This work involved testing of the probability of initiating a KWM-3 type of primer cap as a function of the firing pin velocity upon impact. The tested firing pin was accelerated to the required velocity by a falling mass. The measurements under this work were made with a measurement system and methodologies developed at Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) in Warsaw (Poland). The percussive pulse velocity and power was altered by modifying the percussive mass to keep the initiating pulse energy constant at two levels: Ewe = 272 mJ and 343 mJ. The firing pin velocity values estimated by experimental data to bring a 50% probability of percussive primer cap initiation were within the interval vi50% = 0.34÷0.51 m/s. It was found that the mean primer cap ignition delay rose from approx. 0.7 ms at a percussion velocity of 1.5 m/s to 6 ms at 0.17 m/s. The experimental data suggest the values of Ewe × vi50% = 0.136. A simplified model was proposed for the deformation of the primer cap base and compressed pyrotechnical mixture shape. The model served to determine the approximate time trend for the penetration of the primer cap by the firing pin, including velocity, power and emitted energy, by assuming a complete energy transfer from the percussive mass to the primer cap. The mean initiating pulse power calculated from the model at the vi50% interval was Pavg = 120÷180 W, whereas the maximum initiating pulse power was Pmax = 170÷250 W. The calculated time values for firing pin penetration were very close to the aforementioned primer cap ignition delays at the respective velocity and percussive mass values. This indirectly indicates nearly complete energy transmission from the percussive masses to the primer caps. A location was identified within the compressed pyrotechnical mixture shape volume which could form the hot spot for initiation of the explosive reaction. Based on the calculation results using the simplified model, and assuming that the energy and diffusive heat flux output to and from the explosive reaction initiation hot spot were equivalent, the expression of Ewe × vi50% derived from the result was approx. 0.18. This means that the two critical parameters of primer cap initiation: (i) velocity, which can be identified with vi50% (and the respective power) and (ii) Ewe50%, i.e. the energy threshold below which the probability of primer cap initiation is less than 0.5, are interrelated. Aside from the initiation mechanism proposed and applied to calculate the firing pin critical velocity, this work discusses several other initiation mechanisms, all of which were ruled out during the testing process.
W pracy przeprowadzono badania prawdopodobieństwa pobudzenia spłonki typu KWM-3 w funkcji prędkości uderzającej iglicy. Prędkość nadawała iglicy spadająca masa. Pomiary prowadzono za pomocą układu i metod opracowanych w ITWL. Prędkość i moc impulsu uderzeniowego zmieniano poprzez zmianę masy uderzeniowej tak, aby zachować stałość energii impulsu inicjującego na dwóch poziomach: Ewe = 272 mJ i 343 mJ. Oszacowane na podstawie danych doświadczalnych prędkości iglicy, dla których występuje 50% prawdopodobieństwo pobudzenia mieszczą się w przedziale vi50% = 0,34÷0,51 m/s. Stwierdzono, że średnia zwłoka czasowa zadziałania spłonki rosła od ok. 0,7 ms przy prędkości uderzenia wynoszącej 1,5 m/s do 6 ms przy 0,17 m/s. Dane doświadczalne sugerują Ewe × vi50% ≈ 0,136. Zaproponowano uproszczony model deformacji dna spłonki i sprasowanej kształtki mieszaniny pirotechnicznej, za pomocą którego przy założeniu całkowitego przekazania energii spłonce przez masę uderzeniową wyznaczono w sposób przybliżony przebiegi w czasie zagłębiania iglicy w spłonkę i jego prędkości, mocy i wydzielanej energii. Obliczona na podstawie modelu średnia moc w czasie impulsu inicjującego dla podanych vi50% wynosi odpowiednio Pavg = 120÷180 W, natomiast moc maksymalna Pmax = 170÷250 W. Otrzymane w wyniku obliczeń czasy zagłębiania iglicy są bardzo bliskie wyżej wymienionym czasom zadziałania spłonek dla odpowiednich prędkości i mas uderzeniowych, co pośrednio świadczy o niemal całkowitym przekazaniu przez te masy energii spłonkom. Wskazano miejsce w kształtce mieszaniny pirotechnicznej, które może być ogniskiem inicjowania reakcji wybuchu. Na podstawie wyników obliczeń opartych o ten model, przyjmując równość mocy doprowadzania energii i dyfuzyjnego odprowadzenia strumienia ciepła do i z ogniska w temperaturze inicjacji, wyprowadzono wyrażenie na Ewe × vi50% , które dało wartość ok. 0,18. Świadczy to o tym, że dwa parametry krytyczne pobudzenia spłonki – prędkość, którą można utożsamić z vi50% (i odpowiednia moc) oraz Ewe50% – energia, poniżej której prawdopodobieństwo pobudzenia spłonki spada poniżej 0,5, są związane ze sobą. Oprócz mechanizmu pobudzenia zaproponowanego i użytego do obliczenia prędkości krytycznej dyskutowano inne mechanizmy, które wykluczono.

