Opis:
Mobile Cloud Networks group together mobile users and clouds containing content servers. Hence, they are an ideal framework for media content delivery. Streamswitching adaptive video players cope well with some limitations of Mobile Cloud Networks as low bandwidth and bandwidth variability in access network. Nonetheless, other limitations, as cloud congestion, are difficult to be managed by the video players. This paper presents a system for discovering fault situations at the cloud (e.g., cloud congestion) and notifying to the video player, which will take appropriate actions for saving the quality of media transmission. In proposed implementation the video application is DASH-capable and adaptation action may be both stream rate adaptation and content server adaptation. The communication between client and server uses "bidirectional" communication feature of HTTP/2 thanks to the new deployed modules running DASH over HTTP/2 in both client's and server's applications.

Background: Some therapeutic methods for treating non-displaced extra-articular fracture (NDEA) of distal radius are sometimes met with controversy in their selection. We explored and compared two such methods – bandaging and casting – for this study. Methods: This prospective randomized clinical trial was conducted during 2015 on patients (n = 62) with an NDEA fracture of the distal radius. Patients were randomly assigned to either the casting (n = 32) or bandage (n = 30) group to receive the respective fracture-repair procedure. Follow-up contact was made during the first, second, third, and sixth weeks after treatment. The Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (DASH) Questionnaire was completed and the visual analog scale (VAS) for measuring pain was assessed. All patients underwent an X-ray radiographic assessment to evaluate any potential complications. Results: At the end of the study, 30 patients in the bandage group and 32 in the casting group finished the study. Statistical analyses indicated the bandage group exhibited a significantly higher mean DASH score than the casting group during the first week. This higher mean score decreased enough during the second week that, by the third week, the casting group scored higher. During the sixth and final week of study, the two groups showed no significant difference in DASH value. No significant differences between the two groups was evident in the VAS scores obtained during all follow-up assessments. Patients in the bandage group were able to return to work sooner than those in the casting group; their cost of treatment was lower, too. Conclusion: Bandage is the more appropriate treatment option for NDEA fractures of distal radius.

Today’s Internet knows no bounds. New applications are marketed every single day. Many of them incorporate video sequences. These must be transported over the Internet quickly (often in real time). However, the Internet has not been designed for live communications and, regrettably, this may become apparent all too quickly. Countermeasures are required in the form of new, efficient transport techniques facilitating online video services. MPEG-DASH is one of such modern techniques. But how good is this new technique really? This paper delves into the matter. The paper contains an analysis of the impact that the new technology exerts on the quality of video streaming over IP networks. It also describes a new numerical tool – QoSCalc (DASH-HTTP) which has been used to analyze MPEG-DASH under different use scenarios. The results are presented graphically and their interpretation is provided

In this work, InAs/InGaAlAs/InP quantum dashes have been investigated in terms of their optical, kinetic, and excitonic properties with respect to their application within the 1300± 40 nm spectral range, i.e. the O-band of the telecommunication technologies. We focused on the basic excitonic complexes such as neutral exciton, biexciton, and charged exciton, which have been identified by means of photoluminescence measurements. Emission and carriers' dynamics have been analyzed using rate equation model and fitting the experimental data obtained for both continuous-wave and pulsed excitation regimes. There has been found a significant impact of the charge carrier imbalance in the system and electron capturing rate on the dynamics of the optical and electronic transitions, which results in a high occupation of the negatively charged trion state. Autocorrelation measurements show clear antibunching of trion emission for non-resonant excitation which indicates a potential of such kind of emitters as single photon sources for short-range quantum communication schemes.

The aim of the research was to investigate price, liquidity and information spillover within the cryptocurrency market. Since from the introduction of bitcoin, many other cryptocurrencies have emerged, there appears a question, whether the market is and will be dominated by Bitcoin, while other cryptocurrencies are only marginal and follow the price, liquidity and overall dynamics of Bitcoin, or can they be possibly used to portfolio diversification. The article contributes also to the debate on the possibility of contagion across the cryptocurrency market. By measuring and quantifying the spillovers of prices, information and liquidity among the cryptocurrencies, we try to investigate the strength of influence of the separate currencies on the whole system. The following cryptocurrencies traded in Bitfinex were taken it account: Bitcoin, Ether, Litecoin, Dashcoin and Monero. All the prices were expressed in US dollars. The period of the study covers one year, from May 2017 to May 2018. Liquidity was measured by Volume over Volatility measure, while information inflow through volume traded. Volume of spillovers were computed according to the methodology proposed by Diebold and Yilmaz. The study suggest strong co-movement across the currencies and high and relatively stable value of spillover indices.
Celem artykułu jest zbadanie przenoszenia zmian cen, płynności i informacji pomiędzy kryptowalutami (na przykładzie giełdy BitFinex), w celu odpowiedzi na pytanie, czy rynek kryptowalutowy jest i będzie zdominowany przez Bitcoina, a inne kryptowaluty tylko naśladują jego zachowanie. Zbadane zostało zachowanie cen (wyrażonych w dolarach), płynności i przepływu informacji następujących kryptowalut: Bitcoin, Ether, Litecoin, Dashcoin i Monero. Okres badania objął rok (od maja 2017 do maja 2018). Jako miarę płynności przyjęto Volatility over Volume, a przepływ informacji aproksymowany był wielkością transakcji. Do zbadania siły zarażania wykorzystano metodykę indeksu przenoszenia (spillover index) zaproponowaną przez Diebolda i Yilmaza. Na podstawie wyników stwierdzono silną współbieżność kryptowalut, silne powiązania i relatywnie stałe wielkości przenoszenia.

Modern Internet serves as a high-performance platform for an ever-increasing number of services. Some of them – video services in particular – are of the broadband variety. So, it is not surprising that segments of networks can rapidly become congested, which may lead to a deterioration in quality. It is hoped that the new MPEG-DASH technique will alleviate congestion. This paper contains an analysis of the new technology’s impact on the quality of service in IP networks. It also explains a new numerical tool QoSCalc(DASH) that has been used to analyze the DASH method in different scenarios. The results are presented graphically and interpreted.

The paper discusses the problem of video transmission in an IP network. The authors consider the ability of using the most popular video codecs that use both the MPEG2 Transport Stream and Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over Hypertext Transfer Protocol (DASH). The main emphasis was given to ensuring the quality of service and quality assessment methods, taking into account not only the service- or network provider’s point of view but also the end user’s perspective. Two quality assessment approaches were presented, i.e. objective and subjective methods. The authors presented the results of the quality evaluation for H.264/MPEG-4, H.265/HEVC and VP9 codecs.The objective measurements, proved by statistic alanalysis of user opinion scores, confirmed the ability of using H.265 and VP9 codecs in both real time and streaming transmissions, while the quality of video streaming over HTTP with the H.264 codec proved inadequate. The authors also presented a connection between the dynamics of network bandwidth changing and MPEG-DASH mechanism operation and their influence on the quality experienced by users.

Opis:
This paper describes a design of wireless distributed SHM (Structure Health Monitoring) system with a particular emphasis on comparison of wireless communication standards. The presented solution is being deployed in the TULCOEMPA project. Several wireless communication standards are compared, with their benefits, disadvantages and typical areas of application. A choice of proper ISM (Industrial Scientific Medical) band and reasons for use of Wireless Sensor Networks are also discussed. The last part of this paper presents the proposed structure and designed prototype. The chosen architecture of the system and the program algorithm used for communication and measurements are described.
