    Opis:
    The study deals with the issue of news values and their application in two typologically different print groups, in serious and tabloid newspapers. We assume that different print categories work with different values because they access the reader differently. On the other hand, economic problems, especially a loss of readers and the subsequent loss of advertisers, also lead serious newspapers to follow topics and process them in a way that is closer to the segment of tabloid journalism. The differences between typologically different groups of the press are wiping out, which, in particular, is considered a shortcoming in the case of serious titles. Through content analysis results, the authors explore news values and themes of the daily Plus Jeden Deň and the daily Denník N within a defined time period to find out what values the typologically different newspaper prefer, and therefore what topics they offer to readers.

    The objective of this project was to evaluate and measure the viewability of various kinds of ads in the daily press. A total of 63 ads was assessed, including 17 in Metrocafe, 28 in Gazeta Wyborcza, and 18 in the Super Express. The analysis of the data made it possible to assess the effectiveness of various formats of press advertising.
    Celem projektu była ocena percepcji i zmierzenie zauważalności różnych formatów reklam w prasie codziennej. Ocenie poddano łącznie 63 reklamy, w tym 17 w „Metrocafe”, 28 w „Gazecie Wyborczej” i 18 w „Super Expressie”. Analiza danych pozwoliła na określenie, który format reklamy prasowej przyciąga największą uwagę czytelników.

    In 1939 Ludwik Szczepański celebrated his Silver Jubilee of journalism in the Illustrated Daily Courier (Ilustrowany Kuryer Codzienny). This article examines his achievement over those twenty-five years - from the descent into World War I until the last days of the IKC media empire in October 1939. It features a selection of his articles and columns, poems and the Radio Courier and the Metapsychical Courier - supplements introduced and edited by Ludwik Szczepański.

    Polonia, an Upper Silesian daily founded by Wojciech Korfanty in 1926, remains a mine of information not only about the situation in Upper Silesia between the wars but also a notable source for any study of Poland’s politics in that period. Polonia’s coverage of national politics is important not only because the paper presents a regional point of view but also because of the light its publications throw on the conflict between Wojciech Korfanty and Józef Piłsudski.

    The article recounts that phase (1848–1934) of the history of the renowned Cracow newspaper Czas [Time], when its editors had their headquarters at a former abbot’s palace at a corner of the Planty Gardens (in 1935, after they moved to Warsaw, the old mansion was torn down). The article deals in some detail with the life of editorial staff and freelancers, their contacts with the Cracow boheme, and especially their involvement in the activities of the literary cabaret The Green Balloon

    This article examines the occasional verse published by the daily Czas [Time] in 1864–1879, i.e. over a decade and a half after the suppression of the January Rising. These texts, which feature both solemn occasions and local ephemera, present us with a unique chronicle of life of Cracow and its environs. In addition to listing all the relevant texts, the article attempts to identify their authors, i.e. unlock their initials or pseudonyms, to outline the conventions and genological peculiarities of that verse, and to gauge the attitudes of the Cracovians towards the question of Poland’s independence, Romanticism, patriotism as well as some well-known authority figures.
    W artykule zaprezentowano okazjonalne teksty, publikowane w latach 1864–1879 na łamach dziennika „Czas”. Odsłaniają one specyfikę utrwalania codzienności Krakowa i okolic zarówno w perspektywie uroczystych celebracji, jak i społecznościowych marginaliów. Sporządzono wykaz tych tekstów, ustalono ich autorów, dokonano deszyfracji pseudonimów, wskazano konwencje i osobliwości genologiczne, a także podjęto próbę nakreślenia stosunku krakowian do kwestii niepodległościowych, romantyzmu i patriotyzmu oraz uznanych autorytetów.