In respect for the tentative ways of knowing critical pedagogy, I choose not to define the notion, but rather discuss it from my point of view. It is easier to begin by discussion on what critical pedagogy is not: Critical pedagogy is not prescriptive way of teaching. It is not teacher-proof because it invites teachers to make their own decisions. It is expected to be student-centered but does not prioritize that the student has more to say than the teacher. It is respectful of different traditions, different ways of seeing the world. I would say that critical pedagogy is couched in literacies and, in a non-academic sense, it is couched in the notion of Paulo Freire’s notion of reading the world... the word becomes less important than the world, once one understands the world, cultures, societies, people actually do read the word better. For the purpose of this essay, I embed quotes from Freire’s work to include his voice within the text. There’s no such thing as neutral education. The aftermath of including new technologies in a modern electric system in conjunction with the incessant rise in power demand could pose a risk to the optimal operation of the system. Therefore, it becomes imperative to identify the most influential and critical nodes of such a system to avert future problems in network operation. In this paper, to identify most significant nodes of the system, the authors propose two measures of centrality in accordance with the network structural properties of a power system, namely, degree centrality (DC) and eigenvector centrality (EC). These are expressed considering the admittance matrix that exists among the interconnection of load to load nodes in an electrical power network. A critical node closeness centrality (CNCC) method is also proposed to identify critical nodes of the system. This is done by modifying the conventional closeness centrality (CC) to include the influence of interconnection that exists between network load to load nodes as captured by the admittance matrix between them. A comparative analysis of the proposed techniques with other conventional methods is also carried out. The result of the simulation shows that the proposed methods could serve as alternative tools in the identification of influential and weak nodes in a power system.

Finding the most critical contingencies in a power system is a difficult task as multiple evaluations of load and generation scenarios are needed. This paper presents a mathematical formulation for selecting, ranking, and grouping the most critical N-1 net- work contingencies, based on the calculation of a Power Constraint Index (PCI) obtained from the Outage Transfer Distribution Factors (OTDF). The results show that the PCI is only affected by the impedance parameter of the transmission network, the topology, and the location of all generators. Other methods, such as the Performance Index (PI) and the Overload Index (OL) are affected by the power generation and demand variations. The proposed mathematical formulation can be useful to accelerate the calculation of other methods that evaluate contingencies in power system planning and operation. Furthermore, the fast calculation of indices makes it suitable for online evaluation and classification of multiple events considering the current topology. The results showed that the proposed algorithm easily selected and ranked the expected contingencies, with the highest values of the index corresponding to the most critical events. In the filtering process, the computational calculation time improved without losing the robustness of the results.

Research background: Although the literature on power asymmetry and power dynamics has recognized the issue of factors that cause power shifts in business-to-business relationships, a more systematic approach and research framework regarding the identification of these factors is lacking. There are attempts in business-to-business literature to use the critical incident technique to study dynamic phenomena, but there are no studies on the factors that increase and decrease the power of suppliers in their relationships with dominant buyers. Purpose of the article: The aim of this paper is to identify the factors that influence the most significant changes in suppliers' power in relationships with dominant buyers. An important objective is also to determine to which power sources the identified factors are assigned. This is crucial for business practitioners, who will be able to adjust their actions when managing a relationship with a dominating partner through knowledge of their own strengths as well as weaknesses. Methods: The study is based on analysis of questionnaires with open-ended questions, and uses the critical incident technique to investigate the behaviour of dyadic parties at key moments in buyer-seller relationships. We have focused on investigation of manufacturing companies mainly from the furniture, construction, energy and printing industries. The analysis of the data was based on the abductive approach as a combination of inductive and deductive coding. Findings & value added: In comparison to previous studies, which did not distinguish the level of importance of each factor, we have obtained only those factors with the greatest impact on power dynamics. We have also obtained factors which can decrease suppliers' power, whereas the literature focuses mostly on factors increasing suppliers' power. The research results reveal the factors that affect an increase and decrease in the power of weaker suppliers in relationships with dominant buyers. First- and second-order factors were identified, and subsequently 3 overarching dimensions for each increase and decrease in supplier power were deduced from the results. The most important overall dimension for the increase in power was the building of suppliers' power capabilities, while the decrease in suppliers' power was most influenced by transactional changes and changes in buyer's expectations. The results can be helpful for managers in focusing their attention on expert power in order to gain knowledge and prepare a practical background for managing asymmetric relationships. It is important to mention that the critical incident technique used in this study has not yet been used to represent power dynamics in B2B relationship literature.

