concluded that demographic change is an important challenge for numerous areas of public policy, such as family, health care, labour market, social security, education and active leisure. The identified challenges and areas of their impact are part of a broader spectrum of reflection that should focus on a holistic approach to active policies, which are a key determinant of human capital – in which, as forecasts indicate, by 2050 people over sixty-five years of age may constitute 20% of the total population of Europe. Originality: the article enriches knowledge and develops discussion on demographic changes and the resulting great contemporary challenge for environment, institutions and people creating the future of the studied areas, which may turn out to be maintaining the professional activity of the ageing population while building modern active social and labour market policies – corresponding to the economic structure of the studied areas.