The analysis in this article provides an overview of the research on the current relations among countries of the South China Sea basin. For this purpose, I have decided to apply the geopolitical research workshop, focusing on its contemporary approach. On the one hand, this work uses the available indicators and index to gauge the level of development, economic and demographic potential, and military expenditure of these states. On the other hand, an effort was made to analyze and measure power, taking into account the changing geopolitical status of countries in this sub-region. Contemporary geopolitics in this context allows to verify the scale of the impact on permanent environmental and geographic factors (e.g. publicized investments carried out by the People’s Republic of China in Mischief Reef, Fiery Cross, Subi Reef and Woody Island) and the elaboration of proposals going beyond the classical, geopolitical framework (morphological, political and military factors). Therefore, this article also includes the use of geopolitical codes to assess the current strategies of these countries and to describe potential scenarios of actors’ behaviour in the sub-region.

The paper presents an assessment of the functional mechanisms that are part of the security system for the power grid control. The security system, its components, and the real time processes for the control of electricity supply were defined. In particular, SCADA protocols used in the control system and mechanisms for transferring them between the control center and actuators were identified. The paper also includes presentation of a test environment that is used for developed security mechanisms evaluation. In the last fragment of the paper, the test scenarios were formulated and the results obtained in the cyber security system were shown, which cover security probes reaction delay, forged malicious IEC 60870-5-104 traffic detection, DarkNet and HoneyPot interception of adversary actions, and dynamic firewall rules creation.

This article presents Log-Periodic Power Law and considers its usefulness as a forecasting tool on the financial markets. One of the estimation methods of this function was presented and six models were built, based on time series of the DJIA and the WIG20. Estimated models were utilized to predict crashes of those indices. The variations between the actual values of analyzed indices observed in the forecasted period and values observed in the actual period of their downturn were assembled to assess the results. In three cases, relative errors were below 5%; and in three cases, they were higher than 15%.

Mocarstwem może być pojedyncze państwo, jak np. Stany Zjednoczone, Chiny, lub grupa państw, znajdująca się na tym samym etapie integracji regionalnej, tworząca organizację międzynarodową o charakterze gospodarczym. W Europie najlepszym przykładem jest Unia Europejska. Tym co charakteryzuje mocarstwo jest jego zdolność - dzięki potędze militarnej, ekonomicznej, dyplomacji i wpływom kultury - do wpływania na kształtowanie losów świata. Najczęściej można to osiągnąć dysponując, niestety, siłą militarną. W tym artykule, zagadnienie mocarstwowości państwa ograniczone jest do nauk o zarządzaniu, do kryterium otoczenia biznesu organizacji. Konkurencyjne, sprzyja efektywności prowadzenia działalności gospodarczej i rozwojowi sektora prywatnego. W Afryce Subsaharyjskiej, za przyczyną niesprzyjającego otoczenia biznesu, udział firm sektora prywatnego w gospodarkach narodowych jest nieznaczący. Sektor prywatny rodzinnych mikrofirm i małych przedsiębiorstw, zdominowany przez trudności w prowadzeniu działalności gospodarczej, jakie piętrzy przed nimi otoczenie, w którym funkcjonują i od którego zależą, przestaje pełnić rolę endogenicznego, oddolnego stymulatora wzrostu gospodarczego. Jest to swoiste mar- notrawstwo przedsiębiorczości, szczególnie niezrozumiałe w państwach o najniższym poziomie rozwoju i państwach wysokozadłużonych. Odnosząc bariery otoczenia biznesu organizacji do pojęcia mocarstwowości państwa, trzeba wskazać, że wiele państw, których przykłady przytaczam w tym artykule, to państwa zakwalifikowane jako „upadłe".

Schools in general and classrooms in particular are among society’s primary socializing institutions (Freeman and McElhinny, 1996, p. 261; Adger, 2001). In particular, education, as an institution of Gramsci’s ‘civil society’ (Jones, 2006), can be considered a grassroots space where hegemonic gendered and sexual identities are constructed and regulated. This article looks at the context of the EFL classroom – a discursive space where learners are potentially (re-)constructed in relation to various (gender) roles in society as well as learning the practices, values and rules of a given society at large. In this paper we explore and discuss how the categories of gender and sexuality are represented, (re-)constructed and generally dealt with in this learning environment. We follow Foucault’s (1978, 1979) conceptualization of power as something which “weaves itself discursively through social organizations, meanings, relations and the construction of speakers’ subjectivities or identities” (Baxter, 2003, p. 8) and is enacted and contested in every interaction (see Mullany, 2007). We see power as being produced, reproduced, challenged and resisted in the EFL classroom in connection with the construction of gender and sexuality. The article discusses how views on what/who is ‘powerful’ in the context of the EFL classroom have changed over the years, from the early privileging of textbooks to the currently advocated central role of the teacher in addressing and promoting (or not) traditional and/or progressive discourses of gender and sexuality. Critical pedagogies and queer pedagogies are discussed as offering educators potent insights and tools to deal with heteronormativity and various forms of discrimination in the EFL classroom as well as helpful means for empowering all students by addressing their various identities. It is thus our contention that relationships between gender, sexuality and EFL education are in need of urgent (re)addressing as existing research is outdated, lacks methodological sophistication or is lacking in the Polish context.

In the paper presented are definitions of specific indicators of power which characterize the operation of the organic Rankine cycle (ORC) plant. These quantities have been presented as function of evaporation temperature for selected working fluids of ORC installation. In the paper presented also is the procedure for selection of working fluid with the view of obtaining maximum power. In the procedure of selection of working fluid the mentioned above indicators are of primary importance. In order to obtain maximum power there ought to be selected such working fluids which evaporate close to critical conditions. The value of this indicator increases when evaporation enthalpy decreases and it is known that the latent heat of evaporation decreases with temperature and reaches a value of zero at the critical point.

Cybersecurity is still considered a purely technological challenge; however, despite all technological progress, this challenge remains unsolved – as emphasized by many high-impact attacks against public administration and industry worldwide. We postulate that the mere focus on technology fogs the bigger picture, since people generate, operate, and interact with all technological systems, thus making them socio-technical systems. Hence, in this commentary we argue for a change of perspective towards a holistic, interdisciplinary view on our technological infrastructure. By example of the European power grid – inarguably a critical infrastructure not only for daily life but also for the continuity of our polity – we show that through interpretation as a socio-technical system, systematic and interdisciplinary studies would allow to reveal how its (cyber)security is not only a technological matter. An interdisciplinary approach combining STEM disciplines and Social Sciences would additionally advance the understanding of stakeholders and their goals and mindsets as well as the manifold dependencies between technology and human actors. While interdisciplinary endeavours appear to be generally supported by funding agencies, reviewers, universities, and researchers, they rarely occur in practice. We discuss why this is the case and present ideas on how to facilitate more interdisciplinary research.

Opis:
The purpose of this work is to demonstrate the advantages and disadvantages of unmanned aerial vehicles as devices supporting the system of physical protection of critical infrastructure facilities using the example of a nuclear power plant. This paper contains information on the reasons for the construction of a nuclear power plant in the era of economic development of the Polish state. The legal requirements consisting of the analysis of the risk of terrorist threats for the facility was indicated. One of the sources of danger is unmanned aircraft or flying models increasingly used in the airspace. Furthermore, this paper presents legal rules and principles according to which missions of unmanned aerial vehicles or flying models are performed. The current regulations allow the use of unmanned aerial vehicles as devices supporting physical security systems at facilities. This study showed that although the use of unmanned aircraft for the purpose of increasing the security level of critical infrastructure facilities has some limitations, however, the possibilities arising from their usefulness are the decisive advantage of the need to implement drone technology in security.
